Hello, four eyes

Hey everyone! Sorry to disappear this morning! It’s be a whirlwind of a day 😀

I am rocking these bad johnnies:

glasses

Glasses face! It’s definitely been a little weird to get used to –I always have contacts in- but until my eyes are healed (eye infection from the new contacts they gave me), I’ll be wearing these little guys. We’ll see how teaching aerobics and running go this week. Athletes with glasses, what do you do?!

I woke up this morning to a lovely bfast cookie (Tina had one today, too!)

cookie

It was a twist on the ol’ bfast cookie original (born on July 28, 2008)

-1/3 cup oats

-1/2 scoop Sun Warrior vanilla protein

-1 T almond butter

-1/2 banana

-almond milk

-1/8 cup raisins

-Stevia, sea salt, vanilla and cinnamon

I can’t get over how FILLING these cookies are! I’m super satisfecho afterwards 😀

I couldn’t wait to try this new yoga DVD, courtesy of Tinkerbell who got it for me as a Christmas present:

ingber

Bummer was that I have no clue how to use the remote on our new DirectTV she-bang. After many failed attempts (and messing up all of our satellite settings…sorry Pilot!), I called it quits and will have to wait until Thursday. In lieu of the super awesome Mandy Ingber DVD, I did a Namaste Yoga episode on the DVR.

After that, I went to work and had two training clients today before coming back for a snack:

green

An hour walk with the puppers, and lunch 😀

I made a lovely tuna pate, based on one by Ani Phyo.

tuna pate

Soaked cashews, sunflower seeds, dulse, lemon juice, garlic powder all processed in the food processor with grape tomatoes and bell pepper stirred in.

Into romaine boats:

openfaced

I stuffed said boats into my face and went back to work, where Jeni met me for a back and biceps sesh.

Here’s what we did:

Elliptical 5 minutes warm up
Straight bar curl 30 lbs 3 sets of 12
Bent-over flys 4 ea 3 sets of 12
Seated row 50 lbs 3 sets of 12
Hammer curls 8 lbs each 3 sets of 12
Elliptical 20 minutes Crosstrain program, level 5
Total time: 1 hr

After training one more client, I hit up Walgreens (Walgrizzle) for my eye drops, changed and met the girls at Longhorn for dinner.

With the usual wine and wheaty bread, I chose the shrimpies with no butter sauce, steamed veggies (no butter) and a plain baked sweet potato instead of the rice (which they gave me two of, since they were tiny)

shrimpies

Glorious. I love shrimpies, wine and girls night 😀

I’m off to get ready for bed, but I hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday.

See ya in the morning <3

xoxo,

Gina

Something to think:

Look well to this day,

for it is life,

the very best of life.

In its brief course lie all the realities

and truths of existence

the joy of growth,

the spendour of action,

the glory of power.

For yesterday is but a memory,

and tomorrow is only a vision,

but today if well-lived,

makes every yesterday a memory of happiness

and every tomorrow a vision of hope,

look well therefore to this day.

– Ancient Sanskrit poem

You look super cute with the glasses on! Sorry to hear that your eye is hurting, hopefully it gets better soon. My boyfriend plays sports with his glasses on, but his seem to stick to his face pretty well. I think spinning would be fine though!
Oh, and I must try a breakfast cookie – they look great and so easy.

  2. Nicole on December 15, 2009 at 8:54 pm

I bent my glasses behind my ears so they stay hooked on pretty well. I always wear them, and it works for me!

  3. Donna on December 15, 2009 at 8:55 pm

I read your blog all the time. (you’re awseome!!) Just wanted to let you know that i took my first Zumba class tonight. I shook it!!! Super fun. And I just prepped the sweet potato chili for tomorrow. Can’t wait. Thanks for all of your inspiration. 🙂

hehe – four eyes – you are too cute!! Sorry to hear about the eye infection, though. Hopefully the drops help you!
That breakfast cookie looks delish! I just made one for tomorrow morning.
Glad ya had a good girls night:)

I sweat like a man and working out with glasses kills me. I think I mentioned it yesterday but I use one of those thin elastic little headband things to hold them on and I usually wear a hat.

    • Fitnessista on December 15, 2009 at 9:04 pm

yes, i sweat like a beast as well. thank you again for that awesome tip- i’m totally going to try it

  6. Georgia on December 15, 2009 at 9:09 pm

Glasses suck.. Big time. But I can’t wear contacts and am scared of surgery. So I make do!

  7. Julie @savvyeats on December 15, 2009 at 9:10 pm

I can’t wait to see what you think of the DVD. I desperately want to get it!

  8. jewels on December 15, 2009 at 9:10 pm

you look beautiful as usual 🙂 hope your eyes feel better

  9. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on December 15, 2009 at 9:11 pm

You look adorable in your glasses. You could always get some sports goggles for exercise sessions! My parents tried to make me wear those when I played basketball in middle school. Not. so. cool.

