Friday Faves

Hi friends! It’s THE WEEKEND. Anyone else super excited for it?

Holly

(Pretty holly in a jar.)

We’re going to get our Christmas lights up -wahoo!- and I get a nap, which is already a highlight. The Pilot and I promised that we’ll gift each other a nap at least once over the upcoming weekends until we’re sleeping kind of normally again. I like this plan a lot.

Last Saturday, I napped for two hours and wanted to cry it was so beautiful.

Snuggle w p

Yesterday, we had dinner here at the house, and our beloved doula stopped by for a visit. I haven’t seen her since we were in the hospital, and I was so glad for the chance to hang out and visit with her, plus she could finally snuggle with baby P.

Some things on the radar for the weekend:

Farmers Market

Watching basketball

Meal planning and prepping: I realized I need to make some frozen breakfasts for Liv since the mornings have been a little insane. I’m going to make her some French toast and pancakes to easily heat up, along with amazeballs, more of these cookies (I’m obsessed) +  protein options for the week.

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear your faves, too, so please feel free to shout it out in the comments section if you’d like!

It’s even better because Liv is now quoting from Elf. Yesterday, she told me she sticks to the 4 major food groups.

Interesting new research on safe yoga poses for pregnancy.

Kids’ unintentionally rude Christmas drawings.

Coconut milk latte with one pump gingerbread = my current festive drink of choice.

Trying out a new protein powder:

Perfect fit

I’ve been curious about the Perfect Fit protein for a while, and since it’s my mission to try every vegan protein in the sea, I ordered a tub. I’m not drinking my favorite Shakeology right now (and miss it dearly!), so I was looking for a protein option with simple ingredients.

The verdict: I liked it. The ingredients are simple and it has a pleasant vanilla taste.

Perfect fit 2

Was it my fave? No.

The flavor is really nice and it’s not too artificial or sweet-tasting. The after taste is a little woodsy, and I’m not crazy about the texture. It’s pretty chalky. Also, maybe I have issues but I had a hard time opening the tub! I basically took a shower in it before I could drink it haha. I’ll definitely be drinking and using it, but will be looking forward to my Shakeology reunion.

My protein powder rankings:

1) Shakeology (Chocolate vegan)

2) Daily Burn Fuel-6

3) Sun Warrior

4) Perfect Fit

5) Vega

Having our tree up! Every time I walk into the living room, it makes me so happy. It’s definitely my favorite room in the house.

Don’t forget that Favorite Things giveaways are still in full swing. Enter the Rewined giveaway here and the Fabletics one here! I’ll have 4 more coming at you next week (!) and then our grand finale giveaway the following week.

Have a very happy Friday!

xoxo

Do you mind me asking how much protein you try to eat, or even your macro distribution? I’m trying to hit ~125 grams of protein a day but I don’t react well to dairy or processed protein bars so it’s hard! I need ideas please 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:08 am

right now, i’m just trying to get in protein in general. usually, i like a 60-20-20 % split when i’m working out, or 60-25-15ish

  2. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on December 4, 2015 at 7:12 am

I’ve forever been a fan of Vega, but now you’ve peaked my interest in a few others. I am very picky about protein powders and cannot do anything with dairy. A Shakeology purchase may be in my future.

I LOVE fixer upper. Just watched the new season last night! Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your nap! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:06 am

thank you, friend! hope you have a great weekend, too

  4. Aleah @ Their Fit Life on December 4, 2015 at 7:16 am

That’s good to hear you like shakeology! I just got the chocolate vegan delivered last night and I’ve never tried it before- I’m excited. I’d rather do that than be the bag lady I am now meticulously adding things to my smoothie everyday. Most of the things I add are already in there. Now I don’t have to figure out what to do with a 1 lb bag of maca haha.

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:06 am

it’s the best!!! i hope you love it 🙂

    • masala girl on December 5, 2015 at 8:39 pm

if you can do dairy, i LOVE it in yogurt! i do 1 -2 tsp maca in 1 container siggis or fage or stonyfield, some liquid to thin (soymilk, kefir, cold tea/coffee, water) then stir, or add mix ins: fresh/dried fruit, nuts, cacao nibs, protein (i like vega one), cinnamon. ITS SO GOOD.
and you just reminded me that i havent had it since before thanksgiving -_- 🙁

  5. Anna on December 4, 2015 at 7:27 am

That vegetable platter looks amazing… There’s nothing like roasted vegetables dipped in creamy sauce 🙂 I dipped roasted Brussels sprouts in sriracaha aioli last night and man, was it delicious!

