Club Can’t Handle Me

Hi guys! How are you?? Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday 🙂 Thanks for the compliments on my second Foodbuzz challenge dinner. It was a BEAST, but I’m glad to have a newfound appreciation for ravioli.

We’ve done a number on the cake already 😉

Heh heh.

So yesterday morning, my cousin Emily and I went to Dance Trance. I’ve been wanting to try it ever since Katy told me about it when we had our Seasons dinner! Zumba has done an amazing job of filling the “I miss dance” void (I danced up until 5 years ago and taught through high school and college), but I was so excited to try something different and more traditional style since Zumba is Latin and international rhythms.

Here’s what a class looks like:

Flashing lights, loud music, amazing choreography, current popular songs… I was in love 🙂

While the moves were a lot of standard hip hop and jazz moves, instead of feeling like a traditional dance class, it totally had a music video/club vibe.

Amazeballs 🙂

For Dance Trance classes, you can either go during the week for the “breakdown” classes, where they go through the choreography and all of the moves, or you can show up to the full cardio class, where they do all of the songs for an hour and a half, without any breakdown. The verses and choruses repeat choreography so it makes it easier to pick it up. I’m excited to go back and see how much I remember 😉

Since Dance Trance is down the street from Infusion Tea, we made a little stop on the way home 😀
infusion tea

The standard Concorde Wrap (hummus, greens, tabbouli and balsamic) with bean salad.

I ended up saving it for dinner because the can of pumpkin was staring at me 😉 I found Libby’s pumpkin at Publix the other day (finally!!!) and may have screamed in delight and danced down the aisle holding 6 cans.

pumpkin oats

Pumpkin protein oats with:

-1/2 C pumpkin

-almond milk

-1/2 C oats

-1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-Cinnamon and Stevia

Today I’m off to walk the puppers and then to work for a little while.

Hope you have a great day!

xoxo,

G

Something to talk about: Techie help!!! The blog has been a little iffy ever since I switched hosts a few weeks ago. Some friends have let me know that my posts aren’t showing up in Google reader and the subscribe link on the top right side is broken. My webmaster broke up with me since I switched hosts and I’m not so good with technology….. If anyone knows how to fix these or knows of an awesome webmaster I could hire, please let me know! <3

Today’s workout jam: “Hold You (Hold Yuh)” by Gyptian – I am obsessed with this song right now- perfect for a cool down 🙂

Hello! The pumpkin protein oats looks awesome! Please tell me how you prepare it:) Do you cook the oats, or leave them raw? Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2010 at 9:36 am

i cook them and stir in everything else while they’re cooking

      • Ashley on September 26, 2010 at 9:38 am

Thanks! My husband and I just recent tried the Sun Warrior protein and LOVE it!

    That cake looks amazing.
Your posts show up in reader for me – just hours late.

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2010 at 9:45 am

do you know why it does that?? it’s driving me crazy haha

      • jessica on September 26, 2010 at 9:00 pm

I think it’s just a quirk in Google reader. Most of my subscriptions show up late, not just your website.

  4. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on September 26, 2010 at 9:49 am

Your posts show up late for me too — but there are quite a few blogs that do that. I have no idea why! I hope you get it figured out. I know how frustrating technology can be!

I love how thick that PB frosting is — will you be sharing the recipe?

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2010 at 9:55 am

      that’s so weird :/
it’s barefoot contessa, using earth balance for the butter and rice milk for the heavy cream 🙂

      • Dana Marie on September 26, 2010 at 6:56 pm

I like Ina, but I think she needs some Fitnessista in her diet

  5. Leianna on September 26, 2010 at 9:55 am

yeah for pumpkin finally! I made some zucchini, pumpkin, white chocolate chip bread last weekend and loved every minute of it!

  6. LisaG on September 26, 2010 at 10:05 am

I bought out the pumpkin too. Ready to make pumpkin/Ginger bread. Our publix carries it year round. Glad you’re getting your dance fix.

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2010 at 8:16 pm

      YUM.
      i miss you!!!!!

  7. Dana Marie on September 26, 2010 at 10:47 am

that looks fun, but prob easier to just jam out on your own than follow — I’m so bad at learning other people’s steps! omg I really need to get some pumpkin – I don’t know what’s taking me so long this year?

  8. VeggieGirl on September 26, 2010 at 11:14 am

I LOVE Michelle LeMay’s dance workouts!

Dance Trance looks amazing. It needs to come to Toronto!

  12. Kayla on September 26, 2010 at 11:31 am

I am jealous of your cake (Swoon!) and your pumpkin (Our grocers still don’t have any here in Michigan.)… Hope you’re having a good weekend!

  13. Susan on September 26, 2010 at 11:33 am

Hi Gina, yum the pumpkin oatmeal looks delish, I’m going to run to the shops now and buy some pumpkin puree. Just wondering if that is one serving size? Also how much almond milk would I have to use? Thanks so much

  14. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on September 26, 2010 at 11:39 am

Yayyy for pumpkin!! I had pumpkin oats with a carmelized apple the other day. Rocked my socks. Dance Trance sounds so fun, I love the name!

  15. Kristina @ spabettie on September 26, 2010 at 11:59 am

Dance Trance looks like something I would LOOOOVE! 🙂

I made pumpkin oats yesterday, SO tasty yum!

  16. Johanna B on September 26, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I wish I could find classes like these in Topeka. When I was in rehab last month I discovered how much I enjoyed group exercise. I’d probably have to drive to Lawrence, KS which is about a half an hour but it’s a college town (GO Jayhawks) and I’d bet there’s more variety.

