Chicken Fiend

Hi guys 😀 How’s your day going?? Mine has been bueno- today has been a little frantic because I’m making dinner for the commander’s familia.

The menu:

Chicken Enchiladas

-Mexican fruit and veggie salad (cucumber, strawberries, pineapple, jicama, bell pepper, tomato, red onion, lime juice and cilantro)

Chipotle-style Basmati rice with lime and cilantro

Chocolate chip gooey butter cakes with ice cream

For realz 😀

Check out who can smell the chicken roasting already:

bella

Doesn’t she look like a crazy obsessed chicken fiend?? Goofer 😀

I started off this morning with the usual bfast cookie dough cereal (skip the mashed banana, add more milk):

cereal

The star of the show was 1/2 a crumbled AllieBar that I traded some macaroons for at the Summit 😀

Those things are GOOD. Love that they’re a little salty, chewy and not too crumbly.

After bfast, I made the pilot some huevos and toast and went to Wizzle to fight for my sanity.

When I got back to the casa, I decided to break into these bad Johnnies:

raweo

Raw Chai Raweos!

I’ve had these before in Tucson, but couldn’t wait to try to try them again.

raweo (2)

Like a supersoft blonde Oreo, with a creamy filling and strong chai flavor. Lurve.

I’m off to get crack-a-lackin on the cooking for tonight, meet the girls for a smoothie, get my workout face on, train two clients and then take dinner over to the commander’s familia. I think I’ll save some for the Pilot, too 😉

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

My thoughts on Eat, Pray, Love: After a glorious dinner at Bleu Pub last night with the girls, we went to go see Eat, Pray, Love, which I’ve been anxiously awaiting all summer. The verdict? It was really good, but not as fab as I thought it would be. I LOVED the book, but even with the beautiful scenery and perfect casting, it was missing something. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that’s as good as the book, though 😉 Does that even happen??

Today’s workout jam: Please help a girl out on this one 😀 My iPod needs some sweet new songs- what are you loving right now??

Mmm I love the looks of the cookie dough cereal! I’ve been getting bored with my usual morning cereal, so I might give that a go sometime soon. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie as good as the book either, but I feel like Eat Pray Love wasn’t a super exciting book, so it doesn’t translate as well into a movie. The best movie-books are the ones with lots going on!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 11:38 am

that’s so true- even though i loved the book, it was definitely slow moving

  2. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 17, 2010 at 11:39 am

Those Paula Deen cakes sound delicious. Please take a pic today!

By the way I love how your new pics look — are you loving your new camera?

I recently read The Lovely Bones and I’m nervous to see the movie because movies are hardly ever as good as the books. Um, take the Twilight books as the perfect example of that!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 11:44 am

the lovely bones movie is TOTALLY different from the book- let me know what you think!
and yes, i like the new cam but still have no clue how to use it 😉

  3. Mandy A on August 17, 2010 at 11:43 am

Two things I NEED to try… an Allie bar and breakfast cookie dough cereal! YUM!!!

  4. Lauren on August 17, 2010 at 11:46 am

Yeah, I agree totally with you saying Eat, Pray, Love was missing something. You can’t really put your finger on what it is exactly, but it just wasn’t amazing.

  5. Sara K on August 17, 2010 at 11:47 am

Those chai oreo-lookalikes look and sounds AMAZING!!! I also read and loved EPL but I’m not sure if I really want to see the movie.
    As for new workout songs:
Like a G6- Far East Movement
Anything by David Guetta (Getting over you, Memories)

  6. Sandra on August 17, 2010 at 11:48 am

Only book I’ve ever read that I thought the movie was better? The Notebook. But that’s it. Otherwise, I usually dread the movie, especially if I loved the book.

    • Sandra on August 17, 2010 at 11:48 am

And I haven’t finished reading Eat, Pray, Love yet, so I’ll just wait until it’s on Netflix 🙂

    • Jill on August 17, 2010 at 9:23 pm

I completely agree with you about the Notebook! I was going to write the EXACT same thing. I just prefer how the movie laid the story out much better. Happy that I’m not alone, the movie is a classic.

  7. Mali on August 17, 2010 at 11:48 am

Your menu sounds amazing! Can’t wait to see pics…
I’m guessing you like merengue and salsa b/c of your jammin’ Zumba classes 😉
When I need new music for my workouts I go to http://www.lostraficante.com. They have newer merengue mambo songs, bachata, reggaeton, etc. that you can download.
    Have a great day!

I am loving the album “Lungs” by Florence and the Machine. “Dog days are over” is a great song to workout to but the whole album rocks.

