Back to Reality

Hi guys! How are ya? Happy Indian Food Wednesday 😀 Sorry I’m a little late posting today- I think the blog was angry that I left the Bahamas and crashed on me 😉 All is bueno now, though.

We’re finally back in Valdizzy.

casa

It feels soooooo glorious to be home after the treacherous 24 hours of travel.

This morning, on the drive back from Atlanta, I had Trader Joe’s sushi for bfast

sushi

Mint water

005

and about a thousand wasabi peas.

wasabi

Breakfast of champions, right there. 😀

We passed my favorite peach on a stick

and were home about 4 hours later.

While I’m dreading the boatload of laundry that’s waiting for me, I was so stoked for the packages that were waiting.

Sabrina was so sweet to send me a care package since I sent her some macaroons a couple of weeks ago.

Chocolate + Almond butter (does she know me, or what?)

choc

And the cutest card!

A pair of shorts and a shirt that Thriv sent me to try out:

thriv

(LOVE the fabric- so soft, light and stretchy)

and goodies that I ordered from Amazon:

Goji berries

goji

and my beloved protein.

I’m off to grab a snack and then start to tackle laundry mountain. Insanity is going to happen later tonight 🙂

Have a great night <3

Gina

Thanks again (so much!) to Brittany, Sabrina, Sara and Julie for guest-posting while I was on vacay!

Something to talk about: Who’s your fitness role model? A friend, celebrity, neighbor, yourself?? Someone you look up to while you’re training and doing your fitness thang. For me, mine would have to be runner Kara Goucher. As ya’ll know, I’m not running much these days, but I love the fact that Kara has openly discussed that her mind was the biggest thing holding her back when she first started running, which has often been the case for me. Sometimes our mind can be our greatest obstacle (negative thoughts, stress, “I can’t do this”) and it’s so important to switch those thoughts around and be our own cheerleader. Cute story- it was recently released that she’s expecting 🙂

  2. Jenny on May 19, 2010 at 6:21 pm

How awesome to come home to presents! Makes the whole laundry thing a bit better:) I admire women like Fergie, Jillian Michaels and Jessica Biel because they value strength and not exercising for the purpose of being stick-thin! Seems rare these days!

PS – I’m so glad you had a great vacay!

  3. Kilee on May 19, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I really don’t know who my fitness inspiration is?!? I just try to be the best that I can be and have found that I’m most inspired by others who are reaching for their goals. This sounds so generalized, but I really can’t pinpoint right now. Good luck with the laundry and I know those pups missed you!

  4. sarah on May 19, 2010 at 6:33 pm

    Welcome home!

I have to say, not to be all mushy, that you are one of my fitness inspirations. I found your blog in January and it’s been a constant source of encouragement. So tanks 🙂

      yes, she is amazing 🙂

  7. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on May 19, 2010 at 6:56 pm

Lance Armstrong is a big one for what he overcame, but for everyday fitness it is competitors like Jamie Eason and Lindsay Messina!

    • Fitnessista on May 19, 2010 at 7:09 pm

both of those girls are BEAUTIFUL and seem like down-to-earth cool girls. i think jamie is a breast cancer survivor?? and of course, lance is the man 🙂

  8. Katey on May 19, 2010 at 7:04 pm

some of the group fitness teachers @ the gym!! and of course you bloggy ladies!

  9. Katie @ LifeDiscombobulated on May 19, 2010 at 7:10 pm

Kara Goucher is one of mine, too! I love the fact that she isn’t afraid to put her goals/hopes/dreams out there for everyone to hear and see. That is a truly admirable trait.

  10. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on May 19, 2010 at 7:23 pm

I don’t know that I have one fitness role model, but I find many people in the blogging community to be my role models. They are so many people I find to be inspirational! 🙂

wasabi peas are ADDICTING! they should make those in the 100 cal packs 😉

hmmm fitness role model?!?! I think that the Biggest loser contestants who make it far enough to run the full marathon!! that is just incredible!!

  14. Crystal on May 19, 2010 at 7:46 pm

I have never really thought about having a fitness role model. I definitely admire Gabrielle Anwar, though. She embodies everything I hope to one day be. She is dedicated to her yoga practice and to just to taking care of herself in general.

  15. Lesley on May 19, 2010 at 7:50 pm

Just wanted to say I love how your home is decorated!

I’m glad you made it home safe! Packages are just the BEST to receive. I started to really appreciate them my freshman year in college when my mom would send me them packed with homemade goodies.

  17. CaSaundra on May 19, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Glad you made it back in one piece–thanks for sharing your trip. Looks like you had a definite blast! 🙂

  18. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 19, 2010 at 8:30 pm

It always sucks to come back from holidays, but not when you have fab packages like those waiting for you!! They look awesome! I don’t really have any specific fitness models, but I’m usually really motivated by women that I see in fitness mags that look healthy, fit, and strong. If I did have to choose some though, Tosca Reno and Jamie Eason would definitely be on my list (oh, and Cameron Diaz – that chick’s abs inspire me to work hard!!)

  19. Catherine on May 19, 2010 at 8:38 pm

My fitness role model…hmm. I’m definitely with all the others who said they’re inspired by bloggers like you!

Also- side note- I LOVE goji berries!! Have you tried Goji Gourmet cookies? They are amaaaaaazing!

  20. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on May 19, 2010 at 8:44 pm

Welcome home! And how nice it is to come home to such a clean home! 🙂 My fitness role model would be bloggers like YOU for sure!!

Welcome back to reality! I am sure that coming home to some lovely gifts makes the transition easier.

One of my fitness role models is Jamie Eason. She is so cute and fit. I love it!

My brother is my role model. Every time we work out together he really pushes me!

