In my practice + a new Zumba video

What do ya know? I actually have some food pics for ya today. I was going do to a What I Ate Wednesday post, but got home from yoga too late, so here’s a What I Ate Wednesday on a Thursday 😉

Breakfast:

2 eggs + brown rice tortilla (with sriracha that I took to work)

Bfast 1 of 1 7

+ pieces of watermelon while making Liv’s breakfast, an apple and coconut water to take with me

Work snacks 1 of 1 3

Along with mint protein fudge for one (2 scoops protein powder, 1 T coconut oil, 1 heaping T nut butter, maple syrup, peppermint extract and a little almond milk for it to come together), turkey loaf, romaine wrappers, beloved sriracha, and an avocado to smash onto the romaine leaves.

Work snacks 1 of 1 2

When I got home from work, I had some of this glorious nut butter we’ve been enjoying, courtesy of Kath:

Nut butter 1 of 1 2

and Livi also ate a spoon covered with the nut butter when she saw me with my spoon 😉

We went to kick around a soccer ball at the park — it was just be outside for a little while:

Park10Bell at the park

Then we came back home for Livi’s bedtime, and I went to yoga with Meg, Kyle and Ashley. Our favorite instructor was back from her honeymoon, and class was gloooooorious. After my scary challenging expanding class last week, it felt good to explore poses I’m already comfortable with. She said, “If it’s in your practice to do side crow, go ahead and come into side crow on the right side” and I thought, “Yeahhhhh, that’s in my practice!!” Haha.

When I came home, I had some shredded chicken with black beans on top of a sweet potato:

Weird looking dinner 1 of 1

(not the most attractive picture, but a really delicious combo)

+ the quintessential glass of Malbec.

Wine 1 of 1 6

A pretty tasty day of eats 🙂

I’m off to do the work thang right now, but in the meantime, wanted to share a new Zumba video! Sasha and I filmed it this week when we were getting some photos taken for our YouTube channel (please subscribe, if you’d like!). The video was filmed at the fabulous Breakout Studios here in Tucson; check it out if you’re local and looking for strength and dance fitness options.

Hope you enjoy! If you try the video, please let us know what you think.

Happy dancing 🙂

xoxo

Gina

What did you eat on your Wednesday? What’s your favorite yoga pose? Mine is definitely standing bow pulling pose (also called “dancer”). I also love birds of paradise <3

I just did my very first bird of paradise (on the left side) in my yoga teacher training this weekend! It’s really hard to hold balance when you’re grinning like a fool! 😉

  2. Maggie on May 23, 2013 at 10:49 am

Thanks for the dinner idea 🙂

I have some shredded chicken to use up and it’s supposed to storm tonight so putting it over a sweet potato will be perfect.

  3. Ali @ Peaches and Football on May 23, 2013 at 10:50 am

How fun!! I am definitely going to try that zumba song with you when I get home tonight!!

Quick question, I get really bad wrist pain doing downward dogs / push-ups, but I want to take more yoga classes. Do you know of any modifications or exercises I can do to strengthen my wrists?

  4. Madison on May 23, 2013 at 10:54 am

That nut butter looks crazy amazing.

  5. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on May 23, 2013 at 10:55 am

Omg that Zumba video looks amazing!! I’m totally doing that later today, thanks!

  6. Erin (Running Tall) on May 23, 2013 at 10:57 am

Ahh I loved that zumba song! Downloading ASAP.

  7. Emily on May 23, 2013 at 11:05 am

We made homemade tofu lettuce wraps for dinner last night that tasted just like PF Changs. My hubby told me whatever I did this time, was a keeper. Love when that happens!

Um, does shavasana count as a favorite? haha I always so I love a good workout that lets you “nap” at the end. I also have a love hate relationship with half piegon. It’s getting easier though!

  8. Ashley @ Life and Fitness on May 23, 2013 at 11:14 am

My favorite yoga pose is half moon. It stretches your whole body!

  9. Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny on May 23, 2013 at 11:18 am

nothing feels as amazing for my back as plow pose – looks silly, feels amaaazing!

  10. Kristine on May 23, 2013 at 11:20 am

Wait no joke I JUST bought a jar of that Vanilla Cinnamon Almond Butter! (Naturally alongside a Justin’s Almond Butter which shipped on Amazon prime and which I’m already half-way through). I can’t wait to try it! 🙂

My favorite pose is wheel, triangle and birds of paradise – I don’t know what it is, I just LOVE them!

    • Fitnessista on May 23, 2013 at 11:21 am

it will rock your world 🙂

      • Amy on May 23, 2013 at 11:16 pm

I bought it after seeing it on blogs and didn’t like it! super sweet- tasted like frosting. If I want frosting I just eat frosting!

        • J on May 23, 2013 at 11:28 pm

OMG, i can’t get enough of it! I live in Charlottesville like Kath and go to her shop just for the nut butters. Maybe try a different flavor of the same brand? They make some really original flavor combos!