I wish I could go to that dinner! The menu sounds awesome 🙂

I would give you song suggestions but I have no idea what anything is called or who even sings it! I just know them from the radio! 🙁

  12. Alicia on August 17, 2010 at 12:36 pm

Not new, but I love working out to Santigold! And, not a movie, but True Blood/sookie novels! I think they’re doing a great job on that!

  13. Rachel on August 17, 2010 at 12:41 pm

“Work it out” by lil jon and pitbull is my fave song to workout to right now and anything by the DJ “Girl Talk” is great too!

  14. Sharon on August 17, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I felt the exact same way about the movie.

  15. Kristina @ spabettie on August 17, 2010 at 12:49 pm

  16. Whitney @ Whitinspired on August 17, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Teenage Dream by Katy Perry and the song from the trailer of Eat, Prat, Love called “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + the Machine…or any really song by them!

I love how Bella’s eyes are bugged out of her head…my dogs do the same thing, it’s hilarious.

  17. Maddie on August 17, 2010 at 12:57 pm

These are great, especially for Spin (are you still teaching by the way)?

    Ghosts n’ Stuff – deadmau5 (hill repeats)
    Slam – Pendelum (cadence ladder)
Ghost Town – Shiny Toy Guns (sprints on a hill)
Put your Hands Up for Detroit – Fedde le Grand (jumps)

Best of You MDS Remix – Foo Fighters (flat/intervals)
Icky Thump – White Stripes (faster climb)
Blue Blood Blues – The Dead Weather (climb)

  20. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on August 17, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Chai blonde oreo treat? YUM! Where do you get those???

I have a feeling the EPL movie won’t compare. The book was just way too phenomenal and I’m worried that their idea of the movie won’t match my own visions in my head.

  21. Krystina on August 17, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I recently made your breakfast cookie dough for the first time and I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, but now I crave them! They taste especially good with my homemade sesame milk. Yum!

  22. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 17, 2010 at 1:10 pm

I have yet to try the chocolate “classic” oreos in the raw version, raweo’s or whatever their cute little name is b/c they are like 8 bucks for a couple cookies and I havent splurged but I want to!

Ok so your last post about Lulu. First, love the the shirt is a lil baggy and not skin tight. I think that look is playyyyyed out and thank you for showing a baggier tank.

Next, I agree 100%%%%% that expensive workout clothes just are not cool or necessary. As a yoga teacher, I have a few pieces that are pricey but most of my stuff lately is just sports bras from target, random shorts and tees that I pair with them. You dont need to spend $100 on a pair of capri pants when the 14.99 ones from Target will do or just make due with existing stuff. I always cringe when girls tell me they want to buy yoga clothes and what do i recommend b/c they dont know if they can spend $200 on 2 things at Lulu. I always tell them it’s not necessary!

That said, for anyone who loves it, can afford it and it’s not gonna take food off your table to splurge on nice workout stuff, by all means, buy it and enjoy it! As I know you will with yours 🙂

Btw, I love the co’s Prana and Be Present for yoga clothes. Much nicer stuff, imo, than Lulu but that’s just me.

SOrry this is a marathon comment but fashion + yoga = I get chatty!!!

    🙂

  24. Jessie (Bites and Pieces) on August 17, 2010 at 1:11 pm

I just saw EPL last night and I felt the same way, it was definitely missing something. Probably because it is hard to take all of her thoughts and put them into movie form. So much of the book is what she is thinking/feeling inside her head.

  25. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 17, 2010 at 1:11 pm

aw, i’m sad to hear the movie wasn’t as great as the book! i’m almost done with the book and am BEGGING the hubby to take me to the movies this weekend 🙂

  26. Laura J. on August 17, 2010 at 1:12 pm

I’m loving Dynamite (Taio Cruz–not sure if I spelled his name right) and Teenage Dreams (Katy Perry). 🙂

I was wondering if you were going to post a pic of yourself in your Rent the Runway dress?

  27. Jaclyn on August 17, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I didn’t read the book but agree–missing something.. I did like it though!

Ooooooooohh dinner sounds fab, are you having them over or just delivering it?! Sounds amazing, make me some!! 😀

  28. Stephanie on August 17, 2010 at 1:27 pm

I’ve been listening to the new MIA for a few weeks. “It takes a muscle” is by far my fave new song for stretching. You should check it out!

  29. Ashley on August 17, 2010 at 1:33 pm

Lately I’ve been rocking to the Jersey Shore soundtrack while I do my cardio. The music they use on the show always makes me want to get moving.

That menu sounds AH-mazing! Mexican food is my absolute favorite!

  30. Jessica @ How Sweet on August 17, 2010 at 1:37 pm

  31. Ashley (whole-ier) on August 17, 2010 at 1:38 pm

I thought the movie The Devil Wears Prada was better than the book. That is about the only one I felt that way about though.

