2,4,6,8,10 workout {video}

A while ago, I posted a 2,4,6,8,10 workout, which so many of you did along with me. I love playing fitness games (it’s more of a love/hate thing); they make the workouts simultaneously harder and more exciting. I feel like if you’re playing mind tricks along the way, it’s over before you know it! A great technique is to use different rep strategies. One of my faves is 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2… 10! (<– try it, it’s a “fun” one)

and, of course, the 2,4,6,8,10.

2 4 6 8 10

We thought it would be cool to use this strategy for this week’s video. We filmed it on Sunday and soreness is just now going away. Try it sometime today, or as the grand finale to tomorrow’s Summer Shape Up workout.

[As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and make any modifications necessary for you. Sasha is doing a low-impact version of the workout in the video.]

Hope you enjoy! <3

xoxo

Gina

Do you play any fitness games? Summer Shape Up friends: how are you spending your rest day?

I am planning to go on a walk later today, if the weather clears up. I really need to shake out my legs–so sore!

  2. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on June 12, 2013 at 10:44 am

I am spending my rest day snuggling with my baby and catching up on The Bachelorette! 😉

  3. Lisa on June 12, 2013 at 10:48 am

Haha, I was just going to say the same thing as Ashley above. Catching up on the Bachelorette today since I just finished a spin workout and then some work stuff 🙂
This workout looks fun, I love these type of workouts.

Just starting week one of SSU, so there’s no rest for me today! Looking forward to workout 1 though, it was really tough Monday, but I’m feeling good about it today and think it will go better (better as in I will be able to complete all three sets of squats)!

  5. Becca on June 12, 2013 at 11:12 am

I just started Week 2 today, with Workout 2! It was killer! This was my first time using the stability ball so I had some real issues staying on it, haha.

This workout looks great. Pinned it and can’t wait to give it a try!

  7. Abby on June 12, 2013 at 11:34 am

Spending my rest day studying for the Bar and trying not to walk too much 😉

  8. Emily on June 12, 2013 at 11:40 am

You’re the best! This workout went by SO fast and my heart rate is definitely up! Thanks for getting me up and off the couch- I need to make challenges like this for myself between netflix episodes… lol

  9. Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny on June 12, 2013 at 11:49 am

I usually do one active rest day for yoga and one full out rest day where I do nothing but lounge around the house and catch up on blogs!

  10. Jessica on June 12, 2013 at 12:18 pm

On an unrelated note, I was perusing the brunch menu of one of the new restaurants we have in my neighborhood and what is listed on the menu? A “BREAKFAST COOKIE”! (chocolate chips, oats, dried fruit). I will have to try it!

  11. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on June 12, 2013 at 12:28 pm

Looks fun! I should also admit I’m impressed you can talk while doing a burpee… 😉

  12. Nicola Barrett on June 12, 2013 at 12:38 pm

I have to take a rest weekend, so today was another workout 2 + HIIT. I’m so ready to rest on Saturday (already!).

  14. Aleisha on June 12, 2013 at 12:57 pm

I am spending my rest day at work, a little family time and then it is church with my youth group tonight 🙂

BTW! I had to switch my Monday for my Tuesday and I did workout 2 yesterday! I about died with that stability ball and my husband had a good laugh! I am determined to be able to balance and not fall off when doing the exercise moves, any tips?? 🙂

  15. Lenore on June 12, 2013 at 12:59 pm

It will be spent as an “active” rest day. Heading down to the beach later to do some walking and sea shell hunting. 🙂

  16. Siobhan on June 12, 2013 at 1:13 pm

I had to switch around Tuesday and Wednesday on SSU schedule, so I have HIIT and Steady tonight (generally I run). I’m looking forward to trying your new video tomorrow after workout 2!

  17. Laura on June 12, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I haven’t done the shape up this week 🙁 Saturday’s workout was awesome, but Monday afternoon I got sooo sick. I am still recovering. I’m going to see how I feel this evening to see if I can make up one of the workouts I missed. Just wanted to check in anyway.

  18. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on June 12, 2013 at 1:24 pm

This workout looks awesome! I think I might die attempting it but it seems great.

  19. McKel | Nutrition Stripped on June 12, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Lovin’ these videos! Keep them up! Fitness games for me… jump rope like playground days haha. Thanks for sharing as always Gina 😉

  20. Tracy on June 12, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Yoga was perfect for my active recovery day 🙂 Next I’m heading to the pool with my kids!

