2/8: Friday Faves

-Yoga. I always love yoga, but it’s even more delicious after a bit of a hiatus. Hot power yoga is my absolute favorite, but I *thought* all of the classes here were 90 minutes and far away. Not the case at all! Kyle and Meg introduced me to a studio downtown, $4 seriously hot yoga, an incredible instructor and practice is 60 minutes. I think it’s going to have to become a regular thing- this studio was like my Yoga Room meets Orlando Power Yoga.

-Valentine’s day. Anyone else really in the Valentine’s mood this year? Those Hallmark commercials get to me every.single.time (waterworks extravaganza) and I’m excited to make Valentine’s cards with Liv and plan a fun dinner date with the Pilot.

Roses 1 of 1

-Impromptu dinner parties. We invited some friends over tonight for dinner, cocktails and dessert. Livi will also have a little friend here- should be a blast 🙂

-Ocho bars. By the time I got my phone out to snap a pic for you, all that was left was a wrapper. I have no idea what happened to it.

-Livi’s unwavering love of all things Elmo. Give that girl a baby doll, something Elmo-related and a book, and she’s a very happy kid. I had to finally start telling her that Elmo goes to sleep in my phone (we have the “Call Elmo” app for emergency mode- usually when we’re waiting in an awful long line for something and she gets antsy), but she started to say, “El muh? El muh? EL MUH?!” every time we would hang up with him. Now it’s “Shhhh..Elmo’s sleeping. Let’s say ‘goodnight’ for his nap” and she gently pats the phone.

-When the time clicks over to the next day, my top search results are always a good time:

-Facials, one of the most underrated spa treatments. One of the [many awesome] perks about working at a resort is that we have instant access to fitness classes, lectures, spa treatments and services. If we have an open hour in our schedule, we can go work out, chill in the locker room (I’ve taken a nap before) or see if there’s an opening for a spa treatment. I treated myself to a facial last week and it was glooooooorious.

-Speaking of spa treatments, how about a little spa treat for one of you? My friends at Canyon Ranch offered a lucky Winter Shape Up participant an incredible gift basket with all of the things you need for a Canyon Ranch-inspired day at home:

-an inspiration journal

-comfy robe and slippers (the robes are to diiieeeeee for)

-DVD (with my beautiful friend Heather on the cover- she’s amazing)

Nourish cookbook (<– Affiliate link; thank you for supporting the blog!), which is one of my all-time faves

Oh man, this is the most anticipated rest day I’ve had in a while!! My favourite workout mantra is one I’ve seen floating around facebook, twitter, Pinterest etc: “”‘Wow, I really regret that workout.’ -No one Ever.” it reminds me that even though I’m comfy, cozy, and warm at home, I’ll be so happy I followed through with my fitness plan!

I love the Nourish cookbook. I purchased mine at the Miami location. I’ve made almost every recipe in it
and they all turned out so good. I actually have plans to eat lunch at CR in Miami tomorrow. You should visit that one sometime Gina.

Ive never tried hot yoga….sounds really rough and unpleasant to be that hot, honestly?! Although, by the pic it LOOKS fun!

  5. Jen on February 8, 2013 at 2:40 pm

Today is outdoor boot camp day for me, so yesterday was my (active) recovery day, and I yoga-ed it up with a Rodney Yee power yoga DVD. It was my first time trying it out, recommended by a friend who says she has a bit of a crush on Rodney Yee. Not bad, but my favorite yoga DVD is still the old school Bryan Kest power yoga DVD where he has long, flowing Hollywood Jesus hair, haha 😉

My recovery day will be mostly about relaxing after work and avoiding the girl scout cookies!

  7. Carly on February 8, 2013 at 2:54 pm

My day started ridiculously (a large snow storm here…stuck in the driveway, at the end of the street…ugh) So I made it to yoga for both physical and mental recovery! AND the warmth… love my yoga hot 🙂

  8. Megan on February 8, 2013 at 2:54 pm

I can still feel the burn in my quad on the way UP and DOWN the stairs at work. Love it!

  9. Lauren @ Eat Like An Elephant on February 8, 2013 at 3:10 pm

I forgot to tell you I did the Stairmaster workout yesterday and it was killer! It doesn’t look so bad at first but my legs were burning so good!

  10. Mary A on February 8, 2013 at 3:26 pm

I switched today and tomorrow because of my work schedule, so I just finished WSU #2 and the ab burner. My abs are definitely feeling all those plank moves! Tomorrow will be a MUCH celebrated rest day.

  11. Laura Sullivan on February 8, 2013 at 3:29 pm

My favorite mantra is: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” I’m using it training for the Disneyland 1/2 marathon!! Woot Woot!

  12. Christina D on February 8, 2013 at 3:34 pm

For my recovery day I ran 4 slow and easy miles to soak up some of the glorious sunshine that’s out today, pure bliss!!

