Fit Tuesday

Hey friends 🙂 How’s your day been?

Mine has been superrr productive! I worked on the book proposal for 3 hours and can confidently say it’s halfway done. I’d like to get it out to the world before the Pilot gets home 😉

In addition to writing, I caressed the almond butter jar and took a couple of swims.

ab ab (2)

Yep, I’m giving up almond butter for Lent.

Not ALL nut butters –I’m not made of stone- but no more dips into the nut butter jar and no AB for 40 days. It’s going to be a long Lent 😉 Also, during Lent, I always like to DO something instead of just giving something up. Usually it’s judge less, pray more, be nice, not use the F word when I drive, etc. etc., but this year I’m going to make an effort to volunteer. I don’t volunteer a ton because I’m a busy bee, but I will make time.

In between my legendary writing sesh, I munched some Protein Fluff. This is a new treat, and all you need is: a scoop of protein powder, a little almond milk to thin it out, a spoonful of almond butter and some chocolate. Heat it up and buckle your seatbelt for a foodgasmic frenzy.

In today’s protein fluff, I added some mashed sweet potato.

Before heating up:

fluff

After:

fluff (2)

I know, right? 🙂

Salad beast of the day:

salad

Greens, steamed asparagus, goat cheddar, salmon burger with BBQ sauce and balsamic, berries on the side

Fun dinner waiting for tonight….

lentil

Forget Fat Tuesday.. I’m dubbing it Fit Tuesday and am off to Zumba with besties 🙂

See ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

It would be impossible for me to give up nut butter for 40 days. I can barely give it up for 40 minutes 😉

    • Fitnessista on March 8, 2011 at 7:33 pm

haha i’m right there with ya. it will definitely be a challenge!

  2. rebecca lustig on March 8, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Ooh that fluff looks sooo delish! I don’t celebrate Lent, but if I did it would be so difficult! I have no idea what I’d give up.. Probably frozen yogurt.

  3. Vanessa @ Swift as Shadows on March 8, 2011 at 7:32 pm

Protein Fluff?! =) I just blogged about Kath’s Whipped Banana Oatmeal and mentioned that using the word “whipped” to describe food immediately conjures up images of fluffycloudmarshmallowawesomeness. “Fluff” works in the same beautiful way. Looks like I found tonight’s dessert!

On another note, I can’t do the goat cheese thing. I’ve tried so many times, but it all has that same farm-like taste to me. I read an article about how people taste things differently (i.e., cilantro tastes like soap to some), so maybe that’s my deal. But you always make it look so good! Maybe one day I’ll convert. 😉

Sorry about the excessive italics. HTML did me wrong. =)

      • Fitnessista on March 8, 2011 at 7:34 pm

haha no worries! i’m impressed that you know html. it’s a language i don’t speak 🙂

  4. Jessica on March 8, 2011 at 7:34 pm

they say what you want to give up the least is what you should give up the most… and I’m holding onto dairy for some reason. I haven’t had yogurt in a week but because I told myself I couldn’t have cheese, I’ve literally eaten it wayyy more than I ever did before. But if you can give up AB, I can give dairy! 🙂

  5. Marg on March 8, 2011 at 7:36 pm

I’m giving up something, but not exactly sure yet-chocolate and something else. I love taking up something good too!

  6. Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife on March 8, 2011 at 7:38 pm

I like that…FIt Tuesday 🙂 I wrote about being fit today too, yah! And I guess I had some Protein Fluff today too- I like the name. Congrats on gettin’ half done, that rocks, Gina!!

  7. Amber L on March 8, 2011 at 7:42 pm

OMG I so thought about giving up AB for Lent too! I’m going back and forth though. That will be REALLY tough. But I mean, if YOU can do it, I guess I could????? I mean I’ll still be able to eat cashew butter and other butters, so that’s a plus. ahh stressful just thinking about it lol.

Also, I agree, I like to do something as well as give something up. This year I am going to try and say a short prayer of thanks each night. I try to pray as much as I can, but have become a slacker. I think I’ll have to add to say a prayer everytime I want some AB!!!!!

  8. Jess on March 8, 2011 at 7:44 pm

For Lent, I’m giving up sugar and going to incorporate yoga at least once a week into my workout routines. I forsee some sugar withdrawl in the near future 🙂

  9. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on March 8, 2011 at 7:55 pm

FIT Tuesday! Love it! Mine’s been going famously – I got not one, but TWO workouts in 🙂

  10. Ashlei on March 8, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Congrats on the feature on womens mag!

I’ve also been loving the protein fluff lately. Yum!

