Fancy sweatpants of the year award: the jumpsuit

Last year, my “fancy sweatpants” was the maxi skirt. This year: the jumpsuit. I’m one in, and already obsessed.

(Tory Burch sandals/ long necklace from the madre)

I ordered this fun printed jumpsuit on Shopbop a couple of months ago, and wasn’t quite sure I’d be able to pull it off. When it arrived, it dragged on the floor (good to know for all of my vertically-blessed friends out there) but showed definitely potential. And by potential, I mean it felt like fancy sweatpants.

Jumpsuit 1 of 1

After a quick trip to the seamstress, they’ve already become a wardrobe staple. I love the facts that jumpsuits can easily be dressed up or down, and that they’re an entire outfit in themselves. Less opportunity for me to mismatch that way 😉 I’m especially loving the cropped varieties that have been popping up, too!

What’s your fave jumpsuit above?? #1 spring wardrobe staple?

I love it! It looks so nice on you! I am not sure I could pull one off, haha.

    • Fitnessista on April 1, 2014 at 7:34 pm

thank you! i totally think you could!

  2. Courtney @ Harness Your Energy on April 1, 2014 at 7:50 pm

Such a cute look! Way fancier than sweatpants but probably even more comfortable! 🙂 I may have to try one of these. My problem is always with the top, I have broader shoulders, so it’s not so cute with super tiny straps… You’ve re-invigorated my quest for the perfect jumpsuit!

  3. Kim @ FITsique on April 1, 2014 at 7:51 pm

You can totally rock that! I feel like I would look foolish but it looks great on you! Totally jealous!

Is this an April Fools Joke?

      erica?

I had an amazing jumpsuit from Anthropologie that I wore once before it shrunk in the wash, even though I followed directions. I felt a little crazy in it, but it was SO comfortable…I think I’m going to need to get another!

    • Fitnessista on April 1, 2014 at 8:07 pm

i love them for spring 🙂 that’s a bummer your anthro one shrunk in the wash

      • Liz @ The Sixth Letter on April 1, 2014 at 8:13 pm

Right?! I know, especially since I had only worn it once! But you’ve inspired me to get a new one – and Forever 21 has so many! I think the key to pulling stuff like this off is confidence!

        • Fitnessista on April 1, 2014 at 8:20 pm

totally!! and yes, forever 21 has some amazing ones 🙂 xoxo

  6. Jenni on April 1, 2014 at 8:02 pm

I love jumpsuits! I don’t have any that have a full pant leg, though. Mine are all short. The full-length version looks great on you! I’ll have to find one for myself. I totally agree with you on how they feel like fancy sweatpants. They’re so easy and effortless, yet somehow (unlike sweatpants) they make you look and feel so put together. Haha. Win!

    • Fitnessista on April 1, 2014 at 8:05 pm

thank you! they’re so comfy, too 🙂

Sorry, I’m a bit distracted by the Disney Pirate Fairy background on your website. If this is a new movie, I’m way into the idea of it. I hope my niece gets on board! As far as the jumpsuit goes, isn’t it a bit awkward to wear with it being all one piece?

    • Fitnessista on April 1, 2014 at 8:40 pm

haha i’m already excited for liv to see it. she LOVES tinkerbell 🙂
and no, not awkward at all! not any more awkward than a maxi dress

  8. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on April 1, 2014 at 8:37 pm

I love the idea of a jumpsuit, but I’m not sure they’d be terribly flattering on me… Might be worth a shot though!

  9. Maggie on April 1, 2014 at 8:39 pm

I love the look of jumpsuits on other people but have never been able to pull them off when I’ve tried them on in stores. At 5’10” with long legs and a short torso they always pull in weird places… 🙁

  10. Clare on April 1, 2014 at 8:55 pm

Cute! I want to get a jumpsuit now! 🙂

  11. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on April 1, 2014 at 8:55 pm

I don’t think I could pull one off but it looks SO cute on you!!

  12. Yaara Leve on April 1, 2014 at 9:25 pm

That looks adorable on you!! I love the print! I think I’d like to try a romper this summer. I saw some really pretty delicate ones in black on revolve.com. I think the brand was dolce vita? I like to stay away from prints though. I’m only 4ft 11in–so anything with prints makes me look bigger–but in you it looks good.

