Around T-town

Hi friends 🙂 Hope you’re having a great morning!

I’m still on my motivated high from the IDEA conference and even though it looked doubtful, I made this week’s longer run happen. My friend Monica set up a training plan for me, and when I saw 5 miles on the agenda for Sunday, I knew there was no way I could do it after the conference. My body needed a rest, but after a day of rest, travel and relaxing, I was ready to run.

Set off on a 5-mile trail run:

Running1

and the best part was that I had a buddy with me:

Running2

The Pilot! Le swoon.

I love running with him, and even when he hasn’t trained in forever, he’s still much faster than me. (He defies nature in many ways.) He helps me maintain a solid pace, which is always slightly faster than what I’d run on my own. I also love that it’s like a mini date and we can chat the entire time.

Running

It was a special treat to get in a morning run with him 🙂 Usually he has to jet to work (punny? lame one, haha), but our MIL is staying with us and could keep an eye on the baby monitor while we went. We got home just as little Livi was waking up and enjoyed breakfast together. After that, we went to the pediatrician for Liv to get her 18-month shots. She was NOT a fan (poor noodle), but we made it up to her with an awesome Blanco lunch and shopping at Mildred and Dildred afterwards.

Blanco 1 of 1

(Capturing the only second we could get her attention away from her guacamole haha)

I’m going 3 days strong of no sugar -even though the margaritas looked soooo tempting- but I had 1400 chips with guacamole and this fish salad:

Blanco 1 of 1 2

Chopped greens, radishes, jicama, cucumber and avocado, topped with an enormous piece of grilled mahi mahi. I used salsa for dressing and it was gloooorious. I’ve been using this week to take care of some catch-up around the house, in addition to showing the Pilot’s madre some fun Tucson things. She’s been here enough times to have seen almost all that Tucson has to offer, and the best part has been watching Livi with her. She loves having another nana around, and the first day she was here, Livi took out ALL of her toys to show her. Like, “Hey, you’re new here, so let me show you the cool stuff.”

Blanco 1 of 1

This morning, it’s time for row/run + some weights and then we’re going to explore the Botanical Gardens. Back to work for this girl tomorrow, too!

See ya later today with part 2 of my IDEA adventures 🙂

xoxo

Gina

Yay glad to see the pilot!! You haven’t mentioned him a while so I was wondering where he’s been haha. I love that practice freely tank!

Congrats on that 5 mile run! I’d love to run with my husband, but unfortunately he has a bad knee and running definitely aggravates it. Such a bummer because it’s always nice to have a running partner.

Love fitness orientated mini dates with my hubs too! The best!

What’s up with not eating sugar?

    • Fitnessista on August 13, 2013 at 11:26 am

I’m still having sugar but not white/refined stuff. I was on a long streak of eating it and feeling crappy so I cut it out until my cravings go away

what kind of sugar are you still having? Only fruit…? I noticed you were even eliminating stuff like maple syrup, so just asking.

        • Fitnessista on August 13, 2013 at 11:55 am

Fruit, starchy veggies, sweet potato, honey and maple syrup. I’m just trying to be mindful or servings for the last two and trying new options. I thought it would be nice to use fruit instead of syrup on my protein pancakes

That salad looks awesome! I love running with my man too!

Yay for the pilot getting to run with you! I love when my husband runs with me… It’s a much better motivator, I rarely stop to walk when he is with me! Granted, I usually only do 2ish miles and he goes on to do 4 or 5, but hey I’m working my way up! 🙂

Tucson looks beautiful…your pictures make me miss it. Congrats on the five mile run, and holy WOW that salad looks AMAAAAZZZZING. Going to Blanco the next time I am in Tucson for SURE. 🙂

I love working out with my boyfriend. It’s very rare when it happens so its nice to have a workout buddy.

I think it’s so great that Liv has such adventurous taste for her age! She’s a cutie <3

I hate it when men are faster than me without trying…Not fair! That salad looks like perfection!

I love working out with my husband! We don’t ever do cardio together (different interests) but we do go to the gym to lift together. We do our own routines (I prefer more functional exercises, compound moves, and supersets whereas he prefers more traditional body building-style weight lifting) but it is nice to walk to and from the gym together and be there at the same time. It does feel like a mini-date!

That’s awesome that your husband will run with you, I can’t get my boyfriend’s running shoes on even if I paid him!

Aww running buddies are the best! Especially when its your husband 🙂 I love when my husband runs with me but the sometimes I love the mental peace that running alone gives me – mixing it up is good!

Tuscon is so pretty! I went a few years ago and loved it. I’m trying to cut down on sugar right now too, just felt kinda sluggish!

Hi Gina! I am pretty new to your site and I am so enjoying all the fabulous tips and exercise ideas. I have around 30 pounds to lose. I eat Paleo and run. I ran the New Orleans Jazz Half Mararthon last October and plan to run again this year! No feeling like it! Even with all the running, I am having such a hard time getting the weight off. I did Jaime Eason 12 week trainer, just to get an idea and learn more about weights. I am so discouraged because I cant seem to find my groove or workouts that work to burn this fat off! I get so confused as to “what to do today?” How much cardio?howlong? HOw many days of weights? How heavy/reps? Please help? P.s. Had blood work done and everything is normal so Im not sure what gives. It just seems like I cant put together something that works. My eating is clean but I am struggling with a workout program schedule to follow!

love the picture of you and Liv! I wish my boyfriend would run with me. Normally he walks behind me as a I jog which I am totally fine with because he normally treats me to breakfast afterwards 🙂

Beautiful pictures! Looks like you had a great run

I love your pictures of the trails in Tucson! Oh man do I miss the desert!

  20. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on August 13, 2013 at 6:26 pm

My husband is also much faster than me and never trains! Not fair. He does help me go faster though!

  21. Laura B on August 17, 2013 at 12:09 am

Did you give up chocolate for your sugar fast too?? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2013 at 12:35 am

That’s a funny joke 😉 um, never haha

  22. Shira on August 17, 2013 at 8:41 am

I’m trying to cut down on sugar too! I have a mad sweet tooth.. but I’ve been feeling the effects and listening to a lot of jillian michaels pod casts at work (haha) and she has inspired me to cut down..
How do you feel about Stevia? I beat the sweet n low demon years ago, and I don’t mind stevia mixed into things (not so much in tea/coffee or whatever), would love to know your take on it.
    That salad looks perfect!
