Fri Night Fish Tacos + NEW Ab burner

Hiiiii 😀 How are you? Hope you had a great Friday <3 Thank you so much to those of you who tweeted, texted and emailed to make sure the Pilot and I were ok after today’s events on base. Thankfully, he’s home here safe and all is bueno.

Since the base was on lockdown until later today and the Pilot would be home late, Bella and I decided to get some shopping cardio at La Encantada.

shopping

I love shopping at pet-friendly places. All of the stores at La Encantada welcome pets –it’s a swanky outdoor mall- and they gave Bell lots of belly rubs, water and treats. She was very happy 🙂 And I got to pick up a bridal shower gift + a couple of things for the little nuggette at Gymboree.

Lunch:

sandwich

[hummus sandwich packed up to-go]

Dinner was a date with the Pilot at Blanco, an amazing little taco/tequila restaurant.

blanco

After being a nervous eater all day, I made up for it with a thousand chips + salsa:

chips

and fish tacos with black beans.

tacos

They were perfect… grilled mahi mahi, and they weren’t stingy with the avocado. I appreciate this very much.

me

[Please to ignore the giant chip crumb on my dress. These things happen sometimes haha]

The Pilot rolled with the ahi tuna tacos:

pilot

and a blood orange margarita. Insano.

I just love that whenever we have dinner or dates together, neither one of us touches our cell phone. We forget about technology for a while and just enjoy each other’s company. Tonight we talked about a lot of different things, and also about some of the fall and winter stuff I have planned for the blog –I like to hear his opinion on…everything- and I’m pretty stoked about it 🙂

We’re back at the casa and I have to get my stuff together for work tomorrow. I’m thinking it will be a purple Zumba pants kinda day 😉

Enjoy your night!

xoxo

Gina

LOVE Blanco! My hairstylist (at the salon below) recommended it and I love those fish tacos! Now I’m craving it! Glad everything is A-okay! We also had a date night- a military ball kind of date night! Fun times and terrible food! haha

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 1:23 am

ohhh that’s fun! haha and you’re right, the food is always awful.. but shenanigans always occur 🙂

So relieved the pilot is okay and safe. My sister works in HR at a base in Canada and I can’t imagine if the same scenario happened there.. So scary.

No phones while on dates is a must! I totally agree with you madam!

  3. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 17, 2011 at 1:29 am

So happy to hear that everyone is safe and sound! There is absolutely nothing like dinner dates with your love, it is so important. And I don’t think anyone would have noticed the crumb had you not mentioned it!

  4. Krystina (Organically Me) on September 17, 2011 at 2:03 am

I’m glad the pilot is safe. 😀 Those fish tacos look KILLER!

  5. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 17, 2011 at 6:53 am

That’s cool that you can run things by the Pilot in terms of your blog plans…I wish I could long-range predict what my blog was going to be like in the winter! You’re good girl!

His margarita sounds great and glad you had a nice meal together (not touching the phones) and were able to just BE together! And that he got home safely 🙂

  6. Hillary on September 17, 2011 at 7:33 am

Glad Tom made it home safe—and well enough to eat what looks like an incredible meal!

  7. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on September 17, 2011 at 8:09 am

You and the Pilot are so great together– I really love reading about your relationship. It always shines through how much you care about each other 🙂

  8. Megan Infantino on September 17, 2011 at 8:09 am

Glad to know that you guys are okay! When hubby and I were stationed in Okinawa, the base was locked down seeeeevaeral times. It was locked down for days at a time. We couldn’t get off base. It was horrible!

  9. Meg on September 17, 2011 at 8:19 am

It must have felt so good to have the Pilot sitting safe and sound across from you at dinner. So glad he’s okay! 🙂

Good he is safe – I had no idea but I am pretty clueless when it comes to those things. You guys always have the best dinners! I am so jealous of that one. YUM! That’s awesome that you can bring bella shopping…now show us what you got! 😉

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 3:29 pm

      k i’ll post that tonight 🙂

  14. Lara @ six times the yum on September 17, 2011 at 9:38 am

Glad he is safe and all is well!! I am jealous of your recent eats, especially that delicious mexican food! Grilled fish tacos? Gimme, gimme!

