A Date with the Madre

Hey friends hey 😀 How’s your morning going??

I took my madre on a little date last night 🙂

We already have tickets to see Wicked while it’s here (two times, haha) but figured we’d take a chance at the Wicked lottery. If we won, fabulous, if not, we’d just grab dinner by the university. 2 hours before every show (they do this in NY, too), you can wait in line to put your name in for orchestra seats. If they call your name, you get up to two baller spots for $25 each. Amazing.

They stamped our hands with a lovely bright green witch hat:

and I proceeded to get it all over my shirt within 5 minutes- you can’t take me anywhere 😉

Everyone who waited in the lottery was so nice – we cheered for each person when their name was called. Then they called my madre’s name! Wahoo 🙂

We had some time before the show, so we grabbed some dinner at Lovin’ Spoonfuls, an awesome vegetarian restaurant.

We each enjoyed the garden veggie plate:

lovin

A mountain of roasted veggies atop brown rice with a tahini sauce

+ garden salad with balsamic

Every time I eat at Lovin’ Spoonfuls, I want to go hug the owner and say thank you. The food is always so delicious, fresh and it feels like someone in your family just made it for you.

Inside the theatre, we grabbed some coffee, a reusable shopper and Wicked coffee mug

wicked3

and watched a stellar performance of my all-time favorite musical (and that’s coming from a HUGE musical theatre nerd).

wicked

I had the chance of seeing Wicked a couple of years ago in NY and it was just as amazing as I remembered- so good it will make you want to cry 🙂

It was the madre’s first time and she LOVED it, too. We spent the entire car ride back to the madre’s gushing about the intricate costumes, the buttery voices and Fiero’s supreme hawtness. 😉

This morning, I’m off to make some b-fast and take the puppers for a walk before yoga.

Have a great day <3

How awesome! I’m so glad you guys got to do that. I grew up a couple of hours from NYC, so the school would take us to see shows, Les Mis was my fav, but it’s been soooo long since I’ve seen anything.

    ahhh i love wicked!
    i’m so jealous.
i entered the lottery in chicago when i was there a few summers ago, and didnt win 🙁 such a bummer.

so despite my love, i still haven’t seen it performed! how is that possible? haha!

enjoy your walk + yoga, gina! sounds like a great saturday morning!
that’s so fun that your mom “won the lottery!”

  4. Jill on January 8, 2011 at 10:40 am

I want to go see Wicked so badly, but I doubt they’ll make a trip to Winnipeg (at least not in the winter! 🙂 ) That sounds fun, I had my parents over yesterday as well as one of my brothers and his girlfriend and we ordered pizzas and played a few board games. It was fun. And I love DJ Earworm’s (but weird, weird name) yearly mixes. 2009’s was awesome.

I would LOVE to see Wicked! And how fun that you won tickets. I never really have luck like that. Sounds like a great night with the madre. 🙂

Mum dates are the best, aren’t they? I realllly need to get my behind to the theatre to see Wicked.

  9. Kara on January 8, 2011 at 11:05 am

That sounds really fun! I’ve only read the book and I can’t remember the last time I saw a show…maybe Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center (hilarious, I highly recommend if you’re ever in D.C.)

I love broadway musicals! We lived in Germany for years and every thanksgiving we went to London to see a show. One time we got these really expensive Phantom seats and when we got there we were in the absolute last row, it was makeshift with metal folding chairs and to top it off we needed binoculars to see! Last time I was in NYC I went with 5 sorority sisters to see Legally Blonde…surprisingly really good!

  11. hippierunner on January 8, 2011 at 11:10 am

Aww that sounds like such an awesome night! Haha love how you posed with the poster!

  12. Lili on January 8, 2011 at 11:17 am

  13. Rebecca on January 8, 2011 at 11:18 am

How fun! My mom and I saw Wicked the last time we went to NYC, Nicole Parker was playing Elpheba.
We decided on a Saturday night to see if there were any available tickets, so we just showed up at the theater. Of course, it was sold out so we did the lottery thing but our names didn’t get called.
Then somebody told us we could wait in line for cancellations; the line wasn’t long and it was about 2 hours until curtain so we decided to go for it. Literally 8 minutes before curtain, they released all the tickets that hadn’t been claimed and all of us waiting in line got to sit 10th row center! We paid face value for the tickets (no $25 deal for us!) but it was totally worth it!

    • Fitnessista on January 8, 2011 at 2:17 pm

i saw nicole parker play elphaba too- her voice is ridiculous!

  14. Brittany on January 8, 2011 at 11:20 am

  18. The Peanut Butter Addict on January 8, 2011 at 11:29 am

That’s great that you guys got the Wicked lottery! I’ve tried those lottery things before and it’s not so fun when you’re standing outside waiting in below freezing weather.
I’ve been listening to that workout jam lately when I go to the gym! Very addictive.

  19. Lindsey on January 8, 2011 at 11:32 am

I love to work out to the United States of Pop. Now when I hear any of those songs individually I am disappointed because I prefer the mix!

  24. Laura @ Meet Virginia on January 8, 2011 at 11:53 am

I L-O-V-E Wicked! I have seen it twice, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it 100 more times. 😉 I have the soundtrack and I listen to it all the time – haha!

Wicked is all my time favorite musical! I literally cried when I saw it because I loved it so much. The book was awesome too. 🙂

  34. Janna on January 8, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Yes! The Wicked Lottery is the BEST kind of lottery! I had no idea they did that in NYC too. As a student I get pretty cheap tickets to the shows but the seats suck! Is it just for Wicked, or other shows? How did I not know about this!!! What’s your favorite song in the show? Mine’s “For Good”, such a pretty song.

Also, those veggies look SO good right now.

    • Fitnessista on January 8, 2011 at 2:14 pm

  47. Teresa on January 8, 2011 at 4:08 pm

They do that at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood too! On my birthday my mom won the same contest and we got front row center seats for $25- what an amazing experience (we got those same lovely buttons, haha)! Seriously I fell in love with the costumes and kept talking to people about them who had already seen the show, but they really had no comment. I finally figured it out- that since I was in the front row I had a much better view of the costumes than all my friends who had the show. But seriously I am still obsessed with those beautiful outfits! I just love that musical, and I think it’s great that you and your mom were able to win the lottery and see the show!

    Lunch looks delish!

  48. M on January 8, 2011 at 4:22 pm
