It all adds up

Hi friends 🙂 How was your Indian Food Wednesday? Did anyone celebrate? I find it very appropriate that today’s Tucson Groupon is for Indian food. We might have to hit that up….

I just got home from a full day of teaching/assisting at work, and snuggled up with the pup and a bowl of popcorn.

me and bell

[Snowmen in October? Yes, please]

Popcorn has to be my favorite post-work snack, and Bella has to be my second-favorite snuggler 😉

I taught employee Buff Booty during lunch and my booty hath been buffed. I’ve going to be a little sore tomorrow and am already dreading the many stairs I’ll have to climb.

Here’s a snippet of what we did:

-Squats, pulsing squats, tempo squats (down slow, up fast and vise versa)

-Lunges, pulsing lunges, lateral lunges

-Plie squats with pulses and heel lifts

-Sumo deadlifts

-Barre work using a playground ball <— this is the doozy right here

-Walking lunges

-Floor work (lots of bridges and other torture strategies using the playground ball)

Lots of stretching tonight, fo sho.

Some eats:

Last night’s midnight cup of Puffins:

puffins

[That was the second bit I poured, since I always need more to finish off the almond milk that’s left]

Bfast was a bowl of oats topped with crumbled Larabar:

Pizza toast for lunch:

Snackage:

It all adds up

So as you guys know, we’ve been tackling lots of little projects around the house since we moved in. Our house was move-in ready, but there are things we’d like to update and change, and are quickly finding out that it’s a never-ending process. The fun part about it is that we can actually change things now, instead of scheming and wishing we could. We’ve always rented before, so to be able to do whatever the heck we want has been gloriously refreshing.

While I was planting Sunday night, the Pilot was hard at work replacing the deadbolts and handles on all of our entry doors.

 door

So much better than the shiny gold they used to be.

gold

The Pilot has surprised me because while I always knew he’s wicked smart, he’s a handyman, too. I had no idea since we’d always had a landlord or maintenance to call. If he doesn’t know how to do something, he Googles it and gets it done.

pilot

[Like last weekend when he was installing blinds]

Just when I thought he couldn’t be any more amazing….

We still have something like 12 door handles to replace in the house, but we’re working on things a little at a time so that Lowe’s doesn’t totally own us. It’s more fun this way, anyway 😉

Dropping the all or nothing attitude is beneficial in many more aspects of life than just health and fitness. It’s all a journey and it all adds up <3

Time to make some dinner and then take little Bell for some exercise.

Schweaty October Workout + playlist coming atcha in the am! 😀

xoxo

Gina

Something to think:

?"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
– Steve Jobs

I would stop by your local post office and check out the change of address packets. My husband and I did this two years ago when we moved in, we grabbed a bunch because they have 10% off Lowes coupons. Also, if you know you are going to spent a certain amount at Lowes, we will go to our grocery to get the gift cards and receive fuel perks.

    • Fitnessista on October 5, 2011 at 9:43 pm

whooooooa i’m so glad you told me about that! thanks 🙂

      • Dynamics on October 5, 2011 at 9:59 pm

Don’t forget to sign up for the “Creative Ideas Magazines” Sometimes they have a 50 bucks off 200 bucks coupon. Plus it is fun to see their home decorating ideas.

      • Nicole on October 6, 2011 at 5:47 pm

No need for a coupon – Lowe’s offers a 10% discount for all active duty military, retirees and their dependents!

You have to watch it with that ‘Handy Man within’ stuff. Once it comes out, there is NO end to the things it wants to make / build / adjust / renovate. My guy is, by day, a high-end, brainiac software programmer. By weekend? A Handyman machine. So far (over 5 years or so), I have.. a new deck, a new office, box gardens, outdoor seating area, kitchen fully renovated and a home gym. All good. I also have a big, freaking SHED in the middle of the lawn because he needed somewhere to put all the gear he needs to carry out this never-ending hobby. It’s in the middle of the back yard because he googled the regulations and found that it legally had to be as far from the neighbours house as it is high. I had to put a stop to the shed building activities or we would have a village of sheds in the yard by now. He just loves to build. I think the activity of it balances out the intensive thinking he does all week.

Thanks for the Steve Jobs quote… that news broke my heart a little this evening.

    • Hannah on October 5, 2011 at 10:13 pm

I love this quote from Steve Jobs, too. I found out on Facebook, which is not surprising. It’s so sad…

We have lived in our house for two years and I feel like our list is still a million miles long! Just when I think we are done, I find something else to work on! It’s fun though! 😀

“quickly finding out that it’s a never-ending process.” <— YES!!! And aren't you glad you didn't buy a fixer-upper? I cannot imagine it. And with you being pregnant, double stress. I am just not cutout for major household renovations…small projects, okay, but nothing too major.

