Friday Faves

Hi friends! HAPPY FRIDAY and cheers to the weekend. What are you up to? Livi has a birthday party, we are having friends over tonight, a date night, and spring cleaning around here. The weather is absolutely amazing and I’m really excited to soak up an awesome weekend with family and friends.

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web! I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please shout it out in the comments section if you’d like to join in the fun. 🙂

Trying out Rent the Runway unlimited. (<— referral link. We each get a $20 credit!) I canceled my JustFab subscription because I haven’t been using it a ton, and figured I would try this instead since we have so many weddings coming up. With the unlimited, I was able to get two dresses for Tucson weddings in a couple of weeks, plus a date night dress, for less than it would have been to buy one at the mall. Excited to see how it works out!

Has anyone tried wearing orange sunglasses before bed to help with melatonin? I think this is so interesting…

A tea for everything.

“Cards Against Humanity” for parents.

Family walks! I’m very slowly adding in time, and for now, I can make it around the block very comfortably. Next week, I’m going for two blocks. Baby steps.

Walks w liv and bell

P’s tiny ballet slippers.

Ballet slippers

Almond joy chia pudding.

Betsy has this slow cooker and I think I need it. It does a combo of high heat cooking in addition to steaming and slow cooking, My mind is blown.

Your amazing comments on this post! So much great advice here.

Making this egg white pizza bake asap.

Per Caitlin’s suggestion, I downloaded this book. I’m excited to dive it.

Do what you want to: this doctor’s advice for living. I’ve seen Slomo quite a few times, and have always wanted to learn more about his story. So awesome.

How to eat for running.

The P smile of the day:

I just cant

Happy Friday, friends! What’s something that you’re looking forward to this weekend?

I’m off to do some PBB work, and getting things ready for tonight’s little dinner party.

xoxo

Gina

Need a workout? I got you. Try this compound workout, which works multiple muscle groups at the same time.

P has such a big smile! I don’t think I could ever imagine her with a sad face. Off to check out that crockpot because I use mine all summer when it’s too hot to turn the oven on!

i think that’s what made the reflux even worse, because when she feels good, she is the happiest little thing

Baby girl is such a beauty. It always blows my mind when chocolate milk is suggested for post run nutrition. Just a sugary drink. Might as will have a milkshake. But i do struggle figuring out preworkout and post workout eats. Im up really early to workout so i never feel like eating much. Today was 2 cutie oranges.

    • melodie on April 15, 2016 at 7:51 am

Specifically to aid in weight loss. I mean if that wasn’t an issue maybe I’d also be gulping down chocolate milk. But i still feel like it wouldn’t be a healthy option.

      • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:16 pm

i can’t get on board with it, but i know a lot of people who swear by it. i’m just not a cow milk fan in general though

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:13 pm

which one are you going to?!

  12. Lauren S. on April 15, 2016 at 9:14 am

Hi Gina! The combination slow cooker from Cuisinart looks awesome. This start up actually is creating something similar but it can bake and convection bake and broil instead of just slow cook. I am ordering one to replace my microwave! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1492357784/tovala-the-smart-oven-that-makes-home-cooking-easy/description

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:13 pm

Sounds like a fun weekend! I’ll be spending time with my parents who are in town for the weekend. 🙂

In terms of the orange-glasses, here’s a slightly less weird way to get a similar effect – https://justgetflux.com <– Software that changes the lighting on your computer screen (less blue, more orange) as you get closer to "bedtime"! I've been using it for a while and sort of forget I even have it until other people ask me what's wrong with my screen. haha

    Have a good Friday!

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:11 pm

i’ve been meaning to download something like that. thank you!

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:11 pm

right?! for proms i always managed to find a dress that was on an awesome sale though

  17. Tracy on April 15, 2016 at 11:00 am

I’ve been wanting that slow cooker for a while now but I’m having trouble justifying it since I have a perfectly good slow cooker already! The browning option is a game changer!

    Happy TGIF 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2016 at 12:11 pm

that’s how i feel. ours works perfectly fine! but browning in the same container would be AMAZING

  18. april on April 15, 2016 at 2:06 pm

p has the absolute cutest smile! she’s a little ray of sunshine 🙂

  19. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment on April 15, 2016 at 2:41 pm

OMG Liv’s ballet shoes are so adorable. I am definitely going to try the chamomile tea skin saver. Great idea. xo Lauren

  20. Janice on April 15, 2016 at 5:20 pm

Hello lovely! I have that Cuisinart slow cooker and can assure you it rocks all functions! Fortunately my old one died so I didn’t have to justify the purchase!

I’m also loving De La Terre Skincare herbal teas. The blends are based on the seasons and are delicious and healing but can also be used as a skin treatment. Actually all of their products are wonderful and very gentle.

  21. Andrea on April 15, 2016 at 5:45 pm

I’ve had my eye on this slow cooker…
    http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/all-clad-gourmet-slow-cooker-with-all-in-one-browning/?pkey=cpressure-rice-slow-cookers%7Celectrics-slow-cookers%7C&&cpressure-rice-slow-cookers|electrics-slow-cookers|
Trying to decide if I’d use it enough for the price. Think the one you posted could be a good option though, and a better price, too!

  22. Erika S. on April 15, 2016 at 7:37 pm

Omgosh…Livi is growing up so quickly…looking like a lovely lil lady with luscious locks (and toned lil arms)!

Love P’s ballet flats & that smile!!

  23. melissa on April 16, 2016 at 3:53 pm

I was wanting to thank you for talking so openly in your previous post about ppd. It gave me courage ti start seeing a therapist, and not feel ashamed or embarrassed. Also had blood work, all was well, and my Dr prescribed Lexipro ( the generic) . I wanted to know if u would be willing to do a follow up post as to how u r feeling. I’m wondering how did u know it was helping? Any side effects? I respect your right if u choose not to- thank you for your transparency thus far- it gave me the courage to seek help .

    • Fitnessista on April 18, 2016 at 9:51 pm

that makes me so happy to hear. i hope you’re feeling much better! i’ll send you an email now <3

  24. Errign on April 17, 2016 at 4:03 am

You need an instant pot! Sautéing, slow cooking, pressure cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker all in one! Love mine!

  25. Grace on April 17, 2016 at 11:05 am

I love the philosophy behind Slomo. When he says, “I thought I was crazy because I was so happy”, that resonates with me. As a society we’re taught to always be striving for more and accomplishing more. I think it’s a foreign feeling for many people to just “be” and experience happiness.

John/Slomo does have a lot of privileges that allowed to him to transition to this new lifestyle fairly easily. He’s a college educated white man who lived most of his life on a doctor’s salary. We can all take aspects of his philosophy and incorporate them into our lives, but rollerblading 24/7 is not financially realistic for most people.

I’ve been super curious about the blue light blocking glasses. Just haven’t taken the plunge yet!
