Let’s see, what’s been going on since I last saw your lovely faces?

I worked yesterday,

and when I got home, we made a fort with our comforter and watched Elmo with Liv inside our makeshift tent.

The Pilot put Livi to bed and I joined some friends for a hot yoga class. There were 10 of us in our little group!

[an old pic from a yoga date]

I’m pretty sure last night was the only time I’ve fallen on my face in a class. This is why even though I can do a headstand, I don’t usually do them in class. I’m SO afraid of toppling over and creating a yoga domino effect. I did an arm balance on one side and, word to the wise, it doesn’t always work out the same way on the other side. At least I didn’t have far to fall?

After class, I joined some girlfriends for dinner and sangria. Not a bad Wednesday night 🙂

I’ve seen this survey floating around the blog world in the past couple of months. While I’m not really a survey blog person, it’s something I enjoyed reading, so I thought I’d share my own little rendition. I’d love to read some of your answers, too!

Current book(s):

I mentioned it recently, but I’m 100% sucked into And the Mountains Echoed. I’m already looking for my next book since I have a feeling that I won’t be able to wait longer than a couple of nights to finish this one. On the radar: Gone Girl, Proof of Heaven (I’ve read half but took a break), and Quiet (since I’m an introvert, I’m particularly intrigued by this one).

Current music:

I’ve been listening to the Macklemore album (“Same Love” and “Castles” are my favorites) and right now I’m digging anything Calvin Harris for workout/life. When my iPod is on shuffle, things like this tend to happen, too….

Happy tappin

Hashtag mom life 😉

Current guilty pleasure:

Chocolate chips straight from the bag to my mouth.

Current nail color:

They were army green this week, but started to chip last night so I took the polish off. Naked nails for now, sand color on my toenails:

Current drink:

Water with cucumber slices and mint from our little garden. My friends at work call it my “water salad”

Photo 102

Current food:

Anything grilled! I especially love the Pilot’s famous turkey burgers with sweet potato fries and salad.

Burger

Current favorite show:

I haven’t been watching TV much at all lately. Still need to finish Season 3 of Downton, but sadly, E! ruined the season finale for me. Sad trombone.

Current wish list:

A new black maxi skirt. I accidentally put mine in the dryer, and it’s now a capri skirt.

Current need:

A haircut! Things are looking a little shaggy, and twisty bangs is happening on an almost-daily basis. (Madre was sick so there was no way I was going to ask her to cut my hair during that time. I have a tentative appointment for next week, and in a month or so, I’m chopping it off, Guiliana style).

Current indulgence:

The above chocolate chip cookies that my friend Susan made. You could taste the butter in them, and they wrapped my soul in a blanket of happiness.

Photo 103

(With aforementioned water salad; sweet potatoes with chives and butter from the work cafe; quinoa, chicken and veggies from home; and a side of foot fitness lecture notes)

Current blessing:

Every day I wonder how I got so lucky.

Tom and livi

Current outfit:

Work uniform, which is a lulu tank and black lulu shorts.

Current excitement:

Our cousins are moving here from Key West in a little over a week. We’re so excited for them to be in Tucson and for Livi to get to grow up with her little girl cousins 🙂

So tell me friends: what’s something you’re excited about right now?

Current nail color and blessing?

Summer Shape Up girls (and guys!) don’t forget to check in with today’s workout! How’d it go?

I’m currently excited about a new psychology research worker job – literally just got off the phone having been told I was successful!
I’m lucky enough to just be generally blessed at the moment – fab boyfriend, fab friends, I live in London (awesome place to live!), fab workout schedule (thanks Summer Shape Up ;)) and now a fab new job. Life is pretty awesome.

Oh and my current nail colour is clear – using a Sally Hansen nail growth formula to try and get my stumps to turn into proper nails! Grow damn you nails, grow! xx

Gone Girl is so worth reading! I havent been that hooked to a book in a long time. My current blessing is my husband. Were having so much fun fixing up our house together! All my nails are naked right now, I think I’m long overdue for some color on my toes.

If you’re looking for a good book, give Life After Life a try (by Kate Atkinson). I’m in the middle of it right now, and it has totally sucked me in. Current blessing: after six years of long distance, my fiance and I are FINALLY living in our first place together. We are loving life : )

Summer Shape Up has been amazing so far! Loving Workout #2! I’m planning on hitting up the gym right after work to complete it then heading home for some much needed Friday night relaxation time with a few glasses of wine and some yummy food 🙂 Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication, Gina! Happy Friday!

My nails are currently naked, but I am planning on changing that by tomorrow!

  6. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on June 14, 2013 at 9:51 am

I did this a couple weeks ago! I’m so happy to see more of them- it’s so interesting to learn about those small details in other people’s lives.