  11. Maissa on March 8, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Good luck on giving up almond butter! Love the fit Tuesday! You’ve given me the motivation to go for the run I’ve been putting off for 45 minutes.

  12. Lisa on March 8, 2011 at 8:16 pm

My fam is Italian, so lent has historically been pretty huge for me. I’m not a practicing Catholic anymore, but I usually use lent as an opportunity to try to kick some of my vices.

This lent, I’m giving up chips. I am a chip FIEND. This is going to be a veerrry challenging lent indeed.

  13. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on March 8, 2011 at 8:25 pm

today was a fit tuesday for me, I got to the gym and hit up the treadmill. I like the idea of doing something also, and I think I’m going to try to name why I’m grateful for someone in my life each day…with repeats I think. Good luck giving up the AB tough one!

  14. Joelle on March 8, 2011 at 8:29 pm

I don’t really do the Lent thang BUT I’m giving up on a lot right now to be able to give up my extra lbs and down the road give up my larger clothes 🙂

FIT tuesday – 45mins full body workout and ran/walked up a long steep hill near my house pushing my 4 year old. Egg whites and salsa for breakfast, steamed veggies for lunch and shimps with sweet potato for dindin.

  15. Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete on March 8, 2011 at 8:34 pm

I’m glad you won’t be excluding all nut butters from your life for the next 40 days — that would be incredibly tough!

I like the “don’t use the F word while driving” — I am amazed how pissed off I get when I drive.

  16. Maryann (The Balanced Bean) on March 8, 2011 at 8:51 pm

Fit Tuesday, love it! I am doing the Lent thing, but havent decided what to give up yet!

  17. Laura on March 8, 2011 at 8:59 pm

For Lent this year I’m giving up shopping. Only allowed to buy food and necessary items. I’ve done this before and its really hard but I think it helps to focus on just how really blessed we are which I think is a good mind set for Lent.

Do you know of a good yoga podcast or routine for a morning work out? I was inspired by your article on WomensDay.com to try and become more of a morning person. I don’t normally do yoga in the morning cause I’m always just so stiff and want to find something to get me going!

    • Fitnessista on March 8, 2011 at 11:33 pm

      check out yogadownload.com ! my fave 🙂

  18. Jeana on March 8, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Lent is always a struggle for me, but this year I made the major leap and went for two things:
Not using my credit card for anything AND giving up desserts..tough, I know.

Props to your magazine call out!

  19. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on March 8, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Giving up AB for Lent…hey girl, whatever floats your butter boat 🙂 I think it’s wonderful you’re volunteering. Using less F bombs when I am driving is always on my list…that one made me laugh 🙂

Protein Fluff looks so good! I can’t even detect the sweet potato mixed up in all that other yumminess!

And congrats on both the Women’s Day feature AND your book proposal being half done! WOW!!!

  20. Allison @ Food For Healing on March 8, 2011 at 9:22 pm

i havent honestly thought about lent yet! ill have to figure that out right away.

  21. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on March 8, 2011 at 9:29 pm

I definitely do the Lent thing. I like to promise to DO something rather than give something up, because I can never decide on something to give up that I couldn’t go without. I feel that if I absolutely don’t LOVE what I am giving up, it’s not really a sacrifice…if that makes sense? It takes much more effort on my part to be patient, take time out for other, etc…:-)

  22. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on March 8, 2011 at 9:31 pm

Oy – I’m about to carry Fat Tuesday to a whole new level. 🙂

Protein fluff sounds awesome… will need that after tomorrow’s workout punishment!

  23. Caitlin on March 8, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I am doing the lent thing too- I’m giving up these 3 things:

      amazing- great job!

  25. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on March 8, 2011 at 9:40 pm

I could never give up nut butter. I love it too much! Good luck. I was just talking about it with my friends and I have no idea what I would give up. I love the idea of giving too. I love to volunteer.

  26. Valerie @ City|Life|Eats on March 8, 2011 at 9:47 pm

The protein fluff looks awesome. Congrats on the book proposal 🙂

40 days goes by quickly 🙂

  27. Parita @ myinnershakti on March 8, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Love zumba, even though I know I look like a total fool trying to keep up! 🙂

  28. mindy @ just a one girl revolution. on March 8, 2011 at 9:50 pm

I’m giving up sweets/desserts for Lent and journaling every day.

  29. Tina on March 8, 2011 at 9:51 pm

i am in professional school on a small island with no AB (ALAS!). but i have been hitting the peanut butter jar pretty hard (you know how some times the flavor of the jar is take-it-or-leave-it or foodgasmic? this was a very good one. weird how the same brand differs so much jar to jar). it would probably behoove me to give it up after this miserable week of midterms!

