Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend?

20160124 142442

We are meeting up with friends, I’m spending some time working on Winter Shape Up stuff and the post baby bod plan, and we’ll decompress and enjoy some time together. It’s going to be a great one.

Congratulations on an AWESOME first week of Winter Shape Up, and your check-ins here on the blog, on Anne’s page, through our Facebook group, and on Twitter/Instagram. I love seeing your beautiful sweaty faces. Also, since many of you have been commenting or hanging out here on the blog for a while (thank you!), it’s always exciting to me when I can put a face to a name. Don’t forget to check in over the next few days to enter this week’s Daily Harvest giveaway.

I’m officially obsessed with the Strawberry Shorty; so fresh, and since there isn’t added sugar (just dates), it’s the perfect amount of sweetness.

Strawberry daily harvest

(I like to use less liquid so it’s more like ice cream than a smoothie)

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please feel free to shout it out in the comments section!

Liv’s drawing. She has really gotten into art and drawing over the past few months. She can write her name beautifully, and has been creating such cool doodles and painting at the kitchen table. This one blew me away!!! It’s “a guy with glasses and spiky hair, and a pug.”

See the pug in the top right corner?

This combo. When I teach the early weekend barre class, I’ll combine almond milk, chocolate vegan Shakeology, cashew butter, oats and chia seeds in a jar. It tastes like a delicious dessert, is portable, and keeps me full for the entire morning.

It doesn’t look pretty, but it tastes pretty. 😉

Barre snack

Dinner at Fish Market with the fam while they were in town. We hadn’t been since I was pregnant, and it was everrrrrything.

W the girls at fish market

Anyone who uses shrimp as a cocktail garnish is a friend of ours. 😉

Pilot at fish market

I got the full order of mussels instead of the appetizer size, and it ended up being a smart move because Liv loves them.

Mussels

The almond milk chai and gluten-free zucchini bread from Jungle Java.

Jungle java

I’m not a huge zucchini bread person, but this one was calling my name. I’ve thought about it every day since.

Hot yoga at Yoga Six. Is it just me, or do you guys think that yoga sweat is different than regular sweat? Yoga sweat feels so much cleaner, even when you’re lying on your mat, totally drenched. (Don’t get me wrong, I still shower afterwards and everything haha.)

Hot yoga

Wine pairings for Girl Scout cookies. Samoas FTW.

Well it’s about time.

This set, particularly the mask. I picked this up over the holidays and have added it into the rotation. I notice that my skin feels softer and looks brighter after using the mask.

How much in race fees is too much? ($200+ for a half marathon is crazypants)

Should everyone go gluten-free?

Why getting a sitter to sit at a coffee shop alone or get a massage sometimes is totally worth it.

12 emotional stages of going to the gym first thing in the morning.

Happy Friday, friends!

xoxo

Hahaha! I was thinking the exact same thing about yoga sweat last Sunday when I went to Hot yoga! I was drenched but it felt different… Glad I’m not the only one who thinks this!

The 12 emotional stages of a morning workout could NOT have been more me this morning trying to get to spin. I laid in bed for at LEAST 5 minutes deciding if I was actually getting up 🙂

As for a Friday Fave, I’m sure you’ve seen this, but Kristen & Dax have to make my list:

Wondering what you think of shakeology while breastfeeding? I know you weren’t able to continue due to the reflux but I thought you might still have some insight. Your post about avoiding it during pregnancy was super informative. I’m 36 weeks and miss it so much! I don’t know if I should wait until baby is older and having some food (so like 6-9 months) or if it would be ok sooner than that.

I really liked Anne’s post on should everyone go gluten free. There are so many misconceptions about why or why not you should eat gluten. Happy weekend!

A quick question regarding Winter Shape Up. I am a week late getting started. Should I do the Week1 next week, or jump right in Week2 to do the same stuff as everyone else and do the Week1 last? (Are they getting progressively harder?)

