9/13: Friday faves

-A reunion with Mexican food. Since we all decided that I’m not about to attempt the glorious Italian food we ate -guess we’ll just have to go back one day!- I’m sticking with what I know.

Like enchis.

I had a little helper in the kitchen, and there’s no doubt that she made them even better than they usually are.

(Some cheese blobs were missing, though)

+ some tamales!

Nana brought these green corn tamales over, and this salad (with chicken, tamale, tomatoes, greens, avocado and salsa) was perfect in between classes

-Speaking of classes… I am SO sore. Like, it hurts a little to be alive. I felt great while I was teaching on Wednesday, but for my classes yesterday, it was a little painful. Sometimes moving helps, but the only thing that really does the trick is this thing:

Foam roller 1 of 1

The foam roller’s angry cousin.

At night, you can hear me rolling in the closet, trying to laugh instead of cry.

-I feel like I’m telling everyone the best secret ever, but this perfume is a life-changer.

Rose jelly 1 of 1

When I mentioned that I wished LUSH made a perfume that smelled like my beloved Ro’s Argan body conditioner or my favorite rose bubbleroon bath bomb, a reader (thank you, Lilah!) let me know about this perfume. It smells EXACTLY like my favorite LUSH products and was so inexpensive. You can check out the website here— they also have a ton of natural bath and body products.

-The cake at Katie’s “sprinkle” last night:

Sprinkle cake

I guess “sprinkle” is what they call baby showers for baby #2. (I had no idea. Cute, huh?) It was cowboy-themed, and we almost felt bad cutting into the beautiful cake our friend had made.. until we ate it 😉 Delicious.

-This print from Positano. We picked up a few, and surprisingly they made it back unharmed. I’m excited to frame them:

Moving Comfort was so kind to send me some goodies to try from their fall lookbook. I’m a huge fan of their sports bras -they keep things in place nicely, even during high-impact workouts- and when the weather cools down, I’ll absolutely love wearing the comfy jackets and pants.

-This brow pencil. Tarte is one my favorite makeup lines, but at almost 30 years old, I’m still learning how to put on makeup. A little brow pencil goes a long way!

What are you loving this week?

Do you wear perfume? I stopped for quite a while since Livi’s skin is sensitive, but find that essential oils don’t bother her.

Any fun fitness plans on the horizon?

Last chance to pre-order our DVD! It official launches on MONDAY 🙂 Thank you again to all of you for your support– we hope you love it 🙂

xoxo

So excited for your DVD on Monday! I wish I could cook Mexican food as good as you. Let’s make a deal, I’ll make you some great Italian if you make me some great Mexican. Sound good? Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2013 at 4:26 pm

yes! come to tucson and we’ll have a cooking/dancing party 🙂

Mexican food is the best! Those enchiladas look fab! Oh my goodness, that cake is seriously amazing! It looks too gorgeous to eat! Love the new workout clothes too!

  3. Alisha @ Alisha's Appetite on September 13, 2013 at 4:18 pm

Oh what I would give to try one of your nana’s tamales! They always sound so good but I know it’s impossible to try one 😉 I’ve never heard of a “sprinkle” before, but I kind of like it! And I think learning how to put on makeup is always a work in progress.

  4. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on September 13, 2013 at 4:18 pm

I like Bath and Bodyworks’ body sprays. My favorites are Sweet Pea and Vanilla Bean Noel.

  5. Annie @ Annie Get Your Run on September 13, 2013 at 4:20 pm

I love Moving Comfort. As a large-chested woman (DDs), their Juno bra is the end all be all for me. I’m excited to pick up a new one at the RnR Philly expo this weekend (that’s my fun fitness plan). 🙂

  6. Angie on September 13, 2013 at 4:20 pm

YUMMM those enchis look sooo good. But Liv looks sooo adorable with the missing cheese in her cheeks. LOL she has to test it. She knows good food.

That cake is beautiful. I am sure it did taste yummy.

LOVE the painting of Positano. Italy is on my bucket list.

  7. JennP on September 13, 2013 at 4:22 pm

I wear Coco Mademoiselle when I go out to dinner or something, but day to day I just use my Olive Body Butter (which has a subtle, fresh scent). That active wear looks SO comfy. And lastly, I think emphasEYES is one of the most clever product names I’ve ever heard 😉 Happy Friday!

  8. Marissa on September 13, 2013 at 4:25 pm

your enchiladas always look so good. maybe things just look good to me when i don’t cook them! glad to know about the perfume. i’ve been looking for more natural perfumes.