          • Amy on May 24, 2013 at 12:08 am

Yeah it’s weird I like Justin’s Maple AB, but Nat. Nutty cinn vanilla is soooooo grossly sweet to me. I guess everyone has different tastes.

        • Fitnessista on May 24, 2013 at 12:36 am

I like it as a sweet treat 🙂

  11. Becca on May 23, 2013 at 11:26 am

Did you make that salsa on top of your sweet potato? Please share the recipe! 🙂

  12. Nic on May 23, 2013 at 11:35 am

    Loving the Zumba videos!

  13. Riene on May 23, 2013 at 11:36 am

    oh nooooooooooo
in germany it is not possible to play the video due to music rights :-((
it says: music from umg is not allowed in germany because gema (Society for Musical Performing and Mechanical Reproduction Rightsmusic copyright) did not
    allow. sad 🙁

    • FellowGerman on May 24, 2013 at 8:05 am

Go to hidemyass.com and enter the url 😉 The video will load and play without any problems!

  14. Lisa on May 23, 2013 at 11:39 am

Since in recovering from surgery, all I’ve been able to stomach is oatmeal, green juice, and smoothies. I never thought I’d get sick of those 3 things but I’m starting to!
Especially since I’ve now got a lovely case of the stomach flu too. Man oh man, not the best haha.
Not a yoga girl, but my favorite pilates pose is (well I guess it’s not a post, but rolling like a ball) feels like a nice spinal massage!

  15. Emiliy on May 23, 2013 at 11:55 am

    Love the dance!!

  16. Danielle on May 23, 2013 at 11:58 am

I’m loving all the Zumba videos! Keep them coming 🙂

  17. Yvonne on May 23, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Love the videos! I’m not coordinated well enough to watch you and mimic but I was wondering if one of you could face backwards while the other is front? I would be able to follow that way! Just a suggestion. Love the moves though! Way more fun than my local zumba class!!!

  18. Alyssa on May 23, 2013 at 12:23 pm

I personally am not a Zumba fan but I love your enthusiasm for it! I watched your entire video this week simply because I was mesmerized by the movement and upbeat music. Your’s and Sasha’s coordination and ability to sync your movements is impressive!

  19. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on May 23, 2013 at 12:35 pm

My favourite yoga pose is pigeon. I love the stretch through the hip and butt! Feels sooo good- especially since I sit all day at work. I typically will stretch for 5-10 minutes everyday after work, and I always include that one.

  20. Sarah Fowler on May 23, 2013 at 12:36 pm

My favorite yoga pose is double pigeon – so hard, but so goooood. Yesterday my yoga teacher taught us flying double pigeon which may or may not be a “real” pose, but it makes you feel crazy powerful to go from flying double pigeon into side crow!

  21. lucie on May 23, 2013 at 12:43 pm

Hmmm, all your eats look really delicious – I am craving this nut butter now!! And the chicken/bean/sweet potato combo is genius!! My favorite Yoga pose is pigeon and childs pose. Could stay like this forever!

  22. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on May 23, 2013 at 12:55 pm

    Love the Zumba video!!

My favorite yoga pose is s shavasana! Hahaha! Seriously though, I love half moon and tree pose. I feel so strong when I’m balancing!

  23. Silvia @ skinny jeans food on May 23, 2013 at 1:15 pm

haha, you are the energizer bunny! Now, just let us know how you remember all the moves!!??

  24. Annette @ FitnessPerks on May 23, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Fun video! I am looking for some new choreo for my class, so thanks 🙂

    Mmmmm mint protein balls-sounds good!

  25. Jenn on May 23, 2013 at 1:25 pm

Boo…I am not able to watch your video on my iPad:(. It says the owner of the content will not allow viewing on mobile devices.

    • Fitnessista on May 23, 2013 at 1:46 pm

It’s because of the song 🙁 they won’t let me change that setting. Copyright issues are no bueno..
      Sorry about that!

  26. Jessica @ Busy Living Healthy on May 23, 2013 at 1:52 pm

I have been in love with brown rice tortillas every since I saw them on your blog! 🙂 I love your daily eats posts because it helps me get out of my food rut.
Also, I cannot wait to try this Zumba video. I’ve been obsessed with the “Don Juan” one. It’s so fun! 🙂

  27. Ashley @ BrocBlog on May 23, 2013 at 1:58 pm

I love a good old fashioned downward dog because my back is weird and that pose just makes me feel so relaxed

  28. C on May 23, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Do you think you could do a zumba video where you break down the moves a bit? I’m rhythmically challenged, so I need remedial help. 🙂

  29. Tracy on May 23, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Love half moon, revolved triangle and froggy pose (sumo squat?)!

  30. Jane on May 23, 2013 at 3:15 pm

I love chair pose for some reason 😉 I also love most hip openers – though I HATE pigeon while I’m doing it, even though I always feel so much better after!!

Child’s pose used to see boring to me but is always nice after a class of hip openers, too 🙂 Wow, tougher question to answer than I thought! haha

That chicken/blackbean/sweet potato/salsa combo looks yum!

