A whole new world

Can we just take a moment of silence for these pants?

harem pants2 harem pants

All I need are some of those curly gold shoes, a magic carpet and a ridiculously good-looking- oh wait, nevermind 😉

Instead of the blue tank, I’ll be wearing this:

coin bra

About that.

We had practice for recital during lunch again today and it was a lot of fun trying out the gorgeous costumes:

costumes

I was originally planning to go home for more food after practice (ate an egg-rito,cheesy zucchini bites, a Larabar and an apple in the am) but was hungry before practice, so I stopped by the employee cafe to get a snack.

One of the amazing perks about work is that they have an employee-only restaurant (with healthy, organic and veggie options) and the prices are ridiculous.

Grilled tilapia and veggie chili for less than the cost of a small latte:

tilapia and chili

Amazing.

After work, I stopped by the grocery store to grab oats and almond milk, and also picked up the supplies to make a refreshing snack:

After Bikram a couple of weeks ago, at the desk they had sliced watermelon with fresh lime juice and sea salt. It was the BEST thing I could have had after such a long, sweaty practice.

melons

So this morning, I made some to take to work for everyone to snack on in between teaching.

I’m excited for the day, but even more excited to get home and snuggle Livi.

Hope you have a happy almost-Friday!

xoxo

I think I might actually do the smoothie a day in May! I’ve been rocking it so far:) I might make it smoothie or salad, but either way, I’m going to try hard to get in some extra veggies, fruit and protein!
    Love those pants!

  2. Julia on May 3, 2012 at 11:25 am

    Very sexy!!!
    Ur one hot momma!

  3. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on May 3, 2012 at 11:25 am

You are a rockstar. I wouldn’t want to wear that top in a recital right now and I didn’t even have a baby a few months ago!

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:39 pm

      i’m scared, haha

  4. Krystina (Krystina Yogini) on May 3, 2012 at 11:28 am

I have to try that watermelon! I just polished off the last of what we had last night haha, but I’ll definitely be picking some up and doing that soon. I also want to try a watermelon and feta salad.

  5. Julie on May 3, 2012 at 11:30 am

You look great! Loooove the idea of lime juice and watermelon together- it sounds amazing! I must try this!

  6. Jordana on May 3, 2012 at 11:33 am

Dude, I love that quote! I read it years ago and it’s actually stuck in my brain over the years. So true.

  7. Caitlin @ This Bride's Joyride on May 3, 2012 at 11:33 am

Watermelon and salt sounds strange but at the same time so refreshing! Yum, I can’t wait to have my first watermelon of the season!

  8. Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs on May 3, 2012 at 11:36 am

That s my favorite way to eat watermellon! I started doing that last summer after my workouts, amazing.

  9. Jennifer@knackfornutrition on May 3, 2012 at 11:37 am

mmm watermelon and lime! ive never thought of that combo before. i bet it is delicious!

  10. Laura @ LauraLikesDesign on May 3, 2012 at 11:38 am

I have always loved salt on my watermelon and everyone think it’s crazy! I’ve never tried it with lime but it sounds fantastic…can’t wait to give it a whirl when the watermelons start popping up in the local grocery here.

  11. Hillary on May 3, 2012 at 11:47 am

We’re taking my dad on a winery tour this weekend for his birthday, and I think I’ll need to pack that watermelon as part of our picnic. What an awesome idea.

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:39 pm

the longer it sits, the better it tastes, too! you could make it overnight (minus the salt) chill in the fridge overnight and sprinkle salt on it before eating

Woot woot nice costume!! 🙂 I’m a watermelon addict and am actually off to the grocery store over the lunch hour to buy TWO big ones because they are on sale! Never tried the lime juice and sea salt thing though…. yet! 😉

  13. Colleen on May 3, 2012 at 11:57 am

I LOVE watermelon and lime! I usually add some freshly chopped mint as well. If you put it all in a blender and add some ice, seltzer water (and possibly vodka or gin…) it makes an AMAZING summer cocktail!

  14. Jennifer @ Food for Todd on May 3, 2012 at 12:09 pm

wowow! that watermelon combo sounds delicious! I’ve never heard of that before!

  15. mary on May 3, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Thanks for the watermelon idea! I have one cut up in the frig and this Tajin seasoning (it’s chile powders, lime and salt). It’s good together!
    http://www.amazon.com/Tajin-Fruit-Snack-Seasoning-5-7/dp/B0000GL6RK
I picked up Tajin at Costco.

I’m off to try to find Sun Warrior. My 4lb. Costco protein powder is finally getting low! It probably expired 2 years ago.

Do they serve the tilapia on foil? It sure looks good.

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 3:02 pm

      That sounds amazing!
No they serve on plates but I asked for it to-go since I had to go practice

  16. Annette @ FitnessPerks on May 3, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I need to get on the smoothie a day–yummy!

And that watermelon/lime combo sounds amazing. I LOVE lime!

