8/17: Friday Faves

-Wedding weekend!

Our anniversary is tomorrow- I can’t believe so much has happened in the past 5 years. 3 military moves, 3 deployments, a house, a baby, traveling, adventures with the pups, hard times, amazing times, shenanigans.

Us at airport

It feels like yesterday I was checking him out in between glances at my accounting book in Starbucks and now, I get to see him hold our baby girl every day.

One of my favorite things about our wedding celebration: the cakes!! Of course.

Cake2

We had multiple tables like the one above with mini cakes for each guest, covered in chocolate ganache and a frosting flower. There were different flavor combos, and they were DELICIOUS. I didn’t eat any of the dinner that night since I was walking around with the Pilot talking to everyone, but I did have 2 mini cakes and some champagne.

The only whomp whomp of the wedding: the photographer. Note to any brides-to-be: seek out an amazing photographer. I was really disappointed with ours- all of my favorite photos are the ones my nana took… including this one:

That photo makes me laugh every time I see it. Art.

When I get off work tomorrow, we’re having a little date night celebration. Not sure what we’re doing yet, but I’m excited to hang out with my favorite guy. You can expect the standard mushy post in the morning, but in the meantime here are our past anniversary posts.

More faves: your awesome pics. Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback on the Rainy Day Workout! (And holy pinners! Thank you for spreading the word!) I intended it to be called the Rainy Day Workout because you could do it indoors with a set of dumbbells, but apparently it makes you rain sweat, too. I did the workout Tuesday night and it KILLED ME in the best way possible.

Some awesome sweaty pics:

Happy Anniversary! Our wedding photographer was awful too. He managed to get a few good pics but we never got our album and he was not very professional (after we signed a contract with him). Definitely a waste of money.

Man, I really need to read some books by Dr. Seuss. In Germany, they are not known at all, but I can’t wait to dig in!
    Have a great weekend!

Our photographs from our wedding sucked too. Our photographer showed up late so he missed the whole bride getting ready(thankfully my SIL took some pics of that) and we think he was drunk. He never delivered on the albums, dvd’s ect that we had paid for. After 6 months of badgering from my mom, he finally gave us a cd of unedited photos….and about 90% of them were crap. We could’ve taken the $ we spent on him, bought a nice camera and had a friend shoot the wedding on auto and we’d have had just as nice of pictures plus a great camera to keep afterwards!

He then disappeared and we never got any of the albums or anything. Last year we found a photographer who was looking to grow her portfolio so we did a wedding shoot with her for free and the photos were FANTASTIC!

YAY! Happy Anniversary!! I love that last quote–sooooo true 😉

I just read another blog post this week featuring that quote! It’s spreading all over the Internet like a wildfire! =]

  10. RachelG on August 17, 2012 at 1:41 pm

My fiance and I just picked our wedding photographer. We quickly learned the different quality levels and realized that yea, we’re going to pay a little more than expected for our dudes but the quality of their work is too good to pass up. We’ve heard horror stories of people trying to save money on wedding photographers and winding up with lots of boring photos, none of which have crucial relatives! How rude!

      P.S….HAPPY ANNIVERSARYYYYYY!!!!!! 🙂

Happy Anniversary, Pilot & Fitnessista!! Seeing how in love the two of you are and the sacrifices you’ve made for that love is very inspiring. Wishing you many, many more years of happiness and togetherness. 🙂

Happy Anniversary! Wow – another year has flown by. Can’t believe it’s another year already – feels like just yesterday you were living in the South and he was deployed and now, look at you! And thanks for sharing so openly over the years as you have, Gina. We appreciate the glimpse into your life and congrats to you two! (or Three with Liv!)

Happy Anniversary!!! you are so cute. Enjoy time w/ the hubby!!

