7/5: Friday faves

-Butter nail polish

Butter 1 of 1

It goes on like, well…. butter. And, unlike my beloved Essie polish, you don’t need 14 coats for the color to look vibrant. 2 coats and BOOM. I also love that the BX on base carries Butter nail polish 🙂

-Target sandals

Sandals 1 of 1

Meg told me about these sandals when I was looking for something to wear with a pleated skirt. Hint: they’re on the flip flop wall at Target– not by the rest of the shoes. They’re extremely comfortable, super cute, and were only $16.

-Drinking out of a Thai coconut:

Coconut 1 of 1

(I froze the meat to use for smoothies or raw tarts)

Did you know that Whole Foods sells Thai coconuts that have already been hacked for you? I had to rejoice because even though I put one hand behind my back while chopping, there’s always that small bit of fear that I’ll last-minute try to stabilize the coconut with said hand and lose it in the process. Thank you, Whole Foods.

-Watermelon eegees! If you haven’t been to Tucson, one of our “local things” is the eggee. (If you ever visit, make sure to try one!) It’s like a slushy, but with extremely fine ice so you can drink it. There are chunks of real fruit, and each month the flavor of the month changes (they always have lemon, strawberry and pina colada). The July flavor is watermelon and it is INSANE. We make it a goal to drink it as often as possible, and lament for its return the remaining 11 months of the year.

-An amazing July 4th with the fam.

We all went swimming at my uncle/aunt/cousin’s community pool.

For the most part, we had the entire place to ourselves and enjoyed a BBQ feast.

The spread 1 of 1

The Pilot and I brought some burgers, chicken hot dogs,

buns, guacamole, chips, grapes and s’mores supplies. (It was Livi’s first s’more! Welcome to the club, little love.) Madre brought more burgers and hot dogs, Sonoran hot dogs, chips/dip, and a huge box of Mexican pastries.

Smore 1 of 1

I had a blast swimming with Liv and the cousins. It was such a fun and relaxing night.

This morning, I’m subbing a Zumba class at work, and then coming back to enjoy the afternoon with the fam. Maybe a date night tonight 🙂

Hope you have a very happy Friday!

xoxo

Looks like a fin 4th! I have never tried Butter but I am in LOVE with Essie polishes. S’mores were on our 4th of July menu too: it’s never a proper BBQ unless there are S’mores!

Another nice thing about Butter nail polish is it’s 3 free. No Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, and Formaldehyde. Even better is 5 free which includes brands like Lacc, Chanel, and Zoya. These are also free of Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.

    • Amanda S. on July 5, 2013 at 11:52 pm

I looove Zoya! I recently painted my nails with the “Bevin” color and honestly it looks better than professional manicures I’ve had. It goes on smooth and evenly and my nails don’t look frayed/dead when I take it off. Sometimes you can find them on sale at ULTA (I bought a few when they were on clearance for $4.99!)

  3. Holli on July 5, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Hubs and I are coming to Tucson for our first time this December, I’m running the Marathon 🙂 So, I will need to hit you up for all the “musts” while we are there. So excited!

S’mores are the best! So fun that it was her first

  5. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on July 5, 2013 at 12:34 pm

Wow this polish looks amazing! I am going to have to try it! I love essie but I do hate that I have to put so many coats no to get the color that I want! Thanks for the recommendation!

I found some really cute sandals at Target for my brother’s wedding. They seem to have a reall good selection this year!

  6. Kelly@KellyRunsforFood on July 5, 2013 at 12:37 pm

That looks like a great 4th celebration! I’ve never tried the Butter polishes and I had one in my hand at Ulta to buy yesterday and changed my mind. I may need to go back now!

  7. Suzanne on July 5, 2013 at 12:38 pm

I need to try the Butter nail polish. I’m glad to hear you need a bunch of coats with Essie as well- because I thought I was doing something wrong since it was so popular and I need at least 3-4 coats of it.

The watermelon thing sounds amazing. I wish I needed to come to Tucson soon so I could try them. Our local summer treat is called Pineapple Whip. It’s awesome, but the watermelon thing looks so good!

  8. Elyse on July 5, 2013 at 12:39 pm

I LOVE Butter London. Just bought two new shades and LOVE them! I really like that pink… I should hurry up and buy it before summer’s over 🙂 Great blog!

  9. Morgan on July 5, 2013 at 1:06 pm

  10. Crystal on July 5, 2013 at 1:13 pm

  11. Jenni on July 5, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I haven’t had a s’more in a million years. Drool. Your blog posts with Liv always make me excited to be a mommy one day! You guys are so cute.

  12. Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome on July 5, 2013 at 1:28 pm

Stella! My favorite beer lately. So light and refreshing! Looks like a fun 4th of July!