    • Fitnessista on December 15, 2009 at 9:13 pm

LOL. ehhhh, no thank you. my dad used to wear those (he had hard contacts before he got lasik). and i made fun of him

    • rhodeygirl on December 16, 2009 at 9:28 am

Gina you totally need those. You could start a new trend mwahahaha

  10. Heather on December 15, 2009 at 9:15 pm

I don’t tend to have problems with my glasses when it comes to working out. Worst case scenario is that they get sweaty and I have to take a moment to wipe them, but I’ve never had them fall off or anything. Granted, I’m not running a bajillion miles or anything, but they work. I have contacts but my eyes are super dry so I can’t wear them a lot, so sweaty sessions + glasses are just how I roll. You look cute with them! Publix (aka Publizzle!) has organic grape tomatoes on sale for $2 each down here in FL, not sure if it’s the same up there but I stocked up maaajor!

  11. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on December 15, 2009 at 9:17 pm

I love the glasses 🙂 I had an allergic reaction to my contacts last year and finally learned to embrace my glasses as an accessory!

  12. Jenna on December 15, 2009 at 9:22 pm

I have had the option of glasses/contacts for quite some time, so I don’t even remember what I did when I just had glasses. But despite the fact that the present a challenge with working out, glasses are becoming more and more respected as a fashion piece. I always get comments on my glasses when I wear them. Score!

  13. Kristie Lynn on December 15, 2009 at 9:29 pm

You look cute with the glasses on. I actually really miss having mine – I have an old pair, but the frames are broken around the lens, so I can’t tape it up without covering them up! I’ll be curious how your active stuff goes though – I played basketball with mine in middle school and they fell off at least once a game, haha. I was def. a nerd back then 😛

  14. Errign on December 15, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Sorry Gina, Can’t be much help – I sweat like a crazy person & generally can’t wear my glasses working out. Though, when I rock my sunglasses biking and stuff, I usually wear a wicking polypropylene hat underneath my helmet…and do lots of face wiping & glasses pushing-up!

  15. Carrie on December 15, 2009 at 9:36 pm

You look cute in your glasses. I could never work out in mine. So, I had Lasik 10 years ago. It was the best decision I ever made.
Please post what you thought about the Yoga DVD!

  16. julie on December 15, 2009 at 9:46 pm

oh! i love that shirt you’re wearing. very pretty 🙂

    love your blog!

  18. Cara (Cara Craves...) on December 15, 2009 at 9:50 pm

    The glasses look fab!

  19. Teresa on December 15, 2009 at 10:04 pm

You’re totally rocking those glasses Gina!

This just hit me as I was reading your post for some reason… being the amazing raw chefer that you are, do you think you’re ever going to create the raw breakfast cookie?

I really need to follow your lead and start getting more creative (and not be afraid to make personal requests) when going out to restaurants. Especially those that aren’t so veg-friendly! It’s time to stop feeling bad about being “picky.”

  20. Jessica (fit and clean) on December 15, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Gina, your glasses look fantastic! I have so been wanting a breakfast cookie, I am going to make one tonight 🙂 I’m glad you posted yours! I’ll have to let you know what’s in mine if I get creative (or not…sometimes stuff I make doesn’t turn out so well, LOL).

  21. Tracy on December 15, 2009 at 10:34 pm

LOVE that shirt! Where’s it from? Please tell! Please tell!

  22. Melissa S. on December 15, 2009 at 10:54 pm

ah, i think you look great in the glasses!!!

  23. Stephanie on December 15, 2009 at 11:03 pm

thank you for this lovely poem, it really touched me tonight for some reason and i just loved it 🙂 hope your eyes begin healing soon!

  24. Lauren (Biochemista) on December 15, 2009 at 11:07 pm

I really like the glasses you should rock them more often!! And it’s prob a good idea to give your eyes a break from time to time 😉

Thanks again for a lovely breakfast cookie post…me and my 2 roomies are addicted (see below)! We take turns making them for eachother at night 🙂

Love the glasses! What is that green stuff?!

  27. Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen on December 16, 2009 at 1:23 am

I love how that dinner looks amazing and is butter-free! I’m so looking forward to trying a breakfast cookie, too, just gotta obtain some protein powder first! You look awesome in the glasses!

  28. Kathleen on December 16, 2009 at 2:25 am

You look beautiful with the glasses! Hope the eyes get better soon! I had to wear my glasses for a while when soft contacts didn’t cut it and I made the transition to hard lenses a few summers ago…when I went running, I just tied a tight ponytail, shoved them in a tiny bit higher than usual and let them settle down with the tight pulled back hair keeping them in place…and I rinsed them when I got home because they were sweeeeaty!

  29. Jaclyn on December 16, 2009 at 2:30 am

whats the green concoction? looks good 😉

  30. Kelly J on December 16, 2009 at 5:59 am

Just tried the Yogalosophy DVD yesterday. Loved it!

