Better in the Sun

Hi guys! Happy Humpday (Indian Food Wednesday!) 😀 Who’s getting Indian food tonight?? I CAN’T WAIT until our Indian restaurant re-opens- they’re closed for maintenance.  I miss it so!

I’m so glad ya’ll liked today’s Reader’s Request post– keep sending those requests my way!

This morning, Ashley and I had a crazy core workout at the gym. An elliptical warm-up followed by 45 minutes of abs and back.

I came back to the casa and decided to take my pics by a sunny window, as all of the photography gurus suggest. Usually I’m just lazy and take the pics on the counter so I can eat faster 😉

Egg-stada with 2 egg whites, shrimp, spinach, tomato and raw goat cheddar:

shrimp

And 1/3 cup plain oats with cinnamon:

oats

I think the pics look much better than usual when I take them in the breakfast nook area- even though I don’t have a fancy schmancy camera. (The pilot wanted to buy me one when I got my current camera and I told him no thanks because they’re not pretty and sleek- they’re giant and bulky. *smacks self in the face*)

Macaroon in the sun:

roon

The super-roons could most possibly be the best batch yet.. the cacao, maca and goji combo is amazin’

Maltipoo in the sun:

bell

(I think the stuffed elephant in the background gave away Bella’s political affiliation)

My favorite SUN (warrior) protein came in the mail today!!!!

me

The protein drought is ovahhhhhhhhh.

You know what else is better in the sun?

Me.

Tina’s post this morning really got me thinking about how much I am not a fan of winter. It just makes me feel blah all over… I love walking the puppies, talking beach road trips, running outside, grilling out with the pilot, outside activities. Winter bans us to indoors most of the time because I can’t stand the cold. I grew up in Arizona, and the hotter it is outside, the better 😀 All I can say is I’m SO thankful that spring is right around the corner….

Are you a winter girl, or a summer girl, like me?

Well it’s time for me to train a couple of clients, head to the gym for the second half of pilates, booty shake it in Zumba, then train another client before coming back to make raw malted chocolate tarts.

Have a lovely night <3

G$

  2. Jessica @ How Sweet on January 27, 2010 at 1:59 pm

The macaroons DO look amazing with the berries!

  3. Kilee on January 27, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I am definitely a sun girl. I just moved back to Oregon from Maui and I can assure you that being in the sun is better! I’m off to the gym to do my “summer shape up” workout. Thanks for all the great posts!

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 2:03 pm

      yeahhhh! have a wonderful workout!

  4. Stefania on January 27, 2010 at 2:01 pm

Love warm weather. I could do without the snow and cold.

  5. Carrie on January 27, 2010 at 2:02 pm

I always SAY I like the sun better, but by the end of summer I’m begging for a rainy, cloudy day. I’m a true Seattlite, shun the sun! Not really, I do wish we had a touch more of the sun round these parts. A girl’s gotta get her Vit D!

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 2:04 pm

seriously! and i need to stop looking like a cullen 🙂 i’m getting a little pasty over here 😉

  6. Kalli@fitandfortysomething on January 27, 2010 at 2:04 pm

I am definitely experiencing a winter slump this week……I really like the long days of summer!

  7. Kristin on January 27, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Taking photos in natural light makes a HUGE difference, doesn’t it?

Well, my Maltese plays with a stuffed donkey but Bella is still adorable. Even with her questionable political affiliation. 😉

I’m a winter gal but that’s in Southern California, where winter is like 60 degrees. I definitely would not enjoy winter if it were actually cold!

  8. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on January 27, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Sigh. EVERYTHING’S better in the sun! Spring can’t come quickly enough!

  9. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on January 27, 2010 at 2:18 pm

I’m totally a summer girl. I was looking at the pic from when you were here, and I noticed that not only was I gloriously tan, but I know for a fact my eating habits were the SAME as they are now, yet I’m heavier now than I was then… I think the cloudiness just gets me in a rut.

