All things Summer

Hi friends 😀 How are you? Hope you had a lovely Sunday <3

My day was full of what summer dreams are made of…

sleeping in

a noodly yoga class

floating on a raft in the pool while gabbing with a friend

and watermelon fresh from the farmer’s market 😀

watermelon

The Pilot and I shared that entire half, and gave Bella some bites- she loved the sweet treat.

After meandering out of bed this morning, we went to the farmer’s market, where we picked up said melon. It wasn’t too hot outside [yet] so we took Bella with us to see what we could get into 🙂

Per usual, there was an amazing assortment of goodies, beauty care products, jams and jellies, homemade food and organic produce.

+ unique treats

pops

chilies

(chilies roasting!)

Bread that made my heart swoon

bread

lots and lots of baked goodies.

Oh, and eye candy 🙂

Dear me.

What we picked up:
goodies

Coffee cake (the Pilot’s afternoon snack), the watermelon, homemade cashew butter and a gluten-free bar, which I’ll be re-creating this week because it was so amazeballz.

After the market, the Pilot had a flight to get ready for so I went to chill and swim (swim = float on a raft) with my friend Marisa. We caught up on life and hit up a power hour yoga class, which was just what the doctor ordered. I was fortunate to have a certified prenatal instructor today, so she was able to help me with a couple of modifications.

Every time I go to yoga, I tell myself “I should do this everyday!” but realistically, I know it won’t happen. So I tell myself I’ll be making it more of a focus, because when I practice often, it feels ahhhhhmazing.

Off to write this week’s Summer Shape Up workout! See ya in the morning <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What are you trying to do more of right now? Practice yoga? Eat more fruits and veggies? Stop making fun of your sister for crying at the drop of a hat nowadays? (Just kidding, Buddy, I always like your teasing)

I’m trying to spend more time with my beau, as he’s moving away for a year to work on grad school stuff in August!!

Also, on a more personal note, I’m trying to get back into the swing of fitness things after a long weekend break! (easier said than done!)

  2. Jackie @ Baking Charms on June 26, 2011 at 11:00 pm

What a great Sunday! I’m definitely trying to get back into my morning walks with my puppy 🙂

I M trying do more…scratch that….do some yoga! I’m so stressed with school and work. I’m aiming for my first class in an actual studio this Saturday!

I’m trying to relax more. After a crazy year of work, I’m hoping to chill it a bit for the summer. The problem? It would seem I’m not very good at relaxing…

Definitely trying to get more yoga into my life. I love doing weights in the form of body weights, like burpees, pushups, squats, YOGA…. 😀 I love how in love you are with your husband 🙂

Yoga is on my to-do list this month, too! I’m on a mission to fall in love with it… because it hasn’t happened for me yet. Hopefully I just have to keep at it. 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 26, 2011 at 11:10 pm

definitely do! once you find a teacher or studio that clicks for you, you’ll become hooked 🙂

You and Bella look so adorable! Im trying to spend more time with family and encouraging them to live a more simple life and to have peace in their life. well, have a good night!

I’m trying to bike to work more! My new (ish) job is only 4 miles away from home and whenever I bike to work, I feel awesome and ready to tackle the day. It takes a little more planning as I need to bring a bag of things to change into at our small work lockeroom, but it really is worth it.

Arizona looks so beautiful! You seem so happy these days with your little family – the pilot, Bella and the lil one on the way. 🙂

I may have missed this, but I was wondering how you found out that you were sensitive to gluten. I have been getting heartburn recently after eating things like pizza and sandwiches (from the bread?), and I’m wondering if I should go on and see my doc about it…

    Have a great week, Gina!

  13. Dominique @ The Good Life on June 26, 2011 at 11:37 pm

Mmmm, I’m craving a nice juicy slice of watermelon now!

I’m trying to eat more veggies and actually eat breakfast this week. I know I CAN do it, I just have to get my butt in gear and make it happen! 🙂

  14. Jill on June 26, 2011 at 11:37 pm

I am so going to cut a watermelon in half and eat it like it’s some kind of glorious soup bowl. I really just want to get my whole act together and really health-ify my life. I’ve made tons of little changes but I just need to buck up and turn on the will power.

