Give the girl some carbs

Hey everyone! Hope your morning before Shrimpsgiving is going well 😀 Today is already SO much better than yesterday was… I woke up to a sleeping pilot (who had been gone for a couple of days), partially-sane puppies and a bowl of raw cacao cereal:cereal

***For more info on the cereal, click here

I had a half cup of raw cacao cereal with 1/2 sliced nanner, lots of cinnamon and a scoop of almond butter on top. While I eat the cereal, I break off a piece of almond butter to have in every bite 😀 It was SO GOOD—just like a raw version of cocoa krispies

And just like it’s HFCS-laden counterpart, it turned the milk into chocolate milk (cacao milk?)

chocmilk

To rewind to last night, I had some appointments at the gym, so I did an hour of ellipticizing (split into 3 parts in between appointments) and then came back to the casa.

I don’t usually like to turn to foods for comfort, but all I wanted after such a rough day was CARBS (and wine, obviously)

So carbs I had.

tamales

You know things are serious when I break into the Tucson tamale stash from the freezer 😀
I had two with an egg puff (1 egg + 1 egg white), cayenne and some spinach with Goddess dressing.

More carbs while watching Dancing with the Stars:

corn

Plain organic popcorn with cinnamon and vegan chocolate chips.

Muuuuuuuuch better 😀 I did some work on the computer, and then pilot came home around midnight after his trip from you-know-where. It was nice to see his face- I like him 😉

The plan for the day is:

-gym with Jeni (legs day! Owwww)

-Making everything for Shrimpsgiving, minus the shrimp and stuffing (I like the stuffing to be moist on the inside, crunchy on top… kind tough to do if its made in advance)

-Going to fight the crowd at Honeybaked Ham for the pilot’s turkey and ham (since it’s just for one person, I figured it’d be much easier to buy the meat already good to go instead of dealing with it tomorrow)

-Training appointment

-Meeting Michelle and her pilot for drinks (we re-scheduled for tonight so our pilots could go, since mine just got home)

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s tip: Just eat it. That is the same advice I’ve been giving to clients when they ask what they can eat on Thanksgiving. If you want to eat it, do it. If you choose to indulge in something scrumptious, try to make sure it’s something you can only have once every blue moon. If your family dinner consists of a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken, I’d recommend going for something better, because you can have that at any time. The things worth splurging on are ones that didn’t come out of a package (or drive through)- we’re talking about your aunt’s homemade mac n’ cheese, mom’s sweet potato casserole, GOOD stuff that’s a special treat! I don’t recommend looking at the holidays through a “diet” or “food” point of view. Think of it as a wonderful opportunity to spend with –or be driven crazy by- your familia. The delicious eats are just the icing on the proverbial cake 😉

Something to do: Make sure to head over to my good friend Katie’s blog. She is donating her FoodBuzz revenues this month to charity –so sweet, right?!- so make sure to stop by and click around while you’re there 🙂

Love the outlook. 🙂 I give me clients the same advice. It is a day to enjoy, not a day to restrict and dislike yourself.

That’s such a great tip for holiday eating! I totally agree that holiday’s are meant to be enjoyed, not spent counting calories and stressing about what you should or shouldn’t eat. Great advice 🙂

Glad your pilot is home safe and sound 🙂 I can’t believe you’re buying a turkey and a ham for one person. That’s to funny! My hubby would love to have his own turkey and ham at thanksgiving too! ha Guys and their metabolisms. It’s just not fair! 🙂

I agree with your holiday eating advice. I try to be good all the days around the holiday so I can enjoy myself on that special day. I’m doing all the cooking this year so by the time it gets to the table, usually I don’t want a lot of it because I’ve been looking at it for so long. 🙂

Oh my gosh, Gina, I literally screamed when I saw this post in my google reader (yeah, I’m a nerd). OMG you are sooooo sweet!!! I am so incredibly grateful that you would mention the charity drive (especially since it’s kinda flagging this week b/c of the holiday). I can’t tell you how much your compassion means to me (and the people who will be helped by generous people like you). You truly are amazing. It seriously warms my heart, and I am so thankful (haha it’s a good day to be thankful) that I know such a wonderful friend.

Oh and um yeah, that cereal? Going to have to check that out right now. I loved cocoa krispies as a kid, and the turned-it-into-chocolate-milk part was my favorite!!

Love you so much! Happy Thanksgiving Gina 🙂

Jealous of the shrimp on thanksgiving! I am not a turkey or ham fan at all!

