Friday Faves

Roses 1 of 1 2

Not a fave: major technology issues yesterday. Sorry for the lack of posts! I had a barre burner ready for ya and had some major uploading problems. I tried at multiple times during the day to upload, only to crash iMovie. It couldn’t handle the burn 😉 The good news is that it should finally be up later today!

Some of the things from around the web or little things I loved this week:

A kitten, who thinks she’s a pit bull.

How being active now can help you later.

A hero of a dog, protecting his 3-year old owner.

Allllllll the genie pants. I have two pairs from last year’s Italy trip but have been wanting to expand my collection 😉 Love these ones from Urban with a sassy side slit.

How successful people stay calm.

An amazing week of workouts!

Here’s what it looked like:

Sunday: BodyPump training

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: Teach Zumba

Wednesday: Barre3 and walk with a friend 🙂

Thursday: Orange Theory

Friday: OFF

Saturday: Not sure yet. I’ll probably go for a run or take a Zumba class.

9 very good reasons to take a nap today.

Hope you have a very happy Friday! What’s something you’re loving this week? What has your week of workouts looked like?

I just saw genie pants at Target that I liked but I couldn’t find the perfect top to go with them. They look very comfortable 🙂 I LOVE that quote/saying!! I needed that reminder today 🙂 I’m loving that today is Friday and that I have a margarita and mexi food date with some lady co-workers tonight. My workouts this week were Barre class/training Monday. Tuesday off. Wednesday 4 mile run. Thursday Interval Barre. Today a 4/5 mile run. Tomorrow run with the little lady in the stroller. Sunday off to celebrate mama’s day 🙂

  13. Lindsey on May 9, 2014 at 12:51 pm

Kind of random, but do you ever get sick of taking pictures of everything, or do you just think of it as part of your job? After a workout the last thing I’d want to do is take a picture of my smoothie. Are you just super used to it now? How do you decide when to put away the camera?

    • Fitnessista on May 9, 2014 at 4:11 pm

i don’t take pictures of everything, so i don’t really get sick of it. i just take pictures of things i want as keepsakes, or for the blog. for recipes and blog pics, i have fun taking them, especially since i finally learned how to use my camera 🙂

A comment regarding the inspirational quotes – I know tons of people appreciate these, and I do too from time to time. I just can’t help but think they just aren’t very realistic. It’s easy to “follow” these rules when you lead a privileged, financially stable lifestyle and you have a partner or family who financially supports you. For example “don’t like your job – quit.” Hah. So a single mother or father who is the sole provider for their family should just up and quit their job if they don’t like it? Nope. “Travel often” – that’s only possible if you have the time and financial resources. Anyways, I know that these sorts of quotes and posters are all over the place and they are intended to be joyous and inspirational, which I definitely appreciate, and that if you read into something enough you can find fault with anything. Just wanted to share some thoughts.

    • Ali on May 9, 2014 at 2:34 pm

I absolutely agree. I haven’t taken a vacation longer than 1 day in 9 years because I’ve been working to build up enough money to even live on and I could never just up and quit my job – I support myself. I can make changes that make me happier, like I applied to school so I could remove myself from a bad job situation, but it is a year-long process just to get through all of that and I had to sell a house, etc. on top of it all. I know those pictures and messages are supposed to be inspirational but I find that they make things out to be super simplistic. I have a few friends who love them and since they have started reading them daily, everything they say is simplistic. Unfortunately (and sometimes fortunately seeing as even having a job is a positive thing even if it means you hate it and can’t travel), not everyone’s life works that way.

      • Fitnessista on May 9, 2014 at 4:15 pm

i totally understand where you’re coming from. i take the bits and pieces of inspirational quotes that are applicable to me, and leave the rest. for example, sometimes you have to stick with a job for financial reasons, even if you hate it. i would take the idea of finding joy even in the things i hate as the “lesson,” not, “ok, i’m quitting today because my boss is a jerk.” i’d just focus on my awesome coworkers, things i got to do that i enjoy, etc. i see these quotes more for the “spirit” of what they suggest, rather than a super literal interpretation.

    • Fitnessista on May 9, 2014 at 4:19 pm

i think if you take most things super literally you can find fault in them. i like the quotes for the ideas they suggest, but just take the bits and pieces that apply to me. for example, i’ve been in a job i hated before and needed the money, so i toughed it out. you do what you gotta do, but even the hard things seem more manageable if you focus on the aspects where you can find and create joy. i like the fact that many of these quotes suggest taking the actions you can control to create a happy life.

I LOVE the Holstee manifesto! It’s been one of the few thing on my fridge for years now. My brother first showed it to me as a way to explain how he was living his life. (We were confused why he up and moved all the way across the country to Portland, OR. Now, I wish I had the balls to do it, but I think I’d miss the sun and my family, as would my husband).

I’ve been busy with group fitness workouts this week and even some yoga. Five days on so far, with some rest coming up this weekend. Technology issues are the worst. Enjoy your day! 🙂

I’m loving the weather and vitamin D! Finally a week with hardly no rain and lots of sunshine. I’m also loving some cute Michael Kors sandals I saw at Macy’s. I’m thinking they are a must have for our trip to Vegas next week 🙂

  19. Sky @ The Blonde In Black on May 9, 2014 at 2:22 pm

Love the manifesto!! I’m looking forward to your barre video and hope it uploads for you. I’ve been loving knocking my final projects out this week to end this semester!

  20. RachelG on May 9, 2014 at 2:22 pm

Loving maxi dresses that work for shorts girls! Lol. Kohls & white plum are heavenly. I actually don’t have to wear heels to avoid stepping all over the bottoms. 🙂

  21. Traci on May 9, 2014 at 2:33 pm

This week I am loving the warmer weather. I’m in the midwest so it’s not a normal thing like it is for you. :] And I loved the reasons to nap link.

I logged 38 miles on the pavement this week, a cycle class, swimming, Barre class today and an hour weight training. I feel a little guilty today only doing Barre class, but my body needed something low key and I’m trying to pay attention to it. Love that inspirational quote!

Oh that Mason jar smoothie looks so good! Have you ever tried the mason jar salads? Mason jars are like ducktap…101 uses, hehe :-D. p.s. The imovie couldn’t handle the burn eh? Haha – have to admit that I had a good chuckle on that one ;-).

  28. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on May 11, 2014 at 7:41 am

I’ll head out for a 9 miler in a bit but otherwise it’s been a great week of training and we’re now only 2 weeks from my half marathon (gulp)!!
