8/18: Meals and fitness for the week

Hi friends 🙂 How has your weekend been? Ours has been great but, as weekends tend to be, over way too quickly.

Yesterday marked the end of my “week sans sugar” cleanse. I was starting to get too dependent on sugary treats, especially in between teaching classes, so I decided to cut them out to see if the cravings and crashes went away. It helped quite a bit! I still had some cookie when a friend brought them to work -had to happen- and some maple syrup and honey here and there, but for the most part, it was nice to focus on fruits and veggies instead of desserts. I feel really great. The cupcake at my cousin’s shower yesterday was a nice grand finale to the week 🙂

This week, I’m excited to try out some new recipes.

Here’s what we have on the menu:

-Shredded chicken with spicy almond butter sauce, veggies, quinoa

Chicken crust pizzas and chopped salads

-Sweet potato and salmon cakes with sautéed veggies

These cookies (Livi LOVES them)

Smoothie bowls

-Standard prepped stuff: wash and chop fruits and veggies, make a batch of quinoa, bake/grill some chicken breasts

Smoothie bowl 1 of 1 4

The tentative fitness plan:

Sunday: OFF

Monday: Runday (6 miles) + some core work

Tuesday: HIIT and strength (45 min total)

Wednesday: Teach Zumba

Thursday: Teach DJ dance, assist Zumba

Friday: OFF

Saturday: Teach Zumba + Barre

Zumba

Training for my half is still going well -thank you for all of the fuel and belt tips!- but I definitely need new shoes. The ones I’ve been running with are from a year ago (yikes), so I’m thinking that’s on the agenda for today.

So tell me friends: Are you planning and prepping this week? What’s on the menu? Be sure to Instragram and tweet your food prep pics (tag me: @fitnessista)– I’d love to see them!

Have a very happy Sunday!

See ya later with some pics.

xoxo

Gina

Umm…by “sweet potato and salmon cakes,” do you mean sweet potatoes and salmon made into cakes, or just sweet potatoes next to salmon cakes? The former sounds intriguing!

Oh those cupcakes..!! I’m taking advantage of the fact that I don’t have to cook for my boyfriend for a few days and stocking up on things he doesn’t eat.. bring on the tofu, eggplant and salmon! Mmmmmmm

Salmon and Sweet potatoes are a favorite of mine too! I just made a sweet potato and salmon hash for breakfast. It was delish! Have a good week!

Definitely food prepping: baked chicken and pumpkin (which my kitty obviously liked too, while cooling down she stole two pieces), a new paleo protein bar recipe, freezing some spinach and nanas for smoothies. For once exercise is also pretty planed out, usually I tend to do whatever I feel like this day but since I joined a new gym and started an exercise routine it’s 3 times gym+hiit cardio this week, 1 time kickboxing and some yoga thrown in here and there.

We’re having a lot of different things! One night we are having crab stuffed tilapia, some chicken in there, and some Mexican taquitos! So yummy 🙂 I also washed and cut up veggies, packed tomorrows lunch, grocery shopped, and made a batch of granola! Good luck with the shoes! I always love the days after getting new shoes. Haha best motivation to run, even!

Pumpkin black bean burgers are on the menu over here, along with spring rolls with almond butter sauce, and enchilada bake, with homemade sauce.
Everything’s prepped. Now to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Just getting back from a vacation, so it may be a little challenging to plan all my meals for the week, but I’m definitely going to try. I think I’m going to try that smoothie bowl! Your pics of it look so good.

    P.S. I love that e-card!

What kind of shoes did you end up getting? Any advice on picking good ones? I need new shoes so bad! It’s so overwhelming going to buy them.

    Your week looks great!
I prepped Sweet Potatoes last night, chicken and veggies and eggy oats. I am on a huge eggy oats kick, absolutely love them and they are so easy and quick to cook ahead!
I am going on 1-2 cycling tours this week (about 2-3 hours) – I will cycle the highest pass of Switzerland in 3 weeks, need to practise!!

Sugar addiction is the worst! I become easily hooked to sweets in no time, so I always try to do sugar cleanses when necessary. The first few days are always the most difficult!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2013 at 10:38 am

      totally 🙂

  18. Kelly on August 19, 2013 at 1:03 pm

I sooo need to get on the bandwagon of prepping my food AND exercise each week. That is a future goal of mine. I can see how you have a much harder time staying on top of good eating and fitness if it isn’t planned out. Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe next week I’ll be prepared to tag you on Instagram!
    Congratulations on your anniversary!

I just got back from a whole week away on vacation, so I desperately need to go grocery shopping tonight and do my weekly prep, a little late this week :S

  20. Robin Vernon on August 19, 2013 at 4:40 pm

I teach Pilates and have always wondered if I should count them in my weekly workouts? I typically do about 75% and walk around assisting for the other 25%. What is your take?

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2013 at 4:54 pm

is it mat pilates? that’s a tough one. i definitely wouldn’t do legs or core on consecutive days with it. do you use any tools like the magic circle or weights?
