Busybody

Like many of you, I’m a little bit of a busybody. I always like to be doing something, and when I get some down time, I’ll likely spend it multi-tasking. At our work meeting yesterday, our boss said that it’s why we’re fitness instructors- we have a crazy thing with our brain that won’t let us sit still.

after work

So last night, after I put Liv to sleep, I usually would have set into my nighttime frenzy: making dinner, writing blog posts and/or heading to the gym to take workout pics, writing back to emails (I’m still behind- if you’ve emailed me in the past 3 weeks I promise to get back to you by the end of the weekend) and getting things ready for the next day.

Instead, I napped with the Pilot on the couch,

we ate shrimp curry with rice and watched Bad Teacher,

curry and rice

and went to bed.

It.was.awesome.

I felt rested when my little sidekick started the day at 5:45 am 🙂

Breakfast:

cereal egg coffee

Half-caf with coconut creamer, 2 over hard eggs and brown rice crispies with berries

I could eat the entire box and still be hungry, but love brown rice crispies- with eggs it makes a bowl a lot more satisfying.

cereal2

What are you up to this weekend? Any fun fitness plans? Marisa is coming over tonight –we’re going to have vino, play Dance Central and make dinner- I work tomorrow, we’re having a date night (!) and finally getting the Pilot’s new car. Big purchases freak me out, but it needs to happen :/

Hope you have a happy Friday! See ya later on the Fashion Page.

xoxo

Something to do: How ‘bout a leg burner?

image

Wherever you are (bonus points for at work), bust out:

-15 split squats on each leg

-15 squats

-15 pulsing squats

-15 squat jumps

-15 lateral lunges on each side

Repeat 2 more times if you’re feeling feisty 😉

*As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and your injuries.

How was Bad Teacher ? I wanted to see it because I have a huge crush on Jason Segel, hehe :-X

    • Lauren on May 18, 2012 at 12:08 pm

Bad Teacher is pretty good! Kinda crude at times, but still funny!

      • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 12:09 pm

i thought it was hilarious 🙂

        • Jessica on May 18, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I thought it was awful and wonderful at the same time. Justin did some seriously bad acting, though.

          • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 2:47 pm

omg yes. he’s nice to look at, though 😉

I love that booty burner idea! Split squats are so amazing–they just burn and feel ohhhh so good 😉

I can also agree to the fact that we as fitness instructors MUST be moving at all times…it’s how we were born. Hah. So I am glad I am not the only crazy out there!

    Have a good weekend!!

  3. Pinky on May 18, 2012 at 11:25 am

I’m buying my FIRST car today and it scares the pants off me!!!!
(maybe I’ll get a discount for going pantsless hahahaha)

Good for you for relaxing! Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 11:26 am

      haha i’m sure you will!
      happy first car!

Awesome leg burner! Split squats are sooo killer – I did them for the first time as part of your Winter Shape Up and they definitely left me shaking and quaking 🙂 Can’t wait to try this set out!

  5. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on May 18, 2012 at 11:41 am

I’m definitely a busy body! But it IS so nice to take a night off and just relax!

My fun fitness plan this weekend is running and brunching with some ladies from my running group! Yay for my taper week… my first half is next weekend!

  6. Danielle on May 18, 2012 at 11:55 am

I’m a fitness instructor too and I totally agree….I can never sit still!!!!! It’s great that you were able to unplug last night though, you most certainly deserved it! Have a great Friday!

  7. Sarah on May 18, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Sometimes a little “veggin’ out” is just what you need! That curry looks so delicious.

  8. Lauren on May 18, 2012 at 12:07 pm

Hi Gina, I’m just wondering how you became a fitness instructor? Is it the same process as becoming a trainer? Thanks for any info!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 12:09 pm

i got my certification through afaa and started teaching at the base gym shortly thereafter. it’s not very challenging to get certified- i would just call gyms you’d like to teach at to see which certifications they accept and if they’re hiring

  9. Kristen on May 18, 2012 at 12:30 pm

I got a hip fracture giving birth a couple of months ago and I have been DYING to work out. Today, the doc gave me the okay. This leg workout is screaming my name (and I’ll just be screaming while I’m doing it since its been a while). But I say BRING IT BABY!

Sounds like you have a nice weekend ahead. Hope you enjoy it 🙂

Big purchases scare me too. I was a totals mess when we bought the house and just last week when we bought our new couch (been using college idea couch and futon for the past 8 years). Eric turned to me, seeing me any as we signed the couch documents and said, “if we can buy a house, we can buy a couch to fill it” me: eeeeeeeep. Good luck with the new purchase! Would love to know what you get. 🙂

I too started my day at 5:45. I was at the gym for a 6am spin class. Little did I know it would be my least favorite instructor. I left a little early and went to school. Now I’m almost done with school and my cousin is coming for the weekend. Can’t wait to hang out in Boston with her tomorrow. A stop into cheers might happen!

  12. updog on May 18, 2012 at 12:59 pm

It feels so good to take a break from running around sometimes, doesn’t it? Because I don’t work until 3 today, I slept in until 8 am this morning and ate a leisurely breakfast instead of the normal routine of sprinting out of bed to get where ever it is I need to be.
This weekend’s fitness plans include kayaking, swimming, some trail running with my cousin who is training for his first-ever 5k in June (so proud of him!), and weight lifting on Sunday. I’m doing a 12-mile Tough Mudder in a month, so I try to pack my free days with a bunch of fun outdoor activities in preparation.