This is a bit random, but I noticed you have the Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Hillier Hobo. I’ve been considering purchasing one, but have been going back and forth about it. What size is yours, regular of “huge”? Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 3:28 pm

mine’s the regular sized one and i’m obsessed with it. i wear it pretty much every day 🙂

  15. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries on September 17, 2011 at 9:55 am

Glad to hear you guys got a nice evening together after a stressful day. I LOVE Blanco! I’m originally from the Phoenix area, and they have one in Scottsdale that I used to go to regularly. I miss it! Aren’t their fish tacos wonderful?!

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm

      they’re the best 🙂

  16. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on September 17, 2011 at 10:00 am

So glad everyone’s home safe from that incident. We went out to dinner last night too and I think it was the longest stretch I’ve gone in weeks where I didn’t look at my phone or some sort of technological gadget for more than 2 hours. It was refreshing 🙂

  17. Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning on September 17, 2011 at 10:09 am

Oh man, I LOVE fish tacos! My hubby and I were in Vancouver last month and had the best fish tacos ever at this little shack on the water (one with halibut and the other was spicy salmon). I’ve tried to make them at home, but the never burn out as good as any that I’ve had out on the Pacific Coast!

  18. Christena on September 17, 2011 at 10:24 am

So glad the Pilot is safe. I didn’t hear about that, but I did hear about some flash flooding in Tuscon….?

Is the Pilot an Alabama fan?!?! If so, tell him Roll Tide from some one who lives in Tuscaloosa!!!!! I was surprised to see his shirt!! Woo hoo!

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm

he was so excited when i told him right now 🙂
      ROLL TIDE!

    • jamie rojas on September 18, 2011 at 10:20 am

i second that – rammer jammer yeller hammer give em hell alabama! (from a die-hard bama girl living in south america, seeing a bama tshirt like that on game day – which i can’t watch – made. my. day.)
      glad he’s ok.

  20. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on September 17, 2011 at 11:25 am

I’m so glad you got to have date time with the pilot after such a stressful day! And I love that you don’t touch your cell phones while you eat, Josh and I don’t do that either, my one friend and her fiance, anytime theyre out to eat theyre both constantly on their phones, I’m like whats the point?

  21. Sana on September 17, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I do ditch the phone on my dates with the boy, we don’t need to be concerned with other issues when we are together. Unless our parents call, lol!

  22. Jessica @ Jess Go Bananas on September 17, 2011 at 12:00 pm

    SOMEHOW I forgot to mention…

    You are gorgeous <3

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 3:29 pm

      you’re a sweetheart- thank you! <3

  28. Jackie @ That Deep Breath on September 17, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Yumm!!!! Those tacos look amazing. I totally agree on the cell phone thing, I absolutely can’t stand eating with someone and having them text and be on their phones. What’s the point of going out to eat with someone if your going to be off in your own world on your phone?

  29. Lauren on September 17, 2011 at 4:57 pm

I LOOOOOOVED that ab burner. Just finished it. Of course I was doing it by memory and did 30 reps of everything. Every part of my bod is burning, a good burn. So thank you! It was just what I needed

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 7:03 pm

so awesome- i’m glad you liked it!

  30. Laurie on September 18, 2011 at 11:39 am

Glad everything was OK for the pilot! That was scary! Tell the pilot ROLL TIDE also, I’m from Huntsville. Is he from Alabama? You dinner looks so good!

  31. kathleen @ the daily crumb on September 18, 2011 at 12:14 pm

    looks delicious!

gina, have your seafood-eating habits changed since becoming pregnant? i know that some fish are no-no’s, but do you find that you still consume the mercury free varieties as frequently? i am a fish LOVER and wondering how i’ll get through 9 months without it!

  32. Susan D on September 18, 2011 at 7:27 pm

That restaurant looks delicious. When I read the title of this blog, I thought – “Oh, good! A fish taco recipe” 🙂 and then scrolled down to see it was dinner out 😛 Have you ever made grilled fish tacos at home before? If so, do you have a recipe you can post? I’m not very skilled at cooking fish (only ever made baked salmon) but would love a healthy fish taco recipe 🙂

  33. Nicole Rodriguez (@Nicole2112) on September 19, 2011 at 9:59 am

I wish I could find a restaurant around here that would serve fish tacos with mahi mahi. They offer nothing but tilapia in ours and I won’t touch that fish with a 10 foot pole.
    Yours look delicious!

  34. Alyssa @ Life of bLyss on September 19, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Anyway, I felt the need to comment on this post because I’m a rising sophomore at the University of Alabama and love your man’s taste in t-shirt 😉 Roll Tide!