  15. chely on June 26, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Happy Sunday! I, too, am striving to get back on a regular yoga routine. Am hoping to attend the free weekly Lululemon classes to get going. Looking to add more veggies to my meals, too, and hopefully start training for a half marathon in October 🙂

  16. Allison @ Food for Healing on June 26, 2011 at 11:45 pm

i Love fresh watermelon in the summer.
I am trying to be more active (thats why i started insanity) and to drink lots of water, i dont hydrate enough normally, but lately i’ve been drinking a minimum of 32oz a day which is good

  17. Kilee on June 26, 2011 at 11:55 pm

This looks like such a fun day 🙂 I’ve never been to AZ, but it looks beautiful. I am trying to eat less cookies. I got a on gluten-free, vegan cookie baking mission to create a perfect recipe. Let’s just say that I haven’t got it figured out yet and I ate more reject cookies than I would like to admit. Haha! I think I’ll hold off on the baking this week and focus on fresh fruits instead.

    Have a nice, relaxing evening!

  18. Jonathon on June 26, 2011 at 11:56 pm

Yoga should be the #1 thing the doctor prescribes. My bikram class today couldn’t have come at a better time. Excited about the gluten-free bar this week!

  19. Lea on June 27, 2011 at 12:01 am

Do you have any prenatal yoga tips? Is there anything you’re specifically NOT supposed to do? I love my power yoga and the poses I am able to do currently. I am afraid of losing flexibility and strength during my 2nd pregnancy.

  20. Dawn on June 27, 2011 at 12:10 am

I’m trying to get a good balance of cardio and strength training. Originally, I had 45-60 mins of cardio. Then I added three days a week of strength training. And added HIIT – too often. Which then lead to shorter overall cardios. Now I’m trying for HIIT once or twice a week, 45-60 minutes cardio otherwise, and strength training three days a week. And of course, making sure my meals don’t kill all my hard work to shape up my belly and legs!

I am trying to do more label reading! After, I dunno, years of watching fat, carbs, calories, etc, I am being more mindful of sodium & sugar in all its forms (cane juice, corn syrup, refined…). Also, for once I am trying to do MORE online shopping- the summer clothing selection in Germany is pretty scant. haha
ps- u are looking fab in your recent pics- cutest preggo on the block 🙂

  25. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on June 27, 2011 at 4:57 am

I’m trying to nurture my photography, somehow maybe make it part of my professional life path. Not sure, but in the meantime, it’s been amazing spending lots of time with my camera every day and every day, I want to do more of that!

Great for you for just listening to your body and your schedule and doing your yoga when you CAN and not being overly rigid about a schedule b/c that would be so paradoxical and the antithesis of what it’s all about: stressing out about when you’d be practicing yoga.

You look adorable in your outfit too 🙂

  26. Shelley on June 27, 2011 at 6:20 am

I think someone else already said it, but the pilot and you are matchy matchy! I think i remember and old post when you said something about how you guys consult with each other about your outfits first, that is so cute!!

  27. Morgan @ OperationHotMama on June 27, 2011 at 6:26 am

Your Sundays always sound so relaxing and fantastic 🙂 I need to find a farmer’s market by me as yours looks wonderful… goodluck with the random sobbing lol

Your Sunday makes me a little envious ; )

I’m trying to read more for pleasure. I’m an English teacher, so I love reading, but towards the end of the year, I just felt like I didn’t have time to enjoy books anymore! I jumped back in last night and finally finished the book I had been working on for weeks. So far, so good!

  31. rachael on June 27, 2011 at 7:50 am

What a great day! I have to say yoga + farmer’s market + time with husband is a my recipe for a perfect day too!

  32. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on June 27, 2011 at 7:56 am

That looks like such a wonderful Sunday…really fun times 🙂 Can’t wait to see yourduplicate gluten-free goodie this week!
I completely agree with you that yoga makes you feel aahhhmazing, but it isn’t realistic to do it every single day – I really enjoy working out at the gym, hiking, biking and climbing as well, so I try and practice yoga 3 times a week, or sometimes more – and I love it so! 🙂 I’m like you were in Valdosta – deprived of nearby yoga studios – so I have an assortment of amazing DVDs and CDs to practice with. You must LOVE being where there are real live classes and teachers now – and that’s really cool that you got a certified pre-natal instructor today…serendipitous! 🙂 xyx

  33. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on June 27, 2011 at 8:51 am

That does sound like a perfect summer day!

  34. BethT on June 27, 2011 at 8:51 am

If you want a good at-home prenatal yoga class, google Jane Austin – she’s a bigwig prenatal instructor in the SF area, and you can download her video from her web site. It’s a really great class, especially if you have tight or sore hips.