  17. Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat on September 26, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Oh, I would love that Dance Trance class!! I wish they had more classes like that in Minneapolis. For being our state’s biggest city and all, we need more class offerings!

  18. Laughter-Loving Stacy on September 26, 2010 at 12:30 pm

Oh that seems like a really fun class! I’ve always wanted to take dancing lessons, but when I take one with a gym, it doesn’t feel like dancing, just cardio (if that makes sense). Hopefully I’ll get back into salsa or something soon. 🙂

  19. christina cadden on September 26, 2010 at 12:42 pm

    That cake looks so good!

  20. Shelby on September 26, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I think I’m going to make those pumpkin protein oats for breakfast right now! They look delish!

  21. hippierunner on September 26, 2010 at 1:15 pm

You haaaaaaave to stop posting pics of that cake unless you can share! It looks way too good. 🙂

  22. Whitney on September 26, 2010 at 1:17 pm

That dance class looks like fun! I would probably be awkward and clumsy in a traditional dance class, but if it’s more club moves, I might be good at that!

  23. Beth on September 26, 2010 at 1:44 pm

That Trance Dance looks so fun! Given that I’m in California and they only seem to be in the eastern US, I wish they would make a dvd, though I’m guessing they won’t since the lights/music seem to be such a big part of it for them.

    Sorry I can’t help with the techno-problems!

  24. Sana on September 26, 2010 at 2:31 pm

I would love to take a dance class like that! I think there is one near me!

  25. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 26, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Oh so sorry about the tech issues and various crap! I think your posts show up pretty much on time in my google reader. However it’s weird, I have myself subscribed to my own posts in reader two different ways, one typing in my full URL and one using the subscribe button widget I have installed on my blog and sometimes they will show up hours apart. Google reader is it’s OWN weirdness. Trust me.

ABout 2 weeks ago there were TONS of posts ‘reader was “eating” around the ‘sphere. I was reading tons of blogs where people were bitching about it, both wordpress and blogger blogs, and then it ate one of my posts, i.e. it never made it into reader. So you may not be alone on that. Seems better the past few days though.

I do know a woman who does great graphic design and web stuff. Not sure if she’s a straight-up webmaster but she’s awesome. No, she hasnt done my site b/c I am still not ready to migrate to WordPress but she’s super responsive, i.e. 10:30pm on Fri nite i emailed her and she emailed me back 5 mins later.

Email me if you need her info 🙂

The dance class = right up your alley!

The cake = right up my alley!

    🙂

    That sounds so much fun!

  27. Libby on September 26, 2010 at 3:34 pm

The glitches in your blog may have to do with your internet browser. I know Google Chrome has been super glitchy with subscribing to ANY blog recently. I switched over to Camino last night (Firefox and facebook chat aren’t great friends either) and so far so good.

    • Fitnessista on September 26, 2010 at 8:13 pm

      good to know, thank you!

  29. RhodeyGirl on September 26, 2010 at 5:16 pm

    Jealous of that class!!!!

  30. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on September 26, 2010 at 5:41 pm

I gotta go find pumpkin! I had 1 can leftover from last year that I’ve already gone through, but I’ve not found any yet this year. Keeping my fingers crossed it on my local grocery store shelves!

  31. Aylin on September 26, 2010 at 6:12 pm

that image of the pumpkin protein oats has been dancing around in my mind all day! that dance class is right up my alley. i need some hardcore club beats to get my booty moving–on the treadmill i occasionally throw in a move or two in between mouthing the words to whatever song is blasting from my ipod. a true sight to behold (crazy girl on treadmill 4). have you ever tried a belly dancing class? thanks for the awesome blog!

  32. fittingbackin on September 26, 2010 at 6:20 pm

um awesome! Loved the video – dance trance seriously looks like a blast. Very cool – going to see if I can find something similar around here. I’m REALLY missing dance. 🙁

  33. Alice on September 26, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Wow those oats look delish! I wish we had canned pumpkin here in Aus. I am always drooling over your pumpkin creations in America!!!

Listening to that song now – thankyou!!! I am alwyas looking for new motivating work out songs!

  34. CaSaundra on September 26, 2010 at 7:17 pm

I could have easily done away with that cake 🙂

  35. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 26, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Dance fitness classes look like such a blast, but I don’t know if I could ever do them. I am terrible at being able to watch someone and copy their moves. 😛

  36. Liz on September 26, 2010 at 7:38 pm

Here is the website of a really good friend that does website design/tech stuff: http://copyleftdesign.com/index.php/services/index/

I’ve referred him to countless people and he’s awesome! I’m not sure if he’s taking new clients now, but never hurts to ask!

Hmmmm what host are you using now?? Hostgator is da bomb and always works beautifully!

that dance class looks awesome. i’m gonna look for something like there in atlanta. oh man, that’s exactly what i would enjoy.

  39. Lissy on September 27, 2010 at 9:36 am

I wouldn’t be too concerned about your posts showing up in google reader late, that could just be a google thing, but you need a working subscribe button! It’s complaining it can’t parse the xml. It looks like because you have four lines of white space before your feed starts.
    I found this:

If you need help, let me know

  41. Jolie on November 28, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Omg Gina! I am Jamaican and Gyptian’s song, “Hold Yuh” is a hit in my country! I am so pleased to see you refer to my country even though it was in an indirect way! Woot, woot! #happy dance