  31. Lisa on December 16, 2009 at 6:03 am

I love the sanskrit poem. I grilled out last night too and had shrimp skewers, buffalo burgers, sweet peppers and baby bellas. I knew you would be cute in your glasses!

  32. Sarah @ See Sarah Eat on December 16, 2009 at 7:19 am

As long as they fit on your head good, the glasses shouldn’t bother you too much I hope. I run with mine on and they are okay but if I bend over sometimes they slide off. Hope your eyes get better soon 🙂

p.s. I love that white shirt!

  33. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on December 16, 2009 at 8:04 am

    What an amazing quote!

I have glasses, and I just have to make sure to bring a towel to wipe the sweat from the bridge of my nose. Gross, I know…. but true.

  34. Erica on December 16, 2009 at 8:25 am

Hi Gina 🙂 Did you get my email? Let me know. Sorry to hear about the eyes 🙁 Hope the infection goes away quick. I’m blind too and heavily depend on my contacts- I always wondered what it would be like to teach with glasses on. The romaine boats look delicious as do those sweet tatos from dinner (nom nom). Hope you have a good day

  35. emilyb on December 16, 2009 at 8:43 am

Consider this another vote for the thin elastic band that attaches to the glasses and goes around your head. My boyfriend wears these when jogging, playing tennis, or doing manly stuff.

  36. rebecca lustig on December 16, 2009 at 8:50 am

Loving everything about this post. The glasses, the LETTUCE WRAPS, the poem and the cereal cake.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, lovely lady
    bec xo

  37. Whitney @ Lettuce Love on December 16, 2009 at 8:53 am

You look great in your glasses! I hate wearing mine — they always look crooked on me.

  38. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on December 16, 2009 at 8:56 am

Your glasses are so cute! I have had bouts with eye infections- nooooo fun! I hope you get healed up in no time!

  39. Erika on December 16, 2009 at 9:01 am

Good luck with the eye infection. I just got over one and had to wear my glasses for over a week which is so odd for me. Ironically, wearing my contacts too long was what got me into the mess…But teaching dance while wearing glasses was tough. They kept slipping down my nose and my usual stellar peripheral vision to keep kids in line was way off! They totally got away with bent knees and floppy arms! 🙂

  40. Kelly on December 16, 2009 at 9:02 am

I hate my glasses, but haven’t been able to wear contacts for years (my eyes attack them as a foreign body. *sigh*)
Anyway, I wear my glasses for all my exercising because I don’t have a choice….I don’t find there are any real problems with it. Just make sure your glasses fit you properly so they are sliding around when you look up/down/sideways/whatever. The only other special thing I do is usually when I’m done with cardio I take them off, wipe my face down, and clean the lenses…cuz it’s usually pretty gross. haha

  41. Jackie on December 16, 2009 at 9:12 am

G! you are gorgeous, glasses or not. Where is that shirt from… love it.

  42. Janna (Just Flourishing) on December 16, 2009 at 9:49 am

Aw, you look so cute with glasses! I’m a four-eyes as well 😀 But I do wear contacts. I’ve seen many people work out with glasses before, you’ll be fine!

  43. Jordan @ Salt Sweat Sugar on December 16, 2009 at 10:28 am

You look ADORABLE in your glasses. Don’t let anyone else [even yourself] make you feel any different =]

    Very stylish.

  44. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on December 16, 2009 at 10:48 am

Argh, I can’t even shower without my contacts in so I can imagine how awkward it must feel wearing your glasses all day. I honestly don’t know what I would do in the exercise situation! I’ve had contacts for so long I can hardly remember life before them. May your healing be swift. 😉

  45. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather on December 16, 2009 at 11:28 am

Glasses are cute! I couldn’t imagine running with glasses I think they might fall off. I’ve got to try a breakfast cookie. No prep in the morning would be nice.

  46. K on December 16, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Aw, love the specs! In my sport (I think you know what sport I do/did) people wear their glasses like it’s no big deal. That would be so distracting to me!

  47. Jenna on December 16, 2009 at 1:58 pm

omg gina! you didn’t get a double side of veggies this time, haha!
i really want to try longhorn’s because i have never been and i drole over your shrimpies everytime i see them on your blog!
    jenna

  48. Katie on December 16, 2009 at 3:44 pm

You are tooo cute in your glasses. But I know what you mean about not being sure about working out in them. I have worn my glasses to work out but only for super early morning workouts (when my eyes just aren’t ready for contacts) otherwise, I just feel better with contacts.

I hope your eyes feel fast!!

  49. Katie on December 16, 2009 at 3:44 pm

Ha meant to say feel better or heal fast in my last comment….what you got was a mixture of both! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2009 at 4:09 pm

i knew what you meant 😉 thank you!

  50. Lara (Thinspired) on December 16, 2009 at 4:40 pm

You make having glasses look so glamorous! Seriously love them and your whole look!
Thank you for sharing that passage. I think I really needed to read it today 😉
