April 28: Meals and Fitness for the Week

Hi friends, how’s your weekend been? Hope it’s been an amazing one for you, too — I’ll post some pics of our fun adventures later today.

Workout-wise, get ready for all new EVERYTHING in just a few weeks! Summer Shape Up begins May 27th, and I can’t wait to kick up my training plan with all of you! From now until then, I’ll be posting my personal tentative schedule so that you can get an idea of how to combine different types of cardio and strength training splits (in addition to the new workouts I create each week). For more help, check out weight training 101, fire up your weights routine and my post on building a workout routine.

Weights

Here’s what my schedule is looking like this week:

-Sunday: Teach Zumba + shoulders, chest, triceps (20 min before class)

-Monday: OFF

-Tuesday: Run day (5 miles with Livi in the jogging stroller)

-Wednesday: Teach Zumba, teach Barre (I count this as legs day)

-Thursday: AQUA ZUMBA TRAINING! I’ll be spending the whole day shaking my booty in the pool… I don’t really love pool classes, but they’re about to get a lot better

-Friday: OFF

-Saturday: Teach World Beat + 20 min back and biceps (if I feel up to it)

Arms

Some meal ideas:

Wedge salad

Prep ahead:

Amazeballs

Steam eggs

Turkey lentil muffins

Berry chia pancakes for Livi

Roast protein (grilled chicken and tempeh bacon again this week; can’t get enough!)

Wash and chop veggies for salads

Salad 1 of 1 3

Dinner ideas:

Pizza with almond meal crust (excited to try this)

Caesar lettuce wraps – making these the night the Pilot will be flying so he doesn’t divorce me over quinoa and tofu 😉

Lemon and garlic roast chicken with roasted maple carrots and balsamic brussels sprouts

Buffalo salmon with wilted spinach and baked potatoes

Chicken dinner

What’s on your meal and fitness plan for the week?? Are you taking any new classes or trying new recipes? Please link away- I’m always looking for new ideas!
See ya later with some pics from the day.

xoxo

Gina

I’m doing Aqua Zumba training on May 11th!! I’m super excited even though I have never been an aqua fitness person. I can’t wait to hear what you think of yours!

The wedge salad does look good!

Here’s a new recipe you might like.. it’s similar to tuna salad, but made with chickpeas! Would make a good lunch, and Livi might like it too…

I make something similar to this. Instead of vegan mayo I use mashed avocado. It is to die for.

The sweet potato in that dinner picture is taunting me! How’d you get it to look so lovely? 🙂

I’m so excited for the Summer Shape Up! I am ready to work a little harder and change it up.

This is on the menu for tonight, along with a roasted chicken for the husband. I have been dying to try this Cranberry Orange Lentil Quinoa Loaf. Sounds pretty delicious.

Fitness plan is to hopefully get my long run in early this week, and this weekend I have my first duathlon! So I probably should get on the bike a couple times this week to prepare ha

  9. Monica on April 28, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Wow your meal ideas sound delicious!

  10. Ashley on April 28, 2013 at 2:18 pm

I am a little ashamed to say that I have never made a whole roasted chicken before. I may give it a try this week. If it is Barefoot Contessa…I am sure it is delicious! All of your meal ideas look awesome!!! Wish me luck!!!

You had me at wedge salad & buffalo salmon!!!

  12. Jenni on April 28, 2013 at 2:52 pm

I avoid gluten as best as possible, and I’m constantly disappointed when meatball/meatloaf recipes call for breadcrumbs or panko, but your turkey lentil muffins have neither! I’m excited to try out the recipe. By the way, I just started my own health and fitness blog, but I’ve been following yours for a while and I love it! You strike a great balance with everything, from food to workouts. I’m a fan!

    • Fitnessista on April 28, 2013 at 7:33 pm

      thank you, jenni!
a great substitution for breadcrumbs is rice cereal in the food processor. works like a charm 🙂

I’ve decided to step everything up a notch to get ready for summer. I’m adding tons more veggies in the hopes of crowding out some of the other crap. I’ve been running like crazy since the weather is so nice and busting my butt during crossfit 🙂

  16. Kristin on April 28, 2013 at 3:29 pm

Thank you so much for always doing these posts! They are so motivating and my favorite!! Your blog is the best! 🙂

