Friday Faves

Hi! Happy Friday! Hope you’ve had an amazing week. Anything fun planned for the weekend? We’re meeting up with our cousins (wahoo!) and a friend is also in town. It’s going to be a great one! Also, I taught my final practice barre class last night and am on the floor with my own classes starting next week. Pretty stoked to be back at it 🙂

Some faves from the week and around the web:

Your AMAZING Summer Shape Up check-ins. Please keep them coming! Here’s a little collage I put together with some pics from our Facebook group 🙂

Check ins week 1

Please continue to check it with your daily workouts on this page (<— click to comment) and also enter this week’s Skyscapes giveaway. You can enter every day from now until Sunday. Instagram, Twitter and Facebook check-ins are also counted, too! (#summershapeup @fitnessista @fannetasticfood)

Teenage years in a nutshell.

The Anastasia brow kit. The kind Anastasia eyebrow tech at Nordstorm taught me how to really do my eyebrows a couple of months ago and this kit is super easy to use. I got the wax pencil and use that + the shadow + a little clear gel to keep everything in place. During the summer, my makeup routine goes to the wayside, but nice brows (instead of the caterpillars that can take over my face) make a huge difference.

Speaking of makeup, I loved Caitlin’s post about the Naked Face project part 2.

How Trader Joe’s sells affordable goods.

Have babies, keep reading.

Prevent wrist pain in common yoga poses.

Anne’s baked oatmeal recipe. Liv and I had this for breakfast a couple of days this week, and I put the muffins in the freezer to enjoy breakfast in a pinch. So delicious, perfectly sweet and very filling.

Baked oatmeal 1 of 1

Can you guess the Disney movie by the Emoji summary? 9 out of 9, NBD.

Lessons on fatherhood from a fighter pilot.

How to squat like a boss.

NBA-themed mean tweets.

Not a fave at all, but wanted to give a heads up about the chia seed recall.

Hope you have a very happy Friday! Any faves or fun things you’re loving this week?

xoxo

Gina

I got a 9 out of 9 on that Disney test too. I think I’m a little too obsessed with Disney. ;p

The Anastasia brow kit is amazing.

And that being a teenager in the 2000’s article is too funny. I forgot about the ten layers of popped collars. Oh man, how did we think that was cool? ;p

I’m currently loving the new Glam Glow Powermud (in the green jar) that goes from a mud to oil and smells like green apples. I find that it’s really gentle on my skin but also really powerful. My skin glows afterwards and it is so soft!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:38 pm

i totally just searched for that at sephora. i need it 🙂

      • Alex @ Kenzie Life on June 20, 2014 at 6:09 pm

DO IT!! You won’t regret it. It’s amazing!

        • Katie on June 21, 2014 at 7:01 am

All the glam glow masks rock!!

  3. Brynn on June 20, 2014 at 11:33 am

I’m loving iced unsweetened passion tea!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:37 pm

      ahhh! so good!

  4. Megan @ The Skinny-Life on June 20, 2014 at 11:43 am

I love the Squat link! So many people have the wrong form with squats including muah when I’m not paying close attention. Oatmeal is a good idea always!

I saw the Naked Face Post yesterday and absolutely loved it. I am so glad to see you shared it on your Friday Faves!

  6. Charline on June 20, 2014 at 12:04 pm

Your link to the week 1 workout is for the Winter Shapeup!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:37 pm

haha well that’s a fail. i’ll fix it!

  7. Britt@MyOwnBalance on June 20, 2014 at 12:05 pm

I heard about that chia seed recall. Was so happy it wasn’t the brand of the big bag I just bought!

I love the Have Babies, Keep Reading. I love love love to read and one of my biggest fears is losing things that make me a happy and healthy person after our little one comes. But like anything, if you make it a priority, you can find the time.

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:36 pm

exactly. if it’s important to you, you find a way to make it work

  8. Christine@ Apple of My Eye on June 20, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Mhmm those muffins look delicious! I love that you can just grab one out of the freezer for a quick treat!

  9. Amber Schumann on June 20, 2014 at 12:22 pm

The link about reading after having kids = lifechanger. I couldn’t figure out HOW to do it! I’m thankful for the encouragement.

