Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday! Hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead! What are you up to?

This past week, it was just the girls, since the Pilot was traveling for work.

While it was definitely a lot of work to run the fort by myself (single parent friends, I bow down to you), we also had so much fun together. We spent lots of time playing on Liv’s rug in her room,

The girls 3

and P is THISCLOSE to crawling!!. We made cookies, Liv and I went out for a Menchie’s date, and we all played at the park. Somehow the cooking gods enabled me to make dinner each night (wahoo!), with the exception of one night we all headed to the park for a Panera takeout picnic.

When the Pilot got home last night, we high-fived each other, and I’m off to Palm Springs with some girlfriends this morning. We live in various areas of the US (and have all lived in the same city at one time or another) and since moving season is upon us again, we knew we had to plan a little trip and hang out. I’m so excited for the weekend ahead! If you have any more recommendations for Palm Springs (I’ve never been!), please send them my way. I’ll also be Snapchatting and Instagramming the fun. 🙂

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please join the party in the comments section if you would like!

Happy happy Friday!

Getting back in the gym! I had my first workout on Wednesday, and did a leg, core and cardio workout from the post baby bod plan. It felt AMAZING. And wow, I’m sore. I forgot what that felt like, and missed it in a weird way. 😉 It’s good to be back! Also, I was feeling pretty discouraged when I got my splint off because I could hardly move my thumb. It is doing so much better, so I’m hoping that doc will give me the all clear on heavy weights next time I see him. YAS.

This argan oil blend. (<— autocorrect tried to change that to “organ” oil blend. Um, no.) I’ve been mixing it with my favorite tinted moisturizer, and it gives it a nice finish. It’s not as matte and feels hydrating. I got this one as part of a Josie Maran set and will definitely pick up a full-sized bottle when it’s out.

Salad a Day in May is going strong! Thank you so much for tagging me in your beautiful salad pics.

Here are my salads from the week:

Salad a day

Brain food (sweet potato, kale, chicken, spices)

Salad with chopped veggies, avocado, and kombucha from the Liberty Station Market

Southwestern Avocado Salad

Chopped veggie salad I made with a couple of dinners: greens, carrots, bell pepper, avocado

Panera side salad, with a glass of wine as big as said salad 😉

Ways to practice self care with kids.

This leg workout looks BOMB.

The pictures from Cal’s photo booth are still making me laugh. The Pilot ate his plate of Mexican food in this entire set hahah.

Mom guilt: you’re not alone.

Breakfast prep ideas.

Yoga may improve memory better than brain training.

11 smoothie ideas.

Why the low fat and low cholesterol diet craze was a giant fail.

100 years of fitness trends.

And now, the P smile of the day.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A workout to try: this total body compound crusher. It has some of my favorite exercises to challenge multiple muscle groups at the same time.

Hi Gina! Yay for a girls trip! I actually have a girlfriend in town from Florida right now, so we’re doing SF stuff today and Napa tomorrow. I’ve never been to Palm Springs either! It’s on the list, but so darn far from NorCal. Hope you have fun! Welcome back to the workout world. Slowly but surely it will all come back to you. Happy Friday! 🙂

I think she called it a dutch because the braid was ABOVE the hair. I will totally get the details from her. 🙂

You look great. It is good to get back to the gym, but you can really feel it. I really like Josie Maran’s products too. xo Lauren

Workshop Kitchen + Bar is a MUST do for dinner. The food has been voted some of the best in the country, and the decor won a James Beard award! You can’t go to Palm Springs without a visit 🙂

Also Palm Greens Cafe is a great easy convenient place for healthy breakfast fare, smoothies, GF options etc. Super casual though.

I’ve been to Palm Spring once and stayed at the Colony Palms hotel. It was one of the most magical places I’ve stayed- you get your own little cottage which you get to by walking down winding paths filled with honeysuckles. I loved the food and setting at the Purple Palms restaurant there: http://www.colonypalmshotel.com/dining/

    • Fitnessista on May 15, 2016 at 11:10 pm

that looks amazing!! i’ll definitely add it to the list for later this summer!

Palm Springs is my town! You picked a nice warm weekend for it. Try El Jefe Tequila Bar at the Saguaro for casual but amazing tacos and margaritas. Have a great time!

that is so awesome you live there! we had an amazing time- i can’t wait to go ack!

Glad you had fun. If you can handle the heat rooms and food are a steal in August and Sept.

No specific plans for the weekend. Just working and doing school work. I have a few trips coming up later this year so trying to get ahead. Have fun in Pam Springs. I’ve always wanted to go there!

I just bought the Josie Maran infinity cream from qvc. You get a small bottle of the original Argan oil. I tried some at Sephora with my dry hands and it felt amazing. I knew I had to buy it. Go to qvc for the little extra. I love her stuff! Have a great time in Palm Springs!

    • Fitnessista on May 15, 2016 at 11:10 pm

Cheeky’s for breakfast/brunch, the Ace Hotel for cocktails and snacks, and here’s a pizza place that’s entirely outdoors next to Cheeky’s I can’t remember the name of, but it’s so good. Wangs in the Desert is a Chinese-ish restaurant with okay food, but I mostly go for the people watching. The first time I went I thought it said Angs in the desert, so I was slightly surprised to be the only female in the restaurant…until I saw the menu and realized it was Wangs. Other than that, a trip to Palm Springs without a date shake is a waste.

    • Fitnessista on May 15, 2016 at 11:08 pm

i missed cheeky’s because i got in early afternoon, but the girls said it was AWESOME. we’re going back later this summer with the fam so we will definitely put it on the list!

Haha love that photo booth pic, and of course P’s little smile of the day! So I have a super random questions for you, not related to Friday Favs: how do you feel about Shakeology? (I see it ALL over the place now but have been super doubtful about it, esp since it seems to be connected to a multi-level marketing…)

    Have a blast this wkend!

i LOVE shakeo. text me! i’ll tell you all of my thoughts 🙂

Whew, I am looking forward to going home Sunday after delivering my twin girls via C section and i KNOW your blog is going to be huge inspo for me (it is anyways), as things didn’t go as expected. I didn’t think I would “need” the post baby bod plan but boy will I now…my recovery is going SO slow it is frustrating!

Have an amazing girls weekend, those are the best!!!

    Xoxo

    • Fitnessista on May 15, 2016 at 11:07 pm
