Crackers Make it Better

Hey guys! Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend so far 😀

After I finished up my last training appointment, I did some more reading on the elliptical and came back to the casa. The plan was to go to the movies with the girls, but when I found out the pilot would be home soon, I decided to opt out and chill with the hubby. An hour after the movie would have started, the pilot called back saying he would be home late.

I wasn’t a happy camper.

So I did what any girl would do in my situation: took a shower and brought out the crack

Mug shot:

005

The puppies, judging me:

002

I read for a while, the pilot FINALLY came home, we watched Definitely, Maybe (I LOVE that movie… and Ryan Reynolds) and then I decided I should have some *real* dinner

Egg white puff

007

And leftover roasted veggies from girls night

006

All covered with red chili flakes 😀

I had a miserable headache last night, so I crashed out pretty early and overslept (again, haha) for this morning’s run.

I had a lovely mango:

009

A baby Ezekiel with some AB:

010

And hit up the gym with the pilot for a lovely run.. which was surprising since I’m not a huge treadmill fan.

Here’s what I did: (based off this workout)

Treadmill workout

Time Incline Speed
0:00-5:00 2.5% 4.0
5:00-10:00 2.5% 6.0
10:00-10:20 2.5% 7.5
10:20-11:20 2.5% 5.5
11:20-11:40 2.5% 7.5
11:40-12:40 2.5% 5.5
12:40-13:00 2.5% 7.5
13:00-17:00 2.5% 5.5
17:00-27:00 2.5% 6.0
27:00-31:00 2.5% 5.5
31:00-35:00 2.5% 6.0
35:00-39:00 2.5% 5.5
39:00-43:00 2.5% 6.0
43:00-50:00 2.5% 5.5
50:00-55:00 2.5% 4.0
55:00-60:00 2.5% 3.5

*The incline makes ALL the difference in the world.. it’s always a good idea to have some incline on there (I prefer 2.5%)—it more accurately simulates the natural incline of running outdoors and will enable you to run more quickly when you’re not on the treadmill (like in a race).

Followed by some amazing stretching 😀 It was a pretty awesome cardio workout and my average heart rate was in the 150s.

After cardio, we came back to the casa and I had a sludge:

012

It had pineapple, banana, spinach, coconut water, Vega smoothie infusion, sea salt, vanilla extract and Stevia. It was the perfect post-run drink 😀

Now I’m going to take a lil nap, meet Jeni at the gym for legs and then some shopping.

Have a happy Saturday!

xoxo,

G

  11. Lauren on August 1, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Wow, what a great treadmill workout! I know what you mean about the incline, it's such a killer, but toatlly worth it.

I have trouble running routinely with an incline because it seems to kill my calves. I get the worst knots in my calves when I run consecutively with an incline.
Do you have any advice to avoid this?

Hope you have a great weekend!

  12. The Pilot on August 1, 2009 at 4:54 pm

    Sorry, baby! I love you!!!

  19. Jennie in Wonderland on August 1, 2009 at 7:39 pm

Hey Gina, how do you make those egg white puffs? Is it just like an omelette?

  20. The Real Yvette Lee on August 1, 2009 at 7:51 pm

As I was scrolling thru your treadmill stats I noticed the consistent incline and decided I would post a question asking why 2.5. And, of course, there was your explanation ready and waiting for me.

    Your awesome!

That's such an awesome treadmill workout – I KNOW that will kick my butt!!! It's so weird because I can run 13 miles and not be out of breathe, yet running for an hour at that intensity and elevation would be exhausting! Thanks for posting it!

  25. Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) on August 1, 2009 at 9:36 pm

I love Definitely Maybe!!! And Crack! My Pilot and I were talking about you over Herdez salsa this afternoon. He thinks your raw food culinary adventure is going to be so cool! I agree.

Hope you are having a great night sister!

  26. Healthy Beach Bum on August 1, 2009 at 10:38 pm

That mango looks gorgeous! I have to be careful opening up crackers because I end up eating an entire package of them in one sitting! They are just so darn tasty lol.

That is such a cute movie-especially with Mister Reynolds in it <3

Your blog is great Gina! Your recipes and workouts all look fabulous, I was wondering if you can recommend a good cooking book? I have all of Tosca Reno's books and I'm trying to eat clean here.

Hey, I know you said that you reall like Natalia rose's book…which would you recommend buying? I'm thinking about getting the newest one, but wasn't sure if you thought that it'd be important to read one of her first two books first?
    Thanks!

Love that treadmill workout. I've got it saved so I can give it a whirl!

  37. WholeBodyLove on August 2, 2009 at 11:41 pm

It's so hard when our hard working guys have unpredictable arrival times! When I ask Mallard what time he will be home, I take his answer lightly. Not because he would ever mean to be late, he just can't predict his work. Puppies make great company though. I'm convinced my puppies really enjoyed our movie nights :)What a girl will do for love! You know they look forward to coming home to our smiling faces 🙂

    Hahaha….

Mom- “So, what workout are you gonna do today?!”
    Me- “HIIT!”
    Mom- “*concerned tone* what?..”
    Me- “..HIIT!”
    Mom- “What’s that?”
    Me- “High Intensity Interval Training.”
Mom- “Ooo…that sounds hard. I was gonna ask if I could do your workout with you today, but I don’t think I’d be able to keep up..”
Me- “Dude, I don’t even know if I’m gonna be able to do it myself.”

Haha, well, I’m off to the gym to try this treadmill workout! I’m actually realllyy scared..but I’ll report back to you on how it goes! Do you still follow the carb/protein rule post-workout for pure cardio too? Or is there something else you recommend?

    • Fitnessista on July 28, 2010 at 8:08 pm

let me know how it goes!!!
yup, carbs + protein 🙂 electrolytes too