Can’t wait to try this workout tomorrow!

  21. Danica @ It's Progression on June 12, 2013 at 4:00 pm

For today’s workout I did some low-intensity cardio and some rowing – still moving but letting my sore muscles has a little break! 🙂

  22. Kate on June 12, 2013 at 4:04 pm

Rest day = Volunteering with the local animal shelter for their Wednesday “Walk n Wag” to exercise shelter pups and raise awareness 🙂 Loving this Summer Shape-Up!

  23. kaity Genovese on June 12, 2013 at 4:49 pm

    rest dayyyyy 🙂

  24. Amanda on June 12, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Workout 2 and HIIT for me today since I had to swap Wed/Thu this week. Sweaty as always! Thinking I might try this video tomorrow along with yoga since it’ll be my active rest day. Typically I use Sunday as my off off day and rarely do more than a leisurely family walk if the weather is nice (serious June Gloom happening here in San Diego at the moment).

  25. Alyssa on June 12, 2013 at 5:31 pm

My rest day was spent shopping in new york city! My fitbit told me I walked about 2.5 miles doing it, so I’m totally using that to justify spending so much on clothes!

  26. Angela Creamer on June 12, 2013 at 5:33 pm

I did one of my favorite DVD’s this morning…Jillian’s yoga meltdown.

  27. Mia on June 12, 2013 at 5:39 pm

Hello, today was suposed to be my yoga day but i was not in the zone for a two hour yoga sesh. When i saw this video i kew i had to try this wkout, today! 🙂 because i am trying to focus more on strengh and less cardio now i decided to add a pushup to the burpee and once i fished the 10reps set i added extra rounds going backwards (8,6,4,2). To focus on form instead of speed i didn’t time it but for sure it took 15 minutes minimum. iti will be sore tomorrow, Big Thank You Gina! You are the best!

  28. Beverly Aragon on June 12, 2013 at 6:13 pm

Oh, I’ve never been more thankful for a mid-week rest day! I am crazy sore from workout 2 and super burnt out from a loooooong work day. I’m totally relishing the rest day and going to meet my mama for a pedi and dinner date later.

  29. Abby on June 12, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Definitely needed my rest day today! I did some recovery yoga at home and am had pizza night with my hubby!

  30. Tara on June 12, 2013 at 8:56 pm

Yoga class for me today! In serious need to stretch things out 🙂

  31. Rebecca on June 12, 2013 at 10:06 pm

I did this workout with my track team back in the early spring – they loved it.

and by loved it, I mean they were piles of sweat begging to stop at the 8 count 😀

  32. Tricia on June 12, 2013 at 10:13 pm

Had to switch Wednesday and Thursday this week so I did workout 2 & HIIT earlier at the Y. Tomorrow I’m going to enjoy an active recovery day which will be my 2nd Yoga class ever. I might get hooked 🙂

  33. Lauren @ Sassy Molassy on June 12, 2013 at 10:51 pm

Whew! This was a fun and fast one. I cranked it out tonight after finishing a nice 30 mile bike ride with a friend. Now time for some FOOD! 🙂

  34. Laura B on June 13, 2013 at 1:04 am

I really wanted to add this to my workout today (taking a rest day tomorrow) but I ran out of time. Had a great workout 2 with stairmaster HIIT, though. I’ll try and add this on Saturday!

  35. ruthie on June 13, 2013 at 9:00 am

Whoops late check in for yesterday. Since schedule is off today was my HIIT steady day. Sprinted and walked it on a nearby trail.
Loved the baked oatmeal bfast by the way!

  36. Leah O on June 13, 2013 at 12:59 pm

I have been absolutely horrible at checking in this time around! Have been loving the workouts. I’m 13 weeks along with #2 so I haven’t had quite as much energy as usual but definitely love how strong I’m already feeling from this consistent exercise 🙂 For my rest day I did the 2,4,6,8,10 video (kicked my butt) and went on a long walk with my baby.

  37. Nichole on June 13, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Did this workout yesterday and LOVED it – create little sweat sesh! Thanks!

  38. Carrie on June 14, 2013 at 6:32 am

Great workout but I a so unfit. The burpees killed me and ended up taking them out towards the end. Here’s to improvements over time. Phew!