  24. Ellen on May 19, 2010 at 9:34 pm

Sushi for bfast? NICE. I don’t know if I even have a fitness role model. I workout more than most my friends…which isn’t saying a whole lot!

  25. Kate on May 19, 2010 at 9:54 pm

I love how you decorate! Your home looks so warm and inviting! 🙂 I’d have to say my fitness role models tend to change… but I’ve always loved Jessica Biel and Jennifer Aniston. So healthy and beautiful! Also, right now my personal trainer! He is amazing and makes working out fun again! Anyone who makes health and fitness fun (and not take it too seriously) is my role model! 🙂

  26. Julie @ Pickley Pear on May 19, 2010 at 10:12 pm

  28. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin on May 19, 2010 at 11:37 pm

Oh my gosh, seeing that “Peach on a Stick” just made my day! When I used to live in GA, my mom drove me to that outlet area and this little antique store there made the BEST peach iced tea I’ve ever had! Funny the things we remember, huh?

  29. Lauriel (the frilly foodie) on May 19, 2010 at 11:45 pm

Welcome back! I am lucky to have a ton of fitness role models, including yourself! I love keeping up with other fitness / healthy foodie bloggers as well… Angela @ Oh She Glows, Caitlin @ Healthy Tipping Point, and Meghann @ Inner Workings… to name a few 🙂
Celeb role models include Cameron Diaz, Paula Radcliffe and Michelle Obama 🙂 And my boyfriend’s sister is an awesome real-life inspiration, she does marathons and Olympic Tri’s and is constantly encouraging me in my efforts!

  31. Leah on May 20, 2010 at 12:05 am

I dont know who my role model is. My mom has always been a runner, so maybe thats what got me started, but I think my main motivation comes from other bloggers. I find a lot of support and inspiration from bloggers, its really wonderful.

  32. Lisa on May 20, 2010 at 5:32 am

Hands down…Gabby Reece and Dara Torres!! Awesome athletes, and how great do they look post babies? Welcome home!!

  33. Liza (Eat, Live, Liza) on May 20, 2010 at 8:36 am

    That sushi looks AMAZING!

I don’t think I really have a fitness role model, but I do get very inspired by the health bloggers I follow (You, SnackFace, HealthyTippingPoint).

While I was doing Insanity Plyo today I imagined myself pushing a brick wall farther and farther back and that felt like a major breakthrough moment for me.. I felt like a million bucks afterwards!

Question, have you tried oatmeal with egg whites? Do you cook the egg or do you eat your oatmeal with the egg whites raw? I’m really curious to try it so that I can add an extra protein boost to my morning oats, just not sure how to go about it. 🙂

  34. Lindsay on May 20, 2010 at 8:57 am

Hi! I love your blog and read it daily! I love the pictures and ideas I have gotten from you! I see you got Goji berries from Amazon. I was in NYC last week and I got some from a shoppe on Canal St. I have had them before plain and I liked them but these I got have a wierd after taste. Like I can taste the dye or something?? Do yours do that and other then eating them plain what do you do with them?
    Thanks!

I am so happy the package made it! I was so worried!!!!!

Thanks again for the macaroons. They were seriously amazing and delicious.

Have a great day! LOVE thriv shirts.

  38. Anna on May 20, 2010 at 9:32 am

Hi there! Just a FYI but most asian grocery stores sell goji berries for very cheap. So if you have an asian store in your area stop by there and check it out.

  39. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on May 20, 2010 at 10:21 am

It takes me days to unpack from a trip and even longer to accomplish the laundry. Glad you all had fun and made it home safely! And what fun-filled packages to arrive home too. “Peach on a stick”…..hilarious!! 🙂

I just wanted to thank you for taking time on your HONEYMOON to post here, Gina. I think everyone would have understood if you had not done that. I’m glad you and your pilot had a great trip to such a beautiful place.
I’m still working on the fitness part of my life and look to many of you in the blog world for inspiration. While I’ve been dealing with some upper back issues and two surgeries in the last two years, I have really allowed myself to get out of shape and gain weight and of course menopause hit in the middle of all of that too! I am pleging to change that. So you girls just keep me inspired and I’ll get there.

  41. Shelly on May 20, 2010 at 11:17 am

Ooh- I really want to try out that Thriv stuff! I think they are actually based where I live (New Orleans) and I’m surprised I haven’t heard of them.

I love sushi more than almost anything, but I don’t know how you stomached it for breakfast. My tummy just isn’t ready for fishy tastes at such an early hour! 😀

My fitness role models are all the ladies in the blogging community. I don’t think I’ve ever worked out as hard as I have since I’ve started reading blogs!

  43. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on May 20, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I also really admire Kara!!!!! I loved her recent Runner’s World article. Very real and very inspiring 🙂

I’m typically motivated by people that have obtained incredible academic achievements in their lifetime. I’d say my ‘hero’ is Craig C. Mello who won the Noble in 2006 in medicine. 🙂 I’m a science geek like that 😉

  44. Gena on May 20, 2010 at 12:13 pm

GREAT post! My hip injury has forced me to rest a lot, and it’s wonderful to have some professional insight on that process 🙂

Peach on a stick, peach on a stick!! That’s my neck of the woods in Byron 🙂 How strange to see somewhere I know on a blog!

My role models are some of the lovely ladies in blogland. I have so many that it would be tough to name them all but all of you wonderful ladies inspire me to get up and move and eat right.

  47. Holly on May 20, 2010 at 7:23 pm

Your house is so cute!!! 🙂 Love it.
My fitness role model is Jillian Michaels- & like a lot of people already said- Jessica Biel 🙂

  48. shelly on May 21, 2010 at 7:30 am

The worst part of vacation is the laundry that follows.

I don’t have one specific fitness role model.. however I love the “runner body type”. Runners always seem so lean and strong, that is my goal.
