Crazy Kids

Hiiii 😀 How’s your night going?

Today was an amazing day. I had the chance to be trained by the incredible Louis Van Amstel (from Dancing with the Stars) again. We had another LaBlast training this afternoon (with more advanced choreography), and I’d been looking forward to it all week 🙂 We danced for about 5 hours and it was amazeballz, as could be expected. I learned so much, and am very lucky to work with and have the opportunity to be trained by so many talented and passionate people.

It also doesn’t hurt that Louis is REAL, charming and kind.. and has certain ways of explaining things. Example: “If you have an a$$, shake it.” 😀 I’m a fan.

When I got home, I was ferociously hungry, so the Pilot and I met up with the fam for La Parrilla.

Soup, frijoles + a thousand chips with green salsa? Yes please.

After dinner, we did what all the crazy kids do: went to Lowe’s.

Where else can you find a statue that looks like Viesa and human-sized boot planters?

Or a fridge that you can tweet from, listen to Pandora, check weather and surf the internet for recipes?

Just in case your phone or computer were too far away from you… 😉

It’s funny because since my dad designs and builds custom houses, when I was little every weekend was a  massive shopping trip at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I HATED those stores. I remember being pretty young and my dad was pushing me around on one of those flat carts (in the 80s, child safety was a little different.. like riding in a bucket seat on the back of your parent’s bike?) and I cried because I did not want to be there.

Now that we have a house, I actually like Lowe’s. I never thought I would say that 😉

We’re just gonna lay low tonight- it’s been a crazy week.

Hope you have a great night and I’ll see ya in the morning <3

xoxo

When I would visit my husband at MCAS Yuma, we would walk around Home Depot and plan our future house. And also laugh at the desert style of decorating, such as giant boot planters 🙂

  2. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on August 7, 2011 at 12:44 am

I love those boot planters, LOL. So awesome.

Dancing is great exercise! You must have had a (La) blast! 🙂

Oh my goodness! want to know something crazy?! I grew up at a dance studio in utah (Center Stage Performing Arts studio) and trained with Louis! I took ballroom classes from him! small world!

    • Fitnessista on August 7, 2011 at 12:51 am

      isn’t he awesome?!

  5. Sarah @TheExpatBride on August 7, 2011 at 12:46 am

  6. Sara K on August 7, 2011 at 12:51 am

Can I just say that is the most awesome fridge ever! I actually can’t wait till I have enough of an income/own a place of my own that I can get that kind of stuff

  7. Jackie Smith on August 7, 2011 at 12:53 am

I don’t know. That fridge is pretty awesome. 🙂

  8. Kathleen on August 7, 2011 at 12:58 am

To me Lowe’s is easier to take than Home Depot. Lowe’s is more of a home improvement, gardening, “making your house pretty” store where as Home Depot is a “Your garbage disposal is broken, we have what you need to fix it, and here! Rent a tile saw, or a bobcat, or any other tool you could ever need, ever” and lumber… so much lumber.

oh my god your so cute! Love it.

    Louie! He’s a doll 🙂 I love DWTS.

I love the look of your new site as well. I haven’t been here in a while.

I get to see Louis at the IDEA world fitness convention next week! Im so excited! Will you be there? would love to meet you in person 🙂

What an awesome opportunity– you lucky duck 🙂

  13. Holly @ The Runny Egg on August 7, 2011 at 6:14 am

Those boots are awesome — but they don’t quite replace that awesome Buddha fountain, eh?

I used to hate grocery shopping with my parents and now I love it — but that goes for plenty of household chores/errands — once it is for YOUR house, it can be fun!

  14. Aine @ Something to Chew Over on August 7, 2011 at 6:25 am

I’m exactly the same, hated those stores when I was younger and you can’t drag me away from them now!

    Enjoy your Sunday 🙂

  15. Emma @ Microcosm of Life on August 7, 2011 at 8:14 am

I totally had the same change in my feelings about Lowe’s-type stores. When I was younger, it was, “Holy hell, get me out of here! How boring can you get!?”

Now that I am decorating my own place, it’s “Oh my gosh. I can get ANY kind of faucet and toilet seat i WANT? This is awesome!”

  16. Jennifer on August 7, 2011 at 8:43 am

I just bought a house (woo!) and my mum and sister have been telling me how much I’m going to love Lowes now that I’m a homeowner. I currently find it incredibly boring. 🙂

  17. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 7, 2011 at 8:50 am

Girl I still hate Lowes and Home Depot. I also hate Costco and Ikea.

Well, I should say, I have a love/hate relationship with them…they are soooo big. And you walk and walk forever and ever. And get lost!

And I tend to buy things I would never have thought I “needed”.

But they have everything AND have good deals…so in that sense, I love em 🙂

  18. Krysta on August 7, 2011 at 8:56 am

I’m right there with you! I spent a Saturday evening at Lowe’s picking out paint!

  19. Blake on August 7, 2011 at 9:04 am

I used to love going to Home Depot with my dad on Saturday morning for one simple reason: someone was always outside the store selling donuts.

  20. Errign on August 7, 2011 at 9:14 am

I was also one of those kids on the weekend trips to Lowe’s and Home Depot and hated it…and now I have a summer job there, and surprise! I still hate it 🙂 hahaha.

