a Rose in a restaurant

Hey hey! How are you? What’s going on this morning? This summer has definitely been one full of changes and surprises, so instead of having a set routine, it changes by the week. Livi is doing lots of different camps, I’m teaching and subbing classes, and trying to find some fun activities for miss P. I’d love to get her into a music class out here! (She was doing gymnastics but they canceled the class for the rest of summer since everyone is going out of town.)

Some adventures from lately:

The Pilot had a work event on Friday, and madre and nana had just left. So, to cheer us up a bit, I took the girls to their favorites: the splash pad, and to Bruster’s for ice cream. It made us all feel a bit better. 😉 We came home for BBQ leftovers for dinner and early bedtimes all around.

Saturday morning, the Pilot took the girls out for breakfast while I slept it. I was planning on a 10am yoga class, and snoozed until 9:35. It was EVERYTHING. I definitely need to repay the favor next weekend for Father’s Day.

The yoga studio is in the cutest building downtown, above a decor and art shop. Everything in here is sooooo cute, and I’m thankful it’s closed 90% of the time I’m there because I want to buy all the things.

Art and soul

Saturday afternoon we hung out around the house, and then went to the Salty Snapper for dinner.

Salty Snapper is probably the worst name ever for a restaurant. It just doesn’t sound appetizing? I also say the name like a pirate every time we pass it. Anyway, we heard it was good, and they have live music so if P shrieked it would be drowned out, so we decided to go for it.

You guys. It was DELICIOUS. It’s under the same owners of Friends (which is another fave here, and should have been my cue that the food would be excellent) — dinner was fantastic and the service was great.

Behold, the best salmon I’ve had in V-town so far:

Gimme dat salmon

I ate it in about 12 seconds.

We’re still trying to get the hang of entertaining P during meals out. Sometimes she’s into it and will happily last the entire meal, and other times, especially if she’s too hungry or tired, she’s not a fan. When that happens, one of us will play with her outside until the food arrives.

Some of the things that help:

-the famous buckle toy, but she can now buckle everything in less than 30 seconds

-ordering both the girls’ food and an appetizer the second we sit down

-just going with the flow. I feel like we’re always ready to bolt if we need to. One parent will take the girls to the car while the other packs the food into takeout boxes and pays the bill. We’e only had to do this a couple of times, but we always have an evacuation plan

-Eating as quickly as humanly possible. We both shovel our food into our mouths as quickly as possible because who knows how long until the cookie crumbles. I have to remind myself to slow down during date nights because I’m used to eating like I have no idea how long the meal will last

Miss P is SO active and hates being restrained to a small area. We like going out to eat as a family, so we’re just trying to slowly teach her the ways…. she’s still pretty little. I told the Pilot we would laugh about it one day as I was holding her in my lap, eating salad with my left hand, and she was yelling “OUTSIDE!” and poking me in the eyeball. One day. haha.

We took the girls bowling, which was a lot of fun,

Tom and P bowling

and after they crashed, we had wine, chocolate and watched Netflix.

Sunday morning was coffee and donuts, errands and chores,

Cart of food

and I taught an afternoon spin class.

As far as meal planning goes, we planned some simple meals:

-Clean out the freezer (I had organic turkey and sole that I wanted to use) with veggies

-Harney Cobb

-Dinner out

-Sunbasket meals x 2 (we switched to the family plan because the girls are eating more, but I don’t think the menu options are as diverse)

-BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, salad

-Takeout (Mellow Mushroom pizza)

veggie loaded no cheese pizza

I’m teaching quite the mix this week: Spin, barre, BODYPUMP, Zumba and yoga! Pretty much all the things I love in one week. 😉

Tonight, it’s girls night, and I’m looking forward to meeting some of the wives here.

Hope you have a happy Tuesday and I’ll see ya soon!

xoxo

Haha, your description of P in restaurants cracked me up because our little guy is the same way. He hates being confined and gets so mad and starts grunting and straining to get out, you’d think we were torturing him lol. Dining out isn’t quite as relaxing as it once was lol….

I know one thing. That Salmon with Cole Slaw looks soooooo deli – ici – ooooooooooooooooooooo! (smile) L 🙂 L

I don’t know about those Potato wedges because those are fried. But I’ll take that Salmon and Cole Slaw anyday and smash it up real good.

    Can you say “Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh buddy?!”

    🙂

Oh eating out with children. I have an almost 3 year old and a 1.5 year old, sometimes they are the best little restaurant buddies, other times the hubs and I are basically tagging out who is sitting and eating and who is chasing kiddos.

same! sometimes it’s fun and relaxing, and other times, we’re like “why are we punishing ourselves”

“evacuation plan” –> hahaha love it. because it’s true 🙂 we have done the “pack the food in takeout boxes as soon it arrives” thing.

haha you have to do what you have to do 🙂

I remember being in that stage, thinking I would never enjoy a meal at a restaurant with the kids. I don’t remember when it ended, but now they are ages 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 and are really good at restaurants. I do remember bringing crayons and coloring books and that helping. And people watching. And walking around until the food arrived. But mobile toddlers don’t understand sitting still very well, that’s for sure!

that’s amazing to hear. i feel like once we hit the 3-yr mark with p, a lot will be easier. liv used to color and play with little toys, and p is like NO.

We’re doing a road trip with our move next month and driving up to my family before driving over to Rhode Island, and I’m definitely going to be getting that buckle toy to help with the drive. Jules does okay with restaurants as long as she’s not overly hungry or overly tired. She’s such a small little peanut that I can still wear her sometimes in the lillebaby and get a decent meal in without having to deal with her spazzing out the entire time. And I’m not above putting Moana on my phone and letting her watch it with a french fry hanging out of her mouth if that’s what it takes to eat a meal in peace #momoftheyear

haha you do what you gotta do. and yes, the buckle toy has saved lives

The visual of Miss P poking you in the eyeball & yelling “Outside” is too funny!!! I love to hear about the girls antics!!! Gina (from Mass) *Can’t wait for the post about P-isms…

    • Fitnessista on June 13, 2017 at 11:18 am

i forgot to mention that it was in between giant gulps of the pilot’s bloody mary because i knew i’d have to take her out any second hahaha.
oh man. they’re going to be hilarious. she is a nut

The meal struggle is where I’m at!! The scream for “OUTSIDE” is constant.

    • Fitnessista on June 13, 2017 at 11:18 am

i’m like WHYYYYYYY. and sometimes, it’s so fun and relaxing. other times, it’s pure insanity

  9. Emma on June 13, 2017 at 11:19 pm

I also have two girls and the little one, only 9 months, is already a complete nutcase in comparison to her older sister. She’s just becoming mobile and it’s insane (broke out of her travel crib two nights ago ). Good luck (and maybe a post with tips on dealing with a crazy active baby/toddler?!)

Ha ha it’s so hard to savor those moments in life when it seems so hard but you only get to experience it once ! Have fun meeting the wives! My friend is marrying someone in the coastguard and I’ve already heard what an awesome network of friends it is! I hope you have a great time!

    • Fitnessista on June 15, 2017 at 11:46 am

exactly! i keep telling myself that one day i’ll miss the insanity.
thank you! hope your week is going well, too

That little shop/decor spot looks adorable! I can get lost in places like that – they just feel so kitschy and homey.

I feel like I don’t see fries alongside salmon very often (or coleslaw) and I must say I like the idea! It totally works.

    • Fitnessista on June 15, 2017 at 11:41 am

same! and she moves everything around so each time i see new things!
YES the combo was so good
      hope you’re having a great week 🙂
