Friday Faves (+ first flamenco class!)

Happy Friday! How’s the morning? Anything fun planned for the weekend?

I tackled a 2015 fitness resolution: took a flamenco class!

Picture me stomping, clapping, yelling “Ole!” and crying sweet tears of joy.

Ok, it was nothing like that.

Flamenco stuff 1 of 1

It set my soul FREE.

Flamenco is something that I’ve wanted to try for years. What stopped me? I felt kind of intimidated because it’s an entirely new-to-me style of dance. I knew I would be starting from scratch, and I let that deter me from even trying. With a nudge from the Pilot (who knew I would love it), I finally took a class. During the hour, we went over arm positions, hand movement, the basic steps, and worked on a Sevillana. Our instructor is from Spain, and is kind, lovely, and insanely talented. I’m so excited to be learning from her and can’t wait to go back.

Some more faves from the week:

The Pilot is a new fan of amazeballs and Paleo bread. *Taps fingers together creepily* Welcome to the party.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars performing “Uptown Funk” on Ellen. I usually have Ellen on in the afternoons while I blog/work, and stopped to watch this entire thing. Not only does he sound incredible live, but the dancing is awesome.

7 pitfalls of otherwise healthy people.

You can now send glitter to your enemies. I thought this was hilarious, but the founder is apparently regretting it.

Special thanks to my friends at Popsugar for featuring my double chocolate Paleo gooey cakes!

This Fresh lip treatment. The sheer rosy tint is perfectly neutral, and it’s super moisturizing for the dry winter air.

You gotta try a pasodoble class if you like the flamenco!

I finally got myself to attend one of the fitness classes at my gym and let’s just say I LOVED IT!

  3. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on January 16, 2015 at 4:38 am

I LOVE Uptown Funk! You know you’ve made it when you can do a music video in a wife beater, pink jacket and curlers in your hair and STILL look super cool. One thing that’s making me happy this week is plans to see one of my besties for lunch tomorrow. It’s been forever and I’m pumped to catch up (and drink some green juice!)

I love Friends and the list of modern day Friends episodes made me laugh so hard!!

I am glad I am not the only one who “taps fingers together creepily!” I especially love doing it in my 8th grade classroom. My students think I am a dork, but I love it!

Mmmm those paleo balls look so delish! My husband just began his journey as being paleo, it has been amazing!

When I lived in Spain, many of my friends took flamenco class. I didn’t because I thought I was too fat and would look weird. Gosh I’m so glad my body image has changed since then. Maybe I should find a class? Ole!

How fun! I am so happy for you that you tried a class. Glad to see all the pictures and reviews of the book. So exciting! I love that Fresh Lip Balm too. A nice hint of color. Happy Friday!

I LOVE that you are willing to try new things. Gosh, and I love that they even offer a class like that around you. That is sooo cool.
What made me happy this week? Sprouting mong beans haha, and planning a trip to NZ. Life is awesome!!

I saw the glitter bomb story this morning too! Hilarius! My husband and I have been getting glitter cards for our “not favorite” relatives for years!

The Today Show puppy is making me happy every morning!

I love that someone commented, “You made your glitter bed.”
I actually interned at Fresh when I was in college and their lip balm was always my favorite product. I would also highly recommend their brown sugar scrub, though it can make your tub/shower floor a bit oily and slippery.
Gotta love when the husband FINALLY realizes what you why you think something was so great!

I saw Bruno Mars in concert this summer and it was hands down one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too. His musicians seem to love being on stage with him.

  14. Paula on January 16, 2015 at 6:58 am

You know, I wasn’t always sure about my feelings for Bruno Mars, but Uptown Funk solidifies it. The man is a talented musician and performer. The first time I heard this song on the radio, I thought I was in an old-school club back in DC!

  15. Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine on January 16, 2015 at 7:13 am

AH! I so want to take a Flamenco class!

Hi Gina! So awesome, I’d love to go to a flamenco dance class, but would definitely feel awkward. I actually tried this hip-hop online dance class briefly last week just for fun. Oh and I love that Bruno Mars song. I met my hubby for the very first time six years ago today. We’re celebrating this weekend with a little jaunt up to Napa. Happy Friday! 🙂

  18. Amber Schumann on January 16, 2015 at 7:39 am

That Uptown video just made me like the song that much more. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to hear it now without busting into that jig they do 😉

  19. Laura B @ FitMamaLove on January 16, 2015 at 8:16 am

Good for you for trying your first flamenco class! Happy weekend! 🙂

  20. Natalie P on January 16, 2015 at 8:30 am

Ahhhh….that song!! LOVE! I haven’t heard it without feeling the need to break it down 😉

Good for you for trying something outside of your comfort zone! I need to push through my fear of lifting heavier weights.

  21. Alana on January 16, 2015 at 9:15 am

Isn’t that fresh rose lip balm the BEST? I am so obsessed. Totally worth the eye-roll from my husband (“you shelled out HOW much for chapstick?!”) 🙂

  22. Kay @ Kay Bueno on January 16, 2015 at 9:28 am

I didn’t like Uptown Funk until I just saw it live.

But, I’m totally all over Fresh. All their products make me feel so amazing.

  23. Sara on January 16, 2015 at 9:38 am

I’ve been wanting to try the Fresh lip treatment for a while… I think I’m going to take the plunge over the weekend!

  24. Christina @ The Beautiful Balance on January 16, 2015 at 10:26 am

Obsessed with Uptown Funk and Bruno Mars in general. Seriously has to be one of the most talented individuals out there today.

  25. Jen@jpabstfitness on January 16, 2015 at 10:58 am

Obsessed with Uptown Funk! My 9 month old laughs so hard when it comes on the radio now, probably because her older siblings dance like maniacs whenever they hear it 😉

  26. Mary Beth on January 16, 2015 at 11:27 am

Flamenco sounds like fuuuuun! I would love to take some dance lessons again. Gotta check out that glitter bomb thing.

  27. queenoffitness on January 16, 2015 at 4:47 pm

Wow, I seriously must be living under a rock! This was my first listen of that song and Ellen said it’s the number 1 song in the country? The crowd participation and dancing was incredible! Very reminiscent of the sugar hill gang.
something that made me happy this week is one of the teachers I work with retired. Today was his last day and while I am sad to see him go, I am excited for his new chapter! He is one of those old soul guys with class. We treated him like a king this week.

  28. Erika on January 17, 2015 at 12:03 pm

Ahhh I love Bruno Mars! I haven’t seen him in concert yet but I hope he goes on tour again soon.

    Have you seen this video?
    http://ellentube.com/videos/0_15c20lrd

Kai sang Bruno’s song When I was Your Man back on Ellen when he was 4 and this is another video of him singing Uptown Funk. Such a cute kid!