  9. Christine@ Apple of My Eye on September 13, 2013 at 4:28 pm

Those enchiladas look AMAZING! I still can’t get over how quickly Liv is growing up. She’s turning into quite the pretty little lady! Gets it from her mama ;).

I would love to get free workout clothes in the mail! Blogging=best job ever haha!

  10. Lucie@FitSwissChick on September 13, 2013 at 4:31 pm

The Enchiladas look SO good!! So cute that Olivia helped.
I have a love/hate relationship with foam rollers, though I love how it losens up my muscles!
I wear Giorgio Armani’s ‘Sensi’ or Tommy Girl – my faves.
I did a killer HIIT workout today, alternating between outdoor sprints, stairrunning in the house, bike sprints and jumping rope. Phew! Happy weekend Gina!!

  11. Tom T. on September 13, 2013 at 4:33 pm

Enchiladas are a favorite but I never make them as good as the local Mexican restaurant. However, yours look like they are from the local restaurant. Got an easy recipe?

  12. Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine on September 13, 2013 at 4:37 pm

I go in stages with perfume sometimes I will wear it everyday and other times I find it really bothers my nose and can’t wear it for weeks. But right now I am loving Guess’s Seduction Perfume!

  13. Katie on September 13, 2013 at 4:42 pm

I don’t wear perfume but will often dab a little lavender essential oil on my wrists. 🙂

Power yoga tonight and tomorrow, then meditation class on Sunday. 🙂 My favorite class of the week! I always end up falling asleep and grinding my teeth, but still feel blissed out of my mind afterwards!

Your enchiladas always look so delicious! 🙂

  14. Caity @ Moi Contre La Vie on September 13, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Seriously craving comfort food – that top shot is making me drool at my desk!

  15. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on September 13, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Those enchiladas looks AMAZING!! You are making me so hungry! We had pasta here tonight but nothing fancy – getting ready for a tough long run tomorrow! Enjoy your Friday night!

P.S. your little kitchen helper looks adorable!

  16. Liz @ I Heart Vegetables on September 13, 2013 at 5:00 pm

Loving those workout clothes, and Mexican is my FAVORITE!

  17. Kari @ KeepingupwithKari on September 13, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Oh my gosh, those enchiladas….GIRL! They look so good! And the brow pencil..I’m gonna have to try that. I have blonde eyebrows and they’re naked in some spots. It’s so annoying. Have a good weekend girl!

  18. Jackie on September 13, 2013 at 5:10 pm

I do wear perfume I switch it up a lot

  19. Abby on September 13, 2013 at 5:17 pm

I can’t get over how grown up and gorgeous Liv is!

  20. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on September 13, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Moving Comfort is the only brand for sports bras that I wear — I always feel nice & secure 🙂

Love that print from Positano! A great souvenir!

  21. Kelly on September 13, 2013 at 5:34 pm

Our gym is thinking about bringing in an Insanity class to the group fitness lineup, so they invited a certified insanity instructor to demo. Tonight is the 2nd class. Not gonna like, I was super scared to try it the 1st time, but now that I know what the format is I’m going to go again tonight. I totally had to modify quite a bit, but you’ve got to start somewhere with the really challenging stuff, right? Not like my beloved Zumba but good to do different things!

    Have a good weekend!

  22. Melissa on September 13, 2013 at 5:54 pm

A sprinkle is a small version of a shower. Get it? Big heavy shower, small trickling sprinkle.

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2013 at 6:05 pm

I get it, just had never heard that before!

  23. Michelle on September 13, 2013 at 5:58 pm

You might disagree but I think Olivia’s profile looks so much like Avery’s at that age. Adorable. 🙂

  24. Annette @ FitnessPerks on September 13, 2013 at 6:04 pm

    I love enchiladas! So yummy.

    And those clothes look fab!

  25. Emily @ Emily Rocks the Road on September 13, 2013 at 6:33 pm

I used to wear perfume a lot, then I got into this natural products kick and was creeped out by some of the ingredients in commercial perfumes. I love my Chanel Mademoiselle, but I’ll only wear it once in a while to feel pretty 🙂

I’m loving that it’s FRIDAY! Woot!

  26. Gretchen @ A Fit Fashionista on September 13, 2013 at 6:42 pm

    Those clothes look awesome!