Also totally dying from Livi cuteness overload!!! The Elmo pic is so stinkin adorable 😀 that grin is priceless

  13. Caitlin on February 8, 2013 at 3:35 pm

My recovery day is going great! After following the workout calendar this week, it felt so good to sleep in before work today! Those robes sounds uh-mazing.

  14. Becky on February 8, 2013 at 3:41 pm

I love comfy robes!!! There is a storm coming into town so I had to rush home and walk the dogs before it hit. It was a great walk for a recovery day and I love stormy weather! 🙂

  15. Stacey on February 8, 2013 at 3:42 pm

My recovery day was much needed! I’m tempted to do some hot yoga tonight before I jump into my weekend 🙂

My favorite mantra is “If you wait for the perfect conditions, you’ll never get anything done.” While I don’t consider myself a super type-A personality, this mantra always helps me get out the door to run when it’s raining (and I live in Seattle–so there’s always a good chance for that!).

  16. Heather on February 8, 2013 at 3:48 pm

I don’t really have a mantra but, I always think about my grandmother who lived to be 102 years old. She fought back to life many times and I think: If she can come back from the brink of death, surely I can give my all for 30 seconds of squat jumps!!

  17. Julia on February 8, 2013 at 4:01 pm

i am stuck in my apartment since i live in new england and we are getting blasted by a blizzard right now! so i did work out #2 today since i didn’t get to before! it was a great way to spend some of my time cooped up indoors!

  18. Kay on February 8, 2013 at 4:24 pm

I took yesterday off – after work went to my mom’s and cooked up a feast – so I’m doing workout 2 today. It’s hard! Harder for me that week 1, but I am still looking forward to it – then walking around our town with my husband in the snow.

I don’t really have a workout mantra – I just have to talk myself into how good I am gonna feel after, and it usually works.

  19. Melanie on February 8, 2013 at 4:28 pm

My mantra usually has Jillian Michaels voice and it says Push Push Push!!

  20. Kaitlin on February 8, 2013 at 4:40 pm

It’s a good thing it’s recovery day! Boy are my muscles weary after doing Workout #2 and Step Aerobics yesterday. I’m going to get a nice long walk in to stretch my legs out and get some fresh air. Favorite workout mantra? “Just 10 more.” You can do 10 more seconds of almost anything, and I find that when I’m growing weary telling myself to push through the next 10 seconds gives me that extra push to finish the workout (even if more than 10 seconds are left).

  21. Laura H on February 8, 2013 at 4:44 pm

I don’t remember where I read it, but someone asked someone how it is that celebrities and models have so much dedication and discipline when it comes to working out and eating right. They said that every day they are forced with many choices. If you always choose the choice with the most benefits, the healthy choice, the right choice, you’ll get there too.

Choose the choice! We always say it at our house. If I feel like bailing on a workout, my husband says, “Don’t you want to choose the choice?” Then I stop acting lazy and hit the gym. Works like a charm.

  22. Liz on February 8, 2013 at 5:04 pm

I am loving me this recovery day! Just a walk with the pup should do it. 🙂

  23. Racheal on February 8, 2013 at 5:37 pm

It’s a rest day, a night with the hubby and a glass of wine.

  24. Zana on February 8, 2013 at 5:44 pm

Loving my recovery day…My fav workout mantra is “Know your limitations and defy them”.

  25. Allison @ Train Eat Repeat on February 8, 2013 at 5:47 pm

haha elmo, that is too cute. My niece right now is all about her little couch, shes just so proud of it!

  26. Brittany @ Kitchen::Candid on February 8, 2013 at 5:49 pm

Aww Liv is so cute! I was a Barney fan myself. I wasn’t allowed to watch Sesame Street…my mom even edited my Disney movies! (Dragon in Sleeping Beauty?… I had NO idea!) Apparently I was easily frightened!

    • Fitnessista on February 9, 2013 at 12:31 am

how did she edit it? just fast forward the scary parts??

  27. Kristin on February 8, 2013 at 5:54 pm

Mantra- “Just keep running, just keep running!” 🙂

Loved reading what people used to search for you… The Fitness sista!!!!! LOL!!!!

  28. Kim on February 8, 2013 at 5:58 pm

Liv is too cute! It’s amazing what Elmo does to little kids. I didn’t take a rest day today–instead I actually did a long slow run on the treadmill for 45 minutes. It was nice to not push myself on the treadmill and enjoy watching House of Cards on my cell.

  29. Pam on February 8, 2013 at 5:59 pm

This rest day was very much needed! Everything is sore but feels oh so good. My abs haven’t hurt like this in awhile. 🙂

  30. Anita on February 8, 2013 at 6:07 pm

I just tell myself to do it for my skinny jeans… 😉

  31. Naomi on February 8, 2013 at 6:13 pm

Today was such a much needed rest day! My muscles were so sore after this week’s workouts and it is nice to have a break before tackling workout #2 again tomorrow. One workout mantra I like is “If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll keep looking how you’ve been looking.” I also like telling myself that I can do anything for 30 seconds (or however long) and before I know it I will be in the car going home.

