12/8: Meals and fitness for the week

This post is on auto-publish, since Livi and I are bundled up, drinking warm apple cider and cheering for the Pilot in his marathon. I’m so proud of him with all of the training he’s done.. and I have to admit that I wish I was running the half marathon that’s also occurring this morning. He’ll have the race glory for both of us, and I helped him carb load this week, so that counts for something, right? Moral support. I do what I can.

A dark picture of the cioppino mountain that I conquered:

Cioppino

This week feels like a “normal” week, since it’s right before the holiday hustle and bustle is in FULL swing. I type that, but then I look at our calendar to see everything going on. I have a doc appointment, teaching audition, wive’s coffee and it’s the squadron Christmas party. There are also some fun projects I’ve been working on, and it’s time to start studying for my Weight Loss Specialist certification. I took a little hiatus after my last PT test, but it’s time to get back into it. This is also week 2 of the 10 Days of Giveaways! Tomorrow’s prize is worth net $1,000. Buckle up, buttercups <3

Here’s what my tentative fitness schedule is looking like for this week:

(if you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll get a week of workouts in tomorrow’s newsletter! Hope you enjoy)

Sunday: OFF

Monday: HIIT (will probably do Frost HIIT again) and strength circuit

Tuesday: Zumba

Wednesday: Legs and Yoga

Thursday: Spin (steady and HIIT)

Friday: Zumba audition

Saturday: Yoga

Sessions

It feels SO glorious to be in a regular yoga practice right now. I’ve been learning some new arm balances and tricks, but mostly enjoying the sense of “zen” during a busy time. During yesterday’s class, we didn’t really do anything *new* but it was still extremely challenging. It’s funny how the practice can vary from day to day, and some of my usual easy poses were a lot more difficult. I’ve found that I can finally trust myself in tripod headstand… I’d always been worried of being the yoga domino rolling into the poor person behind me.

The tentative dinner and prep plan for the week:

-Grilled rockfish with lemon and capers, maple roasted carrots, asparagus

-Bean-free chili and cornbread with honey butter (a certain someone always licks the butter off and says “I want more butter!” Livi likes it, too)

Chili 1 of 1 3

-Chicken and fettucine alfredo (dairy-free sauce) roasted veggies

Prep:

Gingerbread amazeballs

Paleo bread

Energy bars

-Chop and wash fruit and salad veggies

So, tell me friends: what’s on the menu this week? Are you trying any new recipes or fitness classes?

Have a happy Sunday and I’ll see ya later with some weekend pics.

xoxo

Gina

Why no beans in the chili???

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 11:37 am

it’s a recipe that we recently tried and love! i’ve added beans to it before though

      • Amy on December 8, 2013 at 11:47 am

Yeah I can’t imagine “chili” without some beans in it! They are so goof for you too!

        • Amy on December 8, 2013 at 11:48 am

          *good

          • Kristina on December 9, 2013 at 7:31 pm

you should research why beans aren’t part of the paleo diet..i wouldnt be so quick to say they are “good” for you…

    • Liz @ The Sixth Letter on December 8, 2013 at 12:05 pm

I learned from watching Top Chef that apparently beans are not in traditional chili recipes at all! So crazy to me!

      • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:45 pm

i feel like beans are used for fillers in chili, so it’s fun to experiment with hearty recipes using different meats and lots of veggies (like zucchini and sweet potato!)

  2. Laura B @ Fit Mama Love on December 8, 2013 at 11:32 am

Oh man, didn’t win! Maybe next time. 🙂 have fun cheering on the pilot!

Where are you getting your Weight Loss Specialist Certification from? I’d be interested in some sort of nutrition certification, but not necessarily weight loss specific.

  3. jodie on December 8, 2013 at 11:35 am

I am trying 2 new to me yoga dvds this week. Can you offer suggestions with the paleo bread? I made it and had to throw it out. Was toooooo heavy/dense. Not sure what I did wrong.Maybe you could make a video of you making it:)

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 11:38 am

      what dvds are you trying??
i make it with 1 1/2 cups of almond meal instead of 2. it’s not quite so dense that way.

      • jodie on December 8, 2013 at 8:40 pm

thank you I will try using that amount of almond flour next time. Kathryn Budigs aim true yoga dvd and fit body yoga by Gwen Lawrence

  4. Kristen on December 8, 2013 at 11:36 am

It’s funny you mention zen. The other day on Ellen, she was talking to a guest about yoga. The guest was telling her that she loved how relaxed and zen she felt while doing yoga. Ellen said the guest must be doing the poses wrong because they are anything but relaxing and zen. Haha

    • Karissa on December 8, 2013 at 12:26 pm

      Hahaha this made me laugh!

