Bo is back?

I am a bit of a cranky pants today.

tea

Two nights ago, I hardly slept at all, and last night, I woke up twice and then again when the Pilot woke up. He always gets up an hour before me (5:45 and I’ll get up around 6:45), so usually I sleep until he leaves for work. I guess it’s good practice for later, but lack of sleep = cranky pants. I have no idea how I survived on 4-5 hours max in college. Oh yeah, lots and lots of Red Bull and coffee….

Since sleep wasn’t happening,

I came downstairs,

lit my favorite candles

candle

[our entire house smells like Christmas already]

ate a couple of Udi’s cookies from the freezer (if you haven’t tried these, they’re AWESOME. Like Chewy Chips Ahoy)

drank tea

and caught up on blogs.

Here are some of my favorite posts I read this morning:

1) Maria’s birth story. It’s crazy because she’s stationed in Fayetteville, NC, where we were first stationed- I love reading her blog

2) How to use up your canned pumpkin

3) Raw cocoa crackers

4) Thoughts from Tuesday (it’s my favorite Snack-friend’s birthday today, too!)

5) Five for Friday (mostly because if I still lived in Orlando, I’d ask Katy to braid my hair)

Since the cookies put me in a chocolaty mood, I made some oats for bfast, with Sun Warrior added in and thinned out with dark chocolate almond milk

oats

Anyone else a little cranky today? What are you looking forward to in order to get out of the funk? I know that some workout endorphins are just what I need. I have a feeling I’ll feel less like a zombie after a get a workout in and start the Friday errand-stravaganza <3

On the agenda for the weekend:

-Mail out thank-you notes and packages to friends

-Finish the master bedroom and nursery [will post some pics when they’re finished!]

-Start working on the disaster that is our office

I’m off to a doc appt, but I’ll be back later with a Family post.

Enjoy your Friday, friends!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Did you hear that Tae Bo is coming back? I had no idea, and then the Pilot and I were talking about it last night. Billy Blanks has a new system he developed using resistance bands, in addition to the usual martial arts/kickboxing combo. The infomercials for Tae Bo were super cheesy, but the workouts are pretty amazing –I remember doing them with my mom when I was in 5th grade- and he was one of the pioneers for fusion-style workouts. Would you try the new PT24 program? Who used to rock out the Tae Bo workouts in their living room?

I just heard he was coming out with new stuff! Definitely did tae-bo in the basement with friends in junior high! Too funny!

  2. Kilee on November 18, 2011 at 11:15 am

Sorry about your cranky pants mood. I get it at least once a month….. Workouts, calling one of my girl friends or having a little dark chocolate usually do the trick. In high school, my girlfriends and I used to do tae bo at slumber parties. We ended up laughing and digging into the ice cream right after 🙂
    Have a great day today!

  3. Tara on November 18, 2011 at 11:16 am

I might give the new Tae Bo a try, it was a good mix to add a little spice to a stale workout routine. I used to do it in the basement with my sister all the time! I’m pretty sure I have a dusty old VHS somewhere!

  4. Ali @ Peaches and Football on November 18, 2011 at 11:16 am

I had a couple of Billy Blanks Tae Bo DVDs but could only watch them once or twice because after that, you’re SICK of hearing about so-and-so woman and how she had a baby and look at her abs now. Sometimes I wish they’d just stick to the routine and minimize the extra chatter.

I’ll be interested to see what people think of his new stuff though. Love DVDs for the winter when it’s wayyyy too cold to be outside!

  5. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 18, 2011 at 11:17 am

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling so chipper today Gina! I hope your mood comes around a bit soon. I wouldn’t say I’m in a funk, but just really wanting the weekend to come! I’m looking forward to finishing work today so I can go out and buy some replacement running shoes.. my current Asics are WELL past their prime!

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2011 at 11:17 am

i need new asics too! maybe some retail therapy?? 😉

  6. Stacey on November 18, 2011 at 11:19 am

I am also cranky today… this time last week I was at a swim up bar in the Bahamas… 🙁 I slept poorly as well and then I got up to do 55EZ TurboFire dvd and the choreography was too much for me so instead a I cried a tear or two and crawled back into bed. Ha awwwe… I hope it gets easier. I don’t flailing uncoordinated for 30 minutes but 55 was just too intimidating today.