  9. Lisa on November 25, 2009 at 10:29 am

I just got back from Publizle to get my Thanksgiving supplies; and getting ready to make your Pumpkin Cheesecake. I’m already worrying about what to make healthy w/ all the leftovers. What ideas do you have? One thing we make is “turkey carcass” soup; doesn’t that sound appetizing?

This might sound weird, but I ALWAYS lose a couple of lbs during the holidays. The food is SO tasty that I only eat a little bit of each item, and I am so busy catching up with family and such that I don’t have the chance to overeat.

In the summer, however, when laying on the beach? My mouth doesn’t stop moving, and my belly isn’t happy (even if it’s all fruit). SO WEIRD!

your breaky looks just like chocolate rice krispie treats, so good!
    great advice on the thanksgiving!

I love your tip today.. how sad would it be if it was Thanksgiving, a day well known for his deliciously large meal, and you felt like you couldn’t partake? That would be no fun at all! Happy Thanksgiving Gina!
Ps. The Guinness cupcakes were a huge success! 🙂

  13. Shelby on November 25, 2009 at 10:52 am

Mmm, that cereal looks scrumptious! I need to buy some asap!

The tip for today is just what I needed to hear, thanks girly 🙂

Carbs are the best comfort food! I’m glad you give your clients such good advice. Holidays only come around once a year! INDULGE 🙂 I am going to miss stuffing this year since it’s too far from vegan for me to eat. 🙁 Enjoy having the Pilot home! Glad he got home safe and hopefully he gets to be home for a while.

  17. Gillian Young on November 25, 2009 at 11:06 am

I’ve got to try chocolate chips in my popcorn! I just came back from Italy and became a huge carb hugger! Normally I am not a huge bread eater, but my life will never be the same without bruschetta and bread to sop up all the olive oil and balsamic from my salads!

  18. carolinebee on November 25, 2009 at 11:08 am

Woo tomorrow is leggings day fa sho! So exciting about your dance classes 😀 I hope u can throw down at the Ham Store, haha!!
PS had to chime in on u bringing your own Ezekiel- you’ve honestly made me SO much less self-conscious about bringing my own condiment/bread whatev to a restaurant…I don’t know why i was ever so concerned about it, but I’m all about it now 😀 Happy thanksgiving G!

I’m all good with eating on Thanksgiving, but what about all the leftovers? Do you have any advice?

  20. K on November 25, 2009 at 11:38 am

I love the carby-carbs! I agree with that tip as well! Thanksgiving and Christmas are my two ‘just eat it’ days. I’d be miserable if I deprived myself on either of those two holidays.

  21. chrysta on November 25, 2009 at 11:59 am

Great tip! I really agree with it. I think if you eat well 90% of the time, then that last 10% its ok to eat foods you normally wouldnt. Its great to mix it up a bit.

  22. Liz on November 25, 2009 at 12:09 pm

I love the whole “Shrimpsgiving” thing. It really makes me want some shrimp, haha.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday!!

Hi Gina, my favorite internet health bloggirl!
Things are going well with my new lifestyle, which I use pieces of your input and some other nutritional advice and guidance to combine and make my “love life and taking care of myself” lifestyle easier (It’s so funny when people are like – “oh you are going to lose a ton of weight, wow good “diet.” I firmly say that I am working on a healthy, happy lifestyle and making changes to get healthy. Though I need to lose weight, actually quite a bit, I am approaching it head-on from the “replacing behaviors” mode.
Okay, yada, yada, just wanted to say that info…

I have a few questions for you and I understand if you are too busy to answer!
    1) I don’t mean this to sound as a judgement or anything, I just noticed that you eat a lot of the same foods as staples, and almond butter, etc. are practically in every thing you make – not that I think there is anything wrong with that – i just wonder if you get bored. I cant have the same things over and over, and I’m just wondering if you think that is okay or that the “staples” route is more efficient.

    2) What do you do to prevent bingeing/portion control/ overeating even when you are full. I have a lot of ED behaviors and have worked on them, but still have this problem…of course now it is on healthier things, but it is still not a good thing for my system or for future lifestyle planning…

    3) What kind of cardio would you recommend for a beginner – i seem to get bored with walking, I have sacroiliac syndrome and fasciatitis (no clue at spelling), so I go to an amazing chiro and work on that and have a completely holistic approach…I do a bit of yoga, but pilates is not good for me because of all the flat back exercises that cause spasms and also my pelvic tilt does not quite settle…anyway, they have some cardio at my studio, so i thought about that, but any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks for all you do!
    Robin
