Driving Miss Daisy

Hi guys! How are ya?? Hope your Monday has been bueno.

We’re on our way to Hotlanta and tomorrow THE BAHAMAS. I can feel the ocean breeze already 🙂

Check out my seksi driver:

pilot

Oh yes 🙂

Today has kind of been a whirlwind of packing and last minute to-dos but it feels so good to *almost* be in vacay mode. I also went to the library and grabbed some books:

– Freakonomics

– My Sister’s Keeper and

– Julie & Julia

are they any good??

Some of the eats:

Post-Insanity (Core Cardio and Balance) Oats with Vega Protein, banana, and Koala Crispies

oats

Leftover black bean burger accompanied by unpictured sweet potato fries (since they looked less than glam heated on a napkin)

burger

Smoooooothie

smoothie

-other half of Vega protein

-almond milk

-other half of banana

-frozen cherries

-raw cacao powder

-heaping handful of spinach

A bar in the car split with the pilot

bar

(Chocolate Chip Fit bar.. recipe is on the bloggy from yesterday)

And now we’re at a service station and Bella is helping me blog 😉

See ya soon!

xoxo,

Life update: I quit my job as the Lead Fitness Instructor for the base gym yesterday…and it felt really, really good. It was getting to the point where it was too frantic and time-consuming in conjunction with my two other jobs, so I decided to call it quits. Sanity > Money . I’ll still be teaching Zumba but won’t be responsible for hiring/keeping track of the other instructors and making the schedule anymore. I usually HAAAAATE quitting jobs but feel pretty good about this 🙂

Freakonomics is a great book, you’ll love it! I’m reading SuperFreakonomics now! 🙂

    Have a fabulous vacation!

  4. Bekah @ runtrackmind on May 10, 2010 at 5:37 pm

My Sister’s Keeper is way to heavy for a vacation book…you want happy thoughts in the Bahamas. Enjoy! =)

  5. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on May 10, 2010 at 5:40 pm

When I read your tweet I thought you quit teaching all together…I’m glad that isn’t the case! It seems as if teaching some classes makes you happy. Glad you were able to walk away from a job that makes you a little cray cray 🙂

I had to read My Sisters Keeper for summer reading one year–I loved it although some of my male classmates weren’t as thrilled about the choice. Get a box of tissues though!

  6. kellyO on May 10, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Have a fantastic vacay! I need to replace my $ with sanity. My job has become ALL CONSUMING!!

  7. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on May 10, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I hate managing others…I can totally relate! Good for you! 🙂

  8. Alicia on May 10, 2010 at 5:50 pm

I’ve read Julie & Julia and I liked it, but I actually liked the movie better because they incorporated parts of Julia Child’s real life from her autobiography that aren’t in the Julie & Julia book. You’ll enjoy it and it’s a quick read.

  9. Jo on May 10, 2010 at 5:54 pm

I’m with Allie on this one- hope you packed your tissues! I haven’t read the other two books. Hope you have a fab holiday 🙂

Sounds like a great vacation. I love My Sister’s Keeper! It was fantastic. I picked up Julie and Julia this weekend and I plan to read it soon. I’m currently reading Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life and I was crying because I was laughing so hard.

  12. Jordana on May 10, 2010 at 6:14 pm

You are going to cry your eyes out reading My Sister’s Keeper! I havn’t read the other two!

  14. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on May 10, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Congrats on quitting! That’s good that you reduced your workload so that you don’t go bezerko. It’s so important that we find that balance in our lives. 🙂

    Have a kick-butt vaycay!

  15. Karyn on May 10, 2010 at 6:25 pm

i read my sisters keeper and i felt it was “eh”. i think it was because i don’t like that type of genre…i like mystery and thrillers.

and congrats on quitting your job. must be so liberating to put your sanity first! now if only i could find a job hahah…

  21. Katie on May 10, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Hope you have a great trip!

Freakonomics is the only book on your list that I’ve read. It was decent. Definitely makes ya think.

  22. Edith on May 10, 2010 at 7:16 pm

haha Freakonomics is pretty good – as an econ phd student it was MUCH more interesting than most of the economics books out there – most economists tend to be really dry, but that was much better 🙂

  23. Kailey (SnackFace) on May 10, 2010 at 7:23 pm

WOOOHOO BAHAMAS!!!! Never been, but I know you’ll love it.

Julie+Julia the book is better than the movie. I read it in high school or something and adored it!

    Have a safe trip!!

  24. Kat on May 10, 2010 at 7:23 pm

Enjoy the vaca in the sun ….. I wish it was me since it’s snowing right now 🙁
Sanity is always a good thing to keep 🙂 Are the bakery/cafe plans still in place from Feb?