    • Lauren on August 17, 2010 at 1:54 pm

So true! The movie was WAY better than the book.

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 2:12 pm

      YES! that movie was excellent

  32. Anne @ Your Kind o Salad on August 17, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Your menu for tonight looks delish! Totally random question; but when cooking for others do you ever worry about using cilantro? I love it, and use it all the time, but others like my mother hate it (because of it tasting like “soap”) and I wonder if this has ever happened to you? Or do you just inquire if your guests like the herb before cooking with it?

I told you this question was random!

    Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 2:12 pm

you’re totally right- i’d never thought of that! i guess it’s because i grew up putting cilantro on anything. usually when we have people over, i know in advance that they like or dislike anything, but for tonight i’m going to put it in there… hopefully they don’t have a prob with it

  33. Andrea on August 17, 2010 at 1:41 pm

For the songs, I think Meiple and Rollacosta by Robin Thicke are excellent.
Also, Roll It Gal by Alison Hinds is great, too!

  35. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on August 17, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I agree, I’m usually disappointed with a movie if I’ve read the book first. I can’t think of a movie that was better than its book, though.

  36. April @ Crazy Fabulous Life on August 17, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Are you having them over for dinner, or are you just making dinner for them? I don’t see any Fitnessista-friendly food in your list (besides the salad)!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 2:11 pm

no, i’m taking dinner to their house. made extra enchi’s for the pilot and saved some filling (before i added the chicken) to use as a salad topper for me 🙂

  38. Scargosun on August 17, 2010 at 1:46 pm

So far the only movies that I think translated well from book to movie were the LOTR series and even in that they had to leave a lot out. I might see EPL by myself though.

Songs I like on my running mix:
Love Rollercoaster – Red Hot Chili Pepper version
    Send Your Love – Sting
Hong Kong Garden – Bow Wow Wow
    Aphrodisiac – Bow Wow Wow

I have more but don’t have my iPod in front of me

  39. Lauren on August 17, 2010 at 1:57 pm

My mom made Paula’s pumpkin gooey butter cakes last year for Thanksgiving… oh my, I think I had three bars the night before the Thanksgiving Day half-marathon in Atlanta. I think they really helped!

As for music, have you heard Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me”? Es muy bueno. 🙂 And anything by Empire of the Sun and MGMT. Lovvveee.

  40. Teri [a foodie stays fit] on August 17, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I’m loving Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me.” It’s kind of a funny song but totally catchy.

    Other fave workout songs:
    Aly & A.J. – “Potential Breakup Song”
Florence & the Machine – “Dog Days Are Over”
    Cobra Starship – “Hot Mess”

  41. Laura on August 17, 2010 at 1:59 pm

My iPod probably needs an update too.

Christina Aguilera’s new album has a lot of songs that are great for work outs. I’m not really a fan of the album overall but ones like “My Girls”, “Bionic”, “Not Myself Tonight” and “Vanity” are really up tempo and I’m digging for my cardio. Vanity is all about loving yourself so a little ego boost to go with the tunes!

  42. CathyK on August 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I saw EPL last night, too, and agree it isn’t as good as the book…that being said, i really enjoyed the movie, and thought julia roberts fit the role of liz very well (i wasn’t sure beforehand if i agreed with the casting). i would have cut 30-45 minutes off the length of the movie – a quicker pace might have helped a little!

  43. Janna ~ Just Flourishing on August 17, 2010 at 2:04 pm

That Mexican fruit and veggie salad looks riiight up my alley! I need to make it asap!

I just finished reading Eat Pray Love and I was really looking forward to the movie…but i’ve been hearing dissapointing reviews. hm. i’ll prob see it anyway

And you are so sweet for making all of that food! I am sure that family will love it!

I LIKED the book but didn’t LOVE the book so I’m worried that I definitely won’t love the movie since I’ve only heard lulewarm reviews of it. Sad…

BEST workout power-song ever = Prima Donna by Christina Aguilera, its from her new Bionic album. Whenever I’m running low on energy during a workout, and that song comes on, I’m full throttle. It’s quite empowering (:

  50. Katie G. on August 17, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I actually saw Eat Pray Love last night as well. Def. something was missing….but I have never seen a movie and liked it after reading the book. The characters were great (especially Felipe!), however I just wasn’t feeling it as much as I was while reading it…they needed more voiceovers of her thoughts or something…it just felt rushed.

I am going to try to do the opposite now, read a book AFTER seeing a movie. Next up on my list: Sideways. I liked the movie but it’s been a while, so hoping the book is good too!