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2011 at 11:20 am

the 55 one is the most challenging! did you do the “new to class” version? that helped me pick it up. you’ll get it!

      • Stacey on November 18, 2011 at 11:23 am

I thought because it was called EZ, it would be easy….glad to hear its the hardest, I have def improved on the shorter ones tho – I will try again! 🙂

  7. Annie D @ Annie's Simple Life on November 18, 2011 at 11:21 am

    I AM A TOTAL CRANKYPANTS TOOO!!!!! I couldn’t sleep either!! I’m fighting a cold. It’s FFRRRREEEZING outside…. gggaaaahhhh.

This week has been a BEAR. But, I’m SOOOOOO excited about those cookies!!! I so need to try them. God bless Udi’s.

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2011 at 11:23 am

      udi’s is life-changing
hope you have a better day, too! and fight that cold! 🙂

  8. Maria on November 18, 2011 at 11:26 am

Sorry you’re having a crabby pants type of day. I was going through that last week. Generally working out and getting some quality “me” time in helps. As does retail therapy. No one should have to be subjected to my crabbiness :-/ I used to do tai bo all the time! I’ll have to check out the new program. But I should probably get through all of my insanity & turbo fire DVDs before I purchase anything else!

  9. Mindy on November 18, 2011 at 11:27 am

I will definitely try the new program. I love Tae-bo, and I still believe that is the best workout!

  10. Mindy on November 18, 2011 at 11:28 am

And yes, I’m feeling cranky today- That’s the first thing I warned my boyfriend about this morning 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2011 at 11:29 am

hahaha i did the same! i said “i’m so tired…. and so cranky…..”

  11. Jackie @ That Deep Breath on November 18, 2011 at 11:29 am

Hope your day gets better!! Cookies always help 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2011 at 11:29 am

      they totally do 🙂

  12. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on November 18, 2011 at 11:31 am

Lack of sleep does exactly the same thing to me too – not so fun, but working out and getting those lovely endorphins absolutely helps energise and uplift me every time 🙂 <3 It's like a gift to your tired self. And I love getting up when I can't sleep and relax while reading blogs, it's so much fun and soothing and pleasant…love the addition of the candle thogh, that would make it even more peaceful.
I totally used to rock out to those Tae Bo videos, they are INTENSE!!! I remember them vividly, and I remember the DOMS, too, lol! 😛 xyx
Happy Friday – have a lovely one!

  13. Carrie on November 18, 2011 at 11:32 am

I can’t believe the little amount of sleep I got in college. It’s no wonder I packed on 20 pounds and suffered a sinus infection twice a semester. Yeesh.

I remember doing Tae Bo in our living room. My dad would tease me for working out with a guy wearing a too-small unitard cut around his pecks, lol.

  14. Elyse on November 18, 2011 at 11:33 am

Billy Blanks teaches at the gym that is 1/2 mile from my house. I want to take one of his classes but just haven’t had the time lately!!!!

  15. Laury @ thefitnessdish on November 18, 2011 at 11:39 am

Yea my daughter SHOULD be sleeping through the night at this point but she has me up at 1:30 and 4:30 then 7am so I have been a little cranky lately. I NEED my sleep! Trying not to let it get to me. Napping when I can and power yoga has really helped my mood though!

Hope you have a less cranky day!

We did Billy Blanks RELIGIOUSLY in high school. A friend and I were always leading the class in gym, so fun! They are cheesy but I remember being an awesome workout! Isn’t his son a big fitness guru now or something? I’d try it if someone let me borrow it. Though there’s not much room in my living room!

  16. Heather on November 18, 2011 at 11:44 am

Two words: Breaking Dawn. Funk begone! Lol…hope you feel better!

    • jen on November 18, 2011 at 11:51 am

same here can’t wait going to the 9:30pm show so my friend can get some errands done 1st!

  17. mary @ what's cookin with mary on November 18, 2011 at 11:47 am

Speaking of cranky… I’m sitting next to B in our shared office and he’s on his first con call of the day… There’s a SUPER cranky, rude guy on the phone totally beating him up. Great way to start a day right? :l Poor B.