  25. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on May 10, 2010 at 7:33 pm

I LOVED my sister’s keeper… but be prepared to shed some tears! And Julie & Julia is one of my top five faves!

  32. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on May 10, 2010 at 8:19 pm

Have a wonderful vacation! Are you taking Bella with you to Bahamas?( I must have missed it if you said that) Good for you for choosing sanity over money, that’s def the way to go!

  33. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on May 10, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Enjoy your vacay, Gina! And here’s to quitting a job that was stressing you out! Love the choco-fit bars in the last post, and the best vacay Ive been on was 5 weeks in Costa Rica in 2001 getting my 1st yoga teacher credential. The rainforest, the magic of the experience…just amazing.

That said, I’ve been on some pretty incredible Caribbean vacay’s and I wish I was coming with you for a pina colada 🙂

  34. Katherine on May 10, 2010 at 9:07 pm

CONGRATS on quitting; do what you want! reread what you wrote to me; it’s all about happiness. enjoy some nice sunshine

  35. Liza on May 10, 2010 at 9:48 pm

Congratulations on quitting! I’m so glad it makes you feel better. I’m pretty sure it must have felt like a big burden has been lifted off your chest. Doing what makes you happy is always the best thing. 🙂

    ENJOY YOUR VACAY!

  36. Melissa S. on May 10, 2010 at 9:48 pm

    my sister’s keeper is great!

  37. Rachael on May 10, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Quitting can be strangely empowering- I recently left a beloved but crazy hectic job with a non-profit to start yet another non-profit from home…something about having a schedule more on my terms is making me very happy these days.
Freakonomics will give you some interesting ideas and perspectives. I thought it was quirky, but borderline brilliant in how it made heavy concepts seem like common sense. That being said, I’m a self-professed economics and politics slut – I can’t get enough. Info, that is.
    Enjoy your vacation!

  38. Blubeari on May 10, 2010 at 10:00 pm

I loved freakonomics. Julie and Julia was pretty good (I was not a fan of the movie, though)

  39. Allie on May 10, 2010 at 10:11 pm

if you feel good about it, then you definitely made a great choice! have a fabulous trip!

  40. Carolyn @ lovinlosing on May 10, 2010 at 10:11 pm

My Sister’s Keeper is one of the best books I’ve ever read. But it’s not light reading. I refuse to watch the movie because I heard they changed the ending which is just ridiculous.

  41. Anna (munchingmamacita) on May 10, 2010 at 10:19 pm

Congrats on the change! Sometimes you just gotta do what’s best for you. I quit my part-time waitressing job (i’m a full-time student at the U of A REPRESENT ARIZONA!!! woo hooo) to become a Zumba instructor. Even though it is waaaay less pay, I am so much happier. Plus, the waitressing job was eating my soul. I’ve been meaning to make one of your cherry bomb smoothies lately. They look soooo good! <3

  42. Jenna on May 10, 2010 at 10:21 pm

You will love my sisters keeper!!!!

  43. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on May 10, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Oh my goodness, have so much fun in the Bahamas! I’m so jealous, but hopefully we’ll be able to live vicariously through you guys when you post a recap? Please? I need some (virtual) sun!

  44. Mary on May 10, 2010 at 11:03 pm

You’ll like Freakonomics. You were a finance major, right? I was and loved it.

  45. hannah on May 10, 2010 at 11:06 pm

Freakanomics is AWESOME, i’ve read both that and Superfreakanomics! And Jodi Picoult is always good for a vacay even though I get so distressed over the moral dilemmas in every book… she’s amazing though!

have fun 🙂 those choco-fit bars look so delicious, and i can’t wait to see some bahamas pictures! lucky!

  46. Ilana on May 10, 2010 at 11:20 pm

I just discovered two zumba classes near me and I was thinking about you when I pondered where I can fit them into my schedule 🙂
Have a safe and amazing trip!

  47. Paige (Running Around Normal) on May 11, 2010 at 8:51 am

The hiring/firing/interviewing processes can get very sticky. Glad you’re doing what’s right for you.
    Have a safe trip, Gina!

  48. Ian on May 11, 2010 at 9:02 am

I totally understand what you mean about quitting jobs, but good thing it’s different this time 😀

    have a great vacation!

  50. Gillian on May 11, 2010 at 9:23 am

I read My Sister’s Keeper last spring when I was on vacation in Jamaica – I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!! I sat out in the sun (with spf applied) and read and read and read. Then when I would get too hot I would pace back and forth in the pool while still reading – it was like exercise and getting reading in at the same time.. haha! But it is such a good book – I am not a big crier and I cried reading it.