  35. Natalie @ southern fit foodie on June 27, 2011 at 8:54 am

What a perfect Sunday! On Saturday morning, my husband and I went to the farmers market before I went to teach Zumba. I adore going to the farmers market – all the fresh produce, baked goods, flowers and herbs just make me smile!

I’m trying to cook more meals with fresh fruits and veggies. I work several jobs, so sometimes we don’t even start cooking until after 9. I’m like you with the yoga – I adore it, but I don’t do it enough. I found a hot yoga class in my area that I absolutely LOVE, but the only day I can go is Sunday, which is my rest day and the day I get to spend the most time with Daniel. I need to try out some more local yoga classes because I’m sure there is one I would love!

You are adorable and I love the little baby bump!

  36. Jess on June 27, 2011 at 9:05 am

I’ve been trying to go up on my roof and do yoga in the morning a few times a week. It chills me out so much. I’ve also been trying to remember to put on sunscreen first!

  37. Chelsa on June 27, 2011 at 9:17 am

That watermelon looks perfect. I’m the same way about yoga. I used to be very very into it and do it everyday and it was actually my number one fitness activity and now I rarely do it. I’ve only been doing yoga because of the Summer Shape Up. It feels so good but it’s hard to get into the mind set of slowing down.

  38. Andrea @ Onion in My Hair on June 27, 2011 at 9:27 am

I’m trying to figure out ways to drink more tea!

I drink tons of green and black tea in the winter, but it’s harder in the summer. I just need to brew a gallon and make iced tea a few times a week, I suppose, if I want to keep my consumption up.

Green tea is my favorite and healthy way to flush out my system.

  39. Megan @ On The Road Again on June 27, 2011 at 9:40 am

Ooo, those farmer’s market treats look amazing. Which reminds me to find a FM around my town to go to this week! I’ve been dying for some really fresh produce.

What I’ve been wanting to do more (or any) of: try yoga! I’ve always been a die-hard runner, but now that that is getting tough to keep up with, I want to take a few yoga classes to keep in shape.

  40. Shannon on June 27, 2011 at 9:40 am

I’m trying to eat more of my food raw!

  41. Gena on June 27, 2011 at 10:09 am

I’m trying to practice more yoga because I’m in a new city with a ton of “free week” starter deals. It’s fun!

  42. Katie on June 27, 2011 at 10:21 am

I’m trying to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. 🙂 Right now, I’m going through a work out burn-out and don’t want to become too lazy, so going for several walks a day is right up my alley. It not only keeps me in shape, but also clears my head and gets me outside.

  43. Beth (well ill be) on June 27, 2011 at 10:24 am

I think the same thing every time I do yoga! I’m training for a half marathon so I’m trying to get more runs in.

  44. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on June 27, 2011 at 10:51 am

Sounds like the perfect day! I’m trying to lift a little heavier weights 🙂 I bought some Bowflex Selecttech this weekend so we’ll see how that goes. I’m also trying to spend more time outside….our summers up here are so short 🙁

  45. Marissa on June 27, 2011 at 10:55 am

Aww, I’m allergic to watermelon, but I still get jealous whenever I see people eating it! I wish we had a farmers’ market where I live too.

I don’t know what I’m trying to do more of right now… for the past couple days I felt really apathetic. But thank God that horrible feeling seems to have gone away a bit! I’m so ready to be back to my normal, purpose-driven, enthusiastic, optimistic self. I’m much happier this way. 🙂

  46. Kristi on June 27, 2011 at 11:04 am

I’m trying to do pool workouts.. I’m an injured runner and I hate swimming! I did a great interval workout this morning, though, so I want to make this a more regular thing.. Must prevent weight-gain and depression, both of which I am prone to when I’m injured and can’t work out properly… 🙁

  47. Laura on June 27, 2011 at 11:53 am

I need to quit punishing my body. I’ve been eating horribly, not getting enough sleep, and not cross training. Oh, and I got the worlds worst sunburn this weekend. I need to quit taking this machine for granted.

  48. Felicia (Natural + Balanced) on June 27, 2011 at 11:59 am

looking forward to that recipe! summer days are the best days 🙂

  49. Christine @ BookishlyB on June 27, 2011 at 12:23 pm

I’m trying to drink more water and less Diet Coke. A definite struggle!

  50. Laura (Cookies vs. Carrots) on June 27, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I am trying to get more into running. I want to run a 10k this Fall, and definitely have a long way to go until I’m ready. I’m also trying to mix in some yoga here and there too!
