Hi! Happy Friday! The man of the house is back home after being gone this week. We basically high-fived in the doorway when I got home from IDEA, and he took off. We missed him, but had a blast with our girls’ week together. Excited to spend the weekend as a family of three again (five if you count the puppers). Our friend Lindy is in town this weekend, so we had a beach day yesterday and I took her to her first Orangetheory class last night! It felt so great to be back into it.

Some faves from the week and around the web:

Humans of New York has been traveling around the world. This is my favorite Facebook page, and I’ve absolutely loved the stories and photos. Many have brought me to tears, and the page serves as a reminder that no matter where you are in the world, we’re all HUMANS with the same emotions, needs and worries. Check it out if you haven’t already.

Tuna melts my heart. And Tuna, he MELTS MY FREAKING HEART. Julie introduced me to this Instagram account, and I think she was pleased with my reaction because I looked through the feed for at least 5 solid minutes while giggling to myself. I want to meet Tuna.

How to tame your runger. (I was glad to learn this is really a thing and not a figment of my imagination. Running makes me hangry!)

Life hacks that went too far.

The honey chocolate mints from Trader Joe’s. Only three ingredients and taste like peppermint patties.

Mint candies 1 of 1

So You Think You Can Dance. (Does anyone else say it in their head like the announcer voice??)

Fall candles at Bath and Body Works. I’m totally on the fence about fall’s earlier retail arrival each year. I can see how you should enjoy the present moment, especially because that moment is Summer (!), but then again, I’m the first to pumpkingasm at the sight of anything cinnamon-y and autumnesque.

Would someone please do a Rent flash mob in San Diego and invite me?

This gorgeous Topshop kimono.

This pug really wants a blueberry.

Things good listeners do differently.

Tips to PR on race day.

Happy Friday!

xoxo

HECK YES TUNAAAAAA! I was just so happy to find someone who had the EXACT same reaction to Tuna that I did. He’s the best. If you play your cards right, I might just buy you the Tuna calendar for Christmas…

I’m loving that I made it to the gym this morning (for the first time in 2 weeks). Idk… I’m never ready to let go of summer, but once those pumpkin drinks come out I’m like OK 🙂

I always say So You Think You Can Dance like the theme song! Ha! I thought it was just me. This weekend I plan on hanging with my friends, doing some house work nod prep for baby.

Loving a laid-back weekend with some glossy magazines and big cups of tea. It’s already feeling like fall in Finland!

  7. Bree on August 22, 2014 at 8:34 am

oh my gosh! I am so happy that “runger” is something real and that doesn’t just apply to me. I will quite literally finish a run and then feel like I’ll pass out if I don’t eat soon and ALOT. I thought I was just weird…which could still be a possibility but at least I know it’s not for that reason 😉 ahahah.

I am going to have to check out all these links, thankfully I am covering the front desk today at work so I can’t do any of my desk work out here so this will give me something to read and enjoy!! This week I am loving the fact that I made my fitness goals happen. After a busy traveling and eventful May, June & July and I found myself a little over weight (in my mind) and heading back to the gym. My goal was to make it there Monday-Thursday and take a break on Friday and then we will see what Saturday and Sunday bring but I will not beat myself up if I don’t make it there those days. I made it all four days in a row and felt like I got great workouts in. On top of working out I cleaned up my eating this week and have felt so much better!!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2014 at 11:46 am

I’m just finishing up week 11 of Chicago Marathon training! My friend who works at Garmin in Chicago just sent me a box of goodies along with the Vivofit I ordered 🙂 I’m enjoying every last bit of summer as best as I can but I cannot wait for fall candles and oktoberfest beer. My husband and I have a rule in our house: no fall stuff at least until after labor day.

  12. Amanda on August 22, 2014 at 9:50 am

Some of the life hacks that have gone too far are actually so creative I cannot help but be impressed!!!

Currently LOVING the absolutely precious Apparently Kid and his GMA interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCERsZe22fk

I’m training for a half marathon right now and just trying to stay injury free =).

I have to work most of the weekend, but looking forward to trying my first Orange theory class Monday! There is ONE location in Ohio (they must be trialing), and it happens to be 20 minutes away- so lucky me! Maybe by then I won’t be quite as sore from PiYo 😉 Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2014 at 11:44 am

i loved the responses to some of them (like “what if it isn’t an emergency?” regarding the crayon)

    Hi Gyna,

I am curious if you use paddings for your boobs as there seems to be a difference in your bikini pic today vs all other clothed pics. If so, I would like to know what you use/recommend because I am having problems finding some that will work nicely for me.