  13. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on April 1, 2014 at 10:12 pm

ahhhhh i love it and need it!!!!!!! so cute babes. how tall are you anyhow!? i don’t know that about you!!!! i really love the green one on the left but that is just cause i always go for that green! it is kind of my colour haha

  14. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on April 1, 2014 at 10:14 pm

i forgot to say… IT LOOKS SO GOOD ON YOU

  15. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on April 1, 2014 at 11:45 pm

You look great in that jumpsuit. I’ve never worn one before, but would love to try. I actually like the Forever21 black and white one the best. So cute!

  16. Pua on April 2, 2014 at 2:50 am

I’d love to get one, but I’m also vertically challenged. Plus, I’m not sure if I can pull it off! Ha! I’m about 14 weeks pregnant… do you think these would work on the vertically and HORIZONTALLY challenged? 🙂

  17. Jodie on April 2, 2014 at 5:02 am

I am too short to pull that off I think. They are cute though. I still love my maxi dresses.

  18. Chrissy @Pinkpolishandrunningshoes on April 2, 2014 at 6:20 am

I love the jumpsuit you’re wearing. I’m short and petite so I always worry about wearing a lot of patterns, which means I’d probably end up buying the very last jumpsuit from Forever 21 in the bluish-gray color, but yours is the one that caught my eye.

  19. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on April 2, 2014 at 6:51 am

Super cute! I’ve been wary of jumpsuits because I’m also on the tall side of petite (5’4″), but you’ve convinced me otherwise!
I’m a big fan of the black one because you could dress it up or down.

  20. Sam @ Better With Sprinkles on April 2, 2014 at 7:29 am

I have no idea if I could actually pull one off, but it looks so comfy!

  21. Liz @ I Heart Vegetables on April 2, 2014 at 7:29 am

You look so cute!! You can definitely pull that off 🙂

  22. Amber / Caleighs Kitchen on April 2, 2014 at 9:28 am

Too cute! I wish I could wear jumpsuits…I’ve got a ways to go before I’d look as adorable as you do in them!

  23. Sabrina on April 2, 2014 at 10:01 am

I have a little black jumpsuit from 2009 that is HOT. I wore it on my honeymoon and that whole summer and was obsessed. Post-kids I haven’t been able to wear it again (yet), but I think this summer will be the summer! I am finally not pregnant or nursing for the first time in 4 years so I’m excited to see what clothes I can wear this summer.

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:16 pm

i know what jumpsuit you’re talking about!! you brought it to san fran right?! it’s GORGEOUS

  24. Sabrina on April 2, 2014 at 10:02 am

PS I LOVE your jumpsuit and that was obviously my original intention was to come here and say that!

  25. Stacey on April 2, 2014 at 10:41 am

I saw Guiliana wearing one when I watched the premiere of their show last night… that’s the first I knew these were a new trend! I think I might not jump on the band wagon though. It was hard enough for me to try the shorts jumpsuit!

  26. Heather on April 2, 2014 at 11:00 am

I’ll be honest, I wish the jumpsuit trend would come to a very quick end. I hate the look. I think you rock the one in the picture better than any I have seen in real life, but in general I think 99% of the people that wear them shouldn’t and they just look silly. A lot of the jumpsuits I see, would look amazing as maxi dresses! I do think the type you are wearing, with the sundress/tank top and the long bottoms is the way to go. I think the jumpsuits/rompers that are shorts look ridiculous!

  27. Carrie on April 2, 2014 at 11:56 am

You look great! I love this look and hope I can pull it off too. I’m still in the postpartum hell of not knowing how to dress my new body, but we’ll see!

  28. Livi on April 2, 2014 at 12:22 pm

You look adorable. I always worry that those don’t look good on a shorty like me, but I’ll definitely give it a try!

  29. Cyndi on April 2, 2014 at 12:34 pm

Looks great, but just not a fan – going to the bathroom and having all this fabric to worry about.

  30. Jen on April 3, 2014 at 9:37 am

what’s it called when it’s a jumpsuit, but with shorts for the bottom, not longer pant legs? shortsuit? short jumpsuit? anyway… i had one of those that i really liked, but lost a bit of weight (a good thing, in my case) and had to give it away. maybe i’ll invest in a new one and try the longer pant leg look! i like the first one, from free people. wish it were forever 21-priced, though, ha.

  31. GiGi Eats on April 5, 2014 at 11:18 pm

I want a jump suit so badly, however, I am short and don’t feel like any of them look good on me! HA! But perhaps I just haven’t found the perfect fit yet!