I am looking forward to getting started with WSU. THANK YOU for the truly free excellent workout plan and keep up the good work! I saw another “free” workout last month online and it turned out to be full of advertising for products that won’t be even be delivered to Europe!

Hi, I was just wondering where you got the jacket you are wearing in the picture above? I am on the hunt for a spring jacket and that one looks perfect! Thanks.

I am a very newbie in yoga and i ve heard about hot yoga. What’s your take on it? Silly question is it only about doing yoga in higher temps or its something more to it? Also you are a brave one, I cant make myself to eat muscles they always smell funny to me…Baby P grew so big already! She is such a cutie!

Morning gym going…I died. Too true! Working out at home in the morning…even worse…no mental prep time…no extra motivation…just go! hahahaha

Happy friday! I’m pretty grateful that the little one is finally acting like she feels better today after 3 days of yuckiness.

Hot yoga sweat is definitely the least gross of all exercise sweat. It almost feels cleansing while regular workout sweat, well, doesn’t! lol

  12. Kariann on January 29, 2016 at 9:51 am

That hot yoga sweat – yes! Also the emotional stages of working out early in the morning…SO much yes! My goal is to wake up at 5 on Monday morning so I can hit the power intervals class at 5:45am…because I don’t get done with my day til late *cry* let’s see how it goes…

Your weekend sounds like a good balance of things you love 🙂 this weekend my goal is to decompress after a hectic week…must do some homework, chores around the house, prep my meals, but also gym and spend some time with friends I haven’t seen in awhile. It’ll be good!

Love Liv’s artwork! You should check out artforkidshub.com
They provide step by step how to draw all kinds of things. It’s pretty cool. She might enjoy it! And you could do like me and learn to draw a few things yourself to show her. My son thinks I’m the coolest when I bust out my awesome drawing skills 😉

Hi Gina! Just a heads up that the family link isn’t working :(. But looking forward to the read 🙂

That strawberry date smoothie sounds amazing!!

  16. s on January 29, 2016 at 11:12 am

that almond milk chai and bread sounds amazing! i’ve never been to a restaurant where they garnish cocktails with shrimp, but that sounds pretty awesome in my book, too!

Love the wine pairings for girl scout cookies. Talk about a good combo!

  18. Jessie R on January 29, 2016 at 12:13 pm

LOOL the stages of morning workouts! For me, the best part is getting to work early (we have an awesome fitness center) is getting a front row parking spot! It’s like special treat when I leave, and my car is right there! Love the art 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 29, 2016 at 10:28 pm

yes! i remember my early workout days and i was always stoked that my car was close when i left

  19. Amanda B. on January 29, 2016 at 2:05 pm

Love your take on oats in a jar with the Shakeology. Any idea of the ratios/measurements?

    • Fitnessista on January 29, 2016 at 10:17 pm

yep!! 1/3 cup oats, 1/2 scoop shakeo, 1 heaping tablespoon cashew butter, 1 tablespoon chia seeds, sprinkle of cinnamon, almond milk to almost the top of the jar

  20. Crystal on January 29, 2016 at 2:58 pm

Omg I finally got that Glamglow set…I love the mask. It kind of burns/tingles at first, but it’s worth it bc my skin feels so much smoother after. Have a good weekend!

    • Fitnessista on January 29, 2016 at 10:16 pm

ahhhh i LOVE it. hope you have a great weekend, too!

  21. Nikki on January 30, 2016 at 5:16 am

Has anybody said Liv looks like you and P looks like your husband? It’s crazy similar in today’s post!

  22. Paolo U on January 30, 2016 at 6:14 am

I would love to say that I’m busy working out, but the truth is that I am just sitting in front of my computer most of the time. I tend to forgot to workout nowadays. Is not that I don’t love to workout, but the problem is that I sleep most of the time.

Great post! I have to try these daily harvest noms….always looking for healthy and easy snacks!
