Center Stage

Hi guys! How are ya?? It’s Indian Food Wednesday! Who’s celebrating?? To be totally honest… I haven’t had Indian Food in a couple of weeks because last time I had it for dinner, we watched “The Cove” and I was traumatized and up sick all night. After taking a break, I think I’m ready for my favorite cuisine again 😉 I may attack it like a roti-crazed barbarian…..

The past couple of days, it’s been POURING here in Orlando.

This little frog took shelter from the rain on the porch:

frog

I know how you feel, frog. I’m a squatter too 😉

Last night, as tempting as it was to stay in from the crazy rain, I went to a hip hop class at one of the studios near Disney.

Remember in Center Stage when Jodie goes into the jazz class and busts out?

center_stage

That’s kinda what it felt like 🙂

Minus this, of course:

The instructor who taught last night was seriously amazing. I learned a lot of fun hip hoppy moves and how to FLOAT, which definitely needs practice. We danced to an Outkast song and it felt SO good to take a traditional dance class with college kids and adults with a lot of dance experience. I’ll going to see if I can take a jazz class this week 🙂

Some recent eats:

Choc Cherry Bomb

bomb

Kamut bread with melted Daiya and asparagus

cheese

Further proof that Daiya is real cheese: the dogs come running into the kitchen when I open the bag. The smell of it is ridiculously authentic

(Viesa is *above* begging… most of the time)

After hip hop and the end of Glee –I have to watch the rest today!- I had a little breakfast cookie assembly line going. One for my cousin (tree nut-free, so I used peanut butter instead of almond), one for my aunt, and one for me in a bowl so I can munch it after yoga.

bfast cookie

-1/2 C oats

-1 T almond butter

-1/2 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-Cinnamon and nutmeg

-1/4 C pumpkin

-half banana

-almond milk

cacao nibs

+ apple

I’m off work today (!) so I’m going to do the yoga thang, send off some paperwork, make macaroons, spa appointment and look for a netbook…. I think it will make blogging at work a lot easier! 🙂

Have a fabulous day and I’ll see ya later with my Nature’s Pride recipe.

xoxo,

Gina

    Hi Fitnessista!
Can I just say how much i LOVE your blog – it’s so vibrant and happy.
I have a couple questions about your lifestyle. I am a ‘quasi’ tarian too but want to cut back on the amount of animal protein I eat – currently, a lot of eggs and sporadic chicken.
Firstly do you measure your protein intake? As a highly active person, does it worry you that being nearly vegan you might not get ‘enough’ protein? I am 125lb, 5’6 female and I only manage to get around 70g on a quasi diet (with no eggs/meat). Is that enough?
Secondly I am really in a calorie counting rut and could you do a post on how you got out of that? I mean, I don’t know how to stop couting and LISTEN to my body…I’ve been cuotning for YEARS now! But I want to be more like you and more in tune…can you help?
Thanks, and sorry for the long post!
    Jilly.

Oh my gosh… was obsessed with Center Stage. I think all former dancers are! Have a great day off! 🙂

    • RhodeyGirl on September 29, 2010 at 9:22 am

I once watched Center Stage 5 times in a row.. like, in one night. Sick!

  3. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on September 29, 2010 at 8:58 am

You just MADE MY MORNING by bringing up Center Stage. Cooper Nielson was such a creeper though…and Jodie was the best. And I think that was Eva Saldena’s first movie? Good memories.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

  4. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on September 29, 2010 at 9:04 am

Ahhhh, LOVE that movie! PS…How good was GLEE last night?!?! 🙂 🙂

  5. Joslyn (missfitbliss) on September 29, 2010 at 9:04 am

I don’t know anything about Center Stage. I’m kind of a media cast out. But the pictures are hilarious, and I do know what you mean. I used to go to this studio in Atlanta called Dance 101 and it was phenomenal. They had some crucial hip hop classes there, with amazing music. I was always in the back row;) I think I may have attempted “floating” once or twice there!

  6. Erin Hayes on September 29, 2010 at 9:08 am

Center Stage is one of my fav movies! I agree with the above post that Cooper was a crepper!!! SKETCHHH!

I love the pics of the pups staring up at you! So cute! Good luck with the netbook search 🙂

I won a huge gift basket for this food contest where I made a Vegan Burger and Sweet potato fries, and one of the things in the basket was “The Cove”…I still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it! I am not 100% sure what it’s even REALLY about, I think the Dolphin fishing industry? Fish is the ONLY thing I still eat (not dolphin of course—-yikes!) so I am hoping it doesn’t do what The China Study or Food revolution did to me about meat and turn me off from ever eating salmon again! I get all activist-ish when I see people abusing animals, and I am so afraid watching it will send me over the deep end. You have me even more scared now, LOL.