But I did find time to take the Disney emoticon quiz. 9 for 9 … at least my time spent watching Disney movies was worth it 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:36 pm

i remember when liv was 3 days old -and the hormone dump hit HARD- and i started sobbing to tom because he brought home a stack of magazines and “i’d never have time to read again.” it makes me chuckle now because i figured out that you make time and you do it 🙂
glad you liked the emoji quiz, too 😉

      • Amber Schumann on June 20, 2014 at 5:41 pm

OMG me too!!!! My MIL asked if she should renew my Racheal Ray Magazine subscription she gets me every year. Had to fight back tears–I used to read that thing cover to cover.

My daughter is just turning two and I still have to remind myself “if hubby has time for Candy Crush and Temple Run then I need to learn to sit back every once in a while to read a book and HE can jump in when she needs assistance” 🙂

  10. Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift on June 20, 2014 at 1:13 pm

Yikes, thanks for the heads up about the chia recall. I have a small bag of chia seeds in my pantry from the bulk section of a local store, so now I need to figure out if the original supplier is on the recall list.

Have a great time with all your visitors this weekend! 🙂

  11. Amanda on June 20, 2014 at 2:35 pm

The “teenage years” article nailed it!! It made me realize how much really has changed since then, AND it kind of made me feel old!! Oh well – this stage of life is waaaay better than high school! I’ll take feeling old 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:30 pm

amen to that. i loved high school, but i never want to go back to that 😉

  12. Jennifer on June 20, 2014 at 2:46 pm

Loving this week – SSU workout 1 (hello), the weather, the Medal of Honor awarded to an incredible person, salad for lunch every day, fresh herbs. Hope you have a great time with your visitors and the newest addition to the family. xo

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:29 pm

love all of those! hope you have a very happy weekend!

I can’t wait to check out the brow kit! I recently let a Clinique rep show me some tips and I was amazed at how a few little things really make a difference. My favorite part was when she told me my eyebrows were sisters not twins 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:25 pm

oh i love that tip! mine always look a little different 🙂

  14. Jacki on June 20, 2014 at 3:08 pm

I just started using make up to do my brows too! I love the Anasasia dip-brow pomade. It’s magically and I can’t believe I’m just discovering this now!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:25 pm

right?! i’m like how did i wait to learn about this until i’m almost 30. better late than never i guess 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 5:25 pm

ohhh i’ll have to check that out!

  15. Stephanie K on June 20, 2014 at 3:47 pm

I’m just curious where you’re teaching Barre, if you don’t mind sharing. I tried out a class recently and think it would be something good to add to my routine but wasn’t sure about the schedule offered by that particular studio. Thanks!

  16. Amy S on June 20, 2014 at 4:11 pm

I love the “Have Babies, Keep Reading!” I don’t have children yet but definitely plan to eventually…and I would never want to give up making time to read. Great article!

  17. Faye Holloway on June 20, 2014 at 6:28 pm

When the summer shape up lists the Workout 1 followed by cardio is it better to do it in that order or would it be just as effective to do the cardio first and then the weights? I like to get the cardio over first 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2014 at 7:08 pm

it’s a preference thing! if you like doing the cardio first, go for it 🙂

  18. Michelle @ Vitamin Sunshine on June 20, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Thanks for spreading the word on the chia seed outbreak. Yuck! I’ll have to check mine.

Love your Friday Faves. I always find a few things that inspire me on it.

  19. Ellie on June 20, 2014 at 11:46 pm

Ahh need to check up on that wrist pain prevention! So far I’ve been a-ok with yoga poses but I guess you never know~thanks for sharing these great links!

  20. Ashley on June 21, 2014 at 10:03 am

Today I’m lovin’ that my little one has woken up well. After being sick for the past 4 days with a terrible cold I was a little worried. It has also cramped my gym-going because I didn’t want to take a sick child to the gym child care (so I’m extra-loving the SSU!) Speaking of SSU – the link you posted was actually to the WSU. Just wanted to let ya know.

  21. Valerie on June 21, 2014 at 5:54 pm

Love baked oatmeal! I love the way the edges get all caramelized. Nom nom nom…

  22. Emily on June 21, 2014 at 7:34 pm

    Hi!
Just wondering what program you got certified as a personal trainer through? I’m looking in to becoming certified through NASM and just wondering what route you went?!

    Thanks so much!
    Emily
