Hurry for the curry

I ran 9 miles yesterday morning.

Sabino

It was awesome.

Sabino2

And by awesome, I mean terrible.

I just didn’t have my running mojo. It was a rough night of sleep -I always do that to myself when I know I have to wake up early- and when I got in the car, I realized I’d probably be cold in my shorts and tank. I found a hoodie in the trunk, and decided to wear that even though I’d be roasting 4 seconds later. That would be correct. I did 9 miles and probably only ran about 6 of it. It was a long.slow.miserable 9 miles.

Then, it was over.

Whenever I have a tough workout, I remember myself that it’s temporary. I always say it during my classes, too:

“Before you know it, you’ll all be sitting down and eating lunch.”

And, before I knew it, I was sitting down, eating lunch.

Curry

Pita Jungle!

Why are you so good??

I enjoyed the chicken curry salad and it was pretty delicious. Not quite as good as this version, but since I didn’t have to make it, I’ll call them even.

So runners, I have a shoe question for you:

I currently have the Asics 2160s. After they came out with the 2160s, the 2170s arrived and then the newest ones: the 2000 series. From the two sentences I just typed, you can probably guess how old my shoes are (I bought them when I was pregnant with Liv. Major athletic shoe violation there, especially when I wear them so often).

Sneaks

Anyways…. Has anyone tried the 2000 series? The only friend I know who has tried them said that they made her plantar fasciitis worse, which freaks me out a little. I’m debating getting the 2170s, since they’re still available online.

Sorry, that was a lot of words dedicated to shoes. Let me know if you have any advice 🙂

We’re off for a play date. Enjoy your day <3

xoxo

Gina

Don’t forget to check out the November workout- I really hope you enjoy it <3

I haven’t tried the 2000 series, but I got the Gel 1170s for my most recent pair and I’m not really a big fan. I’m a Saucony girl all the way!

That is my absolute fav salad on Earth. I get it without the rice and add extra lettuce and walnuts. I dream about t!

I LOVE Asics. I probably should have gotten a commission from them, I raved about them and convinced a lot of people to buy them too. However, the most recent pair I bought didn’t fit quite right. (I’m not sure if it was the 2000 series, I always just went in with my old pair and asked for the most recent version.) Something in the way it was built had changed in a way that didn’t work anymore. Now I’m in a pair of Brooks Glycerin, and while I feel bad that I’m cheating on Asics, they feel soooo much better.

Anyway, the point is the shoe changes over time, and I think it makes such a difference to try on a few different brands and see what actually feels good. Good luck!

I had the same experience. I’ve been wearing Aasics to run for the past 9 (!) years, minus a couple years of Mizounos. But my current pair, which I bought maybe 4 months ago, just doesn’t fit right and never did. I’m sad but I’ll probably have to go looking for another pair 🙁 Definitely go try some on in the store to make sure they feel okay before you take the plunge, especially if you’re upping your mileage.

same experience. I loved asics but the feel felt totally different this time! Switched to brooks and loving it.

I got the 2000’s right when they came out and I LOVE them! I run about 15 miles/week and have been using them for a month. I see a lot of bad reviews but they are really working for me.

I voted last week! This salad looks delicious.

I have the exact same Ascis as you do! I actually had an older version and liked them better than these ones. They kind of hurt the arch in my foot – well the sides of my arches.. if that makes sense. Do you feel this way also? Sorry I don’t know more about the newer Ascis. PS I got an amazing deal on mine at Kohls – like $25! Check Kohls for a good deal! 🙂

I’m training for a half marathon right now, too. Let me just say that 6 months ago I think I would have smacked myself for saying this, but… I actually prefer my Nike Free Runs to Asics now. I always thought my high arch needed mucho supporting yadda yadda, but seriously the Free Runs are amazeballs. I’ve been running in them since August and have had no pain. I can’t say as much for my old Asics. Plus, they come in way more fun colors than the Asics. 🙂

I wore the 2160’s (formerly the 1060’s) for years until I had a terrible bone spur injury! I am now I huge fan or the Brooks Ravenna & the Mizuno Wave Rider. I haven’t had an injuries with either (I run about 40-50 miles per week) and I find them so much more lightweight than the Asics.

9 miles, well done, even better to accomplish when they were so tough!
I think going into a shoe store and making sure you get the right ones for you is a must! I wear the asics gel-kayanos and have had plantar fasciitis. If this is a tendency for you too, I recommend also not wearing flat shoes (including flip flops or thongs as we call them) straight after your run as it puts more pressure on the plantar fascia band. I wear fit flops which are much more supportive post-run or medium heels if going out and haven’t had a problem since.
    Good luck! x

I love Asics. I only run with them. I tried Nike once in a while but they were too tight for me. I did not try the 2000 series. I intend to buy a new pair end of this year though!

  13. Christine on November 7, 2012 at 5:50 am

I’ve been a devout Asics GT 21xx user for the past 6 years or so. I’d say buy 2170s while you still can and they’re cheap!

I love asics! Whatever you do- make it neon 😉

  15. Kristen on November 7, 2012 at 8:09 am

My first thought looking at those pictures was: wow, I wish I had some place that gorgeous to run. Second thought? What if a snake comes! I guess that’s motivation to run fast 😉

  16. Brittany on November 7, 2012 at 4:30 pm

I wear those same sneakers all the time. I wear them to work every day and I have a job that requires me to be on my feet for hours at a time without sitting down. These dont hurt my feet at all. I LOVE them!

  17. Jennifer on November 8, 2012 at 10:54 am

“And by awesome, I mean terrible.” Hahahaaa so I’m not alone!! Thanks for the laugh 🙂

  18. Meg on November 8, 2012 at 11:45 am

I will look at which Asics mine are, they are not the new model but I love them! Very very lightweight , sort of like cotton balls on your feet but with support…that being said I only run on the treadmill and I certainly dont run 9 miles at a time like you either!

  19. Chelsa on November 9, 2012 at 9:38 am

love the new sneakers, I just got asics too!

I absolutely love Zumba! I have danced almost my whole life and Zumba is a great way to keep exercise entertaining. I have always questioned how many calories I burn during a session. I found a great and simple calculator (http://caloriesburnedhq.com/zumba-calories-burned/) and I burn over 400 calories in one 30-minute session! It’s great!! The reason I started getting back into Zumba is because of you and your love for it.