And that rocks that Pilot is SO handy. My husband is so UN-handy. As in…I do all the projects or call a real handyman 🙂

  15. Molly on October 5, 2011 at 10:28 pm

what a great quote from Steve Jobs. So sad about his passing today 🙁

I also zumba-fyed at lunch today. Its been forever!

I felt so devastated when I found out about Steve Jobs, and I’m not even really sure why. He was such a remarkable man and did so much for the world. My thoughts are with his family who lost him far before his time.

  21. Ali on October 6, 2011 at 2:02 am

Looks like you got one awesome man there! So awesome that he can do all of that. So right you are, all in the journey.

Fitness lady, please please please stop saying (typing) the following:
    1. Whole Paycheck- seriously, it was funny the first 2 times you wrote it, but now, its just tiring.
    2. Indian Food Wedesday, guess what, no one is celebrating. How many readers do you think actually celebrate it? None I bet.
    3. Beefacake and Noble- ’nuff said.
    4. Implying or making readers think your husband is “seksi”, if he really is, we’ll say it. However I do admire the way you admire him.

    Hey Gina,

I love the quote from Steve Jobs that you posted and I think it is probably relevant in view of nasty comments you may get – “everything else is secondary”. I love your blog anyway and it makes me happy to read your posts! All the best for the rest of your pregnancy! 🙂

  25. Katie on October 6, 2011 at 6:04 am

You look simply gorgeous in that first pic! 🙂 And I’m loving that quote from Steve Jobs. My heart broke last night when I heard the news.

My boyfriend is also surprising me with his handy skills. He is fixing things that I would either learn to live with or call the maintenance guy to come fix.

  26. Heather on October 6, 2011 at 7:51 am

When you wrote “wicked smart,” being a Boston gal, I said “wicked smahhht” in my head. Made me smile.:-) You and the Pilot have such a lovely relationship. I love reading about it on a weekly basis, Gina!

Also, really great quote from Steve Jobs. It’s so sad that he passed from such a long, hard battle. If not for him, we might not be blogging today!

  27. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on October 6, 2011 at 8:36 am

It’s definitely nice to have a handyman around. My fiance recently replaced our front door, and it was so nice not to have random strangers milling around our house.

  28. Nancy @ Beyoutiful Fitstyle on October 6, 2011 at 9:11 am

I can totally relate to this post! I became a first time home owner in May and we were on a fast track to get everything done in it! And just like you said…it all add up… aka the expense of it it all, and time! I’m finally having my house warming next weekend so I’ve begun to freak out again about making sure things are decorated and perfect.

  29. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on October 6, 2011 at 9:42 am

That Steve Jobs quote actually gave me chills.. so very true. And agreed- it really does all add up.. from being extra patient w a friend, or hitting the gym for 20 minutes even if you can think of a million better things to do, it all matters. 🙂

  30. Chelsa on October 6, 2011 at 9:56 am

Your hair looks fantastic. I really think it’s reaching that Kardashian length! I wish my hair would grow long. It just seems like every time it starts to get long I have to get the dead ends cut off 🙁

I hate to say this (being the feminist that I am) but THANK GOD for handy husbands! I seriously love the fact that my hubby can fix anything and is happy (or doesn’t complain anyway) to do it!
Oh- and thanks for posting that wonderful quote!!

You are so lucky to have your guy running around the house fixing things up, it is the best, huh! My husband was like that yesterday, in the zone running around fixing everything he could and I was not about to stop him, today everything works,ha!

Good day of eats too. 🙂

we had to replace 90s-style gold fixtures on our house too! My hubby also surprised me when we bought our house (built in 1924 so there is always something that needs fixing / replacing) – he is SUPER handy! and if he’s never done something before, he’ll bobvilla it, watch a video ONE time, go buy what he needs and fix it… it’s pretty incredible 🙂

We just moved into our house in July and we’re still not completely caught up on anything yet. It’s definitely a never-ending thing but it’s nice when at least one thing gets finished and you can really tell the difference. We changed a lot of the gold stuff in our house to brushed nickel too 🙂

    Hi Gina!
I recently found your blog and love it! You have a great writing style. Love the fun/easy/yummy recipes. I just bought my first sun warrior protein powder, and am so excited to try it out. Also I wanted to share something I love to eat in the morning: 1 cup of greek yogurt (you would prob like goats yogurt), mixed with 2T ground flax, vanilla, stevia, nuts, protein powder, really anything you want. Cut an apple into dipping pieces, and enjoy! It takes a while to eat and is very filling.

    Have an amazing day!