  30. Tina on March 8, 2011 at 9:52 pm

p.s. i don’t really like the separated oily part of the AB. or the effort required to stir it back in. have you come up with any uses for the almond oil???

  31. PB Addict on March 8, 2011 at 9:54 pm

Good luck with giving up almond butter! That protein fluff looks delish.

  32. Raewyn on March 8, 2011 at 9:57 pm

Haha, brave, Gina!! I contemplated pb, which I usually eat daily – I’m out of ab right now. Sadness. 🙁 Good luck!

I think I’m giving up food blogs… 🙁 And yours will the one I miss the most! Plus, I’ll be doing daily Mass/more then just Sunday.

  33. Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten Free on March 8, 2011 at 10:08 pm

So awesome you’re in womens day! Good luck with giving up almond butter!

  34. Alexis on March 8, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I asked my roommates what I should give up and they said to give up staying up so late. That’s what I’m doing 🙂

  35. Amanda Jewell on March 8, 2011 at 10:28 pm

For lent, I am giving up eating out so much (only once a week allowed (for socializing purposes)) & procrastinating on my thesis.
And, despite my crazy schedule, I am going to bring running back into my life, aiming for 1-3x/wk.

  36. Genevieve on March 8, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Thanks, your “fluff” (“so fluffy!”) will be my breakfast tomorrow (different time zones, heh ;)). It seems pretty delicious. And Lent. Sigh. Will be giving up… vino. ;-P Re-sigh. 😉

  37. Toronto Girl West on March 8, 2011 at 10:53 pm

For the first time ever I’m doing the Lent thing this year . . . and I’m giving up bread, pasta, and rice! Dear God give me strength!!! Because I love me some carbs!!!! 😉

  38. Mama Pea on March 8, 2011 at 11:46 pm

No alcohol for Lent and no iPhone in bed. So when I see you next week, no vino for me 😉

  39. Dominique @ The Good Life on March 9, 2011 at 12:05 am

I’m giving up foods with significant amounts of added sugar. It will be crazyhard, but I think it will be good for me.

I’m also designating from 6:35-6:50am my time with Jesus. It’s just too easy to put it off till later, and then never get around to it.

  40. Christin@purplebirdblog on March 9, 2011 at 12:50 am

Girl, you so crazy giving up AB for Lent!! Mad props though.. that is just not in my repertoire! 🙂

  41. mi-an dela cruz on March 9, 2011 at 1:11 am

wow, giving up nut butter! i would not be able to do that. i’m giving up coffee. so far so good bc i started on saturday! had one day of migraine, then drank lotsa green juice and now feeling good! Fit Tues…included power yoga!! :))

  42. Emma (Namaste Everyday) on March 9, 2011 at 1:28 am

surprisingly they don’t do Mardis Gras here in New Zealand! does that mean they don’t do lent, either? I am not giving anything up this year, since I am trying to live up every moment I can while abroad! but you can do it!!! luckily that leaves options for new and exciting nut butters…. 🙂

  43. Eimear Rose on March 9, 2011 at 2:47 am

I’ve given up sugar this month (started 1st) but my family all give up alcohol for Lent and the wine/beer money goes to charity. I had a fit and fat tuesday, couple of miles of walking and an aquajogging fartlek, followed by pancakes and beer! The protein fluff looks yum, what’s not to love about melted chocolate!?

  44. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on March 9, 2011 at 4:07 am

    Those berries look gorgeous!

    And protein fluff is brilliant.

  45. Stephanie on March 9, 2011 at 6:53 am

For lent I’m going to compliment someone every day. Last year I tried to do a random act of kindness every day.

  46. Katie on March 9, 2011 at 6:56 am

U are hardcore girl! I know how much you LOVE your almond butter!!!

Im so glad you are working hard on the book proposal!!! Miss u!!!! <3 xoxo

  47. Beth on March 9, 2011 at 7:25 am

Ohh, I love your top Gina! Where is it from?

  48. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on March 9, 2011 at 7:50 am

I can’t believe you’re giving up AB! You must have some killer willpower. 😉

  49. Katie on March 9, 2011 at 8:13 am

I’m not Catholic but I do like to give up something and do something for Lent. 🙂 This Lent I’m giving up reading the news. I started feeling really depressed and realized it’s because of all of the murders, disease, rising gas prices, and Charlie Sheen rants the media focuses so heavily on. I’m still working on my “do” but I’m pretty sure it’ll be people related. 🙂

  50. Michelle on March 9, 2011 at 8:41 am

Ahhhhh Lent. I’m giving up buying coffees, HUGE sacrifice for me! I’m also going to stop complaining about a certain thing. Its only 40 days, we can do it!