Today I’m excited to fly home after a week of traveling for work!

  7. Shaina Anderson on June 14, 2013 at 9:57 am

I love making water salads! My current favorite combo: watermelon and mint. And thanks for the Sesame Street Pandora idea…I was getting a little sick of Disney songs (and I LOVE Disney movies haha). #momproblems? 😉

something I’m excited about: we just started trying for baby #2 and Tripp & I are making a trip back east in August to visit my grandparents in FL and then my parents/siblings in VA. (I’m also slightly terrified of flying with a very mobile toddler who is no longer nursing, but I’m just going to concentrate on the excited part.)

current nail color: naked fingers and Essie’s Smokin’ Hot on my toes. I rarely put nail polish on my fingers because it chips so fast. When we have a wedding or something to go to, I splurge for the gel color so it lasts.

current blessing: my healthy, active, almost-13-month-old little MAN! He looks like a little man! Where did our babies go?!

  8. Shannon on June 14, 2013 at 10:24 am

Almost finished Proof of Heaven started reading it after my sister passed away last year, so enlightening and a definite must read!

Just started back running at first I was terrified but now I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things! Love your blog been following you since 2009!

    Have a great weekend!

  9. kyla on June 14, 2013 at 10:24 am

I’m excited for a new phase in my life, employment!!! I’m finally going to be working as a dietitian!!!

  10. Aleisha on June 14, 2013 at 10:29 am

Nail color is plain ol’ nude. I am super excited about going for pedicures tomorrow!
My current blessing is my 15 month old son 🙂 listening to him learn new words and the hugs and kisses I get bring a smile to my face!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Anxious to start week 3 Summer Shape up!

I read Quiet about a month ago and loved it. I’m a complete introvert too and it’s so nice to feel understood sometimes! The first part was a little bit hard for me to get into because Cain begins by discussing introverts in the business and finance world, but if I remember correctly that won’t be too far off base for you? I’d love to hear what you think about it!

  12. Siobhan on June 14, 2013 at 10:47 am

Summer Shape up went well yesterday! I even tried your new 2,4,6,8,10 video after…little sore today haha but totally worth it! Love the video and both challenging work outs. Thank you for creating both!…I’m also interested in the book you mentioned above, Quiet. I haven’t heard of it before but I’ll definitely look into it. I’ve been looking for interesting summer reading.

  13. Catie on June 14, 2013 at 10:59 am

My nails are naked but my go to color is always some shade of coral. I’m long overdue for a pedicure.

What’s makes me excited right now? My coworker Kim. She’s adopting a 13 year old dog from our local humane society. Kim and her family are amazing and I’m so glad this pooch will have a great place to live the rest of his life.

    • Stacey on June 14, 2013 at 3:58 pm

      How great 🙂

I’d adopt every old pup at the shelter if I a) had room and b) could afford it! They seem to get left out the most.

  14. Kelly on June 14, 2013 at 11:23 am

I love me some turkey burgers and sweet potato fries! I also just got my first lulu order EVER in the mail yesterday and I am in LOVE!

  15. Shannon on June 14, 2013 at 11:25 am

Excited about summer and reading at the beach! I’m currently reading 1Q84, and it’s not my usual type of book, but it has me hooked.
Nail color…nothing, but I’m getting a pedicure after work, hooray! I’m thinking a pastel green.
And my current blessing? My job. I have a great mentor and so many great opportunities. I feel so lucky to have found my place here especially when so many are down and out right now.

To those of you who are struggling just remember to hang in there, your opportunity is ahead. Patience is SO important!

  16. Sarah on June 14, 2013 at 11:30 am

I’m reading about four books right now, but hopefully I can wrap a couple up and start with the summer fluffy reads 🙂
Nails on the hands are currently naked, but my toes are minty green. I thought it might make my feet look a little corpse-like but luckily not. Current blessing is definitely that the hubs is finally able to go back to work after 2 years off due to several (failed) back surgeries. Finally had one work and it’s off the to races! There are no words for the relief we’re both feeling right now. The fur child probably won’t be very pleased though 😉

  17. Annie @ Annie Get Your Run on June 14, 2013 at 11:36 am

I decided to do the survey too! And mine also includes Gone Girl. Loving it so far!

  18. Meredyth on June 14, 2013 at 11:36 am

Quiet by Susan Cain is a fantastic book! As a fellow introvert, I felt like someone finally articulated what I’d been trying to communicate to my extroverted friends and colleagues. I work in theatre, so you can imagine extroverts are everywhere. This book is great for introverts, but I’d also recommend it to extroverts, so they can understand the introverts in their lives. Susan’s TED Talk is awesome too.

