5/26: Thoughts from the week

-Parents-to-be: blackout curtains are a fantastic investment.

curtains

We got some for Liv’s nursery in the loft, which I had been wanting to do because from the street at night, you can see into the loft because the windows in the living room are so high. It was a little creepy. Plus, every morning, Liv was waking up earlier and earlier along with the sun. 6am I can handle, but for the 5:30 days, I needed a cup of coffee.

Tom installed these last weekend, and it’s been 6:45-7am mornings once again.

-Lately, I’ve been extra careful to make sure the bottle top is screwed on completely.

bath

Since Liv can hold the bottle by herself for a little while –she needs help after a couple of minutes- I handed her the bottle and went to the kitchen to grab my pumping stuff so I could sit next to her and pump. I came back, and the bottle was already gone. I couldn’t believe she’d sucked it down so fast! She wanted more, so I quickly refilled the bottle and came back to see that she was completely drenched in milk. The top hadn’t been screwed on all the way, so for that 20 seconds or so, it had been leaking all over her pajamas. Bad mom points for me. She thought it was hilarious, and after she actually got a full meal (in her diaper), it was bath time.

-My sad face belly button is on its way to becoming a normal belly button again! I rejoice.

-I feel very lucky… and very happy. That is all <3

Ah, I am definitely getting some blackout curtains this weekend. I’ve been dealing with the same 5:30am nonsense. I think it will also help with going to bed, because sometimes Eli is tired at 7-7:30 but he feels it’s not right to go to sleep until it’s darker out. Sleeping til 7 would be amazing!

Livi is so precious, I love seeing all of her expressions and those adorable outfits!

We had to get blackout curtains for our bedroom. My husband is on night shift and cannot stand the smallest amount of light coming through.

  7. Sana on May 26, 2012 at 5:48 pm

I totally agree about the blackout curtains! Our daughter is now two, but she would still wake up with the sun if it weren’t for those curtains. We even taped a black garbage bag against the window behind the curtain to give extra darkness…not the prettiest of solutions, but since she sleeps in until 830/9 am, I am all for it 🙂

We have blackout curtains for OUR room. The neighbours are close and sometimes leave an outside light on.. grrr. It makes waking up a little harder though.. I have to wake up, switch on the bedside light (the sun!), take some vitamin D and let my body realise it is morning before my brain wakes up properly.

Hilarious!! I actually laughed out loud at the bottle story, my family thought I was going crazy. Then I filled them in and they enjoyed it, too. Liv is so adorable and you are such a great mom to her.

    • Fitnessista on May 27, 2012 at 1:48 pm

thank you, friend! i still laugh when i think about that story. she was SWIMMING in milk and looked up at me like, “what happened?!”

Blackout curtains are also good for those who sleep when the sun is out…like those of us who have to get up at 4:30am on Saturday mornings to work at the Farmer’s Market. Blackout curtains are AMAZING! 🙂

Aren’t babies fun? And messy?? I babysit one-year old twins and they are moving entirely to “adult” food now. Red sauce pasta days are the funnest. 😉

Haha! Thanks for sharing. We had our baby last week on the 19th (love her and love being a mom!) and already feel like we have made some parenting fails. It’s nice to hear other people’s stories.

    Gina and Tommy,
in the photos for today, Olivia is reminding me of her cousin, Caden at that age. All the photos of Livi make me smile. Give her a big kiss from her Nana.
    Love, MIL

It will probably go better than you are anticipating. We took my son (now 5) on two one-hour round-trip flights as a baby. I remember him laughing when we hit a patch of really rough turbulence (we live in the mountains so those landings can be rough). Other parents are always very understanding and everyone else will naturally keep their distance from you so don’t worry. How long will your flight be? I actually think it is much easier with a baby than a toddler or pre-schooler. We had more trouble entertaining my son on our last cross-country trip to Orlando.