  21. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on August 7, 2011 at 10:07 am

I have grown to LOVE Lowe’s now that I own my own home. When my hubs was deployed it was amazing how many times I ended up there – and I learned quite a bit too! Haha…You know you’re growing up when going to Lowe’s is in your plans 🙂

5 hours of dancing – I am sure you were famished by the time you were done!

  22. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 7, 2011 at 10:09 am

I feel like we’re in Lowe’s or Home Depot at least 1x per week and I’ve never seen those planters! How amazing are they!? haha

  23. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on August 7, 2011 at 10:12 am

I totally hear you on those stores. I DESPISED those stores as a little kid…and honestly even up through high school. Now that I’m a homeowner my fiance and I are there alot….and I actually kinda like it. Never thought I’d say that!

  24. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on August 7, 2011 at 10:57 am

That fridge seems a bit ridiculous. lol. I can’t even imagine what I would tweet from that…perhaps “I’m getting a glass of water right now.” 😛

  25. Emily on August 7, 2011 at 10:59 am

I was having the same feeling you’re having about Lowe’s last night at the grocery store; I remember hating being dragged there as a kid and now I get excited about grocery shopping!

  26. Liz on August 7, 2011 at 11:42 am

I have a special place in my heart for Home Depot after working there as a cashier for 3 months during a college summer. We had a big Lowe’s rivalry and even though I actually think Lowe’s might be nicer, I can’t help but feel a little cantankerous towards the stores when we pass them!! So silly!

  27. Michelle on August 7, 2011 at 11:43 am

Oh my God, your story of your dad pushing your around on those flat carts cracked me up – I have the SAME memory from my childhood! When he finished our basement when I was little, we were there every single weekend. I would cry, kicking and screaming as he dragged me into the store, and the only way he could get me to stop crying was to push me around on that thing and go running up and down the aisles at full speed. Ha ha. I remember sitting on top of a bunch of drywall sheets, just laughing my ass off 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 7, 2011 at 3:34 pm

hahah! i’m so glad i’m not the only one 🙂

  28. Leslie Wingate on August 7, 2011 at 11:53 am

This is why I like this blog so much. You are REAL. I try to eat well a majority of the time now. Yesterday, we went to Jason’s Deli. I had an awesome salad followed by banana pudding. LOL It was my cheat, and now I’m over it. I love that this site is dedicated to wholesome foods and not so 150% extreme to the point of burnout.
That frig totally freaks me out, btw. lol

  29. Christine @ BookishlyB on August 7, 2011 at 11:58 am

I feel the same way about “grown up stores” right now. I caught myself looking at washers and dryers online the other day and ogling someone’s hose storage bowl- what is happening to me?!?!?!

  30. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on August 7, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Wow– that refrigerator kind of scares me!!! And…I’m sure I’ll have one in five years, like everyone else 🙂

  31. Nicole on August 7, 2011 at 12:21 pm

That fridge is crazy! Haha! Being a single gal, I’ve spent my fair share of time at Home Depot for this, that and the other thing when something breaks or needs replacing. The only time I really enjoy it though is when I’m in the gardening section. I once spent over $100 on flowers to plant in pots :s

  32. chelsea on August 7, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Ah my boy-friend goes to Loews and home depot so much ha! From the moment I step inside I just can’t wait to get out of there.

  33. Shayla @ The Good Life on August 7, 2011 at 12:48 pm

Ha I love this! As a kid I always used to go to Home Depot and places like that with my parents since they were in construction and interior decorating, and I used to hate it! And now that I’m married and own a home, I am in love with all things home related. The other day I was having a field day in Bed Bath & Beyond…10 years ago, even 5, that wasn’t the case at all! 🙂

  34. Niki on August 7, 2011 at 1:17 pm

My best friend and I have a joke about making a refrigerator with a martini button. It’d be the most perfect appliance……

    • Fitnessista on August 7, 2011 at 3:41 pm

      that’s a great idea 🙂

  35. Chelsa on August 7, 2011 at 2:20 pm

Lowe’s still bores me unless I’m going to look at fun stuff like appliances of course. The refrigerator is pretty silly!

  36. Kaolee Hoyle on August 7, 2011 at 2:36 pm

Not sure if you know this, but I was just reading the August Redbook mag & they mentioned your blog 🙂 Page 88.

    • Fitnessista on August 7, 2011 at 2:57 pm

a twitter friend let me know, and i actually had the magazine in our room, yet to be read! very cool stuff 🙂 thanks for letting me know, too

  37. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 7, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Those boots are insane. Who would buy those? I feel you on the repressed childhood home reno store memories, I share your pain my friend.

  38. Sana on August 7, 2011 at 6:45 pm

My childhood was the same, my dad loved DYI projects and I loved the big carts!

  39. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 7, 2011 at 7:17 pm

I still hate going to Home Depot! 😛 But I could spend hours in somewhere like Crate and Barrel!

  40. Laura @ Backstage Balance on August 7, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Your Lowes photos crack me up – you should totally get the boot planters!
I used to work at a Midwest home improvement chain called MENARD’S and absolutely loved it! Our staff was all college-aged kids, everyone was awesome and we would all hang out after work. The smells of sawdust and lawn fertilizer bring back happy memories, haha.

  41. Becky on August 11, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I used to HATE those home improvement stores as a kid too! But I did love riding around on the flat cart thingy 🙂