  13. Erin @ The Grass Skirt on July 5, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Butter polishes are awesome. I just wish that they were cheaper!

  14. RunEatRepeat on July 5, 2013 at 1:40 pm

At the store the other day they were giving out free Smores as a sample. Like full on, full size smores. So random, so good.

  15. Lisa on July 5, 2013 at 1:43 pm

I love the butter polishes. They last so much better than essie. My favorite is the teddy girl, which is pale pink and super cute.
And I love that whole foods sells the already hacked coconuts. Which is why I wish there was a whole foods near me! Darn.
Sounds like your Fourth was an awesome celebration:)

  16. Katy C. on July 5, 2013 at 1:48 pm

OMG, now I’m totally craving s’mores and a nice cold Stella Artois! Thx, Gina. 😀 Haha.

  17. Karen @ Runner Girl Eats on July 5, 2013 at 3:17 pm

I have never tried Butter but completely agree with you about Essie. I need 4 coats for it to look bright and solid which means I am doomed to mess them up before they are dry.

  18. Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat on July 5, 2013 at 4:40 pm

I’ve never tried the Butter London nail polishes before. I always gravitate toward the OPI brand, but I’ll have to check it out! Love the new sandals!

  19. Emily on July 5, 2013 at 5:32 pm

Um, what is the name of that color?! LOVE!!

  20. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on July 5, 2013 at 5:47 pm

Oh my, where does one buy one of these eggees you speak of in Tucson? I’m a watermelon monster!! And I’m totally going to check out the Butter nail polish. I love my Essie, but as you said, it’d be nice not to have to do so many coats!

  21. Kaycee St. Pierre on July 5, 2013 at 7:51 pm

I don’t think I need to ask if Livi liked the S’more or not.
Love the colour of that polish AND those sandals though, I wish we had a target out here in Nova Scotia.. that’s why there’s online shopping though right 😉

  22. Jay on July 5, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Ah polished toes, I need to get on that. 🙂

  23. Jena@21days on July 5, 2013 at 8:51 pm

That s’more looks amazing! I think I’m going to have to make some at my next BBQ!

  24. Kelly @ Femme Fitale on July 5, 2013 at 11:08 pm

I’ve never heard of eggees, although I’ve never been to Tucson either! It sounds/looks amazing for a hot day.

Glad you had a happy 4th of July. S’mores are my favourite! We actually had a S’more roasting station at our wedding!!

  25. Carrie R. on July 6, 2013 at 6:45 am

Love that polish color!!!! So summer-y!!!!

Glad you guys had an awesome 4th…just the thought of
Livi enjoying her first s’more…Oh the CUTENESS…! 🙂

  26. Haley on July 6, 2013 at 8:38 am

Random question….the rug your sandals are on–is that from Target? Is it a rug or runner? If it’s the rug…how do you like it? We just bought the runner and are trying to decide if we want the rug as well….thanks!! 🙂

  27. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on July 6, 2013 at 9:21 am

lol “It goes on like, well…. butter.” ah Gina I LOVE YOU <3 I love Butter, too, but I only own one shade. A bright blue. And I agree, as much as I love Essie….. Butter has my heart.

  28. Fit Missy on July 6, 2013 at 10:06 am

    Awesome pics as always! =)

  29. CourtStar @ StarSystemz on July 6, 2013 at 12:24 pm

I want to try one of those watermelon-y drinks!

  31. Kali on July 6, 2013 at 5:48 pm

I just went to Target and bought the green and brown pair! Very comfy 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 7, 2013 at 11:05 pm

      twinsies! 🙂 awesome

  32. Joelle (on a pink typewriter) on July 6, 2013 at 7:22 pm

Cute sandals!! I usually like the sundresses Target has, although I feel like this year has been a miss.

    • Fitnessista on July 7, 2013 at 11:05 pm

same! i like the feed collection, though

  33. Anna on July 6, 2013 at 8:42 pm

That coconut looks delish! My mom (born and raised in Cambodia) is an expert in hacking those coconuts. Despite her best efforts to teach me, I’m still similarly terrified 😉

  34. Chelsea on July 8, 2013 at 3:57 pm

I will have to try the butter polishes. But PLEASE tell me what colour is on your nails in the s’mores photo?? I LOVE!

    • Fitnessista on July 8, 2013 at 4:02 pm

      it’s essie mochaccino 🙂

  35. Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run on July 8, 2013 at 5:04 pm

s’mores are the epitome of summer – mmm!

  36. Joy on July 12, 2013 at 12:22 am

Oooh I’ll have to look for butter – I always use opi or Sally Hansen quick dry which I actually think works better. I’ve started doing my nails at home as a money saver. I’m debating a gel system for at home but def haven’t made the plunge yet…