  8. allison @ thesundayflog on September 29, 2010 at 9:17 am

i really hope im not the only one who goes into ballet-mode after watching center stage. seriously i prance around all day – even just to get the phone or grab a snack. it’s the best. i even used to practice my switch kicks in my tiny apartment in south africa!! my roommates thought i was crazy. and i def thought that would happen to you with indian food! i once got extrememly nauseas after eating a hummus and veggie wrap (my all time fave) and it took me a few years before i could eat hummus again!!

  9. Michelle C on September 29, 2010 at 9:19 am

LOVE that you just referenced Center Stage. “How do you expect 10 thousand people to watch you raise your arm if you don’t do it beautifully?” haha. I’m a geek.

And Glee was beyond epic. In my next life I want to come back as the girl who plays Brittney. Seriously, she is the best dancer!

  10. RhodeyGirl on September 29, 2010 at 9:23 am

I miss teaching dance and I miss taking dance classes. Before I moved to Philly I taught at least once a week and took an adult dance class with all of my former classmates. It was awesome and I miss it so much!

  11. Dana Marie on September 29, 2010 at 9:27 am

You should challah if you ever come to NYC! There are so many open classes with all the most legit peeps — Center Stage was shot at one of my old dancing schools (when I was there!) haha

  12. Lynn @ SVE on September 29, 2010 at 9:29 am

I wish I could dance. I totally regret giving up ballet sometimes! I might revisit it when I’m older 🙂

  13. JsEverydayFashion on September 29, 2010 at 9:35 am

What are the odds?! I just tweeted this after watching Dancing with the Stars last night (they had a ballet segment).

“Is anyone else obsessed with ballet? I love ballet-inspired clothes, watching ballet and dancing ballet around the house like a fool.”

    Absolutely love that movie!! 🙂

  14. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on September 29, 2010 at 9:44 am

I’m going to WF this weekend and I’m going to get some Daiya — it LOOKS like real cheese 🙂

I had a Bfast cookie this morning too 🙂 It was delicious.

I haven’t seen Center Stage (well, I haven’t seen all of it) but I love dancey type movies like that — makes me wish I knew how to!

  15. Laura on September 29, 2010 at 9:44 am

Ha! I loved that movie. I just saw it recently and didn’t remember that acting being so bad back when I loved it years ago. I think most of them are dancers first so it makes sense, its still a cute movie.

  16. Kristina @ spabettie on September 29, 2010 at 10:06 am

oh, GOOD for getting your INdian Food on !! 🙂

stay dry and stay safe… it looks like a BAD storm!! Happy Day Off !!

  17. AllieNic @ Frisky Lemon on September 29, 2010 at 10:08 am

AH! I LOVE Center Stage. One of my favorite movies of all time. I used to be a ballerina (kind of…in no way was I professional)…I have the movie on VHS and DVD! Addicted.

  18. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on September 29, 2010 at 10:13 am

The little frog is so cute! I wish I had that kind of wildlife sitting outside my house. 🙂 Center Stage was one of my favourite movies when I was younger. I am probably the most un-graceful person on this planet, but I’d love to take some hip hop classes like the one you did. Sounds like fun!

  19. Sana on September 29, 2010 at 10:24 am

I really really love that you are taking so many dance classes 🙂 I hope it’s making your heart smile!!

  20. Angela on September 29, 2010 at 10:36 am

Ahhh! I love love love Center Stage. Hahaha. I used to watch it all the time in high school. I can’t believe its Indian Food Wednesday. I haven’t had Indian food in ages and now I’m craving it. Fortunately lunch is in one hour. I can’t wait!

  21. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on September 29, 2010 at 10:37 am

I LOVE Center Stage!! That move is so, so good!! I remember seeing it when I was little and thinking that end dance was so dirty. Haha.

  22. hippierunner on September 29, 2010 at 10:38 am

Funny that the dogs ran over because of the Daiya! They look so cute like they’re waiting for some.

  23. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on September 29, 2010 at 10:49 am

That movie was so great! I saw it in the theaters way back when and so wanted to get back to my dance career. Sigh, that never happened, but I can still love the movie.

