Fitness Fashion Friday: all about that mesh

Happy Fitness Fashion Friday! Brought to you by the power of MESH.

I am loving all of the funky mesh details for spring; they add a little bit of interest and style to solid athletic wear. The last time I wore mesh was probably in the 80s when I had awesome crimped hair and these whitewash overalls with jewels that I wanted to wear every day. Take me baaaaack.

Today’s mesh is a little more understated than the days of yore, but I love the small details, like the back of this Fablectics sweater:

Patterned leggings used to freak me out. The wrong type can be unflattering, and it can be tricky to find tops to match without looking like it’s too much. A simple top usually works well, and as far as the patterns go, I try to stick with a more neutral base color and smaller prints.

Here are some similar pieces I’m loving:

      thank you! 🙂

I love the mesh fitness wear! I also really like the printed leggings….on other people. I just haven’t found any that I love for myself. Instead of bright bottoms/solid tops, I’m more into bright tops/solid bottoms.

Your 80s reference takes me back!! You should watch The Goldburgs that comes on Wed nights. It’s a comedy set in the 80s. Every time I watch, I go back in time. It makes me remember things I’d forgotten all about. It also makes me feel old, but that’s another story. Haha

I love that mesh top! I have some mesh panel leggings for summer workouts and they rock!

Space dye from Glyder has been my go to capri pattern lately. Just picked up a new pair last night! But my patterned bottoms always go with solid tops. But I will play on colors so not necessarily neutral.

I love these combos! Mesh + patterned leggings are totally my fitness spring faves!

I love the look of patterned leggings, but I’m really short and my legs are short, so I feel like black is more flattering on me. I have a few ‘investment’ bottoms that were more expensive, and then a lot of my workout tops are just random things I’ve gotten from Dick’s or on sale somewhere. I am always much more concerned with my bottoms because that’s where all of my chafing issues are 🙂

These photos are gorgeous!! I love certain printed leggings but hate others. It really depends on the print. I love yours. I just showed off a pair I like on my blog today too!

I love lululemon leggings. They’re quite fitting and flattering.

  9. Jill @ Champagne for Everyday on February 27, 2015 at 4:06 pm

I totally love these printed tights!! They also freak me out because they can be very unflattering, especially on muscular thighs. The stripes on this pair are going in just the right direction to create a slimming effect! Happy Friday 🙂

I always find myself more drawn to solids than prints, but I’ve been branching out more lately. I did a post recently highlighting some brands who are doing printed leggings well–in particular, I’ve heard K Deer and Werkshop are excellent quality. I also loved Nike’s lava print leggings, but $130 was too steep for me. Oh well. As much as I love lulu, their patterned luon fabric is almost always sheer and/or gross-feeling. Luxtreme prints are sometimes better.

As for mesh, it is seriously EVERYWHERE right now (since my blog is exclusively fitness clothes, I feel like I see new mesh stuff every freakin’ day!). I don’t like mesh that’s too overstyled, which is a trap a lot of brands have been falling into while jumping on the bandwagon, but I looove Alala and Olympia Activewear’s mesh-accented pieces!

I loveee what you’re wearing in those photographs. My sister and I got matching outfits for our 10K this past weekend (cause we’re lame like that ;)) and we went with a neutral top and patterned leggings. I love them!

    Always, Anita

WOW! Obsessed with that top and those leggings! LOVE it!

patterned leggings are ALWAYS a yay!! Nothing like a fun pop of color to brighten up and add more energy to my workout! Xo

as my friend said this week, “out with old, in with the older.” i think that applies perfectly to mesh…

LOL. I’m ok with print leggings but I’m passing on the mesh. Though I liked it in the early 80s.

      love that so much

  15. Erin @ Erin's Inside Job on February 28, 2015 at 7:11 am

Ive definitely been noticing all the mesh lately. I like them in the black leggings that I have been seeing. I finally bought a pair of patterned leggings because I felt so boring always wearing my black ones all the time. So far I am liking being able to mix it up!

I am obsessed with those Alo ‘Goddess’ leggings! I have dreaming about them for a while now… my birthday is next week– I think that is as good of an excuse as any to spoil myself a little 😉

  17. Monica on February 28, 2015 at 11:07 am

Most of my stuff is from Athleta, it’s my current fave. 🙂 I have a Chi tank with mesh straps (and I want like…12 more. BUY ALL THE COLORS! OBSESSED with that tank.) I also have some printed crops from Athleta that I adore. Good stuff. 🙂

  18. Amy @ Amy M4gic on February 28, 2015 at 4:51 pm

I love the look of patterned leggings, but I’m too scared to wear them. I’m pretty much to scared to wear any leggings that aren’t black for fear of unflattering sweat marks… But I bet the right pattern could potentially disguise them. I would like to get away from so much black workout gear, especially in the spring!

  19. Jessica @ kiwiyogirunner on February 28, 2015 at 11:24 pm

I’ve never worn mesh stuff before, that forever 21 top is so gorgeous though! I love the look of all this stuff!

  20. Allison on March 1, 2015 at 5:25 am

I own those capris from Fabletics! I almost got that top too, but I wasn’t sure how much I’d wear it so I ordered a tank and sports bra instead. Now that I see how cute it is on you, I totally should have ordered. They don’t have my size anymore. I’m checking out my March picks on Fabletics right now!

  21. Alex @ True Femme on March 1, 2015 at 9:15 am

I love LOVE mesh! I just bought a pair of Lululemon leggings that have this beautiful mesh work (and reminds me of ribbons on a ballerina’s shoes going up the legs). I wanted them last year but got there too late and my size/color had sold out, so I snapped them up this year! I am not the biggest fan of patterned leggings, but I have a few pairs that I like. Alo Yoga is one of my new favorite brands (for Pure Barre). I really want a pair of their goddess leggings and the glossy black leggings!

  22. Rachel on March 2, 2015 at 6:56 am

Love your outfit in this post! I get 99% of my workout gear from Old Navy; super cheap and it has lasted for me. Right now they have a LOT of patterned legging options!

  23. Shaina Anderson on March 9, 2015 at 3:23 pm

I don’t have any mesh YET, and I just hopped on the printed leggings bandwagon yesterday when my Mama bought me some new luluuuuuuuus <3
