Impulse Buyer

Hey everyone! How’s your day going?

Mine has been pretty good- it’s RAINY today! I lurve it 🙂 I especially lurve it because I haven’t watered my herbs since last fall and magically some are still alive- I’m going to re-plant after our tropical vacay. Thank you for all of the vacation tips!

This afternoon, I snacked on some of the usual suspects:

smoothie

A smoothie, minus the glass straw since they’re both in the dishwasher.

Fruit bowl:

fruit

Apple, banana, strawberries and cinnamon

and I picked up this lovely impulse buy while I was at Targizzle buying other stuff I don’t need laundry detergent.

Organic mascara 🙂

My cousin sent me a text saying “have you seen this mascara yet? It’s organic and has a LEAF on the end!” and when I told her I was in Target, I just went ahead and bought it. Destiny, right there. I’ll let ya’ll know what I think 🙂 Have you picked up any fun new beauty products lately??

Well I’m off to train clients and then coming home for dinner and GLEE!

Have a great night <3

Gina

Something to talk about: I had a fun conversation earlier with some tweeps about meeting people in unexpected places. As ya’ll know, I met the pilot at Starbucks, and while I was doing some computer work there today, I tweeted:

How did you meet your significant other?? I love fun, romantic and weird dating stories 🙂 If you’re unattached, have you ever met a boyfriend or girlfriend somewhere unexpected?

I first met my boyfriend when he moved into the apartment three doors down from mine. Somehow both of us are from the Midwest but ended up moving into the same apartment building within months of each other in Ca. I invited him to a superbowl party- i hate watching football! and we just started hanging out from there. At first it wasn’t romantic but soon we realized we were doing everything together- grocery shopping, dinner, laundry, etc. etc. Then one night, after a very strong drink, we both realized what we had was too good for just friends and we had better make a go for the whole enchilada. We’ve been together over 3 years 🙂 He’s my best friend and the best boyfriend.

I met my boyfriend online. I’d just moved back to my hometown after my marriage ended and was looking to start over and find new friends. What I found was my boyfriend, who lived in another state, and who I ended up moving in with three months after the first email. We’ve been together for almost 6 years. It’s crazy how you can meet people.

  3. Met my partner online. It was some silly facebook dating application. Me and my best friend were looking through all these pics and you had to wink at one’s youliked. We only did it for some fun but he winked back, started messaging etc. Found out we lived in the same town and hey presto over 2 years later 🙂

Second year of college – moved off campus into a house. One of the roommates decided to ditch us. It was either, fill the room or pay more rent. So, we put an add in the paper and who showed up at the door? My guy. He was the Jack Tripper in town (Three’s Company, do you remember?) – living with three girls. We fought it as long as we could, but fate won out . . . hee, hee. Within the next few years he would become a merchant marine, out on the high seas for 6 mos out of every year . . . made us a stronger couple. And here we are, celebrating our 15 yr anniversary in July – together a total of 21 years (yes, dated 6 years). Woke up this morning to a love note and lilacs on the counter. Still wedded bliss! Mo

I met one of my boyfriends at Starbuck’s. He was actually working there and I always “hung out” there with my friends. We’re not together anymore (he moved back to New Jersey) but we dated for 2 years and we were best friends. I still go to the same Starbuck’s, although I don’t hang out there much anymore, and I always think of him. (:

haha i met my current boyfriend/future husband thru facebook, after vowing that i would never ever resort to any type of online interface. He’s a Bama fan and i’m an LSU alumni so a little bit of football trash talk started it all. we do have a really good mutual friend so that kind of downplays some of the shock value when i tell people how we met. haha.

I met my Husband at a mutual friends apartment my Junior year of college. The weird thing was he grew up 5 minutes from my in my hometown, went to my same highschool, and even had a lot of mutual friends, but somehow we had never spoken a word to each other. We met, and three days later marked the first day of the rest of our lives. We haven’t been apart since!

I haven’t tried that one yet. I loooove PF tinted moisturizer though. It’s a great find and for $8.99 – a steal!
I met my husband at a party. No crazy story, just met at a party and started seeing each other afterwards!

My husband and I met at a college party. 🙂 I switched to organic skin products from Proactive for a while and my face exploded! 🙁

Met my fiance on Match.com – we are getting married in exactly one month! I’m glad online dating isn’t so taboo anymore. I know tons of people who met their SO online…

we met in barcelona, just a quick introduction, and he just happened to meet my parents first (they were visiting me at the time)… then we didnt see each other again for 6-7 months til we were both back in nyc and got reacquainted thru mutual friends. the rest is history 🙂

  12. Betsy on May 5, 2010 at 11:11 am

I met my fiance in the stairwell of our dorms. He and one of his roommates were coming over to chat up my very attractive roommate (half french/half chinese – gorgeous!), but ended up chatting with me. Use your hot friends as bate ;-)!

I met my boyfriend a year or so before we got together, at one of our friend’s birthday party. My first impression after our first talk : this guy is immature, uninteresting and not subtile about his intentions (with me)… and I did not talk again to him all night! lol Not the best first impression!! After that night, we’ve bumped into each other again regularly and little by little, I’ve got to learn about him, and felt in love. This just to say that sometime, we tend to judge too quickly!! lol

OK I discovered the BEST EYELINER EVER – Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes from Sephora, it stays on foreverr and doesn’t smudge. I swear I went to sleep in it by accident (ok fine I’m just scuzzy sometimes) and when I woke up it was still on perfectly. It’s at Sephora. It’s a little expensive (if $18 is expensive for an eyeliner) but I think its totally worth it since it never comes off..I’ve had this pencil since like December and I wear it every day. Hiiighly recommend it.