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:06 am

      that sounds AMAZING

  6. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on December 4, 2015 at 7:41 am

Hi Gina! Yay for naps for you! I’ve wanted to try Perfect Fit, so thanks for the quick review. And we’re putting up a tree tonight, so I look forward to having some festivity in the house as well. Happy Friday! 🙂

Oh man, so many awesome nuggets in this post.

    1. Can we talk about how ADORABLE Liv’s hair is in a top knot bun?

    2. I live for fixer upper, and turned my husband onto it too. Chip and Joana make me smile 🙂 Oh, and I secretly want to buy the ugliest house in a neighborhood here in Boulder and make her perrrrrty 🙂

    3. Quoting elf? There is nothing better. My 3 year old niece told me the other day, “No cookies for you,” basically rephrasing “no soup for you” haha, I died. They as secretly soaking up eveeythingggggg we say and do, it’s awesome and scary all at the same time!

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:06 am

aww i love her hair in a top knot, too!
haha it’s one of the best shows out there 🙂

ohh i haven’t tried that one!

  9. Megan B. on December 4, 2015 at 8:31 am

Since you are on a mission to try all the vegan proteins out there, have you tried Arbonne? I’m an independent consultant with them, but would buy their protein anyway because its great: totally vegan, no soy, no artificial sugars. And tastes yummy. No weird chalkiness that sometimes happens with vegan protein powders. I’d be happy to send you some to try out! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:05 am

i haven’t! i will check out the ingredient list. thank you!

  10. Erin Hack on December 4, 2015 at 8:35 am

      YES. so good!!

  11. Erin on December 4, 2015 at 9:19 am

Why is Shakeology your fave? I’ve tried PF, SunWarrior, and my personal fave, Vega (greens & vanilla), but I’m curious about Shakeology.

    thanks!

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 11:04 am

it tastes like a delicious dessert and i love all of the superfoods that are added. i wish it was organic, but the taste and nutrients are amazing

  12. Cari B on December 4, 2015 at 9:32 am

Thankyouthankyou for your honest opinion on the PerfectFit protein. I have been super duper curious to try it and can never get myself to fork out the money. I almost bought it this week, but decided to save my mulah.

That yoga study is interesting and also leaves me very hopeful that more comprehensive studies will be done on various forms of fitness during pregnancy. Sometimes I think the precautions and limitations go too far!

Besides Shakeology are there any other protein powders that you like?

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2015 at 5:02 pm

yes, there’s a list in the post with all of my faves 🙂

  19. Neha on December 4, 2015 at 4:42 pm

Have you tried Orgain? I absolutely love it! It’s organic, good ingredients and absolutely no chalky texture/taste. I have been curious to hear your thoughts about it.

  20. Sam on December 4, 2015 at 8:16 pm

Thanks for the honest review of perfect fit! Sadly, Tone It Up has developed such a cult like following and mentality that its fans have lost all objectivity when it comes to judging their products and meal plans. I have always wondered what their powder was actually like.

Also, love that Liv is quoting Elf! What an awesome movie. Have a great weekend!

My favorite holiday scent is the Christmas tree!

  22. Stephanie Woods on December 5, 2015 at 6:11 am

Oh my goodness.. I love fixer upper! I totally binge watch it on netflex on Sunday afternoons, dreaming about buying a house here in NM. We just moved from the Houston area where we had a 2000 sq ft house to a 950 sq ft condo. House prices in TX are so muchcheaper than here! Thanks for the link, hilarious! And on a different note, I’m praying that P’s reflux gets better soon!

  23. Sheena @ Paws and Pavement on December 5, 2015 at 12:51 pm

Just wondering why you aren’t drinking Shakeology right now? I just started selling it this summer and my favorite is the Greenberry although I love the Chocolate with Greek yogurt at night.

  24. Kalliopi on December 5, 2015 at 5:39 pm

Your tree looks amazing !I will be away from home this Christmas for work and feel homesick!Nice suggestions for vegan powders!Shakeology is also my one and only but I am curious to try other powders too.Thank;s for the list!!!

have you heard of/tried skoop? i’ve been hearing a lot about it lately. i love vega because it has greens in it! so while the taste isnt 100%, i mix it with other things and like it 🙂

Your daughter is absolutely precious in that shirt – and so great that she’s regularly quoting Elf! Also – thanks for the Starbucks treat tip. Sounds delicious.

when you can have whey protein again, would be really curious what you think of the les mills good protein (http://www.lesmills.com/merchandise/les-mills-good-protein/)…

  28. Tiffany on December 7, 2015 at 3:42 am

Why aren’t you drinking Shakeology now?

  29. Stephanie on December 18, 2015 at 2:56 pm

You should try the Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein, it’s hands down, the BEST protein powder I have ever had!

    • Fitnessista on December 18, 2015 at 9:36 pm
