Friday Faves

Hi friends! HAPPY FRIDAY 🙂 What are you up to this weekend? We don’t have any solid plans besides Liv’s usual soccer practice, so it will be nice to chill with the fam, especially since last weekend was so busy. The Pilot and I were both out of town last week, and madre stayed with Liv, which was amazing. Those two always have a blast together. <3

I’m off to the doctor’s office this morning, but wanted to stop by for the usual Friday Faves! This is where I share some of the things that made me smile this week: usually some type of delicious food, funny/interesting links, clothes/beauty stuff, moments, workouts, and whatever strikes my fancy. (In other words, it’s totally random.) I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please shout it out in the comments if you’d like!

The best bridal party dance I’ve ever seen.

“I don’t know how you do this every single day.” A great read and reminder to focus on the positives.

20 healthy habits that lead to big results.

My favorite nail polish set. Love this mix of colors as they work well for any season.

A quick and delicious dinner: salmon stir fry bowls.

Salmon veggie bowl 1 of 1

I sautéed some veggies (broccoli, zucchini, carrot, onion and bell pepper) in a coconut oil with salt, pepper and garlic.

Veggies 1 of 1

I stirred in a little miso paste and 4 servings of brown rice. While the veggies were cooking, I had salmon in the oven that was seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, a splash of rice wine vinegar and Tamari.

Salmon on top of veg and rice and boom. Perfect dinner.

Friend dates! I’ve been trying to get ahead on a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff before baby arrives. Even though I currently feel like the to-do list is pretty long, any time a friend wants to hang out, I go for it. I’m really enjoying some quality friend time for the next few months and I inevitably hibernate for a little while.

Kelli and I had a delicious brunch at Isabel’s Cantina,

and Betsy and I met for coffee yesterday morning. I decided to take Bella with me for a little adventure, and she was very happy hanging out with us on the Jungle Java patio.

The science of hangry. The struggle is real.

This support belt. The one I wore last pregnancy feels very warm and uncomfortable, so I found another one on Amazon that feels so much better, and helps provide support.

My copy of PIYO arrived! I can’t wait to try it! (<— my Beachbody link if you’d like to check it out!)

I also ordered a copy of the new Fixate cookbook since I’m always looking for new clean eating ideas and recipes. I love Autumn, but the recipes seem pretty bland. I’ll let you guys know what I think after I try a few of them.

Why most people don’t exercise — and it’s not lack of time.

A drive-thru I CAN’T WAIT to try.

Livi feeling the baby kick. When the baby is feeling super active, and you can see the rolls and motions across my entire torso, Liv will put her tiny hands on my belly and talk to her sister. The first time she felt her kick, her eyes lit up and her face broke into the sweetest, brightest smile. I’ll never forget her purple-painted fingernails on my belly and the look on her face when she felt it. Life moments, right here. <3

Hope you all have a very happy Friday!! Stay tuned for a newsletter this afternoon with a smoothie recipe and workout ideas for next week. (I’ll send out the full August calendar next Friday.)

xoxo

    Salmon stir-fry bowl?! Yes please!!

That nail polish looks so pretty! I’ve been looking for some new polishes…

Today I am enjoying Americanos. EXACTLY what I need to perk me up after several nights of horrible sleeps 🙂

Love The new vegan fast food restaurant- it’s about time! I’m catching up on girl time as I’m just exiting the baby stage.

Ugh that salmon looks delish. Salmon is one thing that restaurants make WAY better than I do, so I’m always on the lookout for good salmon recipes that I can’t mess up.

I really enjoyed this post, especially the memory made with the baby kicking <3! It's a great reminder to focus on the positive and lucky things in our lives. My Friday Fave is that my bf is taking me to Las Vegas today for my first time ever (as a surprise for my bday!) – and I ate two Quest bars for breakfast which I think taste like heaven. FRIYAY!

    xx Jill

LOVE salmon stir fry bowls! We made them this week with sushi rice, bok choy, and grilled salmon. An Amy’s Drive Thru is a dream come true! I hope they eventually come to Charlotte!

That post about looking at the positives reeeeeally spoke to me. Like heavens parted, smack me in the head, angels sang, and i finally understood the root of all my frustrations as i transition into my sahm role with my 3 year old.

My mom said to me the other day “you just dont seem to be enjoying parenthood.” A piece of me died when she told me that…i had no words, and just retreated upstairs to pull the dagger from my heart and cry. Now i understand why she said that… from her perspective, all i do is complain about the negatives. I feel like my husband my be guilty with me.

Here’s to shedding a new light! Thank you so much for sharing that post….

I can’t wait to hear what you think about PIYO. I really wanted to try it myself but I opted for Cize because I just love dancing! I have the 21 DF and I must say a lot of the recipes on there are pretty bland too. I tend to go overboard on the seasoning recipe that they give us just to make the food more palatable.

Oh man! That is so cool about the Amy’s Drive Thru. And yet another reason to be added as to why I need to visit San Francisco soon!

That is so cool Liv felt the baby! What an incredible moment. Now I’m off to watch that bridal shower dance.

