First Pump

Kinda looks like “fist pump” Winking smile

Hey friends hey Smile How are you? Hope your morning has been lovely.

Since I was pretty stuffed from cookie dough and a hummus sandwich last night, I just needed a little sumthin’ sumthin’ for dinner.

Tea:

tea

(ginjah!)

and spaghetti squash that my nana donated to the food stash Smile

squash

I topped the pasta squash with TJs marinara sauce and nutritional yeast.

For those of you guys who haven’t tried spaghetti squash or are a little intimidated, it’s super easy.

Just cut off the ends and make a long cut down the middle

clean out the stringy innards and seeds

squash (2)

place face down on a cookie sheet with 1 in of water

bake for about 45 minutes at 375, adding more water about halfway through

squash (3)

shred into pasta-esque strands using a fork and top to your liking Smile

squash (4)

Deeeeelish.

This morning, my work friends and I are doing double workout aerobic classes together, so I packed up a breakfast cookie and this beauty for carbs in between:

goo

It’s MY FIRST BODYPUMP CLASS EVER! I know that Julie, Tina and Katy are fans so I ‘m really stoked about it. From what I gather, it’s a choreographed weights class with a different track for each muscle group. Usually I do the weights thang on my own or with a friend, so it’s definitely new for me to do it in a class setting.

Have you tried BodyPump before?

Other to-dos:

-Make macaroons (I predict a giveaway in the near future…)

-Film 5 minute workout video (we’re doing yoga style this week)

-Start Christmas shopping? Nahh, I work better under pressure Winking smile

Well I’m off to do the workout thang and I’ll see ya later!

xoxo

Gina

I have always been wary of any class called “Bodypump” I know you can’t judge something by its name but…

Back in college I was a les mills instructor. I taught Body Step, Body Combat and Body Pump. After graduation, I couldn’t find a gym close by that offered the classes (i.e. paid for les mills affiliation), coupled with working a 9-5er, I let my certification lapse. I’ve moved to a bigger city, and a few gyms offer body pump, but most have their own “bootleg” version instead of paying for the licensing. Gyms that offer Body Step and Combat are wayyy harder to find, but they were my favorite to teach! So now, my boyfriend has to deal with a reebok step permanently in our living room. I was an instructor for 8 releases, so I just rotate popping the masterclasses in the dvd player every once in a while. Ridin’ solo 6am Body Pump. Hope you enjoyed the class!

I love spaghetti squash! I feel the same way about Christmas shopping…I always leave it to the last minute.

Not a fan of BodyPump. As a trainer, it will be hard to watch it. There isn’t much emphasis on right form, so a lot of people lift weight with questionable form in that class (the classes I went to anyway). And it’s always, always more or less the same moves. Not the best way to get results… Some people really like it though, so if it gets them moving, I still say “why not” 😉

I love Body Pump! However, as a Body Pump instructor, I am probably partial. I will admit there are pros and cons, just like with anything else. I think one of the nice things for people is that they know exactly what they’re going to get (in terms of format and general exercises) once they know how the class goes. Obviously, there is still a lot of variation based on the instructor (personality, experience, etc). In terms of emphasis on form, a good Body Pump instructor will coach and demonstrate proper form. In addition, a good instructor will be able to get the participants to make the necessary adjustments to their form despite the group format of the class. Anyway, I hope you have a blast! If you aren’t too sore tomorrow and want some more, I teach Body Pump at Canyon Fitness (Tanque Verde and Bear Canyon…www.canyonfit.com) at 9:15am tomorrow (Wednesday). First class is free! The invitation is always open 🙂

I really like body pump! I don’t belong to a gym, so haven’t done it in quite sometime, but I think you will really enjoy it. I’m hoping Dance Trance comes to my area!

    • Fitnessista on December 21, 2010 at 5:40 pm

      you will LOVE dance trance

I love Body Pump more than life itself. Kidding, but, it’s the only regimen of strength training that I can stay enthusiastic/ disciplined with.

  17. Allison on December 21, 2010 at 6:19 pm

HOLLER for the upcoming video. I admittedly don’t give yoga a fair chance…but I will SO give it a five-minute chance. 🙂

Never tried body pump. I just tried a couple boot camp classes though!
How do you like the Clif Shot gel?? I like Clif Shot Bloks…and I like the Espresso Love Gu. I should give the mocha gel a shot.

I’ve always wondered how you make spaghetti squash! I really might try it now 🙂

I have done a few body pump classes. After my very first one I swore I would never go back because I could barely walk for 4 days, and had to climb two flights of stairs to our apartment, haha. However, I braved it out and kept going for a while longer :).

  22. Katie G. on December 22, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Would love to see a post about your opinion of Body Pump. I’ve taken it about 10 times…it’s a good class but I feel like I am wasting time with all of the transitions. I work out in the morning or on my lunch break so I always want to get the most out of every workout session. (explains my obsession for spin class) I definitely felt more toned after Body Pump, but wasn’t a huge fan. I need to try it again however my new gym doesn’t offer it. What did you think?

  23. CampingGirl on December 29, 2010 at 9:40 pm

I am a lover of bodypump!! It is my fav class to take at the gym.