  10. Shelly on January 27, 2010 at 2:19 pm

Haha Bella’s political persuasion is cracking me up. My fiance refers to his cat as a Rumsfeld-Cheney Republican b/c he believes in preemptive strikes against his enemies (my dogs).

  11. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on January 27, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Totally with you on the summer….I can’t wait!

  12. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather on January 27, 2010 at 2:42 pm

I’m totally a summer girl. I love being in the sun and anytime it’s sunny on my lunch breaks I try to get out and enjoy it.

  13. Kelly Michelle on January 27, 2010 at 2:43 pm

your egg stack looks amazing! I love the sun! I live in Miami and this past month of “winter” was killing me. It hit below 55 and I was like yea not going outside

  14. Betty on January 27, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Summer girl. I used to love Winter but now it’s all about Summer. The clothes, activities are just so much better.

  15. Matguerite on January 27, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I’m definitely a summer kind of girl! I’m not always thrilled with the heat and humidity in Florida, but I so hate the cold! The heat fatigues me pretty quickly, but the cold makes me a miserable witch!

Those raw malted chocolate tarts sound awesome!

  16. susan (stepping off the coaster) on January 27, 2010 at 2:57 pm

i’m putting my plug in for SPRING/FALL (i dont like extreme warm or cold)… there’s nothing like a gorgeous green spring or colorful fall in portland!

but speaking of portland… i’m having major photo issues b/c i love natural light photos, but with the grey portland days of winter, it just hasn’t been possible!! and then to top that off… the lights in my retro kitchen are not providing enough light to not use the flash.
OBVIOUSLY a kitchen remodel is necessary ASAP, just so i can take good blog photos!! sheesh!!!

  17. Samantha on January 27, 2010 at 2:58 pm

I admit that I like the sun, but I would much rather be cold than hot. I think it is so much harder to cool off than to warm up. But I am ready for spring too!

  18. Susan on January 27, 2010 at 3:01 pm

Hey Gina, Yep not a mad fan of the winter either, it’s cold here and soo dark in the morning time when I go to work. Yum raw malted chocolate tarts sound delish!! Hope you get to eat an Indian meal later on, love Indian food, I think I was in heaven when I was out in India and got to taste the most delicious food ever. I’m on a roll after the healthy cookery course yesterday in the Happy Pear and I got a juicer similar to yours and going to get juicing! Have a great day.

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 3:37 pm

      yesss! happy juicing 😀
i’m a little jealous that you’ve had indian food in INDIA. amazing

  19. Gillian on January 27, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Living in Canada there are TONS of ways to stay active in the winter. Growing up we were constantly tobogganing, skating, or skiing/snowboarding, building snow forts. Now that I am older and obviously don’t have time to do those things as much as I used to (not that I would still build a snow fort, but the other options all still apply) It feels great to get out and do them still. They make the winter FAR more bareable instead of just wishing for Spring all the time. You just gotta make the best of it is all!

  20. Ashley on January 27, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I’m definitely a sun girl. We’ve been having crazy rain storms in San Diego for the last week and I haven’t known what to do with myself, I’ve never even owned an umbrella!

  21. Holly on January 27, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Summer girl for sure! I love me some SUN!!!

Now, which soap are you watching while shoing off that protein powder? I didn’t think you were a soap watching kinda gal! Gotta have my Y&R fix everyday!

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 3:37 pm

hahah i put the tv on abc in the mornings for good morning america, regis and kelly and the doctors– i leave it on abc the rest of the day.
i don’t usually watch the soaps but catch bits and pieces.. it’s easy to see how you can get sucked in 🙂

      • brittney on January 27, 2010 at 6:15 pm

I work for CBS, but won’t hold that one against you. 😉

        • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 7:46 pm

          lol, sorry haha.

  22. Jenna on January 27, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Summer all the way because of the sunny and warm weather!!