  27. Sarah Anne on September 13, 2013 at 6:49 pm

I JUST found out that LUSH DID make a perfume scented like Ro’s Argan (heavenly. Heeeaaaavenly)!! Then they discontinued it. Then brought it back, and killed it again! How did I miss this? It was called Rose Jam.

I wear Dear John and 25:43 by LUSH.

  28. Natalie on September 13, 2013 at 7:44 pm

Your little helper is so cute! I’m not sure my son is quite ready for that yet. Do you use any type of stool/steps when she is helping you in the kitchen (counter logistics…)?

  29. Paige@FitNotFad on September 13, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Those Moving Comfort pants look so cute! And I’m not a huge Mexican fan but since I’ve moved to Tucson I’ve been inching a little bit more into the Mexican food pool….those enchiladas look delicious!! I wear vanilla body spray from Victoria’s Secret….perfume is saved for date night with the boyfriend 🙂 I love vanilla though so anything I do wear is always vanilla. It’s just my favorite!

  30. Ashley @ Blondes on a Mission on September 13, 2013 at 7:59 pm

I won’t workout in anything other than moving comfort’s Fiona bra. I’ve been wondering about their workout attire. Glad to hear its good too, might need to pull the trigger and order some. 🙂

  31. Alissa on September 13, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Love the perfume, I am allergic to most but I will be exploring that site! I love the soft smells 🙂

Thank you for the link for Moving Comfort, living in Texas for the past 6 years I only have spring/summer clothes. Now that I will be training for 2 half marathons in the winter, I will be needing warmer clothes!

I had no clue what a sprinkle party is either.

  32. Bonnie on September 13, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Those enchis look so good– do you have a recipe for it? Fave scent at the moment is in the form of a drugstore body wash, ha: Caress Scarlet Blossom. Very fall-ish scent 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2013 at 11:33 pm

ohh i’ll have to check it out! no recipe for that one- it was on the fly, and as fast as possible to my little helper didn’t get distracted haha

  33. Jodie on September 13, 2013 at 8:36 pm

The enchiladas look amazing. Can you tell me which brand of brown rice bread and tortillas do you buy? I have not been able to find one I like yet thanks

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2013 at 11:33 pm

i haven’t bought brown rice bread in a while since i’ve been making paleo bread here at home, but i buy the trader joe’s brown rice tortillas every week and store them in the freezer

      • jodie on September 14, 2013 at 10:30 am

Thank you very much for this. I so appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question. Cannot wait to get my DVD in the mail.

I bought the ingredients to make Paleo bread so hopefully I will like it. 🙂

  34. Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength on September 13, 2013 at 9:03 pm

I LOVE the Moving Comfort clothes. So so cute!!!!!!! I usually wear bath and body works sprays and I was just thinking the other day it might be time to grow up and get some perfume at some point haha.

  35. Ashley @ Life and Fitness on September 13, 2013 at 9:18 pm

That cake is gorgeous! I wouldn’t want to eat it either. I’ve never heard of having a little baby shower for baby number 2. I’m going to a baby shower tmr and can’t wait to see the cake!

I agree with Kristin, you mention a fragrance that smells great and doesn’t cost much—-sold! I just ordered the rose jelly too! YAY! I love perfume………..cologne. I splurged on Chanel Coco Noir, love it…..but I like a moderate price on a lot of things. Thanks again!

So I did three of your Tabata videos and a Barre video today and I have to say, you’re a great trainer! I feel like I am getting a VERY effective workout, while doing it with a good friend. Thank you for offering free videos for those of us that cannot afford a personal trainer. It is MUCH appreciated!

  47. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine on September 15, 2013 at 9:03 am

Oh goodness, those enchis look SO wonderful. Tamales are one of my favorite, favorite, favorites. But I live in GA, and I don’t know anyone who makes them! I purchase the Trader Joe’s tamales and they aren’t too shabby! (:

  48. Kris on September 15, 2013 at 9:21 am

I’ve been buying scents from Somethin Special for years; I highly recommend their products!! Love Moving Comfort sports bras too!

  49. Laura B on September 15, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Just got back from France and I’m thinking we need some Mexican food for dinner! My son sure missed his bean burritos.

Love having a little helper in the kitchen. I think it helps teach them how to eat well. My son will almost always taste test whatever we’re making even if he doesn’t eat more of it at dinner.

  50. april on September 15, 2013 at 5:21 pm

liv is the cutest little sous chef ever 🙂 and those enchi’s look delicious, by the way!