Hi Gina! I live your blog and have read for many years, however I am a first time commenter 🙂 question when you are teaching classes, going to dr appointments etc….where is Liv? I am only asking because I am curious as I always have two kids to wrangle with me to dr appointment…not fun! Thanks so much!

    • Fitnessista on July 24, 2015 at 10:05 am

Thank you for reading for so long! When I teach in the evenings, tom is usually home to stay with her. For doctors appointments, I usually try to schedule them while she’s at preschool since she goes 3 half days each week. This is also when I get most of my work stuff done 🙂

All the stir frys! I’ve been loving red cabbage and bok choy in mine lately. Bella is too cute :). I’m loving the long summer nights, taking the pup on long walks, and I just got a Popsicle mold! So excited to try it out this weekend :)))

Omg I LOVE that wedding riverdance!!! What a special memory for the bride and groom!

I’m really addicted to Deliciously Ella’s blog recipes and cookbook right now. I’ve made her spinach and pea pesto pasta half a dozen times in the last month. That is more pasta than I ate all of last year and I’m not even joking. I use TJ’s brown rice and quinoa pasta with her incredible pesto and it is the tastiest, most satisfying summer meal! I’m also really loving Supergoop’s sunscreen oil and Josie Maran’s 3-in-1 core color for your lips. It’s a color, gloss, and hydration all in one and they are brilliant and gorgeous! Have a great weekend, lovely! <3

Amy’s drive thru?? I hope they expand across the country! We’re usually the last to get great new healthy options here in Kansas!

    Have a great relaxing weekend!

  15. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on July 24, 2015 at 11:52 am

I’m totally in need of a low-key weekend after last weekend’s BlogFest travel and a busy week this week. Other than a wine date with ladies tonight and a double-date tomorrow night, I’m free and clear. Can’t wait to relax a bit! Happy Friday, Gina! Enjoy your weekend!! 🙂

  16. Tabatha on July 24, 2015 at 12:31 pm

Liv is just adorable, she looks so much like you, and the memory of her feeling her sister kick is just priceless! That salmon stir-fry is definitely going on my dinner recipe list, and I can’t wait for PiYo to start on Monday!!

  17. Jennifer on July 24, 2015 at 3:25 pm

Is the piyo challenge separate from August workout cal, ? Also, will there be meal ideas with August? Been loving the summer shape up eats!

  18. April on July 25, 2015 at 8:51 am

Liv is looking so cute (and grown up!) these pics! So exciting that she was able to feel her baby sister’s kicks 🙂

Yum, I need to try your salmon stir fry recipe. It looks like a perfect light summer meal. Have a great weekend!

I’ll never forget the look on my husband’s face when he felt our little girl move the first time. It was awesome.

    Hey Gina,

I was checking out your beach body store, as my husband and I are considering getting me one of the programs. I’m trying to break away from only running, including more yoga and strength into my weekly workout routine. I was very interested in the PiYo, is this something you would recommend? Also, when looking through your store, which package or option offers would you recommend? I am new to the DVD route of workouts (a little lost/overwhelmed looking at it all) but really think it would help with work schedule and breaking the running habit!

    Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2015 at 9:28 am

      hi melissa!
hope you are having a great weekend! i definitely think that piyo sounds like it would be a great fit. it has some great dynamic movement and stretching, which would complement your running routine. if you’re looking for protein powder -i’m obsessed with the chocolate vegan shakeology- the challenge pack is the smartest option because you get the DVDs at a crazy discount. if you need help with anything, send me an email! fitnessista at gmail

  22. erin on July 26, 2015 at 1:51 pm

PIYO! Yes! Please do a Spotlight on PIYO once you’ve given it a go. I’m curious to hear whether it gets your heart rate up.

i will definitely do a focus on post when i finished the first 4 weeks!

  23. Bethany on July 26, 2015 at 7:33 pm

PIYO review please!!!! I’ve been wanting to try it, but I am nervous if it’s ‘enough’…..ya know.

  24. Melissa on July 27, 2015 at 12:45 pm

I am definitely curious about the Fixate book. They had a few sample recipes out before the book came out, and none of them sounded that interesting to me. But I do like the premise behind it.

    • Fitnessista on July 27, 2015 at 2:46 pm

after looking through it, i’m the most excited for the shakeology and dessert recipes. the rest look pretty blah

  25. Jennifer @ Tri Stuff I Like on July 27, 2015 at 5:01 pm

You had me at Amy’s Drive Thru! Adding it to my to-do list for my next trip up north! Their prices are super reasonable, too!

Is that a Crunch tank you’re wearing? I JUST joined today in Pittsburgh and am so excited! How do you like it?

    • Fitnessista on July 28, 2015 at 10:51 pm

yes!! so awesome! i only do the online workouts- i haven’t made it to a real crunch yet 🙂

  27. Safa on August 12, 2015 at 7:54 am

I really liked that article ‘I don’t know how you do it everyday’. It has pointed out to me to be more positive about this parenting thing than just always complaining about the spit-ups and tantrums. Thanks for sharing that.
