His first cheesesteak

What a night.

us

You may have wondered why I was middle-of-the-night blogging and tweeting last night 😉 I stayed up later than I have in a looooooong time, and had an absolute blast with good friends 🙂

We started off at dinner at Parc, with Sabrina, her husband Trig, and Kath.

girls

Parc is a French bistro-style restaurant in Rittenhouse Square, with an antique and classy interior. I loved the 1940s decor in the powder room 🙂

Sabrina said the food is consistently good there, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

My salmon, sans crust, which came with some white foodgasmic sauce and black trumpet mushrooms:

The Pilot’s onion soup, which I’m pretty sure he had a relationship with

soup

[I fully supported said relationship. It looked AWESOME]

and his chicken with cous cous:

We sat at the tables for a few hours and chatted –there was so much to catch up on!- then Kath had to head to the airport, and Sabrina and Trig took us on a Philly tour and exploring.

rocky

This also included the Pilot’s first cheesesteak 🙂

pilot

He was a little nervous to order it –apparently if you screw it up they send you to the back of the line, haha- but he handled it like a champ. And managed to eat almost an entire cheesesteak after having a full-up dinner. My husband, ladies and gentlemen 🙂

After that adventure, we went back to Sabrina and Trig’s condo and hung out and chatted until very early this morning. We’d probably still be there if I didn’t ask the Pilot to check the time when my eyelids started to droop.

We’re very lucky to have amazing friends <3

sabrina

Whenever I go to blog conferences, I go for the people and not the conference itself. I’d rather hang out with friends, meet new ones and have a little vacation 🙂 That being said, I always feel so inspired, motivated and with a full heart when I leave, even if I only attend 1 or 2 of the actual conference sessions. The blog world is an incredible community and we all have so much to teach and learn from each other.

This morning the Pilot is sleeping in and I’m off to the gym before it’s airport time.

See ya in Tucson 🙂

xoxo

Gina

I love your approach to conferences–seems like you did that really well this time. 🙂

  4. Lindsay@LivingLindsay on August 22, 2011 at 10:51 am

I hope the Pilot enjoyed his cheese steak! I was born and raised in PA, but on the other side of the state, and have never had a REAL Philly cheese steak sandwich 🙂

  5. Jen on August 22, 2011 at 10:52 am

Men are such impressive eaters. My fiance could have done that too. I’ve seen him eat full meals on top of having just eaten. I don’t know how he does it without feeling uncomfortably full, but I love to watch in amusement!

And just out of curiosity, and how do you “screw up” ordering a cheesesteak?!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2011 at 10:54 am

they had a list of which order to order everything in, how to say it, it was pretty intense!

  6. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on August 22, 2011 at 10:56 am

How fun! I love the first picture of you and the hubby!

All of the cheesesteak talk over the past few days on the blog world… now I want one!! haha

  8. Steph on August 22, 2011 at 10:57 am

Glad the Pilot went to Pat’s (& not Geno’s) for that cheesesteak. Looks like you had an awesome time. I live 30 mins outside of the city and have wanted to go to Parc forever – gotta go do it, your food looks delish!

  9. Allison @ Food for Healing on August 22, 2011 at 10:58 am

sounded like such a great weekend, i wish i could have been there to meet everybody!
    safe travels home 🙂

  10. Marci on August 22, 2011 at 11:02 am

Yum Parc is delish!! Although the 1st time I went I got confused and went into the men’s bathroom since the “mens” and “womens” signs are writen in French and clearly dont know much of the language! Hopefully you either 1) are a lot smarter then i 😉 or 2) didnt have to use the restrooms!

Glad you had a good time in philly, and that Pilot got to enjoy and true philly cheesesteak!

    • Fitnessista on August 22, 2011 at 11:02 am

i definitely had to stand there for a second and figure it out, haha

  11. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on August 22, 2011 at 11:03 am

Your approach to conferences is lovely…I would wholeheartedly agree <3 Looks like you had so much fun – lots and lots of good times in great company! I raise my glass to the Pilot for his cheesesteak eating skills, lol! 😉 xyx

  12. Lindsey on August 22, 2011 at 11:13 am

Pat’s or Geno’s? He must try both 🙂

  13. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on August 22, 2011 at 11:18 am

Glad I at least get to experience a little bit of the conference through everyone’s posts. 🙂

  15. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 22, 2011 at 11:36 am

I ordered wrong the first (and only) time I had a Philly cheesetake but luckily they took pity on me and let me correct myself 😉

  16. Kimberly on August 22, 2011 at 11:39 am

Hey Gina! My hubby would be so jealous of that cheesesteak! haha. I am a little sketchy about the whole cheese-whiz thang myself, but to each his own I suppose 🙂 I saw you at the HLS with the Pilot and wanted to introduce myself but it was so crazy busy. Your blog is one of the first blogs I started reading and I still love to come back and check out your recipes and workouts -plus you just have a fun blog, it is one of my faves fo sho! 🙂 Also, my hubby and I are both in the military so I can totally relate to your deployment & military stories. I just wanted to pop over and say hello since I did not get to do so at the HLS. Glad you enjoyed Philly (isn’t it a great city – so much character!). Take care!