I’ve been having sleep issues recently… when I have them, it’s normally that I can’t fall asleep, but recently it’s been waking up at 5-6 am and not being able to fall back asleep. Grrrr. So I come downstairs and light my pumpkin spice ‘fall’ candle and read. It’s definitely been a great way to get through the stack of books I’ve been trying to get through. Almost *finally?!* done with The Help. SO GOOD.

  18. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on November 18, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Aw I hope you can get better sleep soon! If you cant sleep though a relaxing candle and blog reading sounds like the way to go!

  19. Mandy on November 18, 2011 at 12:06 pm

Baby won’t let you get 5 a night…. better stack up on some sleep!

  20. Cat @Breakfast to Bed on November 18, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Since the P90X guy makes me want to rip out the ovaries of anyone in shouting distance from him to prevent him from breeding and populating the world with more, really annoying people, I am SO down for a one mister Billy Blanks to rock the fitness world back into a cheesy infomercial delirium.

    Like my run-on?

  21. RunEatRepeat on November 18, 2011 at 12:15 pm

I have been a super B all week! Seriously, I’ve never PMSed like this in my life, but it’s bad.

  22. LisaG on November 18, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Must be something in the air, because I was up from 2-3:30 this morning doing laundry, so now I’m tired too! Maybe go for a walk later. Are you going to see a certain movie this weekend?

  23. Moni'sMeals on November 18, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Feel better. 🙁 I too got up and way too early too.

Never did Tae Bo, mixed feelings, we will see!

  24. Janine @ThePurpleGiraffe on November 18, 2011 at 12:24 pm

I wish my house smelled like Christmas. Instead it smells like dead animal. So yes, I’m in a funk today too 🙁

  25. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on November 18, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I had a rough night last night too. I was up a lot blowing my nose, and I’m not even sick! I’m in the same cranky boat too. I even broke down crying this morning when I was feeling super fat. Not a good start to the day. Unfortunately I can’t get in a work out until I get home from work (maybe 7pm?).

  26. Allison on November 18, 2011 at 12:32 pm

Thank you for the motivation to get off my arse and get going! I was avoiding working out…pushing it til later in the day…but decided to come over to your hood and see if that would get me going. Apparently it worked…ok….off to work it out.

P.S. Those cookies sound amazing and I can’t wait to try those pumpkin recipes from the link! Thanks 🙂

  27. Hillary on November 18, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Tae Bo was the first real workout I ever did (besides walking, etc). LOVED it!

  28. Amy@healthyhungryhappy.com on November 18, 2011 at 12:39 pm

tae bo is back? awesome im sure its hard i would definitely try it!

  29. Laura @ http://sheeatswell.blogspot.com/ on November 18, 2011 at 12:43 pm

I once saw Billy in Hawaii at breakfast. It was so random, but it was when he was really really well known and popular!

As for getting out of a funk, exercising is my #1 way to do so. Endorphins are really, really amazing.

  30. Jaclyn on November 18, 2011 at 12:48 pm

What is that candle scent?? As I am in France right now, I am not “with the times” on these things (new holiday candle scents), we don’t even have Turkey day next week here, obvs… but I love following along with you!

OMG those udis cookies are SO GOOD frozen – I thought I was the only one.. . def a fan!!

also… being let out of class at 610 on a friday night, instead of the promised, set time of 550, was not, NOT good for my “cranky pants” mood, ha! But now I’m sitting at a lil french bistro sipping wine, munching peanuts and catching up on blogs/email/work, so all is good for me, too 🙂

    Happy Fri night G!!!

  31. Desi@ThePalatePeacemaker on November 18, 2011 at 12:56 pm

Cranky pants always strikes when least expected! At least it does for me… Most of the time when I’m a cranky pants, I have NO idea why! I like to go for long walks and listen to music when I’m feeling that way. Considering the time of year, I’d definitely be lighting the Christmas candles and playing some carols. That ALWAYS makes me feel better. 🙂

  32. Ali on November 18, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Aww, I totally get cranky when I don’t sleep, and I am as such at this moment too! I am just looking forward to tomorrow being the weekend. That is really all that is going to get me through today I think! I would TOTALLY rock to new BO! I will try any work out once!!

