Friday Faves

Hi friends! How are you? Hope you’re having a wonderful Friday! Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I missed you all. <3 I hit up an early Orangetheory class and then we hit the road for a little weekend getaway. I’ll be back with a recap of our adventures on Monday!

What are you up to this weekend? Any fun plans or adventures on the horizon? Summer is officially here, and I find that the days are moving in slow motion. I absolutely love it, but it makes me wonder how the heck I got us dressed and Liv to preschool in the morning. We have been enjoying the relaxed schedule, and find it’s been a nice change of pace.

It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party. It’s fun to share some of the things I’ve been enjoying over the week, and I love hearing about your faves, too, if you’d like to play along in the comments section. 🙂

P saying, “Mama”

I posted this one on my Snapchat (username: fitnessista) last weekend, and it was kind of a hoot that it happened over Father’s Day. The Pilot and I have had this friendly competition with both kids to see if they’d say “Mama” or “Dada” first. P has been babbling like crazy and saying mamamamama for a while now, but now if you ask her to say it, she repeats it back to you, along with the biggest 4-toothed smile. (She has her two bottom teeth and both top “fangs.” #vampirebaby) It is the sweetest ever.

So excited for this one. <3

New candles

I think I was kicked out of the NCH (National Candle Hoarders) club because I had zero candles in the house. I’m pretty sure this has never happened before. I love running the oil diffuser with lavender during the day, but there’s something so peaceful about having a few candles lightly glimmering throughout the house. P and I were at the mall, and I was so excited to see that Bath & Body Works brought back the Henri Bendel candles, which they’d stopped carrying for a while. I still like the Rewined candles the most, but love the fig and rose scents from this brand.

Hamilton soundtrack

My inner musical-obsessed self is a little sad that I’m so late on the bus, but better late than never, right? YOU GUYS. The hype is for a reason. I started listening to the soundtrack a couple of weeks ago, and it’s seriously incredible. It gets better every.time. I can’t wait until the next time I make it to NYC because this has to happen.

AHHHHH. It’s just so good. Has anyone seen it live? Please tell me everything.

A celebration purchase.

When I was through the depths of PPD, my own medical stuff, being worried sick about P and her reflux, and when a family member was out of the woods with her scary diagnosis (a portion of the year we can go ahead and erase), I decided to get myself a little something. I finally ordered a pair of Valentino rockstuds. I’d been wanting some for years, and figured it would be the perfect way to celebrate after making it through the challenges of the past 8 months.

Yesterday I had my last big doctor’s appointment to verify that everything is indeed ok after my repair surgery, and it’s also the day that these arrived. I had been scoping them out for a long time at Nordstrom, but they didn’t have many sizes left. Bergdorf Goodman has a ton of sizes.

I’ll definitely show them a lot of love. 🙂

Can’t wait to try this leg workout.

Head to toe running workout.

Watermelon sangria? YAS.

Cheeky sayings on the mirrors at Orangetheory:

hakuna masquata

“Hakuna Masquata. It means nice booty for the rest of your days.”

How I feel after squats.

These cauliflower rice stuffed peppers look amazing.

Healthy snack ideas.

Sesame soy tofu salad.

Hope you have a very happy Friday and a wonderful weekend. What’s something you’re loving this week? Hands in the air if you’re excited for Summer Shape Up!

xoxo

Gina

That is too cute about P saying mama! Both the girls are adorable as always. No plans this weekend except a ton of homework for my nutrition school & trying to stay cool. Hopefully it won’t be 120 in AZ like last weekend. 🙂

I’m glad you’re back in the candle hoarders club so I’m not in it alone! I have WAY to many candles! I probably have 20 right now which is really out of hand but you never know when your favorite scent will go out of stock!

HAMILTON. It was…ridiculous. I live in NY and was determined to see if before LMM leaves on July 9th. I entered the lottery every day (and had my husband and my grandmother and my mom, etc do it, too to increase my chances. I stalked StubHub daily. I called in every favor. I came up with nothing. My hopes were down, and I decided I would sell one of my nice bags to have a disposable 1,400.00 for a seat via a line sitter (you can hire – totally legit – a person to stay the 36 hours in the cancelation line for you to wait for a ticket). I almost did it…and chickened out bc I felt like first of all, I couldn’t spend the money without extreme guilt…and then…second of all, I felt weird paying someone to do something I wouldn’t/couldn’t (two toddlers at home who would not do well with a 36 hour street camp out) do. So I cancelled my spot, and had a broken heart. I called back to re-hire the company that does this and my spot had already been taken for the day. That day, my husband won the lottery (the Hamilton ticket lottery) at 4pm and we went that night and sat in the front row for 10.00 a person. My expectations were incredibly high (my family members are in the industry) and I have to say, the show exceeded anything I could have ever hoped for. My husband, who is a total skeptic and doesn’t want to love anything trendy or with hype (he is a super serious pediatric oncologist) was blown away, too. LMM and Leslie Odom’s sweat and spit fell on us (front row, lol) and it was breath-taking from beginning to end. I cannot come up with one single flaw. There are aspects of it, like…Stay Alive (the second one) which have a visceral feeling that doesn’t come through all the way on the CD. Same with Quiet Uptown. Neither of those were my favorites from the album, but they become something else in person. He truly does “save” something for you as a live theatergoer even with the full show sung through on the CD (minus one small scene not on the CD)…Every single part of this show is spectacular, from the aspects hidden throughout it from popular culture and history…to the thought he put into every part of how it weaves together (such as how Daveed Digs goes from a Frenchman having trouble mastering the English language to having the fastest raps by the end of his scenes, or to how Alexander’s part during the first song is so much more intense then the other men in order to allign the audience with Alexander’s genius from moment one…) He says it took him a full year to write MyShot and I believe it. Although, in person, it feels so natural like it just happened all in one breath. The theater is intimate and perfect for the show, we were lucky enough to get almost the entire full cast that night. The sound is beyond. Every single thing. I could go on and on…I will say this. If you have any way to get to NY before July 9th, do it. It will change your life. It certainly has made me re-evaluate every aspect of my own life (as a 35 year old married, Psychologist mom of two this was very unexpected). GO SEE IT.

    • Anna on June 28, 2016 at 5:22 pm

Same goes with “Say no to this” which for me, was not something that drew me in. The drama of the moment on stage is something that you can’t pull yourself away from. So you end up at home with a whole new album to listen to…only this time you have all this imagery and emotion to go with it!

      • Fitnessista on June 29, 2016 at 12:24 pm

AHHHHH that’s why i love actually being able to see the shows. it makes the soundtracks so much more meaningful.

    • Fitnessista on June 29, 2016 at 12:24 pm

oh my gossshhhhh. reading your comments gave me serious chills. amazing. what an incredible experience, and DESTINY that you were able to go that very night (and sit in the front row, no less)! thank you for sharing with me, and making me even more excited! my chances of going before the 9th are basically nonexistent, but man. i want to see it SO BADLY.
