Bellydance cardio (video)

Last night’s dinner was at Bistro Aix, which was INCREDIBLE. We shared some amazing appetizers (wood-fired pizzas, salads, calamari, salmon), and I chose the ahi tuna for my entree:

They also had the magical wine glasses that kept refilling 😉 

We’re off to check out the warehouse today, and see the fixes being put together!

Today is an exciting day because our new YouTube videos are ready to start launching. Sasha and I had a filming day with Grant a few weeks ago to get some new YT videos for our channel. We asked Grant to do it because he did such an incredible job on our DVD, and let’s be real, my Flip cam and rough editing weren’t doing anyone any favors. 😉 We filmed quite a few new workouts to share, and will be posting one each week from now on. The good news is that in addition to the workouts I post on my blog, you’ll be able to expect at least one workout video (either on my personal channel or our Sage channel) each week. Wahoo! 

We’re starting the party with a bellydance cardio video that Sasha put together. Sasha is kind of a bellydance goddess -when Livi and I went to see her perform, I told her Sasha was a bellydance princess because of her sparkly costume and makeup. Now, whenever Livi sees Sash she says, “Sasha princess!”- and it’s something that I’ve been trying to improve over the years. I remember the days when I used to do the Shimmy workout on FitTV. It was a hot mess and the Pilot and I would be cracking up. I’m lucky that Sasha has been able to teach my some of her moves, and I’ve had a little help from assisting the bellydance class at work.  It’s a lot of fun in addition to being a super challenging core workout.

The beauty of doing choreographed dance cardio routines on YouTube is that you can pause, repeat and practice as much as you’d like.

Feel free to combine this one with our last bellydance video, or any of our barre or ab burners for a short workout. I find that dancing to a single song is enough to elevate my mood and make me feel centered. It’s a great work break 🙂

Something to talk about: Would you like full workout videos for Winter Shape Up? They wouldn’t be DVDs, but I’d upload them to YouTube. Let me know what you think! I’m trying to get everything together before Thanksgiving so I can work on the documents. I’m thinking Winter Shape Up will begin Monday, January 20th. Mark your calendars 😉

    I swear, every time there is a shape up, we’re in the middle of a move (thanks, Navy!). I may be able to do weeks 1 and 2 prior to the big day, or just start a few weeks late. I WILL be doing some either way, and I, for one, would very much appreciate full videos! Can’t wait to try the new belly dance video. 🙂

    I love San Fran, some friends of mine lived there for 10 years before they came back to the C-Bus. We visited but didn’t take advantage of it as often as I should have. If you are looking for a place to indulge try House of Prime Rib. You can guess what they serve there.

    That video was the PERFECT pace to learn the dance to! It started out slow so you got the moves down and then sped up. I really appreciated that I didn’t have to pause once (it definitely is an advantage of videos that you can do that but it’s nice if you don’t have to break the rhythm and can just keep going!).

    You’re right, one song isn’t what I would call a workout for myself but I love to just do odd songs throughout the day to get my body in that moving feeling. That way I WANT to go for my evening workout after work rather than, when I’ve been sitting all day, feeling like I have to DRAG myself there. I really appreciate the free videos, keep ’em coming!

    Well I for one am thrilled you checked out my neighborhood for dinner! Bistro Aix is AMAZING. I hope you guys went to Yogorino for dessert – it’s the best! Enjoy SF! If you’re still in town this evening – Brickyard on Union (in the Marina) is the favorite UA bar to Bear Down and cheer on the Cats with a ton of UA alum!

    For WSU I would watch the videos and they are great, but I always take a phone pic of the how-to visual and bring that to the gym so those are super awesome and useful.

    And I seriously just marked my iCal 😉 I love your shape-up workouts!! I do one or 2 a week from random years/seasons all year long.

    I have no idea how you find time for all of this awesomeness, but I think that videos are a fantastic idea! Especially for the crowd of blog readers that are fairly new to exercise….I think it would help a lot with form cues to see it being done instead of just reading it.

    I love videos for the winter shape up. Videos are so much easier for me than reading all about each move ahead of time and trying to incorporate them into my workout. I think videos are more fun too! Like I’ve got a workout buddy

    I love this!! This video is so much fun and I love belly dancing. I think dance workouts (like zumba and bellydance) make workouts feel more like fun and less like work. Thanks for sharing!

    For the Winter Shape Up will there also be printables for us to take to the gym? I think it would be great to have videos and printables. That way we can familiarize ourselves with the moves via video at home and take the printable with us when we work out. I can’t wait!

    I did the workout last night while we were on a commercial break from a show we were watching. Boy, can you and Sasha move those hips!! I would love to get better at that!! Its seems funny but when you twirl your hands, it seems to help work your hips better? Not sure if that is true! Maybe your hips naturally mimic the motion in your hands or they work well in tandem? I love it when you do video’s with Sasha, keep them coming, You BOTH are fun to watch and fab at teaching! Thank you for your efforts!

    PS. Loved the drum song you guys used in this video.
