treadmill workout

Good morning, friends! Hope you’re having a Happy Monday <3

This is what happens when I don’t make dinner:

pei wei

That is a Pei Wei fail.

See the shrimp? They’re brown and gnarly. I’d never had burnt shrimp before, but there about as far from delicious as you might imagine.

The sunset made up for the lackluster dinner :)

After chilling at the casa for a little while –I worked on a fun project and the Pilot had to study- we took Bell for a walk. I had been in such a good habit of taking her, and then after we got back from San Diego, it fell by the wayside. Sorry, Bell! She was so happy, she probably forgot about the hat I put on her earlier in the day.

hat

My friend Laury sent this to us, along with an amazing baby package, and I am in love with the hat. I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like on a real person, and since it wouldn’t fit my head, Bella was the model. She didn’t love it quite as much as I do ;) She did her “statue mode” that happens whenever I put any type of attire on her, except for a coat, which she can deal with.

Breakfast this morning was the standard egg-rito, with a cup of hot tea:

eggrito

I’ve been rotating with eggs, egg-ritos and oatmeal since the weather cooled down. I think I need some crepes or protein pancakes in the near future to switch it up.

So excited that this week is Thanksgiving week! I’ve been writing down the things that I’m thankful for to share, and don’t forget, you still have a couple of weeks to make it a knock-out November. One of the things I have to do over the next couple of days is start prepping food (I think I’m going to make millet stuffing, cranberry sauce, and raw cayenne chocolate truffles), and prepping my Black Friday list. I’ll share my plan of attack over on the Fashion page.

I’m off to help the fam with an errand, and then it’s iron-pumping time!

See ya later with a Family post.

xoxo

Workout Quickie: I’ll be posting these throughout the holiday season, as our schedules get more crazy and gym time becomes more sacred. They’ll be short, crazy-effective workouts that can be done either at home, or with minimal equipment to get the most bang for your holiday workout buck. Expect a fun mix of cardio, weights and flexibility routines!

Turkey Treadmill workout

This is a cardio workout utilizing Tabata intervals and hills. Feel free to bust it out anytime during the holiday season when you just have 20 minutes to get in a good sweat. [As always, check with a doctor before making any fitness changes]

Time Incline (%) Speed (mph)
0:00-3:00 2.5 3.5-4.0 (walk)
3:00-5:00 2.5 5.5-6.0 (jog)
5:00-9:00 2.5 Tabata intervals: alternate between sprinting (as fast as you can) and recovering (warm-up pace 4.0-5.5) for 10 seconds, 8 times for a total of 4 minutes
9:00-11:00 5.0 4.0 (we’re starting a hill climb- if you need to choose between speed and resistance, go for resistance and take your speed down a notch)
11:00-12:00 7.0 4.0
12:00-13:00 9.0 4.0
13:00-14:00 11.0 4.0
14:00-15:00 13.00 3.5
15:00-16:00 2.5 4.0
16:00-20:00 2.5 Tabata intervals: alternate between sprinting (as fast as you can) and recovering (warm-up pace 4.0-5.5) for 10 seconds, 8 times for a total of 4 minutes
Cool down, stretch.

Hope you enjoy! I’d love to hear how you like it.

Hi friends <3 How are you? Hope you’re having a beautiful Saturday. Mine has been pretty bueno- home from work on my lunch break to chill for a little while before heading back.

Two of the things I was most excited about having a balcony in our new place were:

1) Late night vino and gazing at the stars with the Pilot

2) Blogging al fresco

chair

The vino thang won’t be happening for a few more months, but today the weather was nice enough to take the laptop outside- it’s always fun to have a change of scenery.

I turned the alarm off this morning instead of hitting snooze –oops… I always hit snooze at least twice- and breakfast was taken to-go.

sandwich

Egg puff on brown rice bread with mustard, spinach, nutritional yeast and goat cheese

Snacks:

It was my first time trying the Vega Endurance bar –OpenSky sent it to me since they know I like Vega- and I was definitely a fan. It had the same texture as my beloved Vibracy bars, with a mellow mocha flavor (190 cals), so they will most likely be in my store soon. Vega bars are very hard to find and pricey, so we’ll be sure to offer some promos on them.

Time to make some lunch and head back for Zuuuuuumba!

See ya later with a Family post.

Something to talk about: Do you enjoy bars, or do you prefer making your own snacks? I like to make my own snacks, but bars are amazing for something quick, purse snack stashes or traveling. My all-time fave (for right now) is the green Vega Vibracy bar –the one with spirulina- and second fave is the Blueberry Pie Larabar. I really need to try making my own bars at home again- last time, they were kind of a fail ;)

Something to do:

Quick 25-minute treadmill blitz!

I teach a class that’s half cardio on the treadmill, half weights. It’s a great way to get in cardio and strength training within a 50-minute period. Here’s what we did the other day:

[As always, check with a doctor before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and injuries- if it hurts, don’t do it]

1) Warm up
0:00-3:00
Speed: Quick pace; anywhere from 3.8-6.0 Incline: 2.5% [Most closely mimics the earth’s natural incline]
3:00-12:00 Keep your speed, or bring it up a little Start at 4.0, and increase your incline by 1% every minute
12:00-13:00 Run up the hill; bring your speed up and maintain it for one minute. Maintain your heaviest incline
13:00-15:00 Recover; bring speed back down to initial warm-up pace. 2.5%
15:00-15:40 Sprint- as fast as you can go. It can either be a power walk, a jog or full-up sprint 2.5%
15:40-17:00 Recover. Bring your speed back down to a quick and comfortable pace 2.5%
17:00-17:40 Sprint again! 3.0%
17:40-19:00 Recover 3.0%
19:00-19:40 Sprint again! 3.0%
19:40-21:00 Recover 2.5%
21:00-22:00 Sprint- last one, and it’s the longest one {t.w.s.s}. Pace yourself- if you need to go slower than you have been, that’s ok! 2.5%
22:00-25:00 Cool down. Take your pace down your initial warm-up pace, and then slowly decrease it each minute 2.5%
Stretch.