  32. Hillary on February 8, 2013 at 6:18 pm

I made today an “active” recovery day. Just a little easy reading time on the elliptical. I was in a SERIOUS funk after work, and knew I needed to sweat a little before I came home. Worked like a charm!

  33. Beth E. on February 8, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I did some light yoga in my living room for recovery day – felt so good! My favorite workout mantra is “you are so much stronger than you think.” Simple, but it really helps me get through last few reps or mile.

  34. Jay on February 8, 2013 at 6:51 pm

My mantra: get ‘er done! And at the end of it all, woohoo!

  35. Jeannie on February 8, 2013 at 7:42 pm

Recovery/rest day..spending it with the hubby relaxing watching a redbox dvd with a glass of vino(Pinot noir)..earlier I made a carrot sweet potato ginger soup in the crock pot as a side to my chicken salad beast and it was so good!
My fav workout mantra is .. “you can do this do it for your health!” Also love these.. “You are just one workout from a good mood” and “this will take 1hour of your 24hour day”
    Xo

  36. Kim on February 8, 2013 at 8:10 pm

I always tell myself – Push harder now, wine (or whine) later!!!!

  37. Emily on February 8, 2013 at 8:12 pm

    “The fitness siesta”
Bahaha, do a post on that! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 9, 2013 at 12:30 am

i would need to do an entire series. haha

  38. Brianna on February 8, 2013 at 9:00 pm

I did an hour of yoga today to stretch out all my tight muscles. Looking forward to hitting workout 2 and abs tomorrow!

  39. Christy L. on February 8, 2013 at 9:15 pm

Ran a mile today and picked up my race packet for tomorrow! Had a relatively healthy day today with an omelet for breakfast and grilled fish tacos for dinner. Hoping to do the ab workout tomorrow!

  40. AmyC on February 8, 2013 at 9:33 pm

My favorite workout mantra ever (it has gotten me through many races) is “Pass that ass!”

  41. Sarah on February 8, 2013 at 9:43 pm

My favorite mantra is “if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” I apply this to all aspects of my life but it definitely helps push me out of my comfort zones when working out. Definitely looking forward to that ab burner tomorrow!

  42. Ashley on February 8, 2013 at 9:46 pm

I really struggle with staying motivated so it helps me to think of it as making one good decision. After that, make another good decision. I think this helps to keep myself present and know that all the “little” decisions, like food choices or extra activity really makes a difference.

  43. Kailey on February 8, 2013 at 10:53 pm

Did the Stairmaster workout today! Tomorrow will be a rest day…as much as I’ve loved every sweat sesh, I can’t wait 😉

  44. Jen on February 8, 2013 at 11:17 pm

My fav mantra is keep strong and carry on!

  45. Pam on February 8, 2013 at 11:19 pm

I had a lovely recovery day! I read about and tried out a bunch of new stretches for my neck and arms. Getting an overdue mani/pedi didn’t hurt either 🙂

  46. Gina @HealthLoveandChocolate on February 8, 2013 at 11:39 pm

I have been loving yoga even more than usual lately as well, I wish I could find an affordable hot studio near me. You definitely deserve a facial every once in a while, glad you enjoyed it!
(Also, Liv is adorable with her Elmo. Like, seriously…)

  47. Tracey on February 8, 2013 at 11:45 pm

spending the night just relaxing and enjoying my shows 🙂

  48. Maria on February 9, 2013 at 12:02 am

I woke up before the kids for the first time since Luke was born 5 months ago and did workout #2 and the an burner. It was so nice to workout without having to worry about when the baby would wake up from his nap or have to keep my 2.5 year old entertained while I work out. We are out of town this weekend for my nephew’s 7th birthday extravaganza and knew that it would be nearly impossible to fit in a workout. Even tough I got less sleep I felt more alert all day long.

  49. Amanda on February 9, 2013 at 12:17 am

Recovery day is ME time. I do homemade facials (with honey, cinnamon and baking soda) paint my nails, read health articles, catch up on my favorite blogs, try a new healthy cookie recipe, plan next weeks meals and end the day with a few yoga poses.
    My favorite mantras:
    Strong is the new skinny!
    Love the Burn!
Move over shoes, I want a kettlebell in every color 😉
    Earn your Shower 🙂

  50. Kristie on February 9, 2013 at 12:56 am

My mantra (more a question to get me motivated when I don’t feel like getting out of bed): Will I feel better if I work out? –usually it’s a yes. If it’s truly not a yes–if I’ve been overtraining–I let myself sleep in.