    Thank you!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2014 at 11:27 am

i was slumped down in that pic, leaning into my hand. i think posture makes a huge difference!

Oh my goodness that candle literally makes me want to pick up and head to Bath and Body Works right this moment. Haha! I’m with you– I love summer and am still totally enjoying it, but decor wise, my heart has moved on to everything fall! 🙂

  20. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment on August 22, 2014 at 11:35 am

Fall candles are the best. Love your hat in the first beach photo. Where is it from?

  21. Amber Schumann on August 22, 2014 at 11:59 am

My BFF “introduced” me to Tuna like a year ago (or maybe even longer). She was fostering dogs at the time, and I totally thought she was sending me a pic of her next foster pup. I could.not.stop.laughing. We exchange Tuna pics to brighten each others’ day still!

“This. Is soyouTHINK you can dance!”
or even better…. “please welcome yoooour [awkward pause] j-dges!”
But damn I love that show. My heart breaks a little after each dance wishing I pursued it harder.

After completing my 5:15am OTF class this morning, they shared this article that broke my heart a little (a review that basically says OTF numbers are loaded for marketing purposes).
    http://www.orangetheoryfitness.com/Corporate/News/ArtMID/748/ArticleID/4/Orangetheory-Fitness-Orangetheory-Fitness-Isnt-The-New-CrossFit-So-What-Is-It-Exactly
It stung a little. But regardless of numbers, I still standby their kick ass workout! [chestbump]

  22. Alicia on August 22, 2014 at 12:21 pm

omg I love Tuna! My fiance hates him, so I’m definitely getting him the Tuna melts my heart calendar that will be coming out!

  23. april on August 22, 2014 at 12:35 pm

yes, tuna is so adorable! he definitely melts my heart, too. my best friend actually went to one of his petco appearances – she got to hold tuna and take a photo with him. haha 🙂

it’s way too hot here (i’m in los angeles) to think about fall just yet, but i’m still excited for all things pumpkin when it cools off! the smell of anything pumpkin or cinnamon-y puts a smile on my face 🙂

  24. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on August 22, 2014 at 12:45 pm

My favorite thing this week is carrot juice. I thought it was weird at first, but now I’m obsessed with it!

  27. Vanessa De La Rosa on August 22, 2014 at 3:45 pm

Hi, Gina! I just recently found your blog as I’m getting back on the fitness wagon, and I absolutely love it! I will be a long-time fan.

I was wondering: Do you ever have issues with headphones staying in while running? Mine always pop out – maybe I have sweaty ears? Gross. – and there has to be a way I can listen to music on the gym treadmill without getting distracted and frustrated by flailing headphones. Any insight?

    Thanks!

    • Kathy on August 22, 2014 at 9:04 pm

      Hi Vanessa,
I had the same issue with every type or ear bud I ever bought and then a doctor told me I have very small ear canals and they just likely won’t stay in. I now use the kind that loop around the ear and cover the whole ear and I love them!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2014 at 9:22 pm

i use the bose headphones and love them! they fit in my ear perfectly and are sweat-proof. i also have sweaty ears haha

      • Vanessa De La Rosa on August 25, 2014 at 1:04 pm

Awesome – thanks! I will have to check them out! (And glad to know I’m not the only one.) 🙂

  28. Kathy on August 22, 2014 at 9:03 pm

First, pumpkingasm…bravo and also, eww. Its way too soon for the summer to be winding down but I must admit I pinned a couple christmas things and the christmas trees up, proud and loud at Costco. I;m currently loving tonic and lime ice cubes…my husband made them for the obvious reason (gin!) but I swung by halfway thru a steamy 10k run today and grabbed one and it..was..i…can’t…..oh my god. Best thing ever!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2014 at 9:20 pm

wowwww, that sounds amazing! any particular ratio to make them? i need this in my life

      • Kathy on August 23, 2014 at 6:36 pm

just tonic poured into the ice cube tray and then lots of lime squeezed in..couldn’t be easier…they don’t freeze as solid as water due to the bubbles but that just makes them easier to chomp and if you do use them in a cocktail, no diluting your drink!

        • Fitnessista on August 24, 2014 at 11:07 pm

          so excited to try this!

  29. Amalia on August 23, 2014 at 2:57 am

Humans of New York is an AMAZING facebook page – I love it, and I check it every day. I’m even happier now that he is traveling the world. You have also just introduced me to Orangetheory!