  18. Kristen on August 17, 2012 at 4:01 pm

I love yours and Pilot’s love story. You guys really cherish each other everyday and not just on your anniversary. My MIL wrote me and my hubby a sweet note on our wedding day and the last thing she wrote in it was, “When things get tough, remember how you felt on this day.”
I feel y’all are a great example of what that quote stands for. I know being a military family can be rough and has the potential to cause problems in a relationship, but you two handle it so well. I believe when you and Pilot said “for better or for worse” you really meant it. I love how you just work together and support each other. Congratulations on 5 years of marriage and here’s to many many more. Cheers! 🙂

Happy 5 Year Anniversary!!!!!!! Hope you have a spectacular day with the Pilot!!!!!! =)
For the wedding photographer, I was fortunate in that someone told me that if you have to spend a little extra money somewhere, it is better to spend it on a really good photographer. I’m glad I listened! There were definitely some cheaper photographers, but the quality of their portfolios just wasn’t there. I’m glad your nana took some great pics!
Love that Dr. Suess quote! I am totally sharing that with my husband because it is so true! Thanks for sharing it with me!

Happy Anniversary!!! I love wedding anniversary’s! It’s like having a Valentine for life a second time per year:)

Happy Anni!!!!!!!! Hope you get some grownup time. Do you and Pilot EVER argue???? Hmmmm… 😉

Mine and hubby’s worst argument was over circumcision. That was a big one that lasted months. Then, my son was born with a foreskin deformity only cured by circumcision. How weird is that! Make sure you guys agree on that. lol

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2012 at 10:42 pm

haha that’s actually one of our big disagreements. i say no, he says yes, we’ll see who wins.

    Happy Anniversary :^)
Perhaps we had the same wedding photog? Her work was HORRID!!! We are supposed to get free anniversary sessions and first child sessions but it is very unlikely we will cash them in… Yep. That bad.

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2012 at 10:42 pm

haha we probably did. we found out the day of the ceremony that she didn’t include the cake cutting or reception in the package, so my uncle wrote her a check at the wedding so she would stay. insane.

Happy Anniversary, Gina & Tom!! So sweet!

Can I just tell you that I cried for 2 weeks after my wedding because of the photography. I was so disappointed. My head was all over the place and it was not my job to get key shots. We have no photos of my entire bridal party together, families, and the groomsman shots were so ridiculously posed half the guys heads were cut out. So many things missing, I still get depressed when I look at peoples amazing wedding photos. So, while I am so sorry you went through something similar, I am glad I can relate to someone else –because I made sure every one of my friends who got married after me got amazing photographers. And all the shots they should have! My photographer loved taking “artistic” photos of the backs of people heads. He seemed to get like the 25% of the people at the wedding I didn’t even know more than my own family. Or Mike for that matter. Lame.

Happy Anniversary! I hope you guys have an awesome night. Sounds like you really have a great relationship and can and have gotten through many ups and downs!

  33. Aja on August 18, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Hi! I just found your blog and I love it! Just wanted to let you know that. Happy anniversary! I’m so sorry your photographer wasn’t good. My fiance and I did a whole lot of research before picking ours. I’m a photography student, though, so I was very tough on photographers while we were looking.

  34. Negar M on August 18, 2012 at 3:38 pm

Happy anniversary (sorry so late!) The good thing about the horrible photographer: all the damage she can do is already done! Besides, you have your memories, your marriage, and your baby lovebug 🙂

Happy Anniversary!!!! You two are the cutest couple out there 🙂 I love the mini cakes for your guests idea! and what a beautiful cake!

  36. Kristi @ Hiding in Honduras on August 19, 2012 at 4:49 pm

Ditto hating the wedding photog! We got a handful of great pictures from him but overall not what I was hoping for. I do think that Facebook and Pinterest have a lot to do with dissatisfaction though…if I’d never seen 10,000 other wedding photos (after my own wedding) I probably wouldn’t be disappointed with ours. Thinking about my parents and grandparents I’ve only ever seen one or two photos from their wedding days! So when I think of it like that I feel lucky to have ~10 great photos. Also, people still tell us (4+) years later that our wedding was the best wedding they’ve ever been to so I guess we did something right!