  31. Kim on May 23, 2013 at 3:39 pm

I’m planning to try out my first Zumba class in the next week or two!! I like all of the jumping involved (at least in your video) – the hip shaking makes me nervous because I lack any sort of rhythm. Maybe if I keep watching your video over and over I will be able to get some moves down!!

  32. Emma on May 23, 2013 at 3:44 pm

I love that you go out and kick around a soccer ball just for fun. I had to stop playing competitively due to persistent knee injuries, but I’ve always missed it. I need to remember everything doesn’t have to be serious all the time! Too many people get caught up in the intensity of sports and forget to have fun – but not you! 😉

  34. Jenni on May 23, 2013 at 3:54 pm

I’m still just a beginner when it comes to yoga, but I love twists and back bends! Shoulder stands also feel great. I hope to one day feel as strongly about yoga as you do! It’s such a beautiful practice.

  35. Sarah (Shh...Fit Happens) on May 23, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Wow you guys are good at Zumba, way to shake it! Zumba is seriously so hard for me, I got no rhythm!

  36. kyla on May 23, 2013 at 5:14 pm

    Fun video!!

  37. Bekki on May 23, 2013 at 7:25 pm

    Love it!!! Great Job!

  38. Jillian on May 23, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Love the video!!! A little tricky first time through, but by the third time I got it!

    Thanks!

  39. PluvK on May 23, 2013 at 10:52 pm

I ate a lot of smoothies on my Wednesday… it’s been HOT! I keep wanting to try a yoga class, but I’m not the most flexible person. It’s a little intimidating! Any tips?

    • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on May 24, 2013 at 10:17 am

Just go for it 🙂 You could try some online yoga videos at http://www.doyogawithme.com/ Or Comcast also has some On Demand. If you go to a class, you could tell your instructor that your new so they can assist you if you need it. But really… all levels are welcome and I would just go for it!

  40. Amy on May 23, 2013 at 11:20 pm

I am extremely uncoordinated and unless one of you turns around in the videos and you break down the moves some there’s no way for people like me to benefit from these videos…..so that would be great if you’d do it! If you are just looking for people to tell you guys you look great dancing, well you both do, but if you are trying to teach us a dance, you need to teach it and not just perform. That’s my honest feedback. But not sure what your goal is.

    • Fitnessista on May 24, 2013 at 12:34 am

For Zumba, you don’t break down the dances. There are patterns with the moves- so for each chorus you do the same thing, the hook will always be the same move, etc.
The beauty about Zumba YouTube videos is that you can watch them and practice.
We are working on some videos that will have tutorials for the moves, but for Zumba we will keep it authentic to the format, which means just dancing and having fun.

  41. Nina @ Too Hottie For That Body on May 23, 2013 at 11:41 pm

Love the yoga/wine combo! I’m all relaxed just thinking of it 😉

  42. Janna on May 23, 2013 at 11:45 pm

That video was awesome. And I LOVE that song. I may or may not have downloaded it and listened to it on repeat immediately after I watched the video. 😀

  43. Alyssa on May 24, 2013 at 1:32 am

Absolutely LOVED the Zumba video!! I think this will be my new warmup for at home workouts! I hope you keep posting these…I have never been to a real Zumba class but this makes me want to go.

  44. Meghan @ After the Ivy League on May 24, 2013 at 7:57 am

That nut butter looks so good! I have a jar of “normal” sunflower seed butter but it’s been getting neglected since it’s a little too salty for me. Maybe some cinnamon and vanilla will help it out. And that zumba dance looks like so much fun!

  45. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on May 24, 2013 at 9:53 am

Love the video! I practice yoga off and on. Recently started going again and I do Bikram so my favorite pose is camel. It’s such an amazing back opener!

  46. Anna @ Your Healthy Place on May 24, 2013 at 12:04 pm

That’s my favourite, when the yoga teacher says, “If ____________ is in your practice, go into it”. I’m always like, really? Haha. One day, maybe! Love your video – looks like a really fun routine, I will have to try it!

  47. Kelli @ The Happsters on May 24, 2013 at 1:01 pm

LOVING the Zumba vid. Can’t wait to get my sweat on and try it out! I made the most delicious guacamole bruschetta that I found on Pinterest last night. Definitely going to be a weekly thing!

      recipe?!

    • Fitnessista on May 24, 2013 at 2:39 pm

yay, i’m so happy you liked it!

  49. Jenny Varghese on May 24, 2013 at 2:25 pm

Lovin your zumba videos….you’ve mentioned about song requests for videos and I love the Limbo song by Daddy Yankee you shared a while ago, do you have any routines for that one??

    • Fitnessista on May 24, 2013 at 2:39 pm

i do! maybe we can film it this week?

  50. Bailey on May 24, 2013 at 4:23 pm

I’ve noticed you eat a lot of almond butter, sunflower seed butter, etc. but not peanut butter. Do you eat peanut butter? If not, why?