  5. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on December 8, 2013 at 11:41 am

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:45 pm

we’re going baaaaaack in time hahah

  7. Katie O on December 8, 2013 at 11:48 am

I was commenting to ask how sign up for your newsletter but now I see the box to check below this comment, haha. I’m in need of motivation – being in shape and at my perfect weight was never a problem when I lived in the mountains but now that I’m in the “real world” I find an extra 10lbs and laziness have accompanied the move! 😉 I’m sure a newsletter in my inbox would help.

  8. Danica @ It's Progression on December 8, 2013 at 12:05 pm

Can’t wait to see what you’re giving away this next week!
Food prep for me today is mostly just washing and prepping fruits and veggies, plus making some meals for my husband to have as lunches throughout the week.

  9. Livi on December 8, 2013 at 12:08 pm

good luck with your teaching audition!!

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:44 pm

      thank you!

  10. Madelyn on December 8, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Which cornbread recipe do you use? 🙂

  11. Katie @ Live Half Full on December 8, 2013 at 12:23 pm

My goal this week is to fit in as much exercise as possible! We have five holiday parties, so it’ll be a busy one but I’ll do what I can!

Here’s my meal plan for the week!

  12. Stacie on December 8, 2013 at 12:23 pm

    Your dinners sound yummy!

  13. Karissa on December 8, 2013 at 12:28 pm

Yay for the pilot, woooo 26.2 miles that is quite a feat!
I’m so sorry that you weren’t able to run the half marathon but good on you for listening to your body. And I totally think you get some of the by proxy runner’s status. 😉

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:43 pm

      hahah, thank you 🙂

  14. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine on December 8, 2013 at 12:38 pm

I have loved all of these giveaways. Crossing my fingers for week 2 🙂 On the menu this week is something quick and easy! Probably quesadillas and soup. It’s finals week, so I’m studying, studying!

  15. Carla on December 8, 2013 at 1:23 pm

I’m actually loving the chili no beans. I’m going to look up the recipe now. My husband is very ill and beans aggravate his disease. Sounds perfect to me!

  16. Lucie@FitSwissChick on December 8, 2013 at 1:44 pm

    Good luck for the pilot!
I nned to make some gingerbread amazeballs, they sound so delicious!
I discovered a oatmeal flatbread recipe (1 eggwhite, 1 tbsp jumbo oats, spices – mix and bake in a skillet until crispy) and I make it all the time lately and eat it with my lunch or with some hummus as a snack.
I’m doing Yoga on a regular basis since a few months too after a longer break and I absolutely LOVE it. It’s Monday and Wednesday lunchtime and I’m always looking forward to it so much!

  17. Emily on December 8, 2013 at 1:52 pm

I hate beans in the worst way possible so that recipe sounds yum! Would you mind sharing, or have you linked up to it before?

  18. Shaina Anderson on December 8, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Good luck to the Pilot this morning!!

My fitness plan for the week is 3 bikram classes, a total body circuit day and a 3 mile run. It feels So good to be back in a regular yoga routine after the tri. I missed it so much and my body feels so much better when I practice regularly.

Meals for the week: spaghetti squash w/ roasted broccoli (Tripp’s specialty) and red pepper cashew “cheese” sauce, homemade pizza, tempeh tacos, and lentil soup/sourdough bread.

    Have a wonderful week!

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:42 pm

      thank you, you too!
how is the bun doing with bikram so far? i’ve been missing it- definitely need to dust off the class pass and go!

      • Shaina Anderson on December 8, 2013 at 11:41 pm

Good! I actually feel like I have more energy for class than I did before I got pregnant, but that could also be the glorious 2 hour naps I’ve been taking with Tripp haha. I started the pregnancy modifications early so I could get the hang of it by the time I actually *had* to do it. Most forward compression postures are slightly modified, the spine strengthening series is different but I get to do wheel which I LOVE, and there are still lots of glorious backbends. The plan is to practice the whole way through! I can’t wait to get a picture of myself doing camel at 9 months. 🙂

  19. Donna on December 8, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Best wishes to the Pilot and his 2 greatest fans for a safe finish!

No new recipes this week it’s going to be a fresh and faithful tried and true menu.
Very busy this week so I’ll be doing classes at the YMCA

  20. Cassie on December 8, 2013 at 2:33 pm

I tried Tara Stiles new YouTube yoga flow this morning, and it was AWESOME! It really worked my butt off. I’m trying to do more HIIT since it’s too cold to convince myself to go outside and run, so I might give the Frosty HIIT a try. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on December 8, 2013 at 3:41 pm

let me know if you like it!!

  21. Abby on December 8, 2013 at 3:07 pm

Will you post the no bean chili recipe? I love beans but my husband won’t touch them. I also LOVE chili so am always on the lookout for good, bean-free recipes:)

      yep, i definitely will!

I’ve got to dig up a good veggie chili recipe because Boston is freezing these days! My new fitness love (now that I’ve found out I’ve got a torn tendon in my foot) is Bikram yoga. It’s tough getting through the classes but I’m loving it and it helps my foot so much!

Looking forward to the workouts for the week!

  41. Traci on December 13, 2013 at 8:28 pm