  23. Karyn on January 27, 2010 at 3:14 pm

i am not a fan of winter either! i question why i’m still in new england every day haha

  24. Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) on January 27, 2010 at 3:26 pm

I need to get some of that protein powder! I haven’t tried it and I am looking for a dairy free/soy free option. I am such a summer girl! I really need some warm sunshine! Have fun working out!

  25. Marshall on January 27, 2010 at 3:27 pm

I’m a winter girl! I grew up in Chicago so I’m used to the cold and grew to love it. I’ll never adjust to this down south weather! Don’t forget to record Zumba tonight!

  26. Paige (Running Around Normal) on January 27, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Haha – love the elephant squeaker toy for Bella. Yeah Bella!
Those macaroons sure do sound fab!

I’m totally a summer girl. Unfortunately living in Illinois means long, cold winters. Hopefully the husband and I will soon be living in San Diego, though 😀

  27. Jenny @ nutmegger on January 27, 2010 at 3:45 pm

I would be SAD if I didn’t have all of the seasons. They each deserve their time in the “sun”..so to speak 😉

  28. Ana on January 27, 2010 at 3:46 pm

My aunt died from eating raw milk products, such as raw cheeses, milk and so on. Be careful..

    • Shelly on January 27, 2010 at 5:11 pm

      Oh no! What happened?

      • Ana on January 27, 2010 at 8:23 pm

The bacteria. It’s very rare, but I will never eat raw milk products in my life. It’s not worth it.

        • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 8:43 pm

yeah, i totally understand your concern. i’m just glad that all raw milk products are aged a minimum of 60 days.

  29. Veronica on January 27, 2010 at 4:12 pm

    Another summer girl here!

  30. Mama Pea on January 27, 2010 at 4:15 pm

I notice that if I find a sunny spot in the house for a few minutes each day (usually the cat has already found it for me, it instantly perks up my mood. There is a lot to be said for getting that Vitamin D the old fashioned way!

  31. Brittany on January 27, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I feel ya on the weather stuff! Last month I spent a week in Nebraska visiting my fiance’s family. With the high temp being 0 degrees, I was sooooo happy to get back to Phoenix!

  32. Liz on January 27, 2010 at 4:34 pm

I totally have that purple tank from target! It’s super nice 🙂

  33. Katie on January 27, 2010 at 4:43 pm

Hi Gina! How do you make those lovely egg puffs!! they look so yummy!

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 7:49 pm

i just microwave them in a glass bowl sprayed with olive oil- super easy!

      • Katie on January 28, 2010 at 5:40 pm

        Great thanks!!!

  34. Anne @ the doctor takes a wife on January 27, 2010 at 4:46 pm

OH my goodness, hubby makes the BEST Indian food. I really need to get him to guest post on it. Enjoy your yummy dinner 🙂

  35. Lindsay on January 27, 2010 at 4:50 pm

I’m a summer girl for sure! I also grew up in Arizona, so these cold winters are a very hard adjustment 🙁 Spring can’t come soon enough in my opinion!

  36. Olga @ Healthing It on January 27, 2010 at 5:05 pm

I am absolutely a summer person…sun just makes me feel happier! I can’t wait until it’s spring and I can actually run outside!

  37. Liz @ intheskinny on January 27, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I’m such a summer person! I want the heat badly!!!

  38. Emily J on January 27, 2010 at 5:12 pm

I’m a total seasons girl- I get really excited for whatever season’s about to come up. Right now I’m excited for daffodils and warm days, but as soon as we’ve had about a month of that I want 90 degree weather and beachhh!!
And I must say… I approve of the elephant. 🙂

  39. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on January 27, 2010 at 5:24 pm

    • Fitnessista on January 27, 2010 at 7:47 pm

      cuddle 😉

Thanks for your post this morning about your pantry staples, i had no idea how cool spirulina is!!! If i wasn’t a poor college student (the most expensive i can do is buying my fruit/veg organic, which i guess is pretty decent) i would go out and get some. Definitely loved how much i learned from that post though!