  21. Shira on April 28, 2013 at 5:30 pm

I am doing your workout 2 from summer shape up 2012 this week! I tried it yesterday with some elliptical HIIT.. killllller, in the best way possible. I Zumba’d today, and am doing more Zumba and Soca Dance Party (my favvv class of life).. and 1 hot yoga thrown in too. Fun stuff!
Am making mahi mahi and artichokes for din tonight.. this week I plan to make some salmon, some chicken (no recipes yet, wingin it per usual) and my (and my mans) go-to fav “shrimp fra diavolo”..it’s a Giada recipe on the food network website.. so simple and unReal. Shrimp, diced tomatoes, white wine, herbs and LOTS of crushed red pepper.. served on pasta for us but could totally work on rice or spinach (sometimes how I roll) or quinoa or whatever! Yummmmm 🙂
Love the look of your recipes, will go check them out now.
Was thinking of making some of your baked breakfast cookies, but I don’t use/have protein powder, so not sure if they’d turn out.. we’ll see I guess!

  22. Melodie on April 28, 2013 at 5:40 pm

can’t wait for your summer shape up!!!!!!!! i’ve been craving a cold chicken salad that combines, lime, cilantro, shredded chicken, avocado and green onion. did my grocery shopping this afternoon and that recipe will probably be a staple for my lunches this week.

  23. Karissa on April 28, 2013 at 6:27 pm

Ummm, not trying to be creepy here, but damn girl you have great arms!! (Picture of you I think about to do a bicep curl…) Seriously, not actually going for creeper status here, just saying you are a total inspiration! I used to think it was next to impossible for girls to get toned, awesome, STRONG arms without crazy weight routines and I relied almost completely on pushups for an “arms routine” (using that term loosely)- wanted you to know I love your weights workouts and have been using that arm burner lately and seeing crazy progress even just off that.
SOOOO excited for summer shape-up! Hope you are having an awesome weekend, just finished the meal plan for the week and went grocery shopping so it’s prep time!!!
Let us know how the aquatic Zumba goes!! 🙂

    • Karissa on April 28, 2013 at 6:27 pm

P.S. Bought some salmon for dinner this week, and now I’m VERY excited to try that Buffalo salmon recipe, thanks for posting it!

    • Fitnessista on April 28, 2013 at 7:19 pm

wow, thank you so much!! so happy you’re liking the arm burner, too 🙂 i’ll def let you know about aqua zumba!

  24. Katie on April 28, 2013 at 7:25 pm

I am starting a new routine of yoga and meditation in the mornings before work, then a 30 minute power walk in the evenings. 🙂 I’m really big into feeding what my body needs and right now my body needs stretch and relaxation. 🙂

And I have ingredients for morning smoothies to include coconut milk, banana, dandelion, cacao powder, frozen strawberries, and turmeric spice. So tasty!!

    • Fitnessista on April 28, 2013 at 7:32 pm

that sounds like a glorious smoothie!

  25. Meghan @ After the Ivy League on April 28, 2013 at 7:49 pm

I finally had some time this weekend to do some food prep for the week! I made some pasta salad to have with dinners, and taco salad for lunches (chicken, peppers, onions, black beans, yum!). I love feeling ready for the week, and I’m hoping to make it to a new workout class too!

  26. Jules on April 28, 2013 at 9:20 pm

I’m excited about incorporating a run day in this week and every week from here until July 21, because I am running a 5K with my brother and it’s his first!

  27. Rebecca@running.food.baby. on April 28, 2013 at 9:28 pm

Nothing big fitness wise – just trying to go running in between my track and field coaching 😀

For my blog this week I’m going gluten free for a week…ahhh (I’m doing a different new thing every week).

  28. Emily on April 29, 2013 at 7:44 am

I am doing the Ultimate Yogi series right now and walking the dogs a few miles when the weather is sunny. My meal plan is here : http://www.louisianabrideblog.com/2013/04/meal-pinning-monday_29.html

I love all your dinner ideas for this week! Ashley’s Caesar wraps look amazing.

I’m not making a meal or fitness plan for the week since I’m leaving for a road trip on Wednesday. I’m hoping to get in some workouts at the hotel gyms, but if not I’ll try to find some travel workouts on Pinterest!

  30. Elyse on April 29, 2013 at 8:59 pm

Holy smokes you have an AMAZING little bicep 😀 (And by little I mean toned and girly but totally badass ;))

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2013 at 11:01 pm

  31. Ashley on April 30, 2013 at 1:29 am

Hope you like the caesar wraps!! Too funny about the Pilot. 🙂

I’m trying to get better at weekly food prep. What veggies do you wash and chop for the week? How long do they last?