So far in my summer reading, I’ve devoured Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, Mindy Kaling’s book, Wild by Cheryl Strayed and some fun young adult lit. Happy reading!

  19. Rachel on June 14, 2013 at 12:29 pm

checking in for SSU! i did workout #2 + HIIT this morning and it killed me in the best way possible! sweaty and happy and all that jazz. all-in-all, the whole workout was just about an hour, which is perfect. looking forward to a nice, long, run tomorrow for steady state. thanks, gina!

  20. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on June 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm

I LOVE Same Love by Macklemore. The video is so good.

Something I’m excited about: find a wedding venue! We just got engaged a few weeks ago and we just saw our first venue last night. Tonight we’re attending a friends wedding and then tomorrow we’re touring 2 more places. Weddings galore haha.

My toe nails are mint green! My nails are nekkid, but they will be painted after work… perhaps purple to match the dress I’m wearing.

    Happy Friday <3

  21. Sarah on June 14, 2013 at 1:08 pm

current nail color: Havana Nights by Sephora OPI (a lovely pale blue.)

blessing: The Supreme Court ruling in favor of releasing the rights to the BRAC1 & BRAC2 gene mutation testing (for breast cancer & ovarian cancer screening.) Whooo Hoooo!!!!!!! Huge big deal. I can now go get tested without paying $4,000+ out-of-pocket AFTER insurance. One huge leap for women – YES.

  22. Tracy on June 14, 2013 at 2:01 pm

Super excited for our basement renovation to start on Tuesday! We’ll finally have a great place for my kids to hang with their friends. Love it when they hang out at OUR house!

Nail color = clear and boring. Hoping to change that this weekend though.

I read the book Quiet and LOVED it. As an introvert, it made me feel justified for the way I feel in many situations. A very good read indeed. I think it would be good for my husband to read as well so he can understand me better!

  23. Sandra on June 14, 2013 at 2:11 pm

Oh my goodness E! TOTALLY ruined the season finale of Downton for me too! I was SO MAD! I tried to un-see it and erase it from my mind for several hours afterwards but it didnt work 😉

Also – you have articulated the reason I am always a bit nervous to go to yoga classes in a stuido (vs a dvd). I just seem to have off days where I cant find my balance at all and end up falling flat on my face out of the simplest poses. I dont know what it is!

  24. Christina on June 14, 2013 at 2:49 pm

As a fellow introvert, I highly recommend Quiet. It explains a lot about certain feelings of disconnect and nonbelonging, that we experience in a society that praises and rewards extroversion. Good read!

  25. Jill on June 14, 2013 at 2:59 pm

Hi Gina. I’m just curious – should we have gotten a SSU email today with our work-out plan for next week? I didn’t get one and just wanted to make sure that I didn’t fall off the list for some reason. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on June 14, 2013 at 3:23 pm

you will get it late tonight. everything else is done, but i haven’t taken and edited the workout pics yet

      • Fitnessista on June 14, 2013 at 4:26 pm

let me know if i can send you anything else in the meantime!

  26. april on June 14, 2013 at 3:47 pm

oh i LOVE giuliana’s hair! i think you could definitely pull off her new chopped ‘do! 🙂

my current nail color – strawberry margarita by OPI (so fun and summery), but unfortunately my nails are now completely chipped. my current blessing – getting to spend 3 nights on catalina island with my family this week. it reminded me of just how blessed i am to have such wonderful parents and the coolest brother ever. <3

  27. Shari on June 14, 2013 at 4:04 pm

I am excited because I am doing the color vibe 5 k this weekend!! My first 5 k!

I love Livis hair in that pic, too cute!

  29. Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian on June 16, 2013 at 8:04 am

It must be very cute/funny to see those Elmo songs come up when you’re listening on random 🙂 Those cookies look delicious and I love the idea of the “salad water”.

  30. Elyse @ fitness, food & engineering on June 17, 2013 at 10:02 am

You are so very lucky <3 I pray that someday my life looks something like this too 🙂

  31. Julie on June 17, 2013 at 12:25 pm

Ha ha I fell on my face in yoga class a month or so ago trying to do the bird pose. I held it for a legit 2 seconds before my faceplant tho, so I was stoked! 🙂 When I was a kid, I literally did the domino effect during my dance recital while trying to do a headstand – fell over & knocked over the 2 girls next to me. Womp womp!

  32. Lyndsay on June 19, 2013 at 3:20 pm

I just passed my next NASM exam that specializes in training kids! Oh- and I am still super excited that I passed the NASM PT test… in January! 🙂

Any chance we could get that chocolate chip cookie recipe? They look delish!
