All-new ab burner

Hi friends! How’s the day going? Hope you’re having a great one so far. <3 Thank you again for your kind and wonderful comments this morning. I’m excited to write back to them tonight!

Today involved some errands, and a quick stop at the mall. True Food had to happen.

Kale aid

(Kale Aid while browsing Victoria’s Secret.)

I got my favorite salad to-go: kale plus salmon. I can make it at home, but it never tastes quite as good as theirs. I need that True Food magic.

Some pics from yesterday’s lunch, because it was legendary.

Tempeh bacon,

Tempeh 1 of 1

with avocado, a sliced (beautiful!) heirloom tomato,

Heirloom 1 of 1 2

kale, mayo, mustard, pickles, salt, pepper and sriracha, wrapped in a brown rice tortilla. Yesssssss.

After assembling, I had to wonder how I could wrap it into burrito form.

Tempeh wrap 1 of 1

Instead, I ate it like a giant, overstuffed soft taco, until things got more manageable and I could burrito-fy it. Thankfully, Liv doesn’t judge me (yet? oh no).

Wrap it up

Later tonight, it’s yogaaaaaa and teacher training! So good.

Even though I’ll be working on my reverse six-pack this summer, I put together a little ab burner for ya. 😉

Gina 15

It’s perfect to add to your cardio routine, or something you could do at home before bed. Let me know if you give it a try! As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes. Modify as needed! Also, be sure to check in with today’s workout here. <3

All new ab burner

All moves are explained thoroughly with the photos, except the beast! For this one, come onto your hands and knees (knees under your hips, hands under your shoulders). Engage your core to lift your knees into a hover off the floor. It burns so good. 😉

What’s your all-time favorite sandwich combo? How often do you work on core strength? I used to neglect it until I realized how much it helped with my posture. Here’s another one of my favorite core workouts.

Hope you have a great night!

xoxo

I just went to the True Food in Denver a few weeks ago and I didn’t want to leave. It was AMAZING. I loved that they had so many vegetarian and vegan options. I had this white cherry tea sparkling soda that was phenomenal and I’ve been craving it ever since! It would go perfectly with that tempeh wrap of yours that I’m also now craving 😉

I definitely neglect my abs but need to hone in on them more to help with running!

  3. Pam on April 9, 2015 at 5:59 pm

I bought the brown rice tortilla wraps and they are very chewy and break apart. How do you prepare them so they wrap and not split?

    • Fitnessista on April 9, 2015 at 9:43 pm

i keep them in the freezer, and when i want one, pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds

True Food Kitchen…I’m dreaming of that quinoa burger now. I wish it was closer to my house or I’d be there now.

  7. Erin on April 9, 2015 at 6:41 pm

My favorite sandwich combo is lettuce wraps with organic turkey, organic goat cheese, and some bbq sauce to dip it into. Yum yum yum!

    • Fitnessista on April 9, 2015 at 9:41 pm

I’ve never been to True Food but I did have a kale based juice today so I feel ya on that one! Love this ab burner, and your comment about the reverse six pack too! 😉 I am a tempeh junkie so if I were to make a really awesome sandwich, it’d be marinated and grilled tempeh, red onion, roasted red bell peppers, lettuce and some hummus to sauce things up. Actually, this one might just have to happen this weekend. 🙂 Congrats again on the baby news, Gina!

    • Fitnessista on April 9, 2015 at 9:40 pm

ahhh i need to add hummus next time!
      thank you, friend <3

I’d love to be doing this ab workout on the beach right now … just sayin’. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 9, 2015 at 9:37 pm

right? i always think it would be fun to work out on the beach, but then i decide to relax on a towel and read instead haha

I neglect my core far too often. Luckily I do things like barre and krav maga that work it anyways, but its always one area where I can improve.

Favorite sandwich is a bacon, gouda and thinly slice tomato grilled cheese. SO GOOD.

How has teacher training been treating you? Are you in love? We live so close now, I am going to have to make a trip down to where you are and we can have a little meet up! <3

Some of my favourite ab moves in there – well, ones I despise but in a good way!

  13. Molly on April 9, 2015 at 10:19 pm

How do you get your brown rice tortillas to stay together? Mine fall right apart

    • Fitnessista on April 9, 2015 at 10:40 pm

i store them in the freezer. when i want one, i heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds

  14. Missy on April 10, 2015 at 3:46 am

    Hi Gina

    What is move #6, “beast”?

  15. erin on April 10, 2015 at 4:18 am

honestly a good old blt with avocado smushed up (they can’t be sliced cuz they just fall out!)

nice ab burner for me this morning!

  16. Meg Bollenback on April 10, 2015 at 5:02 am

I’m a big fan of a BLT, the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato), or the egg BLT as a breakfast sandwich. Tempeh bacon for all of them would be amazing…need to get better about making that at home!

  17. Kandi on April 10, 2015 at 5:08 am

My new favorite thing is an Ezekiel wrap with mashed avocado, turkey slices and spinach. Delicious!!

  18. Emily Miner on April 10, 2015 at 7:43 am

Do you have a favorite brand of brown rice tortillas? Where do you find?

    • Fitnessista on April 10, 2015 at 2:34 pm

i like the trader joe’s brown rice tortillas. just make sure to store them in the freezer

  19. Beverley Cheng on April 10, 2015 at 10:41 am

mmmm tempeh bacon is my favorite! never made it into a wrap before though, that seems like a delicious idea.

  20. Tracy on April 10, 2015 at 10:56 am

Ahh love the beast!! We did that in yoga the other day. Great core move!

    • Fitnessista on April 10, 2015 at 2:30 pm

i love it, too! fun way to switch it up from the plank

  21. Cassie Vaughn on April 10, 2015 at 11:20 am

My favorite sammie of all time is a fried green tomato (or 2), sauteed peppers, bacon if I’m in a really crazy mood and mayo. I’m drooling just thinking about it.

    • Fitnessista on April 10, 2015 at 2:29 pm

      that sounds insanely amazing

  22. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on April 10, 2015 at 12:36 pm

I’ll be giving this workout a try over the weekend.

  23. Lauren R on April 11, 2015 at 7:38 am

Okay I will admit that sometimes I am not 100% sure about your eats and know that my hubby would give me the side eye if I served them for dinner (just ask him about the night I made gina’fied pizza crust)… but this one looks so darn tasty and I am pretty sure I could get him to try it…maybe 🙂

  24. Mo on April 13, 2015 at 9:31 am

  25. Michelle on April 16, 2015 at 6:20 am

Love the ab burner! Definitely need to refocus on my core…baby is 9 months now, time to reveal that six pack again!

  26. Alicia on November 13, 2021 at 4:45 pm

I loved it but I think tomorrow will be painful. My abs are burning.
    I will continue though. Thanks!

  27. Beth on October 7, 2022 at 2:04 pm

Old post, I know. I gave your workout a shot today and thought it would be worth coming back to say you’re not my favorite person right now. With every bend, I think about how this pain was your idea, lol! Thanks for all you do. 🙂