  33. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on November 18, 2011 at 1:34 pm

Fridays are my late days at work so usually I am a little less-than-stellar to be going in. Waking up an hour late and scrambling to get out did wonders for my mood too, lol. I have an Sbucks giftcard waiting to be used on the walk home, though, so I’m feeling pretty good!

  34. Mallory on November 18, 2011 at 1:44 pm

It must be a cranky day b/c I’m super cranky but with good reason – the offer on my dream house got rejected today 🙁 Looks like I’ll be renting for a while longer! I’m going to the gym right after work to sweat out my frustrations! It always makes me feel better when I’m super cranky!

  35. Jamie @ FoodinRealLife on November 18, 2011 at 1:56 pm

I love Tae Bo! I actually have been doing the beginner video during pregnancy because it’s only 25 minutes and a good burn. It’s older and his blue spandex unitard is a tad distracting, but I still like it! I’d def check out the new system.

  36. Heather on November 18, 2011 at 2:46 pm

I used to be a Tae Bo girl but I’ve moved on. I now spend my nights with Shaun T doing Insanity. I spend 40 minutes sweating and cursing him like no other. It’s a love/hate relationship 🙂

  37. Alicia @beingLA on November 18, 2011 at 3:25 pm

I love Tae Bo and I would definitely try out Billy’s new workout! My sister’s doing the BeachBody Brazilian Butt Workout right now and I’m not sure what I think about it yet. They definitely need to step up the music because it’s outdated and not in the least bit motivating!

  38. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on November 18, 2011 at 3:32 pm

The end of pregnancy and the lack of sleep…nature plays such a cruel trick on expectant moms with the sleep. I think it’s pretty universal that the closer you get to the end, the harder it is to get decent rest.

Hope you get some this weekend!

And Tae Bo…lol. Blast from the past…havent thought of that in years!

  39. Sandy on November 18, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Me and my girldfriends back in college found a Billy Blanks tae bo vhs tape at a garage sale for a dollar! We did that workout in our living room all the time! It was so fun and hard!

  40. Julie on November 18, 2011 at 3:36 pm

I’m dragging these past few days too. I need my sleep!

Also I have that same mug- it was a gift from one of my students so it’s very special!

  41. jodie on November 18, 2011 at 3:39 pm

I used toTaebo all the the time, still do it when I want an easy workout. I have been cranky all day as well. 🙁
I need to run, get my endorphins flowing.

  42. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on November 18, 2011 at 3:53 pm

Aww Gina, you are the bestest.
Oh, and I saw your tweets today and totally thought for a second that you’d had the baby!

I love Billy Blanks. (Hated the blue jumpsuits, though!) We always did Tae Bo in middle school P.E. when it rained and we couldn’t run outside.

P.S. Those oats look good… I am always in a chocolate mood. 🙂

I still have those workouts…on VHS…which I don’t have anymore. Guess I should get rid of those tapes! I enjoyed the workouts, even though I’m not the most coordinated person. Double-time? Not happening!

  47. Ryan @ Aloha Appetite on November 18, 2011 at 10:02 pm

Oh yes. There must be some cranky winds floating around. 😉 I’m pretty sure my hubs is running to the store to get some chocolate to pacify my mood. Ha!

  48. Christin@purplebirdblog on November 18, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Those Udi’s cookies are seriously the best, and I eat them straight from the freezer too!

  49. Marguerite Miller on November 18, 2011 at 10:36 pm

Definitely a little cranky here today! I’m in the hospital and having a procedure today so I haven’t been able to eat or drink since midnight! And they didn’t take me down for it until about 1:00 PM! Then changed the procedure I was having…without telling me!! Cranky didn’t cover it at the time, but once it was done and over, I understood this was a better option and Was fine with it! (And my mom was waiting in my room with a chocolate croissant)! So no one got yelled at! (except for a little while in my head)!!!

    Hi Gina,
I have really been enjoying your blog lately and it seems like you are putting a lot of effort into good content. Love it!

I do have a quick question about your use of “[” instead of parenthesis. Is this a stylistic thing? I’m always curious why you do it like that. They don’t mean the same thing! Just a pet peeve!