How did I meet my boyfriend? I was president of my sorority, he was president of his fraternity. I went to one of his frat’s parties with some friends, and he and I just started to talk at the bar. We literally danced all night, and when the party was starting to run down, we took a walk outside to talk, and ended up kissing…once (and I’ll be gross, it was perfectt). We’ve been inseparable ever since, two and a half years now. We’re sure we knew each other before this night, in social context, because I knew who he was and he knew who I was, but neither of us has ANY idea how we actually first met. It was sooooo cute and kind of awkward to be “that couple” that actually are both presidents of their Greek organizations, like on TV.

Kind of embarrassing, but I met my fiance at a frat party in college! In all fairness, we were introduced there by a mutual friend. It wasn’t some sketchy frat party experience 🙂 And hey, it worked out – we are getting married May 22nd!!

We met in Haiti on a mission trip…but didn’t start dating until we reconnected several months later. I wrote a whole post about it here: http://myfirstyearasawallace.blogspot.com/2010/04/its-love-story-babyjust-say-yes.html

  18. Jessica on May 5, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Such a positive and uplifting post and so fun to read all these comments.

Like a few other readers said, this gives me hope that there’s someone good out there and I just never know when I might meet him. Although perhaps I should start looking nicer when I do my errands. 🙂

I met a guy on a plane, although we never dated, but he did try. It was a Southwest flight so you can choose who you sit near. Beyond that, it’s usually been online (so many sites).

    Have a fabulous day!

Thought I’d join in on the ‘how I met’ fun…I met my fiance at the Cleveland Browns stadium at a country concert. He was sitting in the seat right in front of me. Very random, fun, and totally a fate moment 😉

  20. Kelly on May 5, 2010 at 4:16 pm

I actually purchased that same mascara several months ago. I didn’t like it at all. It smears and flakes. I ended up buying Tarte and am very happy with it.

I met my husband at the bank I worked at. He was a customer trying to cash a check. I helped him out. We dated for 6 months and were engaged. We have been married 19 years!!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2010 at 4:19 pm

oh no. i haven’t tried it yet, but we’ll see what happens. at least it was only $8 🙂

  23. Heather on May 5, 2010 at 10:04 pm

My boyfriend and I met through a mutual friend at the mall. Our friend was working so we had to introduce ourselves and make conversation while she finished up her shift at a nearby ice-cream kiosk.

My boyfriend is super shy when you first meet him and I thought he was a total jerk! I tried making conversation and he just gave me one word answers. I had totally ruled him out until we became friends and 6 months later, we started dating. It’s been 2 years now and I could never look back! [:

  24. Heather on May 6, 2010 at 1:40 am

I’m going to ditto what Jessica said…I need to look nicer when I run my errands now! ESPECIALLY when I camp out writing for like 5 hours at Starbucks every Saturday and Sunday in my yoga pants and track jacket with my hair piled on top of my head. Le sigh. Not so cute. But it IS cute that so many people met their SOs while drinking coffee there! Maybe there’s hope for me yet!

Hey everyone! Bit late on this but wanted to respond. Gina, thank you so much for doing this. I have been upset recently that I haven’t had a boyfriend for over 2 years (I am 23) and see as I got hurt so badly by my ex (who has now met someone!) I really thought I wouldn’t have to wait that long to meet someone new (i guess I have been very lucky in the past). It’s so nice to hear everyone’s stories.

I do have a good story though, my most recent ex (see above) and I met at the airport as we left for a university trip to Tanzania. (There were about 24 of us but we hadn’t met yet through the socials, training etc). As we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro we just talked and talked and talked, realising that we had so much in common. Then the day we got off, he kissed me and we were a couple from that point, travelling around Tanzania for 5 weeks.

I now live in NYC and really liked someone, but he had no time for me with his job. I’m thinking about applying for the bachelor! :o)

LOVE your blog and read it everyday!

Met my hubby on my birthday at a club in San Francisco! We always joke that he’s my life long b-day present 🙂 20 years later (17 of those married)we have two children, a dog, 2 frogs, a bearded dragon, and are still madly in love with each other! It’s not always easy, some days we really have to work at it but I couldn’t imagine my life without him!!

Awwww..such a cute Starbuck’s story…maybe I need to take your advice and head to the java house to meet a fabulous man, hehe….Have a great day darling…

I met my boyfriend in a high school math class. He sat next to me for almost the whole school year before he ever talked to me. But once he did, I was hooked and we have been together for more than 6 years now. : )

I know this is from a long time ago, but I am just reading through all your posts, and wanted to share how I met my love! We met when we were in grade EIGHT!!! He told me that he was going to marry me in grade nine, then proceeded to get together with my best friend! (she was a mutual friend of ours!) They broke up at the beginning of grade ten, and because we were going to different high schools, we lost touch. Then, FIVE YEARS LATER, her randomly commented on a blog post of mine, we went out of coffee and have been together ever since! Destiny indeed.