  13. Averie @ Averie Cooks on May 18, 2012 at 1:02 pm

I am so happy to hear you say you took a NAP with your hubs! That is sooo important to sometimes just stop, take a break, pull back a little bit and focus on what YOU need. Happy for you 🙂

  14. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 18, 2012 at 1:10 pm

I think your boss is right about that multitasking because I do it too. Another one: you know you’re a fitness instructor when you hear one of the songs from your playlist on the radio and you start doing your choreography to it…. in the car.

  15. Amy @ Our Four Letter Words on May 18, 2012 at 1:18 pm

You should take naps more often. My Great Grandma always said a day without a nap is a day wasted. We will probably go for a walk or two this weekend. While out hunting butterflies and bugs today I rolled my ankle that was severely damaged in our accident 5.5 months ago so whatever we do will be inside on even ground.

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 1:25 pm

i couldn’t agree more about naps. before i had livi, i napped almost every afternoon. maybe i’ll start napping more while she sleeps 🙂

  16. Kerry @ Totes My Oats on May 18, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Naps with loved ones are the best! 🙂

  17. E on May 18, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Busybody doesn’t mean what you think it means.

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/busybody

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Thanks for the definition! I’m always very literal on the blog and don’t like to play with words 😉

      • E on May 19, 2012 at 8:31 am

I realize that came off as snarky… I was trying to make a Princess Bride joke but I think I failed. Sorry. 🙂

        • Fitnessista on May 19, 2012 at 10:35 am

          no worries at all

  18. Catalina @ Cake with Love on May 18, 2012 at 1:34 pm

I loved bad teacher, I also recently bought the coconut creamer and I add it to my mint chocolate tea – it is amazing! The booty workout sounds great, i will give it a try during the wekend! 🙂

  19. Becky on May 18, 2012 at 1:43 pm

good for you for “checking out” every now and then and relaxing with the hubs! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 2:06 pm

      it was sooooooo nice 🙂

  20. Kristen on May 18, 2012 at 1:57 pm

I love rice crispies, too! They remind me of being a litte kid. I like to mix them w a serving of granola to bulk up the bowl and eat it with some Greek Yogurt instead of milk for staying power.

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 2:03 pm

yes! with some almond butter drizzled on top 🙂

  21. Amanda @ Whipped it up on May 18, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I am a total type A have to stay busy all the time person. I am currently reading the Four Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferries and it is so good. It is teaching me that sometimes I am busy just to be busy and that there are more efficient ways to get things accomplished. Definitely a recommended read. Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 3:11 pm

i’ll definitely check that out! i feel like while i’m always doing something, i still waste a lot of time

  22. Tara on May 18, 2012 at 3:06 pm

Thanks for the idea! I just did 15 squats at work in my cubicle along with another leg exercise I know (just don’t know the name of it). That’s all I really felt I could get away with in my cubicle without anyone seeing me. 🙂 But if felt great and got my heart rate up just enough to face this workload starring back at me! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 3:11 pm

that’s awesome! i’m glad it gave you a little energy burst 🙂

  23. Kristi @ Sweetly Fit on May 18, 2012 at 3:24 pm

I can relate X100000 to being a busy body. My brain refuses to not think if at all possible haha. Yoga and meditation always really help me to calm down and ease into a relaxing evening though. It’s amazing what just a few minutes of deep breathes can do!

  24. mary on May 18, 2012 at 4:12 pm

What car is he getting? Did you ever pick a new one for yourself or is this one for both of you? I love car research. Just ignore me if its too personal!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2012 at 4:17 pm

no worries at all. we decided to keep my car because all of the major repairs have been done (we put a lot into getting it fixed) and he’s going to trade his car in and get the suv. i’m pretty sure we’re getting a 4runner

      • mary on May 18, 2012 at 5:49 pm

        Oh, nice! Love those .

  25. Anna @ The Guiltless Life on May 18, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Ah yes I feel the same way about rice krispies – love em but they don’t fill me up!

This is a long weekend in BC so I’m heading over to a small gulf island with 8 friends to stay in a cabin all weekend! It’s one of my friend’s birthdays so we’re celebrating it outdoors style. Can’t wait!

  26. marinka on May 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

doesn’t matter what busybody really means-language is alive organism in constant change. i love making up new words. I’m not a fitness instructor, but hoping to become one soon(zumba:)) and I also cannot sit still! and totally multitask all the time! but also tonight I left the apartment a total mess and just went to bed to read:) enjoy and have a nice day, here is nighttime:)

  27. Sophia on May 18, 2012 at 6:16 pm

    Hi Gina!

I was wondering, what kind of coconut creamer do you use? Right now I use the soy creamer from Trader Joe’s but would love a flavored kind.

Also, I am starting your Summer Shape Up program next week! Please wish me luck!

    Have a great weekend 🙂

  28. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on May 18, 2012 at 8:44 pm

I love taking a night off like that every once in a while – otherwise I think I’d go crazy!

  29. Rebecca on May 18, 2012 at 10:33 pm

Bad Teacher made me cringe, mostly because I’m a teacher. Still a hilarious movie though. I watched it on my ‘last night alone’ when I had the house to myself and was 40w pregnant 🙂

I wish I could be more busy once baby goes to bed. Just doesn’t happen at night. But during naps I try and get as much done as I can

  30. Lisa on May 19, 2012 at 12:37 am

I am the worst multitasker of all time. I always try to do it, and then while I’m doing one thing I totally forget the other things I was doing before…not too good. Maybe I should just stop trying to be a multitasker. Bad Teacher was hilarious. I thought

  31. Katherine on May 19, 2012 at 8:52 am

Thanks for the booty burn workout! I woke up feeling that lovely burn. 🙂 Yea!! Have a good weekend!