  17. Maria@La_Piattini on August 22, 2011 at 11:42 am

Love that picture of you and Sabrina- so precious! So what did the Pilot think of the cheesesteak? I’m guessing he loved it if he ate the whole thing!

  18. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on August 22, 2011 at 11:47 am

the Pilot’s ability to eat past full is eerily similar to my extra stomach reserved for dessert…

can you believe your tummy will be the size of Sabrina’s in a few short weeks?? craziness!

  19. Jacquelyn Wheeler on August 22, 2011 at 11:49 am

ahh parc is one of my fave spots! my friend lives at the Parc so we are there all the time. It’s so funny to see you blogging about your adventures in Philly since it is where I live. I’m glad you included the Philly bloggers you met so that now I can start following them and get some local blog-life!

  21. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on August 22, 2011 at 11:56 am

Sorry to have missed the opportunity to see so many bloggy faces in one place, but at least I knew I could count on recaps aplenty. 🙂

Only been to Philly once (back when looking at colleges) and I remember making the time to try a cheesesteak…I don’t remember being impressed, haha. Must’ve gone to the wrong place. 😉

  22. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on August 22, 2011 at 11:58 am

Looks like such a fun night Gina! I haven’t been to a blogger conference yet, but like you said, I think I’d go more for the people than for the conference itself. Your salmon is making me SOOOO hungry right now! 🙂 Glad you had a fantastic time!

  23. Amanda on August 22, 2011 at 11:58 am

So glad you guys were able to really experience Philly!! You and Sabrina both look great 🙂

  24. Katie @ Plates and Paste on August 22, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Guessing that Philly cheesesteak was good 😉 I’ve never had one, but refuse to try it until I go to Philly (and I don’t know when that would ever be). I’m all about food originals!

  25. Marguerite Miller on August 22, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I love me a good cheesesteak! I am fortunate enough to have a great place that has them here in Fort Myers, FL! Everything is shipped in from Philly! (I have to admit, I have never had a Pat’s or Geno’s cheesesteak)! But growing up in Philly, I had many! When we have people visit FL and try to order a cheesesteak from a menu, we don’t let them, unless it is the place we know is good!

  26. Cat @Breakfast to Bed on August 22, 2011 at 12:23 pm

LOVEVEVEVEVE the belly pic. sooo sweet.

  27. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 22, 2011 at 12:49 pm

Mmm French food is so yummy! I would have been scared to order a cheesesteak too! I hate being embarrassed in public. Looks like a great way to end your trip!

  28. Kathie on August 22, 2011 at 12:53 pm

Ah, he must have went to Gino’s! hahaha!! Glad he survived his first visit there :o) BEST cheesesteaks in Philly! ;o)

LOVE the baby belly pals photo!

You two pregnant ladies – what a fun picture!!

Wow, the Pilot reminds me of my youngest brother. I went over for dinner at mom & dad’s a few days ago and the kid put away 3 bratwurst and 2 hamburgers (plus the accompanying buns). Ugh, where do some guys put all that food??? 🙂

  30. Kath on August 22, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Can’t believe he had a cheesesteak after dinner! ha!! So fun to see you guys

  32. Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine on August 22, 2011 at 1:51 pm

Philly cheesesteaks are completely unbeatable :). I’ve eaten entire ones after full dinners, too. Totally worth the food baby!

  33. Nicole on August 22, 2011 at 2:08 pm

I totally got a cheese steak from that same place when I was in Philly! And my friends totally freaked me out about ordering it right.

    • Nicole on August 22, 2011 at 2:09 pm

“Whenever I go to blog conferences, I go for the people and not the conference itself. I’d rather hang out with friends, meet new ones and have a little vacation “–
Amen girl! I remember what you said at FoodBuzz last year when we were chatting…same sentiment.

I wish there would be a gathering of people who are just there to hang out and go out and go shopping or whatever..the sessions are great and all, but the downtime and just hanging out and chatting with friends, going out, THAT’S the most fun part for me of any conference..from blogging ones to the photography or yoga ones I’ve been on. It’s the PEOPLE that really make it for me, too 🙂

  36. Victoria on August 22, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Sounds like you had a great time! I live in Sedona. Have you ever been up this way? Hope your flight is a good one!

YAY Parc! I gave concerts there a year ago, and over the course of a few days, my fellow musicians and I ate there EIGHT times! Silly, but it’s THAT good! 🙂 I had the Pilot’s Onion Soup on one occastion. Yum. Philly has a really great foodie scene. Hope you all have a safe flight home!

Looks like an amazing time with good food and great friends! The conference sounds like a lot of fun, I think I’d focus more on the meeting up with friends aspect than all of the seminars as well. It is so inspiring just to be around others that do what you are doing with the same passion.