    Cute frog 😉

  24. Little Bookworm on September 29, 2010 at 10:51 am

Hope you have a great Indian Food Wednesday! 😀 The breakfast cookie cereal looks amazing. Great post on moving/getting used to a new place by the way!

  25. Brittany on September 29, 2010 at 11:12 am

I’m going to celebrate today by having some leftover Indian inspired spilt pea soup for lunch! I wish I had some roti to go with it.

I hope all is going well in Orlando my lady – it sounds like you are having a great time getting to attend classes and shop at Whole Foods more often! 😉

    xoxo

  34. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 29, 2010 at 12:45 pm

Love Oprah’s quote and message. I don’t believe in luck very much. I believe being prepared, always giving your best, and being in a good position and place to always rise to the occasion or opportunity at hand that presents itself..that’s what matters most. Preparedness and preparation + the right opportunity coming up = my definition of “luck”. Sure there is some luck in life, some chance, fate, if you will, but we make our own luck. Ok rambling sorry…

Outkast. And floating. Those 2 things together would pretty much be awesome for me!!! Love outkast, saw them at an outdoor music fest once. So fun!

And a new netbook. I just got a new macbook that was 3 mos old off Craigslist. I posted about it about 2 weeks ago. Basically it was half the price of a brand new one from apple. Some people wouldnt want to buy used electronics but hey, it was 3 mos old and an apple, I trust in macs, so was fine with it. I love it. If you wanna save alot of cashola, check Craigslist. You will find some great deals im sure!

    🙂

I saw your chocolate cherry bomb featured in an article on the health and fitness section of Glamour’s website! I need to try one of those babies. Cherries and chocolate are a perfect combo 🙂

I love the quote! Every choice somebody makes is exactly that- a choice. Whether it will benefit you or not is the individual’s choice.

I want to take a dance class so bad! It seems like so much fun!

  37. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on September 29, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Oh, I loved Center Stage! Seeing those pics makes me want to watch it again! 😀

I miss taking dance classes, too! It’s been a few years now, so I have a feeling I’d be pretty rusty at it!

  38. Emily on September 29, 2010 at 1:10 pm

The Cooper picture made me LOL. Awesome reference 🙂

  39. AmyJoGo on September 29, 2010 at 1:26 pm

One of my favorite feel good movies! I still have a crush on Charlie. And since we’re on the subject…how about Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance!? <3 both of those movies along with Coyote Ugly.

  40. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on September 29, 2010 at 1:47 pm

I loved that movie. Of course, I’m a horrible dancer and I really just liked it because they could do things I couldn’t even dream about. I’m a spas on the dance floor, unfortunately.

  41. Paije on September 29, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Cuuuuteee little froggie! I used to LOVE Center Stage haha – this totally made my day! I took jazz dancing from when I was 6-13 yrs old but haven’t done it since! I would love to take a class and see if I remember anything 🙂 Happy day off! xx

    Hey Gina-
I was curious what the ingredient list is like on the Daiya. I know a lot of dairy-free products of crazy ingredient list, and if this one is fairly good then I would love to check it out. Also-since you seem to know a lot about nutrition, I was wondering if you use coconut butter in your smoothies. Or coconut oil. I’ve heard so many mix things about this and wasn’t sure if it was good or bad for you. Can you use it in the smoothies WITH hemp seeds or is that too much fat for one smoothie? Thanks!

Is Viesa staying w/you guys now? I thought she was going to stay with someone else?

Wait, is it creepy that I knew that? Please don’t answer if this an invasion of privacy. 🙁

    • Fitnessista on September 29, 2010 at 4:10 pm

haha not creepy at all 🙂
viessy is with us. she was originally going to stay with another family but they have a small yorkie and don’t know about the viesa-isms yet. we’ve worked really hard to train her a particular way so i figured it would be best for her to have a stable environment while the pilot is away. besides, i’d miss her too much 🙂

  45. ellie on September 29, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Center Stage. The acting is horrible – but the storyline and dancing are so fun! I used to watch it all the time. Did you know there is a Center Stage 2? (Or maybe it’s called something else, I can’t remember…)
I would have loved to go to a hip hop dance class – but in small town Wisconsin, that’s kind of hard to come by. I’m just lucky to have a great Zumba class to go to twice a week.
Your dogs are so freaking cute! I think if they were mine I’d be sqeezing them all the time. heehee…I am always loving on my cats and dog, even though sometimes they don’t love it back! haha!

  46. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 29, 2010 at 7:40 pm