  17. Sonia the mexigarian on May 3, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Ahhhh! Did know smoothie month was happening. Must get in a smoothie today then, have been the last 2days. Where does one find vanilla goats milk??? Lol. The look on Eric’s face will be priceless if he sees that in the fridge.

love the watermelon combo. I used to get something similar on campus at UCSD. Sliced up fruit sticks like melon and pineapple a mango with lime juice and spicy cayenne sprinkled on top. Heaven in my mouth.

Love you belly dance outfit. I have the hip wrap with the shimmy coins. Love it but scares the heck out of my cats.

  18. Melissa (Better Fit) on May 3, 2012 at 12:32 pm

Haha! Wow that outfit is amazing. I assume that’s for your belly dancing recital?

I’m so jealous of your staff cafe- it sounds amazing!!

You always make your smoothies look so pretty! I love that you put them in glasses with stems or those metal cups, and the glass straw is a great touch. I’m going to have to step up my smoothie presentation 🙂

  22. Patti @ This Starts Tonight on May 3, 2012 at 12:48 pm

Your smoothies are sooooo much prettier than mine. Mostly because I love chocolate protein powder and don’t have a backyard. : p I’m excited for Friday when I can finally eat seeds and small bits & pieces again – right now the only thing I can put in my smoothie is bananas!

  23. lindsay @ prettylittleparadise on May 3, 2012 at 12:51 pm

oh my gosh that costume!!!! I love it- and how awesome is it that you can wear that only 4 months after having a baby!!!!! love it <3

  24. Ashley on May 3, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I love blending watermelon + cucumber together in the summer. So refreshing!

  31. lisag on May 3, 2012 at 1:39 pm

You can easily wear that outfit, cute! Call me wierd but I always put salt and pepper on my melons!! (Cantaloupe, honeydew, or watermelon.) I’ll have to try the lime too.

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:35 pm

      yum!!

  32. Lisa on May 3, 2012 at 1:41 pm

I love the combo of lime and salt together, but actually hate watermelon. I am trying to get down for a smoothie a day in May, but today it is freezing!

Omg those pants are ridiculous!! But I’m sure you are going to rock your costume! Can’t wait to hear how it goes! How awesome that they have a cafe with healthy choices for not a lot of money! I know if it were me, I’d be there almost every day!

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:35 pm

every time i go there, i think “why do i pack a lunch again?”

  35. Kirsten on May 3, 2012 at 4:10 pm

    Awesome jingly bra!
Melon + salt is fab! In Israel I was introduced to watermelon and salty cheese – like feta. It’s the vegetarian version of cantaloupe and prosciutto. Très elegant for summer parties.

  38. Local{ATL}ast on May 3, 2012 at 8:58 pm

LOVE that it’s watermelon season. The only hiccup is that I can’t quite stop at one slice 🙂 I stumbled upon a recipe for grilled watermelon, Bobby Flay maybe? Will perhaps give it a try this summer!

  39. kari on May 3, 2012 at 9:34 pm

That smoothie looks awesome and i will be making that this weekend! I can’t wait when watermelon prices drop.

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:34 pm

they were 2 for $5 here!

  40. AikoVenus on May 3, 2012 at 10:36 pm

The smoothie and outfit look great – I absolutely love yoga and bellydancing. ^^ As for the watermelon – I like to put chili powder with the lime and salt to brighten the flavors!

      you’re speaking my language 🙂

  41. Ginna on May 3, 2012 at 10:47 pm

Gina I just had a baby 2 weeks ago and wondering about sports bras and breast feeding. Sports bras are comfortable for me but I’ve read they can construct and reduce supply. I know your work uniform consists of one do wondering if you’ve noticed any impact on breast feeding?

    • Fitnessista on May 3, 2012 at 11:34 pm

on the days i work, my supply is a little lower :/ i have to wear a built-in bra top with a sports bra over that to teach high energy classes, but when i’m teaching low impact, i just wear a light support sports bra
if your baby is only 2 weeks old and you won’t be working out again for at least a few weeks, try sleeping in a nursing tank with built-in support. i lived in the bravado ones. kept everything in, but not too tight

  42. Becca on May 4, 2012 at 3:54 am

I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to the Sun Warrior protein. I am a nursing mom too and the whey protein powder was causing some serious spit up. Every other kind I tried either gave me horrible gas or tasted like dirt. I hadn’t heard of Sun Warrior but LOVE it, so THANKS!!

  43. Michele on May 4, 2012 at 8:23 am

You are so brave! I had a baby in December, and there is no way that I would put on that top! Stretch marks are not my friend.

  44. Michelle on May 4, 2012 at 8:47 am

My smoothie this morning wasn’t pretty in color, but good! Three big handfuls of spinach, 1 kiwi, 1 banana, a handful of frozen strawberries, some avocado, some flax seeds and a splash of juice. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender.

  45. Chelsa on May 4, 2012 at 1:58 pm
